> Normal Service; Day374

O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? Now sin is the sting of death, and sin exercises its power [upon the soul] through [the abuse of] the Law. But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory [making us conquerors] through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose].  1Corinthians 15:55-58

Faith has been the hardest thing to understand. The more you do good things, the more you are drawn to go in the opposite direction.  The more you say “I promise not to do it again”, the more tendency we are to do the exact opposite and that is why I think New Years Resolution fails.  We tried so hard to do the right thing and always end up doing the negative thing.  So how are we suppose to handle things in life if rules and strict regulations are not the real answer? The answer-don’t rely on the rules (the law), but instead abide to what has been established-“the work of the Lord”.  If it pleases and glorify God, then do it.  Measure up on this question and the rules don’t apply because we are not anymore under law but under grace.  It is hard to understand the true meaning of “working for/with God” because we know He did it already at the cross but through the mindset of always associating the very tiny details of our lives for His work, I believe that even the smallest and simplest positive thing we do for mankind is considered a greater than normal service to humanity. Don’t start a New Year’s resolution in 2010 but instead do everything that you think is good, there are so many.

To all my virtual friends and strangers. Let’s start the new decade and the new year in a positive way.  Happy New Year!

Tuned In Correctly; Day373

The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages. [To all eternity they shall never by any means be destroyed.] And no one is able to snatch them out of My hand.  John 10:27-28

True fellowship – we not just hear but listen and not just listen but follow.  The last portion is the hardest.

When On Trials; Day372; .Net2.0 Revisited

BUT NOW [in spite of past judgments for Israel’s sins], thus says the Lord, He Who created you, O Jacob, and He Who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you. Isaiah 43.1-2

My Virtual Pantalan
image
Date:20091227
Location: San Gabriel River near Hwy 29
My virtual pantalan in Texas. When I was growing up in Merida (a small town in Leyte, Philippines) the pantalan [A Pier] was my regular place of solitude. Almost every morning, I ride my bike there just to see the sunrise and listen to the sound of the waves. The place is so peaceful in the morning and not too many people goes there for meditation. I was looking for a place like that here in Texas and I think I accidentally stumbled one. This is the place! Although it is 15 miles from home, I managed to make this place as a regular retreat every week. (Bike with me and you can feel how enjoyable a simple place like this can be.) I think people don’t need to travel far, there is always a special place somewhere undiscovered with hidden beauty.

I underestimated my new project of 3 water bottles per day of H2O.  When the clock was 2200h last night, I was still at the beginning of bottle#3. I have two hours to consume the 27oz of water and I was planning to go to bed by midnight or 1am.  Well, I have to force myself to do it because I told myself that I have to do it.  It’s going to be a long year of drinking water.  Long distance swim yesterday was fine (the usual 2.4) with the same pace, the same crowd, the same lifeguard, same chlorine smell. I felt that I needed to change my swimming training, it’s been boring nowadays doing the long distance swim.  My body already adapted to the training and I needed to change something (I don’t know yet).  I stopped because I reached my distance goal but I still had a lot of energy left in me.  Heart rate probably was on the 100’s (very low, not strenuous).

I accomplished a few things yesterday as I indicated in my MIT. I went to MB of Georgetown to get my wife’s low beam bulb fixed.  Spent around 1 hour to change 2 defective bulbs. It was still under warranty and cost was zero.  I’ve already googled on how to DIY the repair, I just needed to use up my warranty.

It’s been a while since I worked on ASP.net 2.0.  When Sharepoint 3.0 came out, I shifted all my DB programming to Sharepoint because it is so easy to deploy a simple data entry and queries.  Then as months goes by, I realized that Sharepoint has limitations regarding data access and it could not perform what I wanted to do with a certain data.  So then I dug up my notes and old projects and still found some useful templates in them.  I thought I have to start from ground zero but when I started playing with Visual Web Developer 2008, the projects that I build on .Net 2.0 was still working.  I am working on Windows 2008 environment and IIS7 was giving me a hard time.  Microsoft really changed the UI for IIS7 and I have to relearn where a certain features resides.

I am not a true .Net programmer, my background is more on hardware and electronics but I found Visual programming interesting and doable and easy to learn and that is why I am on this journey.  This is not my full time job but going through the motions with the project creates a more complex journey of learning (love the challenge) and later great results that might help somebody out there.  So if you are in the same journey, don’t hesitate to contact me. This is not a HOWTO document to show you step by step on how to deploy the project but rather a roadmap on how to start a project and finish it.  I have no other objectives but to learn. Join me as I took a dive into an unknown territories of web database development.  I think it will be fun.  If you already are a seasoned .Net programmer, help me out. Maybe we can join hands in tackling a project.  Please let me know if you are interested so that I can give you an account to my web server and you can start develop a project remotely anywhere in the world.

Be Still; Day371; 3 Water Bottles Per Day

Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth!  Psalm 46.10

I started a new experiment yesterday – drink 2 liters of water everyday (the rest of my life)., I calculated my daily water requirement and I need to drink 2 liters of water every day.  This is going to be an add-on to my ongoing experiment with Bagel breakfast and Clif Bar lunch +Latte.  So far I never failed on those two ongoing experiments for 9 months now. Swim Bike and Run experiments will continue in parallel with the rest of experiments that I mentioned.  I will be living in a virtual cave so if you need me, please just email or text.  Don’t be alarmed that I will be quite sometimes, if I am still updating my journal then that will tell you that my brain and fingers are still coordinated.

For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace.  Isa 9:6

We celebrate Christmas every year but often times we miss the true meaning of His birth.  The true meaning of His birth lies not in the beginning of His life but in the outcome of what He did for us.  Christmas was just the first step of His grandiose plan. Keep searching.

Joh 10:27  My sheep give ear to my voice, and I have knowledge of them, and they come after me:
Joh 10:28  And I give them eternal life; they will never come to destruction, and no one will ever take them out of my hand.

Today. I’ve decided to take a vow of silence indefinitely.  I will still be writing a journal but it will not be viewable by the public.  I don’t know where this is going but I just had an impression in my heart to do it and I have to obey.

What went well?

1. I had to recover a hard drive failure last night.  It took me 6hours to finally recover the data and get the pc back on line.  I was not satisfied with the time I spent on recovery.  In theory, it should just be at most 2 hours.  I learned a few lessons along the way.  Overall, got the drive going again without resorting to installing a new drive.
What didn’t go so well?
1. Problem definition took a while (1hr).  The initial complaint was the software was sluggish and timing out waiting for the next command.  The history of what happened was not clearly stated most likely due to “fear factor” of getting blamed.  If I’ve known right away of how it started, I could have formulate the problem statement right at the start of troubleshooting and then work myself backwards to fix the problem.  Instead, I have to piece together what really happened and make assumptions.

DREAM: Me and the family were in a cruise ship. I was late in boarding but I saw my family were in inside already. Britta was in the cockpit like area of the ship cooking something.  The flame was so intense and then an explosion.  I was still below deck when this happened and there was chaos all over the place.  The cruise ship rocked from side to side and collided with other boats along the path.  Then there was silence and I thought for a while that I lost my family for good but then I saw Britta watching over Brent who was sleeping (with pacifier) at the lower deck.  I looked at Britta’s eyes and without words we climb the stairs together carrying Brent who was sleeping soundly.

Good Deeds Recorded; Day352

Heb 6:10  For God is not unrighteous to forget or overlook your labor and the love which you have shown for His name’s sake in ministering to the needs of the saints (His own consecrated people), as you still do.

I Corintians 13. 4-8 I’ve seen this verse today when I got up this morning. To most of you out there it does not mean anything but to me it means a lot – the seed is growing little by little and may it continue to grow day by day.

1Co 13:4  Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.
1Co 13:5  It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
1Co 13:6  It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.
1Co 13:7  Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
1Co 13:8  Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

What went well?

1. 5K Swim. It’s been a while since I’ve done a 5k swim.  I just wanted to know if I am still able to do it without problems.  The total workout was 105 laps (1h, 45min non-stop) .  Halfway of the event, I began to experience boredom but then a few guys came in and started hammering at a higher pace and we started racing.  I could not keep up with them, I think they were professional swimmers.  My goal was to stay at a comfortable pace (1min 50/100m) and I did that for the whole duration.  I stopped because I reached my objective – 5K but I still had a lot of energy left after the swim.  I took my heart rate at the end of the workout and it was only 90 bpm – meaning I was not exerting enough effort during the swim.

What didn’t go so well?
1. My 2002 GMC Yukon “Service Engine Soon” light is on and I have to react and find out what is wrong with my truck.  I went to Christian Brother’s Automotive and the diagnostic will cost me $92.00.   I decided to google the problem first and one guy suggested to go to Auto Zone and let them read the code.  Once there, the salesperson inserted a diagnostic gadget to the ECM Port and then went to his printer and printed out the code for me.

Always Forgiving; Day351; 5K Swim

Psa 130:1  A Song of Ascents. OUT OF the depths have I cried to You, O Lord.
Psa 130:2  Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
Psa 130:3  If You, Lord, should keep account of and treat [us according to our] sins, O Lord, who could stand? [Ps. 143:2; Rom. 3:20; Gal. 2:16.]
Psa 130:4  But there is forgiveness with You [just what man needs], that You may be reverently feared and worshiped. [Deut. 10:12.]

forgiveness – act of pardoning somebody for a mistake or wrongdoing.

I used to think that God will punish me whenever I do something bad.  As I began to grow as a Christian, I realized that He is a forgiving God.  No, He is not punishing us because we did something horrible, the sufferings are the consequence of own misdeeds.  Sometimes our situations becomes so difficult and unbearable and then we blame God for those tears and hardship we deal with everyday.  There are consequences in our own actions.  Those consequences are “man made” meaning – we created it.  But with God’s wisdom and guidance, He will guide us and lead us into a better situation.  Don’t give up!

Lately, I’ve been in contact with several people that has problems -local friends, co-workers, distant friends, out of the circle friends and always I can summarize the root cause of their (including me) problems – UNFORGIVENESS, the inability to tolerate a mistake.  So today, I searched some articles regarding the subject and compiled it for your easy reading. Please read it slowly and understand it and then put it into action.  They key to a clear mind is zero un-forgiveness in our heart.

LOOKING BACK – YESTERDAY
What went well?

1. I went out for a cold weather cycling yesterday at 46’F because last week I skipped my routine because of the weather and yesterday’s weather was almost identical of last Monday’s weather.  I cannot let the weather dictate my routines so yesterday I brave myself to go out even if it was really cold.  At 45’F, the weather is already cold enough to shock my body and add a 15 mph speed on the bike, the 45’F felt more likely at 40’s.  Fast forward 37 miles later, the ordeal was over.  I survived.
pictures

What didn’t go so well?
1. Case #1. My daughter is on her 2nd and final warning of driving fast in the corners and driving with one hand only.  She thinks she is already a level10 driver.  Yesterday was cold and raining when we picked up Brent from school.  It was my turn to pickup Brent but she volunteered to drive.  I was not comfortable yet so I hopped in in the passenger side of the pickup truck and off we drove.  I noticed that her driving at corners (left turn at Gattis School road was just >than normal speed.  I called her attention again (I mentioned this a million times already warning her but she is not listening).  I think she is thinking that I cannot take her car away from her.   Will see.
The reason why I emphasized to her about slowing down at corners because a few months ago, I was turning left at AW Grimes when my Yukon went out of control while cornering and I did a 360’ turn in the intersection.  I was blessed there were no cars on both sides of the intersection and nothing happened.  Her car has the same engine as my car (a V8) but only with a lighter body/frame.  Imagine how that Colorado pickup truck handles corners at high speed.

My countermeasure:
1. I gave her a 5 minute lecture about accidents
2. I let her wrote the consequences of poor driving habits (on a piece of paper)
a. Death
b. Crippled
c. Brain dead
e. Unnecessary car repairs
f.  Unnecessary car insurance cost
g. Her future can change forever

2. Case #2.  My daughter again received a warning from the home network administrator to remove her name for the group she joined on Facebook with the foul language in the title.  I think Facebook admin should filter those group creation with negative message.  I went to her notebook and wrote down her laptop’s mac address and gave her a warning if another violation is noted in her account, her wireless connection at home will be disconnected.

My Countermeasure:
1. Do this or you lose it (Rules and Systems – home version)

Am I so strict?  No, not really.  I laid out some rules in the household and it needs to be followed for safety reasons (and sometimes sanity).  Rules are there to establish “peace and order”.  I still need to write my own version of Rules and Systems at home (governance). This is another big project ;-().

Our Advocate; Day347; Snow Forecast

Advocate – somebody giving support; helper

DW- The Lord’s Mercies Never Fail

Dream: Field Training Exercise:
I was in a convoy when a fast moving vehicle (running in reverse) trying to catch up with the convoy (with people inside yelling to us to stop).  At the end of the road there was a fatal accident. Saw a lot of people dead lying around all over the place. I helped in pulling and rescuing the people that were trapped. One old lady was pinned down by the vehicle (jeepney).

Convoy-The Church, the Body of Christ
People in the vehicle – The world (opposing mind – in reverse, different beliefs) asking for help of a future incident
Accident area – The ministry – calling. Helping people and lifting burdens
Dead people – Spiritually dead people.
Jeepney – Symbolizes hometown.

Today’s weather forecast is snow at 9am-10am.
