“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 AMP
The spirit realm is a very difficult subject to explain. Many scientists believe that man has a body and mind (physical and mental) only because there are evidence that they can tap or measure and get feedback. The Bible teaches us that man is not just physical and mental but a spirit being and so as God. It is hard to comprehend the messages from God throughout the Bible without establishing the concept that man has a spirit attribute.
God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. John 4:24
So what the word heart means In the Bible?

1. Examine your heart daily.
2. Purify/fine tune your intentions and purpose.
3. Repeat step 1 and step 2 until the process becomes normal and automatic.
When the heart is in good working order, the Spirit man becomes healthy and stable.
