Phi 1:21 –
For to me to live is Christ – My sole aim in living is to glorify Christ. He is the supreme End of my life, and I value it only as being devoted to his honor – Doddridge. His aim was not honor, learning, gold, pleasure; it was, to glorify the Lord Jesus. This was the single purpose of his soul – a purpose to which he devoted himself with as much singleness and ardor as ever did a miser to the pursuit of gold, or a devotee of pleasure to amusement, or an aspirant for fame to ambition. This implied the following things:
(1) a purpose to know as much of Christ as it was possible to know – to become as fully acquainted as he could with his rank, his character, his plans, with the relations which he sustained to the Father, and with the claims and influences of his religion; see Phi_3:10; Eph_3:19; compare Joh_17:3.
(2) a purpose to imitate Christ – to make him the model of his life. It was a design that his Spirit should reign in his heart, that the same temper should actuate him, and that the same great end should be constantly had in view.
(3) a purpose to make his religion known, as far as possible, among mankind. To this, Paul seriously gave his life, and devoted his great talents. His aim was to see on bow many minds he could impress the sentiments of the Christian religion; to see to how many of the human family he could make Christ known, to whom he was unknown before. Never was there a man who gave himself with more ardor to any enterprise, than Paul did to this; and never was one more successful, in any undertaking, than he was in this.
(4) it was a purpose to enjoy Christ. He drew his comforts from him. His happiness he found in communion with him. It was not in the works of art; not in the pursuits of elegant literature; not in the frivolous and fashionable world; but it was in communion with the Saviour, and in endeavoring to please him.
Remarks On Philippians 1:21
(1) Paul never had occasion to regret this course. It produced no sadness when he looked over his life. He never felt that he had had an unworthy aim of living; he did not wish that his purpose had been different when he came to die.
(2) if it was Paul’s duty thus to live, it is no less that of every Christian. What was there in his case that made it his duty to “live unto Christ,” which does not exist in the case of every sincere Christian on earth? No believer, when he comes to die, will regret that he has lived unto Christ; but how many, alas, regret that this has not been the aim and purpose of their souls!
And to die is gain – Compare Rev_14:13. A sentiment similar to this occurs frequently in the Greek and Latin classic writers. See Wetstein, in loc., who has collected numerous such passages. With them, the sentiment had its origin in the belief that they would be freed from suffering, and admitted to some happy world beyond the grave. To them, however, all this was conjecture and uncertainty. The word “gain,” here, means profit, advantage; and the meaning is, there would be an advantage in dying above that of living. Important benefits would result to him personally, should he die; and the only reason why he should wish at all to live was, that he might be the means of benefiting others; Phi_1:24-25. But how would it be gain to die? What advantage would there be in Paul’s circumstances? What in ours? It may be answered, that it will be gain for a Christian to die in the following respects:
(1) He will be then freed from sin. Here it is the source of perpetual humiliation and sorrow; in heaven be will sin no more.
(2) he will be freed from doubts about his condition. Here the best are liable to doubts about their personal piety, and often experience many an anxious hour in reference to this point; in heaven, doubt will be known no more.
(3) he will be freed from temptation. Here, no one knows when he may be tempted, nor how powerful the temptation may be; in heaven, there will be no allurement to lead him astray; no artful, cunning, and skillful votaries of pleasure to place inducements before him to sin; and no heart to yield to them, if there were.
(4) he will be delivered from all his enemies – from the slanderer, the calumniator, the persecutor. Here the Christian is constantly liable to have his motives called in question, or to be met with detraction and slander; there, there will be none to do him injustice; all will rejoice in the belief that he is pure,
(5) He will be delivered from suffering. Here he is constantly liable to it. His health fails, his friends die, his mind is sad. There, there shall be no separation of friends, no sickness, and no tears.
(6) he will be delivered from death. Here, death is always near – dreadful, alarming, terrible to our nature. There, death will be known no more. No face will ever turn pale, and no knees tremble, at his approach; in all heaven there will never be seen a funeral procession, nor will the soil there ever open its bosom to furnish a grave.
(7) to all this may be added the fact, that the Christian will be surrounded by his best friends; that he will be reunited with those whom he loved on earth; that he will be associated with the angels of light; and that he will be admitted to the immediate presence of his Saviour and his God! Why, then, should a Christian be afraid to die? And why should he not hail that hour, when it comes, as the hour of his deliverance, and rejoice that he is going home? Does the prisoner, long confined in a dungeon, dread the hour which is to open his prison, and permit him to return to his family and friends? Does the man in a foreign land, long an exile, dread the hour when he shall embark on the ocean to be conveyed where he may embrace the friends of his youth? Does the sick man dread the hour which restores him to health; the afflicted, the hour of comfort? the wanderer at night, the cheering light of returning day? And why then should the Christian dread the hour which will restore him to immortal rigor; which shall remove all his sorrows; which shall introduce him to everlasting day?Death is the crown of life:

It was brought to my attention that there is a good alternative to VoIP which requires no physical computer. The requirements:

As a human phenomenon, however, freedom is all too human. Human freedom is finite freedom. Man is not free from conditions. But he is free to take a stand in regard to them. The conditions do not completely condition him. Within limits it is up to him whether or not he succumbs and surrenders to the conditions. He may as well rise above them and by so doing open up and enter the human dimension . . . Ultimately, man is not subject to the conditions that confront him; rather, these conditions are subject to his decision. Wittingly or unwittingly, he decides whether he will face up or give in, whether or not he will let himself be determined by the conditions.
Types of Will
1. Will to meaning-basic striving of man to find and fulfill meaning and purpose in life
2. Will to pleasure-drive to seek pleasure
3. Will to power-drive to seek power
4. Will to pride – drive to seek fame
How many of us have looked forward to a beautifully planned holiday and then felt disappointed after it was over? How often does the promise of pleasure captivate us, only to leave us unsatisfied after the event happens, no matter how perfect it seemed at the time? This is true with everything from drugs and sex to pay raises and vacations. It’s the promise of pleasure that we are lured by; pleasure itself is fleeting. We come down with a cold on the plane to paradise. We get a sad phone call from a family member that dashes plans for a romantic evening. Our teenage daughter puts a dent in the new car and it’s no longer perfect. We feel excited about what we purchased during a shopping spree, only to find the thrill gone after only a week. Moments of true pleasure come to us when we aren’t looking for them. They are gifts uncalled for, moments that transcend our planning, moments that transcend even our perception of pleasure.
The search for power in our lives is parallel to our search for pleasure. It is “out there.” Power over our employees, our bosses, our customers, our shareholders, our kids, the waitress in a restaurant, or a clerk in a retail store is illusory at best and terribly destructive at worst. We think we might have power but we never know for sure. Even if we do, in the power game there’s always an opponent, the ground is always shifting. Much like Sisyphus, the Greek hero who was ordered by the gods to push a big rock uphill only to see it slip out of his hands in the last moment, our search for power becomes an endless—and joyless—undertaking.
The will to meaning comes from within. Only we ourselves can find it, control it, and fulfill it. It is meaning that sustains us throughout our lives, no matter how little or how much power and pleasure come our way. Most important of all, meaning sustains us through any pain and suffering that we must endure.
Every human being is a Leonardo da Vinci. The only problem is that he doesn’t know it. His parents didn’t know it, and they didn’t treat him like a Leonardo. Therefore he didn’t become like a Leonardo.

Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!
We don’t create meaning; we find it. And we can’t find it if we don’t look for it. Meaning comes to us in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it looms big in our lives; sometimes it slips in almost unobserved. Sometimes we miss a meaningful moment entirely until days, months, or even years go by and then suddenly something that once seemed insignificant becomes a pivotal, life-changing moment. Sometimes, too, it is the collective meaning of many moments that finally catches our mind’s eye; as if we weave together a living quilt from patches of moments that, by themselves, would have passed us by unnoticed. And, although we are not always aware of it, meaning, Frankl would say, is in every present moment. It goes without saying—wherever we go. All we have to do, in daily life and at work, is to wake up to meaning and take notice

I never thought that I will find what I was searching early this year [2012]. It is only the 17th day of this year and things are already looking interesting. In December of 2011, I set sail into a different dimension of my life. I was aware that I am in an interesting quest for the meaning of life in 2012. I’ve always wanted to know the meaning of everything including the small detail of “why things happen?”. For this year, life will be different. I’ve always known that there is a deeper meaning for everything that happens. If you are reading this journal, there’s a meaning/reason for it. Nothing happens without a purpose. No one will discover that purpose until you start looking for it. Okay, okay… I got you curious and nothing really implies here except that I am putting an anticipation to what I’m about to say or write. Last week, I’ve finished reading “Put Your Dream to the Test” and I was looking for a new book to read that is non-technical, non-software, non-Sharepoint, non-Microsoft and in my quest for the next book to read, I stumbled upon this book from a Russian Library – “Prisoners of our Thoughts Viktor Frankl’s Principles at Work” written by Alex Pattakos. I’m not going to go into details here of what the book is about. My job/purpose here is just to notify/relay to you that you really need to read this book and find out yourself what the “will to meaning” is.

Life is good when I am still alive and breathing. I did my usual 2.4 Mile Swim today for 80minutes non-stop and a 25yard subsurface swim with 1 breath. Fortunately, I feel that I am in the best of my health ever. People are worried about my digital silence for two weeks now. I totally disconnected to other people except to my immediate family and co-worker [I have to talk to them]. To those of you who are wondering why I am disconnecting myself from the world – the reason – I want to devote myself to finding more of myself without any distraction from the outside world. If you need me though, you can still call my cell or email me. I’ve also turned off my facebook due to the fact that there is nothing really in there that interests me. No, I am not depressed. I can honestly tell you that most likely I am the happiest person in the world. I do hope that you will not judge me of being so selfish and not letting people in to be part of my world. I am in a quest for more peace. I have peace inside me but I want more. Journey with me if you are curious and you will know what I am talking about.
Day557 Significance
I was waiting for something to happen in Day557 today. More that a year ago, my Stent#1 failed and I have to get #2 put in due to a failed treadmill stress test. Before Day557, I was still in full blown cycling training but I was in pain. My left arm showed a sign of severe pain during an easy climb. It was going on for a while and I finally talked to my cardiologist and told him that there is something wrong. I can bike for long hours [>2hours] but during the climb, I will suffer severely. No chest pain though but my left arm will go numb for a long period. Here’s my journal entry on 7/3/2010
