Principle: Staying Pure

“If your thinking is controlled by your sinful self, there is spiritual death. But if your thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace. Why is this true? Because anyone whose thinking is controlled by their sinful self is against God. They refuse to obey God’s law. And really they are not able to obey it. Those who are ruled by their sinful selves cannot please God.” Romans 8:6-8 ERV

757 million seconds

757,382,400 seconds
12,623,040 minutes
210,384 hours
8766 days
1252 weeks
24 years

The finish line is not the 25th anniversary or the 50th or the 75th.  The finish line is when you hold each other’s hand until one departs to the next life.  I am not celebrating but I just want to signify this day that me and my wife had reached a milestone.  I know it’s not always victory and smile and we don’t always agree in most of our ideas but at least we kept honoring the promise we made – to be together.

757 million seconds is a long time [I think].

#18. Desire To Be With God

“At night my soul longs to be with you, and the spirit in me wants to be with you at the dawn of every new day. When your way of justice comes to the world, people will learn the right way of living.” Isaiah 26:9 ERV

Desire to be with God (not just knowing Him)
We live in a very busy and chaotic world and sometimes we forgot that the existence of a Higher being. We are consumed with our daily chores and hectic to do list. The demands of life sometimes overwhelmed us as we succumb to an enormous responsibilities of being human and the fast pace existence draw us to more countless demands of life and we eventually forgot that there is such a person called God.

A 90+ years old very healthy grandfather once asked by his grandson “Grandpa, why do you move so slow? Grandpa responded, I’m not not going anywhere so there’s no need to rush.” When we are almost finished living in this world, we sometimes think that there is nothing more for us. Kids are successful, there is roof above my head and food in the table and I am living comfortably on my pre-departure phase. I’m just waiting for my time of departure and I’ll be forever gone from this world. Imagine if the Bible did not mention eternity. Imagine if we all just perish at the end of our tenure here on earth. We don’t really know for sure what it’s like after this life but I’d rather be believing that I will be in paradise when I leave earth than imagining that I will be forever gone.

I will always have a desire to be with God… one day. It makes my journey here on earth more interesting and lively and I can face death with great expectation than anything else.

Principle: Love Someone Visible

“If we say we love God but hate any of our brothers or sisters in his family, we are liars. If we don’t love someone we have seen, how can we love God? We have never even seen him.” 1 John 4:20 ERV

Love someone visible first, then love God.

Principle: Carry Something/Someone

“Then Jesus called the crowd and his followers to him. He said, “Any of you who want to be my follower must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me. Any of you who try to save the life you have will lose it. But you who give up your life for me and for the Good News will save it.” Mark 8:34, 35 ERV

Principle: Empty Your Bucket

“Give to others, and you will receive. You will be given much. It will be poured into your hands—more than you can hold. You will be given so much that it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you.”” Luke 6:38 ERV

Do you have money? Give some so others may find comfort.
Do you have wisdom? Speak or write so others may solve a difficult problem.
Do you have power? Delegate so others may lead.
Do you have knowledge? Teach so others may learn.
Do you have the skills? Train so others can benefit.
Do you have faith in God? Share so others may find peace.
Do you have the counsel of the Holy Spirit, reveal it so others may find the way.

Empty your bucket daily so the next day you wake up, He can add more.
He cannot pour more resources when He sees that the vessels we are carrying is still full.

NOTES: Bloom’s Taxonomy

Desire #2-Curiosity, the desire for cognition and learning from “Normal Personality” got me curious about how to improve learning and how to encourage slow learners and to motivate people that has “less desire” for curiosity.

I found the answers in Bloom’s Taxonomy.

The Reason Why…

“Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 ERV

It’s been many years that I had been searching for answers as to why people do bad things or have an evil desire to hurt or offend someone or inflict pain to humanity or why people lacks a desire for true spirituality or why someone is filled with hatred or anger or why sometimes I feel bad and down and distraught.

Our enemy is real and we must be constantly aware of the fact that “they” are always searching for people whom they may devour. They use temptations to lure us to do something rightful at first but then in the end we are heading for destruction. There is no need to explain much on this subject – try going out with the wrong crowd if you are a family person and later you realize that you are doing things that your spouse will not be happy. Then later on small problems arises as a consequence of your indiscretion.

Our enemy [the devil] is real.

Principle: Don’t Stay In The Cave Forever

““You are the light that shines for the world to see. You are like a city built on a hill that cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 ERV

Balance your exposure.

Principle: Desire Everything But …

“I may have the gift of prophecy, I may understand all secrets and know everything there is to know, and I may have faith so great that I can move mountains. But even with all this, if I don’t have love, I am nothing.” 1 Corinthians 13:2 ERV

“A person who is so intelligent and discovered a possible cure for cancer but then dies and was not able to formulate a final cure.”

“A person who has billions of dollars in the bank but had not lift a finger to help the poor.”

“A person who thinks he knows a lot of things but has not shared it to humanity.”

“A person who has nothing to offer but love and did everything for humanity, have accomplished the greatest.”

When we add “LOVE” to anything that we aspire, it changes everything.

Desire everything but … starts with love, it’s more rewarding in the end.

#17. Desire To Know God

A few weeks ago, I came across the book – The Normal Personality by Steven Reiss [read myNotes]. Reiss and his team conducted a comprehensive research regarding the subject “motivation” and his team came up with a list of 16 Desires [see list below].

I don’t disagree with Reiss’ findings but I have an unresolved dilemma — I cannot categorize my “desire to know God” on any of the 16 Desires. I’ve tried Honor and Idealism and then Tranquility but it does not fit quite well.  Watch the interview of Shannon below and then listen to the song over and over and maybe you can help me identify what desires she have as she talks about the story of her song ‘Exalted One’.

So for my own use, I have to add #17, Spirituality, the desire to know God.  Perhaps, being a Christian is not or cannot be considered as Normal Personality. ;-]

Maybe Paul was right when he described Christians as peculiar  people: “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:14

“peculiar-beyond or deviating from the usual or expected”

# Motive Description
1 Acceptance the desire to avoid criticism and rejection
2 Curiosity the desire for cognition
3 Eating the desire for food
4 Family the desire to raise one’s own children
5 Honor the desire to behave morally
6 Idealism the desire for social justice
7 Independence the desire for self-reliance
8 Order the desire for structure
9 Physical Activity the desire to move one’s muscles
10 Power the desire for influence of will
11 Romance the desire for sex
12 Saving the desire to collect
13 Social Contact the desire for friendship
14 Status the desire for prestige
15 Tranquility the desire for inner peace
16 Vengeance the desire to get even
17 Spirituality the desire to know God [added by blindcaveman]

Think The Unthinkable

“because I am doing something new! Now you will grow like a new plant. Surely you know this is true. I will even make a road in the desert, and rivers will flow through that dry land.” Isaiah 43:19 ERV

I’d like to start my year thinking the impossibilities and the unthinkable so that by the end of this year, I can say to myself that I am able to overcome the hardships. I am an optimist but I am also practical. I am aware that even if I think that 2014 will be an easy year, I am also practical that there will be “unknown hardships” along the way. But then the Bible promised “a road in the desert and rivers in the dry land” and it gives me hope imagining the unthinkable — that surely it can be overcome.
