God’s Love; Day547; End of 2011

And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him.  1John 4:16

I Give My Heart To You

[Listen]

I went out cycling today at 45’F [17 miles only] to test if my heart can survive in cold weather.  Against my theory that I need not play in the cold weather anymore due to my MI 3 years ago after swimming in cold waters for 90 minutes [blood coagulation].  I had Lindell Cooley playing on phone/mp3 player and this song caught my attention.  When I got home, I searched the lyrics and shared it here.  I hope you too will be blessed.  Merry Christmas everyone!

Take me to the place where I Can find You
All my fears and worries melt away
All the dreams that I’ve been chasing
Disappear when I see Your face

I believe You are the One
Who gave Yourself for me
And so I pledge my love so true
Forever and ever I give my heart to You

I want to know the place of real surrender
All my thoughts and plans I lay aside
Just one moment in Your presence
And I could leave this world behind ’cause

All my praise and all my worship
Comes from deep within my soul

And so I pledge my love so true
Forever and ever I give my heart to You
Forever and ever I give my heart to You
Forever and ever I give my heart to You

Need #0; Day541; Christmas Day

Then suddenly there appeared with the angel an army of the troops of heaven (a heavenly knighthood), praising God and saying,  Glory to God in the highest [heaven], and on earth peace among men with whom He is well pleased [men of goodwill, of His favor]. Luke 2:13

Need #0 – Spiritual
I was reading the subject of Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs yesterday and it dawned on me that something is missing or not in the right place.  His hierarchy of needs are the following:

Need #1 – Biological ad Physiological needs
Example: food, clothing, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep etc.

Need #2 – Safety needs
Example: security, order, law, job security, stability, limits, health etc.

Need #3 – Love and Relationship needs
Example: family, affection, relationships, work group etc.

Need #4 – Self Esteem needs
Example: self esteem, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility

Need #5 – Self actualization needs
Example: achieving personal potential,  self fulfillment, personal growth, peak experiences, “be all you can be” attitude

Need #0 – Spiritual needs [my personal suggestion]
Example: The need for God. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” Matthew 6:33.

I had a very interesting Christmas Eve with my son Brent, 15 [Bravo3] last night. I was playing around with his emotion in a childlike manner but I did not predict his irrational response to the situation.  He magnified the incident so big that it became an emotional disaster in his part where he cried so deeply and then later on I discovered that there are/were buried hidden emotions deep inside his being. Fast forward a few hours and we end up with a long healthy conversation about life.  If I have to summarize his total reactions last night, it will be reduced to the problem statement that looks like this “Bravo3 is emotionally sensitive”.  There is nothing wrong with emotional sensitivity because we all are human beings and has all the capability to feel something.  If we don’t feel anything, then we are not normal human beings.  What matters most is how we contain the ups and downs of that emotion. How we gain back the composure of emotional stability is the key.  Yes, we can be sad or happy at the moment but the fact is – we will never be in that state [high or low] the rest of our lives.  All our emotions will go back to the normal humanly acceptable level.  During our intense conversation last night, we discussed Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and we point out of which level is missing in his life.  He undeniably claimed that he is missing Need #3.  I was shocked because I know he had been given a strong love and affection.  He also stated that he is also missing Need #4 [or not there yet].  Understanding Maslow’s point – “one cannot aspire/go to the higher level need until the current need is met”.  With that point, one cannot have self actualization need being fulfilled unless the lower needs are met.

To make the long story short, our conversation did not end well.  The clock hits 12:00am and it was Christmas day.  He left my bedroom and I went to sleep.

At 0900 Christmas Day, I executed my daily routines and remembered last night that I had a long dream. “I was back in the US Army Training Camp and we were preparing for the next day when I realized that I did not have my clothes washed and have no clean uniforms for tomorrows event. Everything in my room was so organized, the table and bed were setup in a military standard spec – meaning everything squared away and waiting for inspection.  I sneaked out to the laundry room after I prepared all my stuff for tomorrows event and then did my laundry”.

Going back to my main subject today, Need #0 – Spiritual, I believe that this is what we are missing. I think once we find God and establish our relationship with Him, we can never attain self actualization. To my son Brent, I do hope that you will start at Level #0 Need.  I will not hold your hands to find it.  You will have to establish that yourself.

Giver; Day538; 3 Years of [Abundant] Life

He who did not withhold or spare [even] His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all [other] things?  Rom 8:32

I’ve mentioned this before that life is sweeter when you know that your time here on earth is very limited.  I don’t look forward more than a day in my life nowadays.  When I wake up in the morning, it is a celebration of life filled with excitement of what else in my life there is to do.  I wish I can share that to everyone – the joy of abundant life.  When people think that they have plenty of time, they think that they have another chance on the next day or the next week or the next year.  Life is indeed sweeter when you know that the end is near. My left chest still sometimes show pain and when that happens, I know that there is something in there that is about to become a tragedy.  Nothing I can do for now except to live life to the full.  Take one day at a time and do the best I can for the day and then on the next day, look for another day to come.  What an exciting life!

Delete Heart Hardiness; Day537

Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is the man who reverently and worshipfully fears [the Lord] at all times [regardless of circumstances], but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity. Pro 28:14

Heart Hardiness – Just Being Stubborn [unreasonably unyielding]
During my early walk with Christ, I noticed the pattern of stubbornness in me – meaning when the Bible says so [a command] I disobeyed; sometimes I put my feet right on the line or sometimes cross over it.  Some people call it “trying to” but simply put – it is by definition called ‘disobedience’.  In the military term, it is called “disobeying a direct order”.  When we start with a new life in Christ, we are given the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit dwells in us and give us an internal direction of what to do or say or act.  Some people call it conscience telling us to do the right thing or say the right word [it is the Holy Spirit directing us in every way].  When we are told to do something that is right, our best choice is obedience.

Some examples of commands that must be followed:
1. Love God
2. Love your neighbor
3. Read/Understand/Do the Bible
4. Do not get drunk with wine
5. Tame your tongue – Say nice words
6. Have self-control
7. Have perseverance
8. Endure hardship
9. Have patience
10. Pray
11. Meditate on the Word
12. Listen to God when He whispers into your heart
13. Rejoice in hard situation [your patience is being trained]
14. Spend your time wisely

There a secret!  We don’t have to memorize the list mentioned above.  The Holy Spirit will let us know.

3 Years Since My Heart Attack-Day1093

I would like to remind myself from time to time that life is too short.  In 2 days, It will be 3 years since my heart attack.  I am counting the days because I know that my time is limited.  It can happen today or tomorrow and who knows that I will not have the time to write something about what happened.  To my wife Britta, daughter Brittney and son Brent, be it all known unto you that I did my best to keep myself in perfect health; to finish what I had started to do – build my family the best I can.

There are two numbers that I am currently tracking:
1. Stent#1-December 22, 2008 [1093 days]
2. Stent#2-July 2, 2010 [536 days]

To those who don’t know me, here’s a quick summary of the dreadful event including my journal entry in 2008. I don’t want to scare anyone about my heart attack. My reason of exposing it here is to raise awareness of the danger of a heart condition and how it can dramatically change your life.  Heart attack is still the #1 killer in the US. [I did not know that fact until I had mine]. Now you know… so that you too can try to make dramatic changes to your lifestyle, diet, exercise and life in general.

At the age of 42 [Dec of 2008], I had my full blown heart attack [100% occlusion at LAD-Left Anterior Descending].  Nothing changed much except that I am taking medication now and had been very careful not to swim in really cold water. I am a little careful on my diet also but not so fanatically obedient to the cardiac diet laid out my nutritionist. My cardiologist was not giving me a perfect explanation why my LAD was 100% blocked.  Many reasons came up – genetics, diet, age, and mine – a cold water swim.  I am a very active person, I swim, bike and occasionally run.  Most of my activities every week is centered in distance cycling and swimming.  I had always been active since childhood [cardiac wise].  When I was in the US Army, I can finish my 2-mile run in under 16 minutes.  Since I got out from the service in 1996, I’ve switch to cycling and then later in 2005, I included swimming in my training then running.  In short, I am not the typical high risk factor guy that you can pick in the line and say that I will have a cardiac problem down the road.  I said to myself – no way to cardiac problem – since I do 100-mile distance ride every year and I know that my body is in perfect condition and in fact, 2 months before the incident, I just did the Annual Outlaw 100Mile Bike Ride and did my best time.  How so that in the following 2 months, my heart says that it is blocked and no blood flow. What happened in Dec of 2008 will remain a mystery to me.  Was it a life changing event meant to happen? Was it a message to the rest of the world that there are risks out there even if you kept your body in perfect shape?  No one knows.

Today, I just finished a 2.4mile swim at Clay Madsen Pool. The swim is a non-stop race pace event that I intentionally schedule every Tuesday. I’ve added a 25-yard sub surface swim [meaning at 25-yard under water swim – no breath at all]. I had been improving since I started doing this and can comfortably reach the other end of the pool with just 0 breath.

In summary, I think I am doing well as a cardiac patient, 1093 days and counting…

Step1-Be Born Again; Day534

Jesus answered him, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God. Joh 3:3

If someone asks me how my new life all started? My answer is when I gave my life to Christ.  From that time on, it seems like everything fall into the right places. Opportunities, life, relationship, marriage, work and dreams just fits like a huge jigsaw puzzle and I did not even do anything special.  That was 1989 and I can still feel/experience how it works even until now.  How I wish I have a magic wand to touch a person to take the step – but I don’t.  The entry to the Kingdom is voluntary – your free will. We surrender to Him and he takes us as we are.  If you are curious or maybe tired of your life, try taking the Step1 process and see the goodness of life overwhelms you.

Source of Help; Day524

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. Death…Then Life; Day523

But now if Christ (the Messiah) is preached as raised from the dead, how is it that some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen; And if Christ has not risen, then our preaching is in vain [it amounts to nothing] and your faith is devoid of truth and is fruitless (without effect, empty, imaginary, and unfounded). We are even discovered to be misrepresenting God, for we testified of Him that He raised Christ, Whom He did not raise in case it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised; And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is mere delusion [futile, fruitless], and you are still in your sins [under the control and penalty of sin]; And further, those who have died in [spiritual fellowship and union with] Christ have perished (are lost)!  If we who are [abiding] in Christ have hope only in this life and that is all, then we are of all people most miserable and to be pitied. But the fact is that Christ (the Messiah) has been raised from the dead, and He became the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep [in death]. For since [it was] through a man that death [came into the world, it is] also through a Man that the resurrection of the dead [has come].
For just as [because of their union of nature] in Adam all people die, so also [by virtue of their union of nature] shall all in Christ be made alive. 1Co 15:12 -22

Unmerited Favor; Day522

But by the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not [found to be] for nothing (fruitless and without effect). In fact, I worked harder than all of them [the apostles], though it was not really I, but the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God which was with me. 1Co 15:10

Counselor; Day517

Let desolations and death come suddenly upon them; let them go down alive to Sheol (the place of the dead), for evils are in their habitations, in their hearts, and their inmost part. As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord will save me. Psa 55:15-16
