Hungry, Thirsty; Stranger; Day362

For I was in need of food, and you gave it to me: I was in need of drink, and you gave it to me: I was wandering, and you took me in; Mat 25:35

When accommodating someone near our presence, the treatment that we give to those whom we know is different compared to the one that is a stranger to us.  To care for somebody who are close to us is an easy task because we see them daily and sometimes  they rewards us with something.  When we treat a total stranger in a special way, there is no way for them to pay us in return, hence there is no underlying gratification that is coming.  A stranger don’t normally has the ability to give back to us.  When you do something good to a stranger, you are expecting nothing in return. The stranger symbolizes not just the physical person but those who are a stranger “spiritually”.  Reach out to those who are wandering in the world, those that are lost, those that are not in your circle of friends and  those that you don’t even see.  Doing so fulfills your duty as God’s servant for your hands is His Hands and your mouth is His mouth. Be totally used for His Kingdom – not just to the people you know.

Living The Life; Day359; Day0012

But you are not living the life of the flesh, you are living the life of the Spirit, if the [Holy] Spirit of God [really] dwells within you [directs and controls you]. But if anyone does not possess the [Holy] Spirit of Christ, he is none of His [he does not belong to Christ, is not truly a child of God]. [Rom. 8:14.] Rom 8:9

We struggle sometimes on how to keep our mind and heart and mouth straight. We are human beings – being in the flesh; and sometimes there are temptations that comes our way that sometimes pushes our walk with God to the side. Many instances that we realize that what we did or what we said was not right. Then we start to keep things right again by drawing a line – “I will never say that again” or “I will never do that again” then in a few days we repeat the cycle.  In reality, those personal rules and guidelines does not work.  We can discipline ourselves to perform a specific rule but that method can only go on for sometime [not forever].  So how can we really become a “near perfect person’”? The true answer is – live the life in Spirit of Christ.  No rules – just plain living in the Spirit.

Day0012 in CMPSLI yesterday and the progress for the cure of the major problems in CMP is around 50%.  Finding the solution took a while due to a different scenario in cuCMP. Experience taught me a lot of things but  finding the solution to the “unload retry” problems were just a pure Wisdom from God.  I’ve used several problem solving techniques – brainstorm, FMEA, Fishbone.  Those tool were of great help but did not really complete the puzzle.  It was the whisper of the Holy Spirit that showed me on where to tweak a certain parameter to fix the problem. To God be the glory!

Faithful and Wise Steward; Day358

And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful steward, the wise man whom his master will set over those in his household service to supply them their allowance of food at the appointed time?  Luk 12:42

Steward/Servant-one that serves others <a public servant>; especially: one that performs duties about the person or home of a master or personal employer.

I went  for a 1 mile yesterday and everything was normal except that my left chest has a tingling pain enough to get my attention.  Somehow being a cardiac patient is a good thing.  Thinking as as one makes you feel and appreciate life on every heartbeat.  I wake up this morning with a heavy heart. and needed a jolt of a latte just to keep going.  I am not worried nor afraid of death but sometimes it bothers me thinking that I have a “not so perfect heart pump” inside me. When I opened today’s devotional, the words encouraged me the more to keep hoping even when there is no physical hope.  Be faithful in serving others and there is no need to worry about  provisions.  God will provide in His timetable – even for just another extra heartbeat.

How do I remember her?

Britta came home today with a very sad message.  Her co-worker [my swim friend] Jan was found unconscious this morning at home after she failed to report to work last night. Had very light pulse and not breathing.  She had to be coded 8x. Currently she in life support, breathing indicated by the rise and fall of her chest and heart rate at 78 bpm as shown in the machine.

I don’t know much about Jan personally but in the pool, we know each other very well.  She is the girl that swims for 90 minutes non-stop at a very high pace.  I’ve raced with her several times side by side but somehow, her light built made her so buoyant and fast in the water that I could never keep up her pace. I do a 2.4 mile swim when I’m in the pool but this girl outlasted me every time she workout.  I am still believing for a miracle for her.  that despite all the “no brain activities” during the EEG test that somehow she is just recuperating internally.  There’s a few long distance and endurance swimmer at Clay Madsen, in fact, she is the only one that I know that do more than 2.4 miles.  She is fit and I know that her heart is strong.

Lord, I know in the physical world, all points to the very close end of her life.  Doctors are nodding their head, and machine indicators showing a very negative outlook of her survivability, but despite of all that, I want you to give her another chance.  Revive her physically, put some brain activities in the test so that the people that take care of her right now will not give up on her.  I am asking all these in Jesus name. Amen.

BookSummary: Fifth Discipline

The five disciplines of the learning organization discussed in the book are:
1) "Personal mastery is a discipline of continually clarifying and deepening our personal vision, of focusing our energies, of developing patience, and of seeing reality objectively." (p. 7)
2) "Mental models are deeply ingrained assumptions, generalizations, or even pictures of images that influence how we understand the world and how we take action." (p. 8)
3) "Building shared vision a practice of unearthing shared pictures of the future that foster genuine commitment and enrollment rather than compliance." (p. 9)
4) "Team learning starts with dialogue, the capacity of members of a team to suspend assumptions and enter into genuine thinking together." (p. 10)
5) Systems thinking – The Fifth Discipline that integrates the other 4.

"Systems thinking also needs the disciplines of building shared vision, mental models, team learning, and personal mastery to realize its potential. Building shared vision fosters a commitment to the long term. Mental models focus on the openness needed to unearth shortcomings in our present ways of seeing the world. Team learning develops the skills of groups of people to look for the larger picture beyond individual perspectives. And personal mastery fosters the personal motivation to continually learn how our actions affect our world." (p. 12)

The Learning Disabilities
1) "I am my position."

People fail to recognize their purpose as a part of the enterprise. Instead, they see themselves as an inconsequential part of a system over which they have little influence, leading them to limit themselves to the jobs they must perform at their own positions. This makes it hard to pinpoint the reason an enterprise is failing, with so many hidden ‘loose screws’ around.
2) "The enemy out there."
3) The Illusion of Taking Charge
4) The Fixation of Events

The tendency to see things as results of short-term events undermines our ability to see things on a grander scale. Cave men needed to react to events quickly for survival. However, the biggest threats we face nowadays are rarely sudden events, but slow, gradual processes, such as environmental changes.
5) The Parable of the Boiling frog
6) The Delusion of Learning from Experience
7) The Myth of the Management Team

The 11 Laws of the Fifth Discipline

1) Today’s problems come from yesterday’s "solutions."
2) The harder you push, the harder the system pushes back.
3) Behavior will grow better before it grows worse.
4) The easy way out usually leads back in.
5) The cure can be worse than the disease.
6) Faster is slower.
7) Cause and effect are not closely related in time and space.
8) Small changes can produce big results…but the areas of highest leverage are often the least obvious.
9) You can have your cake and eat it too —but not all at once.
10) Dividing an elephant in half does not produce two small elephants.
11) There is no blame.

[E. Stanley Jones tells about a poor man who had an overnight guest, and as he showed him to his humble bedroom in the hayloft he said, “If there is anything you want, let us know, and we’ll come and show you how to get along without it.” We don’t need to learn how to get more, but how to get along with what we’ve got, and get on with the business of living.]
