Simplified Change; Blind Caveman – Dictum

"If anyone believes in me, rivers of living water will flow out from their heart. That is what the Scriptures say.”" John 7:38 ERV
“Change-make different; cause a transformation; Undergo a change; become different in essence; losing one’s or its original nature; Become different in some particular way”
I’ve previously dealt with three impossible scenarios in life with friends a while ago. One was drug addiction, the other was infidelity and the last one was mental illness. For some reason people asked me for advice in this department and most of the time, I have no answers. They don’t directly asked for my help but they confided with me and shared me their problems. Me too is puzzled by the mechanics of why these things happen.
What are the causes?
How do you fix it?
Is there a cure?
Will they change?
My short answer is always this - Christ.
Read CNN daily and study the people who are in trouble. There is a common denominator of all the bad stuff that people do. I’m not going to enumerate all the examples but there is a conclusive evidence between problems and core beliefs are related. People that stayed away from the Gospel tends to show a degree of difficulties in life.
Value Investing Lessons:
Yesterday, I posted my notes regarding the book I’ve recently read. “Getting Started In Value Investing”. If you ask me now what I’ve gained from reading the book, it was not about investing – it was about a millionaire named Andrew Carnegie who gained all the wealth he can – but in the end, gave it all way. He once said, “He who dies rich, dies disgraced”. His named was mentioned in the book and I just started researching and trying to get to know him and his legacy.
Last night, I was so curious of what motivated Carnegie and started reading his autobiography. His thinking is so different to ours. Is this the secret to gather wealth? Did he found a formula of success? In his prenuptial agreement, [April 22, 1887] he and his wife signed a legal document declaring their intention to devote the bulk of their wealth to the public good. He was 52 at that time – meaning that he just did not came up with his philanthropic ideas during his retirement, it was in his heart and mind long before he executed his generosity. All along it was in his heart and he even made sure that his partner in life understood his intentions.
I am on Chapter1 in his autobiography and I’m beginning to see a picture of where his generosity came from. More on this later.
I would like to invite everyone to consider his declaration below. I think it is worth evaluating.
Andrew Carnegie’s Dictum [dictum-an authoritative declaration]
1. To spend the first third of one’s life getting all the education one can.
2. To spend the next third making all the money one can.
3. To spend the last third giving it all away for worthwhile causes.
Blind Caveman’s Dictum [simplified]
1. 0-30 years, get all the knowledge to get wealth
2. 30-60 years, get all the wealth
3. 60-90 years, give all the wealth
I’ve read this before “The real purpose of money is for GIVING”.
I’m on Phase #2 right now and I’m in no way close to a million. But hey, who knows this thing works. Who is with me? ;- ]
