Principle: Don’t Judge Others

““Don’t judge others, and God will not judge you.” Matthew 7:1 ERV

Things we humans do to other human beings – we judge them silently and sometimes verbally and sometimes in our writings. We see something in our eyes and immediately without hesitation, our thoughts form a quick assessment of what it is or who they are. Without careful considerations, these thoughts are imprinted deep inside us and then we make hurried conclusions of who they are and what they do and then we say … next time I will or will not ……..

I was trying to make a “do list” instead of “don’t” but I think using the “do not” delivers the essence of the passage more clearly.

Don’t estimate others
Don’t evaluate others
Don’t gauge others
Don’t guess others
Don’t pass judgment on others
Don’t mind read others
Don’t label others
Don’t appraise others
Don’t assess others
Don’t place attributes on others
Don’t criticize others
Don’t disqualify others
Don’t examine others
Don’t try to figure out others
Don’t guesstimate others
Don’t measure others
Don’t rank others
Don’t rate others
Don’t underestimate others
Don’t overestimate others

Exceptions: if you are trying to “honestly help” them, one might assess (not judge) the other person so that you can identify the pathway to repair his or her problem through gentle advice and counseling.
