No Variation; Day392; Give Me Your Eyes

Every good gift and every perfect (free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse].  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. When Trouble Comes; Day387

[And indeed] the Lord will certainly deliver and draw me to Himself from every assault of evil. He will preserve and bring me safe unto His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (so be it). 2Timothy 4:18

Fulfill+Hear; Day386; On Being Homeless; Type of Swimmers

He will fulfill the desires of those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him; He also will hear their cry and will save them.  Psalm 145:19

Fulfill-achieve something: to do what is necessary to bring about or achieve something expected, desired, or promised

Being Homeless:
”No one changes anything by playing it safe” The Soloist”

Last week I watched the movie “The Soloist” and my heart was touched.  I almost (just almost) cried during the entire movie and I did not understand why.  The next morning, I woke up with the idea of “The Homeless Mindset”.  What if I am homeless?  Will my life be simpler? Will my life be of less stress? Will my life be of less problems? Will my life be of less hurt/confrontation?  That day I began my day by thinking of being a homeless man and what I found out was interesting.

On being homeless…
1. I don’t have to get up and go to work, a homeless man don’t have a steady job.
2. I don’t have to my make my espresso latte, a homeless man don’t even have a running water.
3. I don’t have to take a shower, homeless man does it on rare occasion only
4. I don’t have to go to my computer and read my daily devotional, a homeless man don’t need it.
5. I don’t have open internet explorer to check my fb account for messages, a homeless don’t have an fb account.
6. I don’t have to open the garage and backup my car, the homeless man has only a “shopping cart” to worry about.
7. I don’t have to worry about crossing an intersection in the highway because a homeless man don’t even have a car.
8. I don’t have to check on my children if they are ready for school, a homeless man don’t have a family.
9. I don’t have badge in at work, a homeless man don’t have a job.
10. I don’t have to attend to morning meetings, a homeless man don’t even have a manager to report to.
11. I don’t have to ride an elevator to go to the 3rd floor, a homeless work is in the street.
12. I don’t have to eat lunch at a specific time, a homeless man don’t even have a food handy.
13. I don’t have to wait on traffic at I35, a homeless man does not use the interstate.
14. I don’t have to call my wife, a homeless man don’t have a wife.
15. I don’t have to call home and check what’s for dinner, a homeless man don’t have defined dinner menus.
16. I don’t have to check my bank account to see if there is any illegal activities, the homeless man has only coins in his pocket.
17. I don’t have to ask my kids “how’s school”, a homeless man has no children to attend to.
18. I don’t have exercise, a homeless man is just as healthy with his current living condition.
19. I don’t have to respond to email, a homeless man don’t even have an AC power to plug in his computer (if he has one)
20. I don’t have to answer a phone call, a homeless man don’t even have a friend that care.

I can add more here if I wanted to.  My point is, we have everything we need in life.  Those little problems we are experiencing is nothing compared to those who live on the street.  If you are reading this journal, you are probably inside a heated or an air conditioned building and enjoying whatever you are reading.  I don’t have huge problems in life anymore, I flushed those out in my mind (problem still there).  Even if they are big, I don’t consider them important and it does not bother me even in a tiny bit. But I have friends close to me that are facing enormous problems, hurt, financial disasters, relationship disasters, mental problems, lack of peace –  I want to encourage you, change the way you think.  Count your blessings, count the good things that you have, count the items in your life that has good value.  Once you have the list, start rebuilding your life using what you already have.  You are far greater equipped than the homeless man on the street.  Don’t play it safe, what if we cannot fail.  And by the way, who draw the line of success and failure in this world?  Success and failure – it does not matter, what matters most is how we enjoy the journey.  I’ve done some long journey/races in my life and what I treasured/remembered most was not the feeling at the starting line or at the finish line, but those that happened during the journey, the rest stops, the failures, the setbacks, the friendship, the tears, the agony, the pain, – those are far more remarkable than crossing the final mile at the end of the journey.

I learned about 4 types of swimmers today at the pool.  I was on Lane3, On lane4 was a guy who was a type3 and I was able to hang with his pace.  On Lane 1 and Lane 5 were guys who were type4.  They were swimming like a fish (smooth and fast).  But on lane2 was a guy who barely can swim.  He spent most of his time paddling and not going anywhere.  I like the type 2 guy because even if he was not moving any faster, he keeps trying across the 25 yard pool and did it several times with a few rest in between.   I probably did around 85 laps today but the type2 swimmer most likely accomplished so much than what I did.  He conquered the water.

Type of swimmers:
1. Those that always think that they want to try swimming
2. Those that tried to get in the water even though they don’t know how to swim
3. Those that can swim
4. Those that can swim very fast

How Long; Day382; Dream-Toothbrush and Bathroom

O you sons of men, how long will you turn my honor and glory into shame? How long will you love vanity and futility and seek after lies? Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself [and given distinction to] him who is godly [the man of loving-kindness]. The Lord listens and heeds when I call to Him. Psa 4:2-3

Dream1: Toothbrush
I was in a open building and there was a toothbrush laying around soaked in a cup of water. I took it and use it even after seeing particles inside the cup and I did not care of any consequences.

Dream2: Bathroom
I was in an overcrowded bathroom. The place was chaotic, dirty and people were loud, crazy and dirty.  People were changing clothes, washing their face and brushing their teeth.  I have to squeeze myself in to get to the sink which has a flowing water.

Fly-Run-Walk—>Forever; Day378

He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound]. [II Cor. 12:9.]  Even youths shall faint and be weary, and [selected] young men shall feebly stumble and fall exhausted; But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. [Heb. 12:1-3.] Isa 40:29-31

Power to weak and not to the strong.  Power to the defeated and the lowly and not to those who are great and successful.  So encouraging that during the times of our weaknesses, we are given the strength to go on.  There is only one requirement- we have to wait.  Wait on His signal, wait on His commands and wait on His leadership.  Wait = praying, listening and more listening and listen without doing any drastic decision.  Let the whole situation boils down to a cooler mood, then you act.

I’ve been tasked lately to perform a data recovery on a dead hard drive and I failed.  Then I remember that I have one dead SCSI drive from one of my Dell server that will not spin and it gives out an error “drive timeout-waiting to initialized”.  I ran a Seagate diagnostic application and the software was unable to even recognize the drive.  I had this problem a year ago and I gave up on the drive but kept it in my office.  Part of my experimentation at home was to dissect/disassemble a broken part (anything usually that i want to open) and I remember that I have this dead SCSI drive just waiting to be thrown away.  So today, I decided to perform a surgery and see if I can learn something.  Miraculously, after I put back together all the parts and then ran the test, the drive started working.

Lesson Learned:
1. Dead drive does not mean that the drive is dead.
2. Try separating the controller from the mechanical part, it could just be a poor electrical contact
3. When buying drives, stick to one brand, one model so during recovery, you can just swap controllers.  (I think this is how the professionals do it, swapping controllers, mechanical parts and spindle)

Do Greater Things; Day376; Level 4 Living

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father. John 14:12

I found a great message for 2010-Level 4 Living. Thanks to HelenjoyA, she was part of the incredible story on how I end up listening to Level4 Living message by Chuck Booher (he started a series on the topic back in the beginning of 2009 last year).  When you get a chance, download the audio to your mp3 player or listen it online.

Hidden Purpose; Day375-121121/4731; Crossroads

Take notice! I tell you a mystery (a secret truth, an event decreed by the hidden purpose or counsel of God). We shall not all fall asleep [in death], but we shall all be changed (transformed) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the [sound of the] last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [in Christ] will be raised imperishable (free and immune from decay), and we shall be changed (transformed). For this perishable [part of us] must put on the imperishable [nature], and this mortal [part of us, this nature that is capable of dying] must put on immortality (freedom from death).  And when this perishable puts on the imperishable and this that was capable of dying puts on freedom from death, then shall be fulfilled the Scripture that says, Death is swallowed up (utterly vanquished forever) in and unto victory. [Isa. 25:8.] 1Co 15:51-54

Many of you are wondering about what those numbers are for. The first one is a countdown to the age that I need to surpass. Why? I don’t really know, it just popped in my head.  So on this day, I have 12 years 11 months and 21 days left (`4731 days).  Get it!  I am particular with days because something happened to me last year.  The 375 days count is the number of days after my heart attack.  I am not proud of that number because it does not really represents anything, it is just a number of days I survived.  Ever wondered what I was thinking last January 1, 2009, read my entry here.  That day, it was only my Day008 and there were so many questions in my mind at that time.  I did not even know if I am able to survive cardiac rehab.  Some questions I asked: Will I wake up again the next day? Will I be able to drive safely? Will I be able to work? Will I be able to swim, bike and run again?  Will I be able to live a normal life?  Will I be able to function again as a normal person?  Will my heart fully recover? So many questions flashed to my mind that day and I can’t even imagine how to survive the next day.  I don’t want to put more drama on this but I want you to realize that those events that happened to me were just tiny little crossroads that I have to endure – to bring a change into my life, to take me to another level in my faith and to send a message to those close to me that the events that they witnessed are the workings from Someone above us. Seek Him.

Recently, I had a short conversation with a close friend and he told me about his recent life changes (again).  There were so many “unfortunate events”/”undesirable effects” (UE) in his life and most of them were really out of the normal that most of us might not even experience in a lifetime. I know that I am more blessed than anyone else in the world, I am not bragging, I count my blessings even if it is an unfortunate event, I will still call it a blessing (therefore-more blessings). Unfortunate events are crossroads and it has to be handled carefully or else we will end up way off course in our life. I bike a lot and most of the time, I know all the routes even when I go out to those small county roads in Georgetown, Texas with no road signs because I’ve been there already plus I know the general location/markers of the county and if I ever get lost, I will just have to rely on my land navigation skills using the position of the sun and the wind and I am pretty sure I can get back to my home within hours.  But how do I handle crossroads in my life.  How can I tell that my decision is the right one for me?  How can I discern if the person I am relating to or doing business with is genuine?  How can I know that when I dive into something, the result will be to my favor.

Here’s my measuring cup when dealing with crossroads. (Phil 4.8) (Then Phil 4.9)
1. Is it true?
2. Is it noble?
3. Is it just?
4. Is it pure?
5. Is it lovely?
6. Is it of good report?
7. Is it of virtue?
8. Is it praiseworthy?
Then the promise: “The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you”. Phil 4.9
