Faith=Knowing+Experience; Day320

Eph 3:17  May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love,
Eph 3:18  That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];
Eph 3:19  [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!

I need your beacon.
DEFINITION: Beacon-flashing light for ships: a lighthouse or signaling buoy that produces a flashing light to warn or guide ships; radio transmitter producing navigation signal: a radio transmitter that continuously broadcasts a signal that aircraft use for guidance.

One of the reason that I am keeping a journal and placed it online is for my family and friends to know my status (my well being and not “look at me”).  Remember, I am a cardiac patient and a lot of people are worried about me.  By writing something here, my words become a flashing light that my body and mind are still functioning well.  It is like a tiny LED light telling the world that I am recovering well and my mental status is just normal.  It makes other people aware of what I am up to, what I am thinking and what are my current projects. I know that not all of you are capable of doing this type of motion in life but bear with me, it’s there for a reason and some of you are listening.  If you don’t like it, just don’t read.  Sometimes I question myself if what I am doing is TMI (too much information).  Sometimes it is but sometimes I requested to share something to the world and I have to obey.

My beacon is consistent but I’ve noticed that some of my friends are not.  There were times that I am reconnected to a good old friend.  There are excitements in the first few days and all of a sudden, SILENCE.  This occurrence is cyclical and always visible to some of you.  You say hello sometimes and then another SILENCE for a few months then reconnect again. I am OK with that but for people that I am helping with or assisting in their life struggle, I need your beacon, I need your flashing light to signal me that you are doing fine. Tell me about the progress of your relationship, tell me the progress of your job search, tell me the progress of your health, tell me the progress of your faith, tell me the progress of your kids, tell me the progress of your exercise program.  Even a simple message of “I’m still here” is fine.  I just needed to know that you are still there and you don’t need to write me a novel about your status – one liner is fine.  I’ve been slowly adopting the LEAN Pull System in my life and I will not respond to the next item until there is a need for it. LEAN Push and Pull System . So please, if I was in some form helping you or talking to you, or writing/exchanging email with you regarding something, I need your beacon.  Say something, comment on something or maybe just text me that you are fine.

Daily beacon with regards to our faith is how we grow in our faith.  How can God know our heart if we don’t signal Him of what we do in real life.  God needs our beacon to gauge us of where we are in our walk with Him.  I know He is watching us but a constant communication with Him really build a stronger faith.  Faith is establishing a relationship and it is a day to day relationship.  If you try to skip a day, there is a possibility of slipping.

Some of you are suffering more than the rest of us.  My only encouragement is don’t give up.  Stay in our faith.  If you give up the faith, I don’t really know what else works.  Cry if you must but always pray. Our daily struggles strengthen us, motivates us and teaches us.  It is there for reason …. it is just a matter of finding the reason and sometimes it does not have an explanation at all.  If you really have to make a very difficult decision, please let me know and we will decide things “The Bible Way” and in that we can never go wrong.

What went well?

1. Poweredge 2850-completed all the work and gave back to the client in Austin.  Will do the remote testing later. Configured Raid1, installed W2003, installed Windows Media Services, turned on Remote desktop.

What didn’t go so well?
1. Food crime – ate a cheesecake yesterday, (several times in the afternoon).  I need to delete this craving when kids are having it.  I failed my cardiac diet.

Out of Darkness; Day319; Daughter @17

Psa 107:14  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke apart the bonds that held them.
Act 2:1  AND WHEN the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place,
Act 2:2  When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.
Act 2:3  And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them.
Act 2:4  And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].

Out of Darkness:
A big question comes to mind – What is darkness? How do you get out of the darkness?
Gal 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21  Envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

These are darkness:
Adultery – extramarital sex: voluntary sexual relations between a married person and somebody other than his or her spouse
Fornication – consenting sex involving somebody unmarried: sexual intercourse between two consenting adults who are not married to each other
Uncleanness – unchaste: sinful, especially involving or guilty of committing a sexual sin
Lasciviousness – lewd: showing a desire for, or unseemly interest in, sex
Idolatry – Image worship, watching undesirable images/videos
Sorcery – Practicing magic or witchcraft
Enmity – Hatred, hostility: the extreme ill will or hatred that exists between enemies
Strife – Quarrel, bitter conflict or rivalry: bitter and sometimes violent conflict, struggle, or rivalry
Jealousy – Possessively watchful of something
Anger – Strong feelings of grievance and displeasure
Selfishness – looking after own desires: concerned with your own interests, needs, and wishes while ignoring those of others
Division – disagreement: a disagreement or strong difference of opinion, especially when this leads to a split in a group
Heresy – unorthodox opinion: an opinion or belief that does not coincide with established or traditional theory, especially in philosophy, science, or politics
Envy – feeling bitter and unhappy because of another’s advantages, possessions, or luck
Drunkenness – intoxicated: overly excited by or as if by having consumed too much alcohol
Carousing – drink and become noisy: to drink and become noisy, especially in a group

How do you get out of the darkness?
I don’t claim to be totally 100% out of darkness in my life.  I am just like you and I am tempted just like you.  Until the time of our departure, we will experience some type of darkness in our life.  On the big ones above, those are ‘uncheck’ in my life already but it does not mean that I will not fall into temptations, we all are and that is why being a Christian is a daily walk.  We have to do it daily, renew our vows daily, renew our faith daily and walk faithfully daily.  For those who don’t me personally and haven’t peek in my past, don’t ask but I’ve been there and done that (not so bad though) and the bad thing is a few people knows about it.  I’ve hurt people (emotionally, not physically), I’ve crossed the line made by my parents, I’ve disobeyed/violated some rules before and I used to drink and smoke and party (boy’s only).  I don’t do those things anymore. I don’t even go to a party anymore.  I kept myself separated from those temptations because I’ve been reborn into a new ME.  Believe me, cleansing my lifestyle took a long time.  I always wanted to clean myself up physically, mentally and spiritually but the efforts were just wasted. I had so many resolutions that never made it into the next week.  I’ve tried mind control, self control, meditation, physical discipline and Aikido etc, never work.  Even having a beautiful girlfriend (now my wife) did not work.  Each of us has our own struggles, we noticed it every time we get up in the morning.  Those craving of something, those ill feeling, those anger, those jealousy and envy, depression, sadness, uncertainty …. how we wish it will be replaced with PEACE.  I don’t have a magic wand to get rid of all that but I know a way to get into a peaceful state.

I am at peace now. Nothing bothers me anymore. Not because I survived many near death incidents … but because I believed in something.  Keep searching, keep looking and one day you will be set free from your darkness.  There is a cure out there and it is freely given to us. I never heard of Acts 2:4 before but after I went through the infilling of the Holy Spirit, my whole life changed.  Please read this article – The Baptism of the Holy Spirit for more information.  It has 13 pages but I want you to known that this thing exists.  A true change in our life will happen only after the Holy Spirits dwells in us.

Today is the 17th birthday of my daughter. Nothing fancy. All four of us attended the Sunday service at Celebration Church.  Normally, it is just me and cc. The message was “Moving Forward on your Giving”  I did not realize how hard it is for us to give – not necessarily money but our life, our dedication, our trust, our attention, our time, our love, our devotion, our faithfulness, our honesty, our ears to listen to others.  I do hope that one day by my example, people will freely give.

True God; Day318

Joh 17:11  And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
Joh 17:11  And [now] I am no more in the world, but these are [still] in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, keep in Your Name [in the knowledge of Yourself] those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We [are one].
John 17-Full Chapter

True God
Yesterday, I was asked by somebody why he was dreaming dreams (weird dreams) and I replied that I will email him my explanation later this weekend.  When I got up this morning (0530am), I looked at my daily devotional calendar and today’s study is the 17th Chapter of John.  So I read the full chapter and there it is – the answer to his question, John 17:3, True God. This is not coincidence. Someone higher up was orchestrating two lives. One asked the question and the other provides the answer. Awesome God.  There is only one true God and I can’t explain it well at this moment because I am pressed for time.  His story started at Genesis, then the prophets foretold his coming and it happened in the New Testament in the person of Jesus Christ and then during His death, He said He will send His Holy Spirit to us.  Long story short – God—>Jesus—> Holy Spirit . It is the Holy Spirit that will be the one touching our lives as He did by revealing himself through questions like this or dreams that we dream or people that we met.  He touched our hearts even now as you are reading this journal.  He is speaking to you.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

There is only one true God.

Times of Trouble; Day317; Fort Hood Tragedy

Psa 9:9  The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
Psa 9:10  And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Times of Trouble:
Perfect timing for the word study today- it comes synonymous to the tragic incident in Fort Hood Texas. I was stationed in Killeen, Texas for approximately 3 years and when I heard on the radio about the shooting, it hits home right away.  I know almost every corner of the Army base.  Killeen was our home for a while when my daughter Brittney was still 2 years old.  I really have so many memories and good times and bad times from that small town.  Being a soldier is not as simple as it might look as displayed on TV or news coverage or any publicity stunt produced by the department of defense.  It might look really cool when guys are jumping out from the airplane or rappelling down from a low flying helicopter or having a rucksack and an M16 on the shoulder or driving an M1A1 Abrams tank or running around early in the morning for daily physical training.  The really hard part of being a soldier is not the physical aspect of it but instead on the psychological and emotional well being.  Physical toughness can be acquired immediately after boot camp but mental toughness of being a soldier takes some time to develop especially when you have a family. Soldiers are not well compensated also and there is always a financial hardship in a soldier’s life. Other things to consider is the stress level during the deployment.  I was fortunate when I was there in Ft Hood because I was assigned to the III Corps Headquarters Group of which most of our duties was just to support the high military ranking officers for their daily needs. ie. transportation, logistics, maintenance etc.  The rest of the group in Ft Hood are either member of the 1st Cavalry division and 4th Infantry Division. Those guys in that unit always has something unusual on their plate and they are always on the move, always training and always deploying.  On the other side of being in the military is the family.  If you are in the military, your spouse becomes a member of the family also.  I can still remember how my family was unable to rest and relax during the weekend because of unpredictable training exercise that lasts for at least 2 weeks at a time (being away from home is a norm).  I have to be away for 2 weeks and Britta has to find a baby sitter to take care of Brittney while she goes to work.  Civilian life is too easy (I think). Now, I normally gets a 3-day weekend and not even have to worry of any deployment or being temporarily assigned to go somewhere.  Being deployed is the hardest part of a soldier’s life especially when you have a wife and a child.  When in combat, there is always somebody beside you and soldiers tend to bond to each other when placed in difficult situations.  But place a soldier away from his family, that soldier will cry and break down.  I’ve seen and heard it so many times and even experienced it myself.  In September of 1992, I was in New York after the boot camp and had my orders to be deployed to South Korea for 1 year hardship tour (no family), while going back to New York from Fort Knox, Kentucky, my emotions/morale was fine but during the time when I have to say goodbye to Britta (departure from JFK to Korea), I cried so much and I question God why did He allowed me to be separated from her again.  The emotion is really hard to describe.  At that time, she was 7 month pregnant of Brittney.  To me, going away like that was the hardest I’ve ever experienced while I was in the military.  I’ve survived difficult situations, slept wet in a sleeping bag, walked miles and miles for several days and been deprived from any comforts for weeks but the hardest part of being a soldier is being separated from his family.  That is why most soldiers I know don’t really have a true smile in their face.  Other stress factor I’ve learned is infidelity in the military.  Most of my friends had marital problems and when they come home from deployment and then learned that the spouse is doing something else, sometimes they snapped.  It is really hard to detect an emotionally troubled soldier.  We are trained to maintain our composure, we are trained to ignore outside factors and focus on the mission.  Hardly I’ve ever heard a comrade tells me his personal problems.  People in the military, they are just emotionless individuals but when put at the end of the rope, they sometimes just do crazy things.  I was thankful I was already a Christian believer when I joined. I had the advantage of faith and whenever I have troubles I just got to a secret place and pray.  The things that happened yesterday was a tragedy and I don’t think that those are preventable.  It happens all the time because we live in reality and we experience problems day to day and we always react in ways sometimes unexplainable.  The person pulling the trigger was in trouble, he has problems and made a mistake of choosing violence over resolving his problems peacefully.  If only he knows that there is a “place of refuge”.

Below is a the Soldier’s Creed that every US Military knows. I carried this card all the time while I was still in the service to remind me of my duties.  Read it, it is worded elegantly and if taken seriously,  you will never hear/seen a news like that – a soldier out of control and the sad part, he was an officer.

The Soldier’s Creed

I am an American Soldier.
I am a Warrior and a member of a team.  I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.  I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.
I am an expert and I am a professional.
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.
I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
I am an American Soldier.

To all good soldier’s out there, be encourage and let this tragic incident be a lesson learned.  You have a job do.  Be safe and adhere to what you signed up for.

Done Deal; Day316

Rev 21:6  And He [further] said to me, It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I [Myself] will give water without price from the fountain (springs) of the water of Life. [Isa. 55:1.]
Revelation 21

Done Deal:
Have you ever started a huge project that requires a lot of effort and resources?  Have you ever discarded a project because you thought that you were not going anywhere and you felt that you were just wasting your time.  Sometimes I feel this way when I am in the middle of a big project that are stagnant.  Sometimes I hope that if only I can see the outcome before I even start step 1. How I wish God will show me the ending so that when I experience a setback, I can just convince myself that the story will still end beautifully…. but wait… didn’t Revelation promised us a “done deal” ending?

Lately, I’ve met new friends who [out of nowhere] just showed up in my life.  Or maybe we know each other before and we just began to reconnect.  There is always a beginning and I promise you that when you connect/reconnect with me, there is a higher purpose and there will be a great ending.  I’ve met a few good friends in my life and I’ve noticed that these friends just come and go.  Sometimes we tackle a marriage problem, sometimes we solve a technical problem, sometimes we troubleshoot a financial problem, sometimes we brainstorm a psychological problem and sometimes we try to solve a problem that we don’t even know it existed.  A few of you that knows me know what I’m talking about.  Yes, we see a difficult problem in front us and how I wish I can just tell you that the ending is fabulous. How I wish I can boldly say that in the middle of your journey, you will find what you are looking for. How I wish that I can tell you that you will find a job in one corner of the world.  How I wish I can tell you that your marriage will be fine even if you argue everyday.  How I wish I can tell you that the life storm that you are experiencing will stop soon.  How I wish I can tell you that your suffering will come to an end soon.  Honestly, I can’t tell you that.

But I want to tell you that there is a promise in the Bible that says “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Rev 21:4” Our life is a done deal.

Interesting Dream:
There are dreams that I pay attention and this is one of them.  I saw the beginning, I saw how it all started, I know what happened in the past but the middle and the ending part is still a mystery.  With this dream, it reveals something that will happen in the future. I hope that one day I will see the “homecoming” come to reality.  It feels like God started something great, left out the middle part but then later hinted that the ending is great.

1. I tested the Log Parser script that I put together the other day and I was able to query a remote client in just one click.  I was able to merged the two event log files (System/Application).  Although, this was just a test, it placed a great value of helping me troubleshoot a software crash happening at work.

2. Last week, our team [at work] made 2 huge mistakes that has a potential loss of product.  Coming back to work was a mixed feeling.  I was expecting a nasty gram from the boss of how we missed to mistake proof our procedures.  Long story short, there was not much damage to the product.  Lesson learned-pay attention on what you are doing and enforce “quality in every step”.  Of course the team now knows how to play the game perfectly.

Boss is Coming; Day315

1Th 4:16  For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud cry of summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God. And those who have departed this life in Christ will rise first.
1 Thessalonians – Chapter 4

Many of us act differently when the boss is not around.  We do crazy things or we slack off or we tend to be lazy when no one is watching us.  Honestly, my motivation of my actions as a Christian is not based on the reward that I will receive or the pat in the back (that I will get later) telling me that I am a good and faithful servant.  My motivation is just plain sharing of what I know and what I personally experienced, what helped me in my struggles and what guide me when I am lost.  Yes, the boss is coming but we know that if we are obedient of His commandments and we execute His orders then we don’t need to worry about His return.

So what are we suppose to do before the boss comes back

I used to wake up depressed, sad, tired, no motivation, lost and always wondering what to do next or not what to do.  I read books (self help books) to find the truth of how to really satisfy my longings (now I read the Bible every morning, just a few verses to feed the soul).  I’ve tried meditation and it works for a while.  I’ve tried Aikido and it was fulfilling for some time but it never sinks in towards the soul satisfaction.  Then later, I discovered cycling and it was great for a while until I almost died when a car struck me from behind.  I love cycling most because it gives me freedom to go anywhere plus I can just cruise when I am tired.  My other favorite escapade was a solitude of 1 hour in Merida pantalan (pier) and just stare the sun as it goes up and listen to the waves splashing in the background (Merida-wait for me.. I’ll be there one day).  Then later I discovered swimming and began to love it.  There is something in the water that keeps me at peace and I can mostly enjoy the long distance swim and feel satisfied about life.  When I was still in the Army, it was the morning 3mile run that keeps me away from all the stress.  Then there was this longing of financial stability.  A few years back, me and my wife struggles in our finances and honestly we have to really work hard to get something or buy something and then we argue.  I remember the days when my term in Army was almost at the end and I have to transition to civilian life.  There were so many questions in my mind.  Where is the job? Where shall I start looking?  Where to raise our kids?  I still have a few questions in life that are left unanswered but I am not worried about it anymore.  I still have my day to day struggles but those don’t bother me anymore.

I know that I am not alone in my situation.  I’ve read it in FB all the time. People are not satisfied.  People are longing for something. People are searching. People are seeking something.  I am aware that people sometimes don’t really need to hear any advice or counsel. I don’t have a degree in psychology and I never went to a seminary or Bible college and all I have is a real life experience daily and I want to share this to all my friends (known and unknown) that there is a way to satisfy our soul and it is not in the physical realm (the things I mentioned above).  There is a spirit realm, we don’t see it but if you observe your surroundings, find time to feel it and open your spiritual eyes … then you will begin to see and experience it.

Yesterday, while I was driving with Brent for his tennis practice, we saw an accident that was about to happen.  The light was yellow and there were 2 cars trying to beat the yellow light (50mph) and then the oncoming traffic was also trying to beat the yellow light but the problem was he was turning left.  I slowed down because I saw the caution light (me sometimes) and then we heard a very loud braking noise (tire squeak) but fortunately we did not hear a loud bang.  To me, something happened in the spirit realm in that particular moment (a spiritual intervention).  I’ve been in so many similar situations like that and somehow, there is always that protection over me.  They said that there are angels out there protecting us. Last night, I am 100% sure they were there to protect us.

Step1 in Soul Satisfaction:
1. Start a personal relationship to God through Christ. Everything you do, just talk to Him.  Kinda’ funny at first but you will get used to it.  Use Him to guide you in your daily life, at work, relationship, job search etc.

What went well?

It’s been a week now since I launch my Log Parser study.  I am learning slowly but the results are very promising.  I have not fully comprehend the mechanism of the tool but the potential is there.  Imagine troubleshooting a computer problem by just performing a remote query from one console and it gives you all the details in one tabulated result.  I’ve put together some of the examples that I’ve tested and it really works.  Imagine a search engine on any log files or any event logs from different client pc.  More on this later but here’s the SQL Queries that I am testing.

2. I went out cycling yesterday for a planned 30mile bike ride.  At mile 20, my legs were still fresh and decided to go for the 45Mile loop of the Outlaw100 route.  Well, I did not bring enough food with me and suffered a loss of energy (bonked-when you ran out of gas, no more leg power) near the end of the 52 mile course.

More Walk-Less Talk; Day313

1Jo 1:7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1Jo 1:7  But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations].

More Walk and Less Talk
I never like publicity, I never like exposing myself to the world, I never like voicing my opinion and giving my 2 cents to any topic. I like to be the silent guy in the corner that is just listening. At work, I will only speak when there is a good reason for me to open my mouth (most of my close friends knows).  In short I am really trying hard to live as low as I can so that people will not get annoyed by what I talk about.  But as you read this journal, the opposite is happening.  It seems like I am always talking about my faith, The Word and The Walk.  Believe me, I don’t like to write anything on this journal, to me it is all “just words” and I don’t even know if people are getting blessed or encouraged by it’s message.  But then once in a while, out of nowhere, a stranger will email me or make a comment that he/she was blessed by what I wrote one day.  Many times I am trying to shutdown my way journaling and just go back to my secret journal and let people read it when I am dead but then what purpose will it serve if the things I write is not read in real time.

Back to the subject, “More walk but less talk”, I feel that the message is very simple, walk with God 24/7.  In all our actions, walk with Him.  I know that this is hard because we are still living in this worldly environment and there are always temptations around us.  I am always tempted but then when I am walking with Him, I will realize right away that I need to get back into the right track.  Once you walked with Him closely, then you have something to report about and then you can talk. So on the same note, walk with the Light, then later talk about the Light.

Side note: Today’s Word seems like paralleled to what LEAN called “Walking the Gemba”

0. Moving Forward-The Church (my notes)

The Church was birthed out of His death. (Christ’s death)
The Church was placed into our hands. (Our responsibility)
The Church is called to face the world. (Our ministry)
The Church is satan’s enemy.( People[initially] hates Christ, the Church and Christians, they don’t want to hear anything about the Good news)
The Church contains God’s Power
Who/What is the Church? You and me. Not the building, not the place of worship nor the organized religion. It’s the people that truly believed in Him. It is us.

Bountiful Eye; Day312

Pro 22:9  He who has a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor. [II Cor. 9:6-10.]
Matthew Henry’s Commentary
Here is, 1. The description of a charitable man; he has a bountiful eye, opposed to the evil eye (Pro_23:6) and the same with the single eye (Mat_6:22), – an eye that seeks out objects of charity, besides those that offer themselves, – an eye that, upon the sight of one in want and misery, affects the heart with compassion, – an eye that with the alms gives a pleasant look, which makes the alms doubly acceptable. He has also a liberal hand: He gives of his bread to those that need – his bread, the bread appointed for his own eating. He will rather abridge himself than see the poor perish for want; yet he does not give all his bread, but of his bread; the poor shall have their share with his own family. 2. The blessedness of such a man. The loins of the poor will bless them, all about him will speak well of him, and God himself will bless him, in answer to many a good prayer put up for him, and he shall be blessed.

Miracle of the Blind – John 9
image

We are the miracle! Don’t wait for one.
I was watching the videos of Nick-Life Without Limbs yesterday (just read my yesterday’s post) and he mentioned about how his eyes was opened regarding his being born without arms and legs and he was praying for a miracle.  He also wrestled to the idea that God was unfair and that he should have his legs and arms just like the rest of us.  In his interview, he was asked when did you realize that you needed to trust God.  His answer, “when I read the miracle of the blind”.  He elaborated that when he read the passage “but the works of God should be made manifest in him”, his life became the miracle and not his being without arms and legs.  When you looked at now of the thing he accomplished for the Kingdom, it is beyond comprehension that a crippled man he is can reach out to millions of people.

“but that the works of God should be made manifest” – that implies to all of us. I wrestled to God so many times about calamities, hurricane Katrina, the tsunami in Thailand, my own problems, why people had to suffer, why people had to cry, why the rest are just as happy as they can be, why cancer, divorce, infidelity. Then I asked why there is no more miracle like the blind man able to see or the crippled able to walk nowadays.  Then He whispers to my heart, what about the doctors I sent or what about the medicine I let people invent or what about the different surgery procedure that I let man discover.  I was just amazed.

I went swimming yesterday and I saw a wheelchair right above lane2. I normally just get in the water when I go to the pool and never look at anybody when they are swimming.  But today, I sat there at lane3 (middle lane) and just watched a man swimming with no legs.  I think he was a Vietnam veteran who lost his leg during the war ( I did not asked him though). Two days ago I was just watching “Life Without Limbs videos” and yesterday I had the privilege to witness in my own eyes how a man without legs perform the same thing that I do.  I am more challenged now.  I am not waiting for a miracle anymore, I am the miracle. We are the miracle – our life is the miracle.

What about you?

Must Love A Brother; Day307

1Jo 2:10  Whoever loves his brother [believer] abides (lives) in the Light, and in It or in him there is no occasion for stumbling or cause for error or sin.

We do have people in our list that are against us.  I think that is human nature.  The root cause “spirit of jealousy”.  People just sometimes go against us for no good reasons other than they are jealous of what we do or what we say or what we write or what we create or what we have or what we’ve been to.  A few months ago, a friend of mine told me that a person was poking at him regarding just about anything and he have to change strategies on this guy.  He almost lost his patience but was able to rebalance himself (biblical way).  He started showing him love, he started saying “good morning” to him and before he went home for the day, he started going to him and tell him “Hey, I’m going home… I’ll see you tomorrow”.  He said, the results were amazing.  If you really want to know if you are a true Christian believer, examine yourself and your relationship to a brother or a sister.  Are you full of hate or are you filled with love. Is there a person that you dislike?  Is there a person that you hate? Is there a person that you have not forgiven?  Bottom line, we cannot confess that we love God and in our little corner hates one person.

Side Note: There is one person that I am trying to reach that I think I offended (you know who you are), please find me because I cannot find you or can’t reach you safely.  If you are a friend to this person, please relay my message.  I cannot die yet until I hear from you.

1. Life without limbs. I’ve watched and learned a few things about Nick Vujicic who was born without arms and legs.  His story is very inspiring and made me feel content, complete and satisfied with what I have.  I’ve heard so many great stories and listened to good preachers and I’ve read so a few inspirational books but there’s no better inspiration than watching him grow up with his struggles in life and then found him being transformed into being a servant of God.  I’ve organized the links below for simplicity.  Please find time to watch.

2. Grown up son.  On our way home after I picked up my son from school, I had this conversation with Brent in the car; “Dad, what do you think will happen if you put strangers in the middle of the jungle, will they bond together? or will they fight?” I know the answer – strangers will bond together regardless (initially).  I get this type of conversation with my son all the time now.  Sometimes we sit down in the living room just talking just about anything.  He is now growing up and fast. Last year, Ridgeview Middle School administered the Stanford Achievement Test . He was only at the 7th grade last year (12 years old) but all his results was rated PHS (post high school).  I am not into good grades.  I don’t push my kids to get good grades, I only tell them “Stick to your mission at hand” and their mission is to get an education and find a job one day.  His result indicates that he has special skills and I need to plan for it in terms of satisfying his natural ability when it comes to education. One thing I noticed though, he does not show any great efforts in studying.  There are times I watched him just watch tv or play video games when he has homework to do and he always does his school work late at night or close to sleeping time … weird.  I am just curious of what will happen if he mixes LEAN Thinking on his current working habits.  I’ll find ways to influence him one day.

3. Heart Attack Plan: Received a literature in the mail Heart Attack Plan, I just want to share because when it was my time, I did not call 911, I let my wife drove me to the hospital.  Step 0 is call 911 at all cost because when they take you to the hospital, they can administer treatment while in route to the ER.  Also, people need to be educated about the symptoms of a heart attack.  One friend of mine did something foolish, he googled “chest pains” and diagnosed himself.  After 10 minutes, he called 911 because he had all the symptoms.  The story ends with a heart bypass, he was 40.  I think, people need to be aware that heart disease ranks No.1 killer in the US, (someone told me that)

4. Cycling in the rain:  It was fun until I got home and my toes and fingers did not have any blood flow, I have to stay in the shower for 10 minutes to restore hand and toes functionality.  I respect the weather but there is something in me that just love the unknown. I wanted to feel how a 58 degreesF weather and rain feels like and the wind was 15 miles per hour.  I learned my lesson – stay indoors when the weather is bad.  Overall, it was a great 22 miles ride (planned for 30).  Learned so many survival technique along the way ie. don’t over dress when it is raining, I wore my winter clothes underneath my rain jacket, I was soaking wet at the end of the ride, not with rain but sweat.  I’ve learned to watch out for manholes, they are traps.  I learned to love the rain even though it soaks me, it keeps my heart rate down due to less effort.  So why ride in the rain? Because no one rides in the rain.

5. Computer System Health Monitoring:  I want to build my own computer system health monitoring system using the Sysinternals tools only.  I know that there are packages out there that does the same thing but I wanted a simple approach and I also want to learn how to integrate this data into SQL2005 database and then provide a frontend web user interface using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express (all free software).  The motivation is learning and not necessarily functionality but if I get both, then it will be a blessing.  Here’s the MindMap for the design if you want to know how I keep tab on the project. There are two command line utilities that I will be using:
a. psinfo – get computer information from the command line
b. psloglist – dumps the NT Event Log to a text file

As of right now, I don’t have a clear path on how to automate the uploading of these two files to the SQL2005 database. I can use the bcp utility or DTS.  But before I can do that, I need to join the file into 1 large file with one command.

6. PsInfo – Dump system information into a text file
Command – psinfo –h –s –d >systeminfo.txt

7. PsLogList – Dumps the OS event log to a text file
Command – psloglist –s >eventlogdump.txt

Steady State Peace; Day306

Pro 17:27  He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding has a cool spirit. [James 1:19.]
Pro 17:28  Even a fool when he holds his peace is considered wise; when he closes his lips he is esteemed a man of understanding.

Steady State Peace – short version, talk less and listen more.  Don’t react too much.  Understand first, then do something.

LOOKING BACK – YESTERDAY
What went well?

1. Spent time with cc at Celebration
2. Spent time with Brent just talking about his life etc. He wants to get back to Ms. Tongay (piano tutor) and continue tennis (sigh). He said he shined at his computer typing class. He scored 85 words per minute on the typing test.  This boy can type fast.  I saw him set a record of 116wpm a few weeks ago.
3. Started XP Event Log Database project
4. 15Mle cycling around Old Settlers-AW Grimes loop
5. Found an application that can transplant a Windows OS Bootable CD to flash drive – WinToFlash
6. BP now back to normal numbers after being at 150’s due to residual pickle juice in the system
7. Vacuum/mop the whole house in under 30 minutes
8. Played ping-pong with Brent on the Wii, motion sensors on the remote is not realistic, lost so many times due to playing it real
9. Created my own MindMap Visio template, I would like to use it for work because we don’t have access to MindOMO inside the fab

What didn’t go so well?
1. CC asking to go to a movie on a Sunday night (school day – next day), I said NO
2. CC unable to do parallel parking, argued about what she can do when I told her to drive backwards.  Teenage/stubborn kids.  I have to lecture/counsel her…. “when I was your age…”  I am writing a book: “How to Manage a Teenage Daughter Graciously” ;-()
3. Pickup truck shopping at Toyota, cc did not like the Tacoma Crew Cab, have to continue researching my new toy (that she can borrow)
4. Me and Brent setup the ping-pong table in 3 different places in the house – a failure, no space.  We put it back underneath the bed (incubate for now)

What would you do differently next time?
1. None

Conclusion:
1. Discipline works and contagious.  Seen my kids slowly adapting to a more organized approach of life.  Need new strategies in managing my daughter’s unconventional way of testing my patience.

Prosperity and Welfare; Day300

Psa 112:1  PRAISE THE Lord! (Hallelujah!) Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who fears (reveres and worships) the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. [Deut. 10:12.]
Psa 112:2  His [spiritual] offspring shall be mighty upon earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Psa 112:3  Prosperity and welfare are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.
Psalm 112 Full Chapter

I’ve met new friends lately in a special way and I don’t consider that the crossing of our path is an accident or coincidence.  In some grandeur scheme above our comprehension our path crossed somehow with a hidden plan that you and I just don’t know yet.  This happened to me several times and I am now very sensitive in terms of meeting and knowing new friends.  Many times in the past I’ve experienced simple acquaintances turns into a lasting friendship.  Some of my friendship starts with a simple short talk/chit chat and later on become a grown tree of a healthy network of friends. I value any friendship and if our path crossed, there must be a good reason why.  Maybe by now you are wondering about the purpose of our friendship.  I don’t know yet but as we know each other through the years, let us look forward each day on how to cultivate this friendship in a positive way.

I am now older and wiser and my life were filled with good and bad experiences, met a lot of challenges along the way and had been to difficult situations and I wish I’ve known God at a personal level during the early part of my journey in life.  So before we continue our friendship, I would like you (new friends/old friends) to at least take a look at something  that changed my life (for the better) – a personal relationship to God through Christ.  Many of you reading this might be in the mid life and had been enjoying the prosperity of life – having a stable job, good health, kids at school, having a healthy married life, having a well established financial capacity, having a stable mind to face any type of life challenges and so you might think that you don’t really require any more spiritual help.  That’s fine if you think that way but I would like to invite you to take a look at something that might give you a boost in life – Knowing God Personally . Once faith is established in your heart, there are so many surprises that comes with it.  Imagine receiving an insight of every critical decision you make, open doors, job leads, new clients, wisdom, peace, knowledge – you name it, the relationship you established through Him comes with great surprises.  Take for example Psalm 112.3, Prosperity and welfare are in his house – that is a promise once we become a servant of God and a believer.  What more do we need?

After Action Review – 100 Miles Bike Ride

DATE: 20091017
DURATION: 7hours and 8 Minutes
WHO:
WHAT: 2009 Outlaw 100
WHERE: Old Settlers Park, Round Rock, Texas
HOW: By Bike
Miles Travelled: 110 Miles

What went well?
You’ve heard this before… A long journey starts with the first mile.  I personally don’t like to drive greater than 50 miles from home and can you imagine 100 miles of pedal power. People ask WHY and maybe you are wondering what is the reason why I am doing it every year.  A friend reminds me of the answer to this type of question – you have to experience it.   Endurance event requires so much from our body and mind.  There are so many reason why people do it and the most common reason is simple – “because I can”.  My motivation is “research” and most likely that is the reason why I end up in the hospital last year after swimming long distance in a 65 degrees pool.  I want to know what my body can do and cannot do.  I want to know where my limits are.  I want to know if I can push my body while I am also working on a regular job and helping the kids at school and love a wife at the same time without being stressed out.  My research work can be found at my Sharepoint site so feel free to take a peek of what is going on with my experiments.

Key points:
1. Able to finish the 100-mile course (+10 bonus miles)
2. Zero crash
3. Zero flat tire
4. Zero cramps
5. Zero stomach trouble
6. Zero chest pain
7. Zero irregular heartbeat
8. Average Heart Rate = 116 bpm
9. No of heartbeat during the ride =58,000 (30,000 at normal beat of 60 bpm)
10. Peak Heart Rate = 134 bpm
11. Total Calories = 5020 calories
12. Total Time on the road = 8 hours and 20 minutes (with rest stops)
13. Average RPM = 80 revolution per minute
14. Total RPM = 33,600 RPM (no. of pedal strokes)
15. No. of Clif bars consumed = 5
16. No. of Power Gel taken = 4
17. No. of pickle juice cups = 5 (nasty but effective for cramp prevention)
18. No. of Gatorade bottles consumed = 6
19. No. of Rest Stops taken = 8
20. New cycling friend = 1 (AS)

What didn’t go so well?
Being lost for ~10 miles, lost at least 45 minutes from the normal route.  To me this is a plus, more is better.  If we were not able to get back to the correct route, it could have been a disaster.  Unknowingly, being lost produces one friendship.

What would you do differently next time?
None

Conclusion:
I was satisfied with my overall performance considering I suffered a heart attack last year (Dec 22, 2008). Being able to test my heart capacity and capability will boost my confidence back to my aging body.  I am 43, young at heart and mind but when you encounter a devastating heart illness, the knowledge alone that I am able to get back to my normal routine is very encouraging.  I don’t trust my body anymore.  I am doing the best I can to help me avoid any medical problems but sometimes there are things that can happen to us that we don’t understand.  If you really look at my life 10 years from today, you will see how I took care of myself physically.  I don’t celebrate victories regarding physical accomplishments anymore, this event means nothing to me because last year, I participated the same event (October 18th, 2008) and in December, I stayed 3 days in ICU.  I am not hesitating to mention the word “heart attack” anywhere in my journal because I choose myself to become an ambassador for healthy heart awareness.  I am doing all these with only one purpose in mind – to create awareness of a healthy lifestyle.  I am trying to go through the motion of staying healthy and maybe one day, a few friends of mine will do the same.  Yes, staying fit is doable even if you have a full time job.  There are countless benefits of exercise and often times I heard excuses from friends that they don’t have time and they are so busy or they are too tired or I am not going to change because I am just so satisfied with who I am or I work night shift or I always come home late.  I don’t know about your “death readiness” – are you ready to go at any moment?  Will you ignore the things that you can do now that will help you in the future?  Me? I am in the bonus life already.  I live each day as if it is my last.  You haven’t been to the edge of dying yet.  Start something…do something.

To my loving, caring and adorable wife Britta, to Brittney and Brent, I hope that what I did yesterday delete all your worries about my health.  There were so many restrictions placed upon me after I was released from the hospital that Christmas of 2008 and I know that there were millions of worries running through your mind that week. May this event gain back the idea that I am well physically.  I don’t want you to worry too much about me.  In fact, I should be the one thinking about your health.  To my mother – Mom, I am perfectly fine, to my other mother in CA, yes, I am okay, to all my sisters who are so concerned about my health, I am in full recovery.  To all my my friends who really cares, thank you all for praying and thinking about me.

I do hope that one day I will receive a message telling me – “I am exercising now everyday”.

Tree Firmly Planted; Day298

Psa 1:1  BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.
Psa 1:2  But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. [Rom. 13:8-10; Gal. 3:1-29; II Tim. 3:16.]
Psa 1:3  And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]. [Jer. 17:7, 8.]

There is a personal problem that I am trying to solve and I have not told anyone about it yet.  Maybe one day someone can debug my complicated life and give me some insights on what to do.  I am not expecting anyone to look into it (now that I mention it here because I know my lifeline connection never fails me).  I won’t be needing any counsel because my Counselor is a better counselor that anyone else.  When a person gave his /her life to Christ and start living a life filled with obedience, the people around this person will become agitated, confused, angry, hostile sometimes and not because of what he/she feels but because the enemy (the devil) is mad about what is going on. I know for a fact that the devil is real.  They are around us waiting for us to make mistakes, waiting for us to fall, waiting for us to say a bad and negative comment and point us that we are not who we are-the new creation.  I live through this every minute in my life both work and home and I know that I have to be very careful in my walk so that I may not fall into hypocrisy.  I don’t claim myself to be so perfect, I am trying to be perfect because that is expected from every believer but I am nowhere near perfect. But I will tell you one thing though, I have PEACE inside me deeper than anyone can imagine.  The Word for today explains it all.
Some guidelines to follow:
1. Walk in the counsel of the God (not men) – meaning, don’t consult Wall Street if you want to prosper or don’t lookup ideas built by principles outside the Bible.  Lined it up with the Word and you will never fail or don’t make a critical decision without praying to God.
2. Stay in the pathway of Righteousness (at all times even when your friends and family disown you)
3. Meditate on His Word day and night (know–>believe—>then apply)

The end results-imagine a tree with auto drip of tiny water going to the roots, the tree is healthy and there will be fruits coming from that tree.
The key thing is prosperity, everything he does prosper.  Can you imagine that? Whatever endeavor you are undertaking, may it be a simple lowly business of yours or an impossible dream that you are contemplating or a small retirement project that you are planning for life or a future job that you’ve been looking/waiting.  I’ve seen a tiny bit of this and I am always have a “WOW” word when it happens.  There is one for you, search for it.

Place for Me; Day297; Outlaw 100 Bike Ride

Joh 14:2  In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places (homes). If it were not so, I would have told you; for I am going away to prepare a place for you.
John 14 Full Chapter

I will be riding the Outlaw 100 bike ride today.  I am planning to ride the 100-mile route. I’ve been back in training since Day20 on my cardiac rehab.  I am on Day 297 today since my heart attack (20081222) and to all my mothers out there (I have a few, 1 in CA-Elie) , don’t worry about me because I am always wearing a heart rate monitor and I have cell phone with me and plus there are sag wagons (cars that will pick me up in time of distress).  Last night before I went to bed, my 13 year old son Brent went to my bedroom and asked me, “Dad, do you think your heart is ready for this?”.  I sensed right away that he is worried about me about what I am going to do and how my heart will react to a long distance endurance ride; I just look at him straight and gave him a hug and told him to sleep beside me.  We ended up recapping our bonding time today at the tennis court.  So far, there are only two people in my life that was so thoughtful of me and I appreciate that.  A friend of mine in CA specifically talked to me about my physical capacity in general and it feels really good that someone out there is thinking.  The reason why I put my body in this situation has nothing to do with my ego.  No, I am not doing this to show off to the world and be proud of it.  The only reason why I am doing this is to prove to the world that it can be done… that one can have a full time time job, be a parent and still have time for training.  As my heart permits, I will be doing this type of activities the rest of my life.  I started this serious cycling program since 1999 and it has been a great help to me as a stress relief and an diversion in life.  People like to do other things in life aside from work and this is my way of doing it and I love doing it.   I am not sure of the outcome today because things have changed 297 days ago but I will try my best to be safe and know when to give up when my heart shows signs of trouble,  This is not the first time that I dive into unfamiliar activities. I remember in 2006 when I signed up for my first 5K swim race and I’ve trained only for 1 year before racing.  It was a journey into the unknown that makes the activity more interesting.  Yes, the journey into the unknown is mostly the fuel of our life.  When we don’t know what is out there, what waits us at the finish line, can we make it there? Will I make it to the next mile?  But one thing I know for sure, there is a place for me waiting somewhere… a place they call special.

I will be carrying my cell phone in my back pocket so if want to check on me, feel free to call/text me 512-786-4157 or you can just write in my FB wall and I will get alerted.  I don’t need encouragement or anything like that, but your conversation will surely help me get through the depression after Mile 50 and above.  Yes, depression sets in sometimes because our body gets tried and sometimes the doubt set in.  I’ve experienced this on almost every long distance ride but it is perfectly normal but once you reach the finish line, it feels like nothing else better.  It is 56 degrees F in Round Rock and that is cold in my book but if you look at the wind speed below, not even 10MPH all day which is really a perfect day for a long ride.

Time to execute the plans.

Inner Strength; Day295

Psa 138:3  In the day when I called, You answered me; and You strengthened me with strength (might and inflexibility to temptation) in my inner self.

So true.  He answered all my call but not just answered but strengthened me when I am so weak.  There are times in life that we needed someone who can uplift us and carry us through the storm.  I love the idea that whenever I need someone to comfort me and help me, He is always there without fail.  But how do I know that He is there? When you experience inner peace and inner strength, that is an indication that He answered your call.  Yes, there is no physical evidence that He is there but the fact alone that you experience a peace of mind is enough to say that God indeed responded to our call and with peace in our heart comes an enormous inner strength to carry us to the next destination.

Why Wait?; Day293

Isa 30:18  And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

Isa 30:18  And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]! [John 14:3, 27; II Cor. 12:9; Heb. 12:2; I John 3:16; Rev. 3:5.]

Why wait?  Because when we wait, we are blessed.  There are so many things that happened when we wait.  Everything is this world is in some type of a process.  Call it  a cooking process or an incubation process.  When we wait, something in the background is being done and most of the time when we don’t wait, the process is interrupted.  This interruption is the result of our impatience.  We want things done right away and then we get this half-baked product, the result are not as good as the desired finish product.  In real life, this half-bake product showed up us failures, uncertainties and undesirable effect which makes our lives more complicated than it used to be.  I’ve seen so many times that people tend to rush critical decision making.  Decision making should go through a series of steps and then on the last step, spend time incubating before making the final decision.

Waiting patiently produces a refined product.

How to Stop Worrying and Start Living

This is Dale Carnegie’s summary of his book, from 1948
Original Post:

Part One

Fundamental facts you should know about worry

  1. If you want to avoid worry, do what Sir William Osler did: Live in "day-tight compartments." Don't stew about the futures. Just live each day until bedtime.
  2. The next time Trouble--with a Capital T--backs you up in a corner, try the magic formula of Willis H. Carrier:
    1. Ask yourself, "What is the worst that can possibly happen if I can't solve my problem?
    2. Prepare yourself mentally to accept the worst--if necessary.
    3. Then calmly try to improve upon the worst--which you have already mentally agreed to accept.
  3. Remind yourself of the exorbitant price you can pay for worry in terms of your health. "Those who do not know how to fight worry die young."

Part Two

Basic techniques in analyzing worry

  1. Get the facts. Remember that Dean Hawkes of Columbia University said that "half the worry in the world is caused by people trying to make decisions before they have sufficient knowledge on which to base a decision."
  2. After carefully weighing all the facts, come to a decision.
  3. Once a decision is carefully reached, act! Get busy carrying out your decision--and dismiss all anxiety about the outcome.
  4. When you, or any of your associates, are tempted to worry about a problem, write out and answer the following questions:
    1. What is the problem?
    2. What is the cause of the problem?
    3. What are all possible solutions?
    4. What is the best solution?

Part Three

How to break the worry habit before it breaks you

  1. Crowd worry out of your mind by keeping busy. Plenty of action is one of the best therapies ever devised for curing "wibber gibbers."
  2. Don't fuss about trifles. Don't permit little things--the mere termites of life--to ruin your happines.
  3. Use the law of averages to outlaw your worries. Ask yourself: "What are the odds against this thing's happening at all?"
  4. Co-operate with the inevitable. If you know a circumstance is beyond your power to change or revise, say to yourself: "It is so; it cannot be otherwise."
  5. Put a "stop-less" order on your worries. Decide just how much anxiety a thing may be worth--and refuse to give it anymore.
  6. Let the past bury its dead. Don't saw sawdust.

Part Four

Seven ways to cultivate a mental attitude that will bring you peace and happiness

  1. Let's fill our minds with thoughts of peace, courage, health, and hope, for "our life is what our thoughts make it."
  2. Let's never try to get even with our enemies, because if we do we will hurt ourselves far more than we hurt them. Let's do as General Eisenhower does: let's never waste a minute thinking about people we don't like.
    1. Instead of worrying about ingratitude, let's expect it. Let's remember that Jesus healed ten lepers in one day--and only one thanked Him. Why should we expect more gratitude than Jesus got?
    2. Let's remember that the only way to find happiness is not to expect gratitude--but to give for the joy of giving.
    3. Let's remember that gratitude is a "cultivated" trait; so if we want our children to be grateful, we must train them to be grateful.
  3. Count your blessings--not your troubles!
  4. Let's not imitate others. Let's find ourselves and be ourselves, for "envy is ignorance" and "imitation is suicide."
  5. When fate hands us a lemon, let's try to make a lemonade.
  6. Let's forget our own unhappiness--by trying to create a little happiness for others. "When you are good to others, you are best to yourself."

Part Five

The perfect way to conquer worry

  1. Prayer

Part Six

How to keep from worrying about criticism

  1. Unjust criticism is often a disguised compliment. It often means that you have aroused jealousy and envy. Remember that no one ever kicks a dead dog.
  2. Do the very best you can; and then put up your old umbrella and keep the rain of criticism from running down the back of your neck.
  3. Let's keep a record of the fool things we have done and criticize ourselves. Since we can't hope to be perfect, let's do what E.H. Little did: let's ask for unbiased, helpful, constructive criticism.

Part Seven

Six ways to prevent fatigue and worry and keep your energy and spirits high

  1. Rest before you get tired.
  2. Learn to relax at your work.
  3. Learn to relax at home.
  4. Apply these four good workings habits:
    1. Clear your desk of all papers except those relating to the immediate problem at hand.
    2. Do things in the order of their importance.
    3. When you face a problem, solve it then and there if you have the facts to make a decision.
    4. Learn to organize, deputize, and supervise.
  5. To prevent worry and fatigue, put enthusiasm into your work.
  6. Remember, no one was ever killed by lack of sleep. It is worrying about insomnia that does the damage--not the insomnia.

When In Trouble …;Day292

Psa 50:15  Let your voice come up to me in the day of trouble; I will be your saviour, so that you may give glory to me.

When in trouble, what do you do?  This is a very hard question because it is so general and the scope is so wide especially if you ask this type of question that pertains to a lifetime mistake or a decision failure that cascades into several minor issues.  One thing leads to another and the more you face the trouble/problem, the deeper the hole you dug for yourself….  that you cannot get out or pull yourself out from the pit. Imagine yourself inside a deep dry well, there is no rope, there is no ladder, there is no way for you to get out from the situation, what will be your exit strategy? As I mentioned before, I am helping friends recover from difficult situations, job loss, relationship problems, divorce, financial problems, marital problems, teen problems, health problems, work related problems and I honestly provided them with some wisdom just to get started on the recovery process.  Sometimes, I brainstormed with them on what to do, what’s the next step, what are other options available.  However, there are times that I feel guilty of not really telling them one thing when trouble comes and that is Psalm 50:15.  There are only a few friends that I can say Psalm 50:15 directly/openly because when people does not believe what you believed, they will just look at you like you are crazy and out of this world.

My day job is to fix problems (electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, electronics, computers, networking), some problems are easy to fix and some are just so complicated and there are times that I face difficult problems with no solutions in sight.  Lately, we were mandated to write a standard operating procedure so that when the same problem arise, we have a procedure to follow (LEAN-Standardized Work).  That is a great idea, any one can just read the procedure and fix the problem.  I started writing one last week and as I gathered all the screen capture and inserted the pictures to the procedure, I questioned ‘myself what if the situation is slightly different?’ What shall I put when a situation in step1 is not what I expected to be in the procedure.  I was not able to continue my documentation and left it unfinished for now. Same thing with life, people attempted to write HOWTO’s, recovery books, self help books, articles on how to recover financially, articles on how to survive a life disaster, there are so many out there and I’ve read a few.  My favorite book long time ago was Dale Carnegie’sHow to Stop Worrying and Start Living”.  (phrases like “… “if you have a lemon, make a lemonade” “today is a new life”, “everyday is a brand new day”, “live in day tight compartments”.  I did not have time to researched Dale Carnegie and his personal background but his writings are inspirational and uplifting.  Amazingly, he wrote “The perfect way to conquer worry-PRAYER.  If I am given the chance to republish his book, I would place Psalm 50:15 on the cover and the first page will look like this:

STEP 0
I know that you are in a hurry to read my book “How To Stop Worrying and Start Living” but before you do that, I want you to go somewhere where it is very dark and quite (a closet will do fine) and I want you to cry to GOD and offload anything that bothers you.  Talk to God all the tiny details of your trouble and be very specific.  Ask questions, talk to Him as though he is there beside you.  When the crying begins, keep crying until there is no more tears left in your eyes.  When you ran out of words, just sit still and start talking in your mind.  Be very sensitive in all the things that comes to mind.  Those are the words that is coming from the Holy Spirit.  Listen to those words as if it is planted inside your heart.

STEP 0.0
Repeat STEP 0 everyday until you die.

In short, when in trouble, PRAY … because He said He is our Savior and He wants us to glorify Him after the storm (not us being glorified because we are so smart)

MADESTRONG; Day290

Psa 80:15  [Protect and maintain] the stock which Your right hand planted, and the branch (the son) that You have reared and made strong for Yourself.
Psa 80:16  They have burned it with fire, it is cut down; may they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.
Psa 80:17  Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom You have made strong for Yourself.
Read Psalm 80 – Full Chapter

I’ve been wearing a LIVESTRONG yellow rubber band in my right and a purple band from Celebration Church for quite sometime now.  The LIVESTRONG band represents living strong.  Just go to their website and read more there.  The purple band was given out by Celebration Church long time ago and I can still remember that excitement we had (Me, Brent and Brittney) when we got it because the inscription of the purple band was CELEBRATION-MIRACLE.  As of right now, me and Brent are still wearing it everyday and you will see that in some of our pictures.  I am not into material things (gold and silver apparel but I am wearing this one just because it carries a great message). Yesterday, before our morning meeting and the facilitator was still logging on, my boss finally asked me “What’s the purple band about?  My answer-It was from our church.  It was a short answer but I think it sends a message and it answers a lot of questions that has been lingering in my colleague’s mind of who I am internally (my core).  People are curious and nosy but they don’t really show that often but reading about it in a journal makes the revealing process less transparent and less invasive.  I don’t know who reads this journal and I don’t really care who reads this and this journal is not strictly written for a specific person nor I intend this to be my show case.  So now that you are reading it (boring most of the time), might as well follow this …. because this journal is getting interesting.  NOT

OK, MADESTRONG!  How did I came up with that today?  I pulled my devotional calendar and saw Psalm 80-15-17.  I was confused and could not understand why King David wrote this.  This is before Jesus was born.  I read the full chapter and found that he was talking about the vineyard and the true vine (which is in his future – Christ)  I was still confused after reading the full chapter and could not come up with a “one phrase” summary.  Then out of nowhere, the word “MADESTRONG” just popped up.  I search the Bible for the phrase “made strong” and there were 31 citing in both old and new testament.  I highlighted (bolded) the made strong words for you and I want you to read each line of verse.  After reading the 31 verses below, I concluded that being MADESTRONG is better than LIVESTRONG because MADESTRONG, I don’t have to do anything, He already made me strong.  Living strong, I still have to do something for myself.  Maybe in the future, I will create my own wrist band called MADESTRONG.

(1Sa 24:20)  And now I am certain that you will be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be made strong under your authority.
(2Sa 7:24)  But you took and made strong for yourself your people Israel, to be your people for ever; and you, Lord, became their God.
(2Sa 7:26)  And let your name be made great for ever, and let men say, The Lord of armies is God over Israel: and let the family of David your servant be made strong before you!
(1Ch 17:24)  So let your words be made certain and your name be made great, when men say, The Lord of armies is the God of Israel; and when the family of David your servant is made strong before you.
(2Ch 17:12)  Jehoshaphat became greater and greater, and made strong towers and store-towns in Judah.
(2Ch 32:5)  Then he took heart, building up the wall where it was broken down, and making its towers higher, and building another wall outside; and he made strong the Millo in the town of David, and got together a great store of all sorts of instruments of war.
(Ezr 7:28)  And has given mercy to me before the king and his government and before all the king’s great captains. And I was made strong by the hand of the Lord my God which was on me, and I got together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
(Psa 24:2)  For by him it was based on the seas, and made strong on the deep rivers.
(Psa 80:15)  Even to the tree which was planted by your right hand, and to the branch which you made strong for yourself.
(Psa 80:17)  Let your hand be on the man of your right hand, on the son of man whom you made strong for yourself.
(Psa 89:2)  For you have said, Mercy will be made strong for ever; my faith will be unchanging in the heavens.
(Psa 147:13)  He has made strong the iron bands of your doors; he has sent blessings on your children inside your walls.
(Pro 8:28)  When he made strong the skies overhead: when the fountains of the deep were fixed:
(Pro 24:3)  The building of a house is by wisdom, and by reason it is made strong:
(Pro 25:5)  Take away evil-doers from before the king, and the seat of his power will be made strong in righteousness.
(Isa 9:11)  For this cause the Lord has made strong the haters of Israel, driving them on to make war against him;
(Isa 28:22)  And now, take care that you do not make sport of him, or your bands will be made strong; for I have had word from the Lord, the Lord of armies, of an end, of a complete end, which is to come on all the land.
(Mat 8:31)  And the evil spirits made strong prayers to him, saying, If you send us out, let us go into the herd of pigs.
(Mat 15:31)  So that the people were full of wonder when they saw that those who had no voice were talking, the feeble were made strong, those whose bodies were broken had the power of walking, and the blind were able to see: and they gave glory to the God of Israel.
(Mar 5:10)  And he made strong prayers to him not to send them away out of the country.
(Mar 5:23)  And made strong prayers to him, saying, My little daughter is near to death: it is my prayer that you will come and put your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and have life.
(Act 9:31)  And so the church through all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was made strong; and, living in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, was increased greatly.
(Act 12:5)  So Peter was kept in prison: but the church made strong prayer to God for him.
(Act 16:5)  So the churches were made strong in the faith and were increased in number every day.
(Rom 1:11)  For I have a strong desire to see you, and to give you some grace of the spirit, so that you may be made strong;
(Rom 4:20)  Still, he did not give up faith in the undertaking of God, but was made strong by faith, giving glory to God,
(Phm 1:7)  For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.
(Heb 11:34)  Put out the power of fire, got safely away from the edge of the sword, were made strong when they had been feeble, became full of power in war, and put to flight the armies of the nations.
(Heb 12:12)  For this cause let the hands which are hanging down be lifted up, and let the feeble knees be made strong,
(Heb 12:13)  And make straight roads for your feet, so that the feeble may not be turned out of the way, but may be made strong.
(Heb 13:9)  Do not be turned away by different strange teachings, because it is good for your hearts to be made strong by grace, and not by meats, which were of no profit to those who took so much trouble over them.

One Way Gift; Day289

Eph 2:8  For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God;
Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Read Full Chapter of Ephesians 2

Grace – gift of God to humankind: in Christianity, the infinite love, mercy, favor, and goodwill shown to humankind by God
Faith – belief in and devotion to God, trust in somebody or something, especially without legal proof

I’ve been approached the other day by someone not close to me yet and he said, “What are you?  What’s in you?  You are different?  You don’t seem to get bothered by the turmoil of the daily pressure? My answer was simple and short, I believe in something that is guiding me everyday, whispering me what to do or what to say or how to react.  Then he keep asking “What do you mean?”  I told him I read and study the Bible everyday and everything I read from the Bible, I have to believe it and better yet, execute or take actions.  Then the conversation turned around when he told me, “I was once a believer” and started pouring me his struggles in life, family and religion at home.  First I learned about his financial problems then later his wife then his 3 year old kid then his mom and dad’s problems.  It turned out he is has been in difficult situation lately and he lost his faith.  Then he asked me, “How long you’ve been a Christian?” I said greater than 10 years, then he said, “me too but somehow along the way with life’s ups and downs, I lost it”

The word “I lost it” means he lost the faith.  Faith is the simple connection to the gift of God.  Without faith, we cannot connect to God.  There is something that is bothering me for sometimes now and if I don’t use my faith to strengthen me and connect me with God, all my works, all my efforts and all my inspiration is gone. I struggle everyday in my faith and in my walk with God because I am constantly in the battlefield.  I see people, I interact with people, I talk to people and I react to people and it seems like every time I open my mouth and say something, there is always this “behind the back question’ Is Rigel for real?’  I don’t really know but all I know that every morning right after waking up, I have to rejoice and thank God for allowing me to wake up again and repeat my daily routines.  Such a joy in my heart to be able to get up another morning and start a brand new day.  Me too, I lost it many times but I usually go back right away and backtrack where I’ve been and correct my course.  I don’t normally wait for a day to regroup and I am talking about an everyday regrouping of my faith and beliefs.  I have to do this or I will die spiritually.

Why one way gift?  We don’t give gifts to God, He gave us the gift.  All we have to do is receive it.  Open our arms and like a baby, just grab the gift that He gave us.  That simple.  Just receive it and there is no requirement that hey, I have to change myself, tame my tongue, or clean my act to receive the gift, in short it is a one way gift and we cannot give back to Him.  But how do we receive the gift? Well, the gift He gave us is invisible, you cannot see it, so therefore you have to receive it by faith.  In simple term, believe it.  Believe that He has given us something.  How exciting is that every day expecting a gift that we don’t see.  I want you to take the same journey that I am on every day.  Look for special gifts every day from heaven, it’s there, you just have to open your eyes and ears.  One rule, you can only receive the gift, there is no need for you to return a favor to Him. In the simplest form, that is the Christian faith.

24/7 Being Heard; Day288; Virtual Server 2005

Psa 6:8  Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. [Matt. 7:23; Luke 13:27.]
Psa 6:9  The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord receives my prayer.

Health Log: I got up early in the morning yesterday (as normal, 0430h) and do the same routines as stated in my daily journal.  Everything was normal and even beyond normal that my body had a little bit of extra energy.  I’ve added dumbbell curls 15llbs for 2 minutes and 25lbs for 1 minute after my cycling workout.  After arriving at work, I went inside the Fab and sat in the morning meeting from night shift.  As I was just sitting and listening to the meeting, my left chest started to pound with erratic beat like lab dab, then lab dab dab, lab dab dab, then lab dab and it lasted for several minutes.  My breathing feels normal and I checked my pulse and it was at 56bpm with normal rhythm.  I placed my right hand on my left chest and I could feel the flesh was bouncing up and down as the irregular heartbeat continues to manifest  (most likely muscle twitch and not my heart).  Fast forward.. after 10 hours of working, I was still alive and the abnormal heartbeat disappeared.  I am writing this information just so my future cardiologist (either Brittney or Brent) can learn from this later just in case something happens to me in a few days (cardio wise).  I am living with a life extension and I don’t trust my body anymore.  My body failed me last year even when I thought that 2009 was my best year ever in terms of cycling and swimming accomplishments.  As of this writing, everything is normal and my vitals are within spec.

Share: I’ve acquired a low cost Dell Poweredge 2850 lately and my original plan was to migrate all my Hyper-V virtual machines to this box to make it as the production server (part of my retirement project) because it has more power, more bandwidth and runs x64.  Then in the process of migration, I realized that the 2850 cannot run Hyper-V because the processor does not support hardware virtualization.  It is a x64 cpu but not designed for hyper-v.  So in order for me to continue on my project, I have to settle for Virtual Server 2005 R2 and it does the work just fine.  A guy from MSDN wrote the blog below to help me deploy the Virtual Server.

Charity Ending; Day285

2Pe 1:10  Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.
2Pe 1:10  For this reason, my brothers, take all the more care to make your selection and approval certain; for if you do these things you will never have a fall:

The end result of our faith is charity (and should be charity) if not then our faith failed or we did not posses the true faith. Read 2 Peter 1 Full Chapter

3. Temperance – restraint: self-restraint in the face of temptation or desire
4. Patience – capacity for waiting: the ability to endure waiting, delay, or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset, or to persevere calmly when faced with difficulties
5. Godliness – devout: devoted to or worshiping God
6. Kindness – compassionate act: an act that shows consideration and caring
7. Charity – provision of help: the voluntary provision of money, materials, or help to people in need

I am confused about my calling, I know I have one, each one of us are called.  I know that I saw this vision before of what it is that I am called for but it bothers me that some pieces of the puzzle are missing.  Will I consider this a “stop signal” or a “wait signal” or a “be patient signal”.  I don’t know anymore.  I want to do something, I have the faith but I don’t have the cooperation of the people around me.  Do I need to wait or shall I proceed?  If you know what I am talking about, please drop me a message. In the mean time, journey with me to step 7. I am looking for partners in this long journey.

Dried Tears; Day284

Rev 21:4  God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away. [Isa. 25:8; 35:10.]
Psa 107:28  Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses.
Psa 107:29  He hushes the storm to a calm and to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea are still. [Ps. 89:9; Matt. 8:26.]
Psa 107:30  Then the men are glad because of the calm, and He brings them to their desired haven.

I am reposting Praise You In The Storm here because it fits to the Word of the Day. I’ve been in the crossroad lately, actually me and my wife and my daughter are in the middle of indecision.  Brittney, my 16 years old just got her driver’s license a month ago and now the idea of getting a car for her comes up all the time.  Will you trust your 16 years old out there in the open?  Homeostasis-resistance to change (that’s where I am right now, my family in general). Life is good, every corner under my management at home is just so perfect and I have no headaches or big problems.  I can’t imagine myself going through a teen driver crisis and that is why I hold off as much as I could of getting her a car.  I also believe that sometimes we have to get out from our comfort zone and be brave out there.  My wife thinks that I am too stiff of my decision making, that I made up my mind too strong that no one can change it.  Not so, actually, I think my daughter will get her car sooner than we think (after a heavenly confirmation).

I have to mention the teen driver situation because yesterday when I passed by at Shoreline Christian Center, I had a teary eyes thinking about how Pastor Rob (about my age) dealt his losses, first his dad died in a boating accident and then a week later, his 16-year old son wrecked his car and died.  Pastor Rob’s faith been tested beyond comprehension, how do you recover from those kind of losses.  The Philippines lately experienced a horrible series of storms, the pictures of the devastation are so shocking but encouraging. Encouraging in a sense that people are helping people.  Typical Filipino trait, seldom you see that in other countries.  I was in the Ormoc flood in 1991 and I saw the same thing that I’ve seen lately in the news.  People helping people.  Now switching gears at my circle, lately, I’ve been helping out friends who lost their job.  The economy is already hard for those who have a steady job, how much more to those who still have to look for one.  One friend of mine, has 5 kids, wife was not working (to take care of the kids) and then the husband lost his job.  The family lost more than a paycheck, they lost a security blanket over them.  How do you overcome that? Another close friend of mine who is separated from his wife for >8 years to provide for his family and lately had been suffering from physical problems with no wife or child to comfort him, how do you deal with that?

In short, we have tears in every corner of this life. Some has less and some just happened to be well selected to suffer.  I mentioned ‘selected’ because when you have the most amount of tears, you are more glorified in the end.  Friends sometimes asked me difficult questions “Why it is me?” Why do I have to suffer? Why others are just living a good life everyday and me … always in a roller coaster of defeat and suffering. The correct answer is “I don’t know” but I know that God will wipe away every tears in ours eyes one day.  I will keep trusting Him no matter what. I hope that you will too.  Be encourage!  Our tears will evaporate one day.

Welcome Mrs. Fredelita Kong, Abing, Gene and wife, Girlie in my Facebook.

Better Than Gold; Day279

1Pe 1:7  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
1Pe 1:7  So that [the genuineness] of your faith may be tested, [your faith] which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. [This proving of your faith is intended] to redound to [your] praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed.

– Sin; Day278

2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
2Co 5:21  For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

Joy of Persecution; Day271

Mat 5:11  Blessed (happy, to be envied, and spiritually prosperous–with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward conditions) are you when people revile you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things against you falsely on My account.
Mat 5:12  Be glad and supremely joyful, for your reward in heaven is great (strong and intense), for in this same way people persecuted the prophets who were before you. [II Chron. 36:16.]

Forever Company; Day265

Isa 43:2  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you.
Full Chapter of Isaiah 43

Commentary by Barnes: Isa 43:2 –
When thou passest through the waters – This is a general promise, and means that whenever and wherever they should pass through water or fire, he would protect them. It had been true in their past history as a people; and the assurance is here given in order that they might be comforted in view of the calamities which they were then suffering in Babylon. Fire and water are often used in the Scriptures to denote calamity – the latter because it overwhelms; the former because it consumes; see Psa_69:1 – ‘The waters are come into my soul;’ also Psa_73:10; Psa_124:4-5; Psa_66:12 – ‘We went through fire and through water.’
I will be with thee – (Compare the note at Isa_41:10).
And through the rivers – Also expressive of calamity and danger – like attempting to ford deep and rapid streams.
They shall not overflow thee – As was the case with the Jordan when they crossed it under the guidance of Joshua, and a pathway was made for the armies of Israel.
When thou walkest through the fire – This is expressive of calamity and danger in general like passing through fire. Yet it had a literal fulfillment in the case of the three pious Jews who were cast by Nebuchadnezzar into the burning furnace Dan_3:25, Dan_3:27.
Neither shall the flame kindle upon thee – It shall not only not consume thee, but it shall hog even burn, or injure thee (see Dan_3:27). The Chaldee Paraphrase refers this verse to the passage through the Red Sea, and to the protection which God gave his people there. It is rendered, ‘In the beginning, when you passed through the Red Sea, my word was your aid. Pharaoh and Egypt, who were mighty like the waters of a river, were not able to prevail against you. And when thou didst go among a people who were formidable like fire, they could not prevail against you, and the kingdoms which were strong like flame could not consume you.’ It is, however, to be understood rather as a promise pertaining to the future; though the language is mainly derived, undoubtedly, from God’s protecting them in their perils in former times.

More Notes (if you are outside FB)

The Praise and Worship was great today.  As usual, my daughter Brittney was with me (without fail)(Britta and Brent still in the works).  I wish I started early in my Christian walk.  But then, during my early years, the movement of the Holy Spirit was not as visible as it is right now.  I like my daughter’s attitude towards going to church, I know that she have not fully understand the whole truth yet and every Sunday morning at 0845h, I always peek at her door if the light is on and she if is changing for church.  For countless times now, she always came out changed already and ready to go. I made it a habit not to ask her to come with me.  I want her to do it by herself and she’s been very positive in receiving heavenly encouragement every Sunday.  Later when we sat down in the car, I always throw this question at her “Are you going through the motion with me?”. … silence and then off we go.

Today was another great message we received at Celebration Church. You can watch Christine Caine through Livestream (select On Demand–> click the Sept 13 broadcast) . If you are bored and needed some encouragement or some life direction, the sermon she preached is for you. (Elie, please find time). Such a new revelation regarding risks and how we should handle it when it comes.  Another thing I learned today which coincided with my own principle is “going to places where there is no path”. What she meant is “step out from your comfort zone and take some risks”.  “Do the abnormal things in life”.  “Be different” . See myNotes.

Hmmmm… what can I do tomorrow?

All Weather
Every morning right after getting up, I normally start this devotional/schedule/journal in that order.  I am smart (LEAN Smart), I am using a template and ‘no’ I don’t spend hours writing everyday, just a few minutes. I do meditate the daily Bible verses and always asked this question: “What do you mean Lord?” pertaining to the message of the day.  I can’t force you to follow my system of doing things but all I can say here is ‘this system works’.  Map your day from 0000-2400 (hourly) and plug-in the things that you want to do/accomplish and you will be amazed how many things are completed by the end of the day.  Try it.

At 1800h, I was scheduled to mow my yard and spend 1 hour on the task.  Then at halfway point, heavy rain started pouring (i mean heavy rain). Since I wrote it in my schedule, I told myself “I will finish this task even if there is a flood”….. and I did.  How I wish I can impart that mindset to all my friends and family.  Life is not that hard to live.  PLAN, DO, STUDY, ACT.

Regard to all.

Beginning of Glory; Day262

Mat 1:21  She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus [the Greek form of the Hebrew Joshua, which means Savior], for He will save His people from their sins [that is, prevent them from failing and missing the true end and scope of life, which is God].

Song of the Week – You Are Lord of Everything

You are Lord, You are Lord
You are Lord of everything,
Jesus, You’re Lord of everything.

You are righteous and holy,
full of mercy and truth,
Jesus, You’re Lord of everything.
Cover me with the blood from Calvary,
give me eyes of faith so I can see;
All that’s in my heart I give to You,
for only by Your grace can I make it through.

Messages:

Hold Fast->Confession; Day259; Thank You!

Heb 4:14  Having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Heb 4:15  For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 4:16  Let us therefore draw near with boldness unto the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace to help us in time of need.

Peace Requirements; Day257; LabVIEW Test Lab

2Co 13:11  Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfected; be comforted; be of the same mind; live in peace: and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
2Co 13:11  Finally, brethren, farewell (rejoice)! Be strengthened (perfected, completed, made what you ought to be); be encouraged and consoled and comforted; be of the same [agreeable] mind one with another; live in peace, and [then] the God of love [Who is the Source of affection, goodwill, love, and benevolence toward men] and the Author and Promoter of peace will be with you.
2 Corinthians 13

Be perfected – aim towards perfection everyday, change a habit that will not contribute to a better YOU.
Be comforted – the Holy Spirit comforts, receive Him at every possible moment
Be of the same mind – agree with one another; don’t argue; avoid division; make up your mind and then stick to it; avoid double mindedness; if you have an open door, get in and take the first step.  If God already showed you the way, be of the same mind as Him, He gave it to you anyway.
Live in peace – at all times, choose peace.

My LabVIEW Test Lab
Every weekend before the end of the workweek, some of my co-workers asked me this question: “What are you doing this weekend?”  I always tell them “same old routines and nothing changed” yard work, household work, swim, bike, run, eat, sleep, working in my lab.  Right after I mentioned ‘working in the lab’, they all wonder “what lab?”.  Yes, I have science lab at home.  I’ve been trying to document the lab and it is still unfinished but here is the preliminary documentation setup.  It is operational but I haven’t fully utilized/explored its capabilities. If you are interested in exploring/experimenting digital electronics, please let me know so that we can get together and create/build some exciting projects.  As of right now, my only goal is purely “diagnostics”.  I want to find out a defective part by just plugging it in into my home made diagnostic kit (HMDK) ie. I have a dead DVD recorder that needs troubleshooting, this will be a good start.  In the meantime, read the links below if you are interested and let me know so that we can share ideas and resources.  I need a partner … who knows one day we can invent something.

Zero Worry; Day253; DIY Starbucks

Mat 6:31  Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?
Mat 6:32  For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.

image

I wanted to make my own latte at home and I don’t want to drive to Starbucks early in the morning and spend half a gallon of gas and then $3.00 something on a cup of coffee.  So last week, I did some little research about the subject “espresso making” and I’ve learned that making a latte is NRS (not rocket science).  If Starbucks can do it, you can do it!

Total project cost = $87.00
Time to make a latte = <5 minutes
Break even point (Starbucks) = 29 cups
Glory to make your own espresso = priceless
Joy of making an espresso for the wife = 10.0 (highest), you should see her face on the first cup.

Praise and Worship Media Center

I’ve mentioned this link before and I will mention it again here because the Word for today is about Praise and Worship.  The backend of the media center is a W2003 virtual server running within Hyper-V (Windows 2008) of which the Sharepoint is also hosted. Personally, I think this is one of the most important project that I’ve ever done in my entire life but never received a much pushed to the public.  It’s been there since my dynip site started and it’s been running 24/7 since then (from home, before you tube even existed). This is only a test site but feel to to tune in.

Why build the Praise and Worship Media Center?
–  I wanted to share my Praise and Worship music

Why I wanted to share my Praise and Worship music?
–  There is something about Praise and Worship.  1989, my first time of attending a different kind of church where they had a band up front (a full band) and the congregation were also singing and dancing as the band played.  I was 5 minutes late on my first trip to this church.  No one invited me except just the leading of the Holy Spirit. The name of the church was Maranatha Christian Fellowship and they held their Sunday service at the movie theater (Century21 at Mango ave.) I was skeptical/hesitant of going to this church because first I did not know anything about it and second no one is telling me about who they are , what they are and what they believe.  As I’ve said, I was 5 minutes late so the praise and worship service had already started and the people were already in full praise/worship mood.  The moment I stepped inside the theater, these are the words that came out from my mouth “I’ve been looking for this place for a long time” (I’ll never forget that statement), such a relief in my heart that I finally found a place that I’ve been looking for.  From that day onward, my life shifted into different gears and I never stopped.  Later, I realized that that day was my first day in the Kingdom of God here on earth.  It was the Praise and Worship that get me started in my walk with Christ

As a friend, I want to invite you to find a church that believes in Praise and Worship.  Go there, try it out and see what a great experience it is.  My prayer – is for you to experience the Glory of God.  If only I can spoon feed it for you, I will … but that is not how it works in the Kingdom.  Please, when you are led in your heart to go to a place, obey.  Keep walking until you are inside.  He is leading you in the right direction. This churches are all over the world.  It is a movement and there is no stopping.  It is called the movement of the Holy Spirit and it sweeping every corner of the world – one life at a time.

To all my friends who greeted me “happy birthday”, thank you all!  I am so grateful that I have friends.  I did not know I had more than 1 in my entire life.  I get alerted in my Treo whenever someone sends a message to my FB account and my inbox is now cluttered (in a good way) full of greetings.  I did not realize how good it feels to be greeted on your birthday especially from those that you never expected.

Off topic: This song has a special place in my heart Rock of My Salvation . During my Day03 post my MI, I played this over and over until I cried and then the Holy Spirit comforted me.

Jam 1:26  If anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religious service is worthless (futile, barren).

I was reading some LEAN notes today and found the following articles interesting.
5S Game Handouts
5S-Philosophy

In the last few months, I’ve been helping a few friends go through a storm in life.  Many times I always requested them to get a notebook and write down stuff or sometimes I wrote down notes in my notebook and then we discuss the problem one on one.  I repeated that suggestion last night to a friend and I hope that she will listen.  I’ve been looking for reasons why I’m always doing that and I think I found the reason why with the illustration below from the 5S Game Handouts .  I am surrounded with technology at home and at work.  I have a Sharepoint Site at home and I have a Sharepoint Site at work and I have a blog for the rest of the world to collect/publish notes for my daily activities and I have a Treo800 with me where ever I go but I also kept a notebook at home and at work and I am always scribbling in my notebook of whatever things I do, my MIT’s and simple tasks.  My notebook (paper notebook, not the laptop) helped me in so many ways/times to get started with a difficult problem and 99% of the time, the information I wrote on it always get me to priority 1.

So here’s a simple exercise for you.
1. Download the document  5S Game Handouts
2. Print or view pages 3 and 12
3. Grab a timer and look for the number #1 on page3, record your time.
4. Then on Page12, look for the number #1, record your time.
5. Compare both times and see difference.

Lesson Learned:
Big events in our life or big problems may it be personal or emotional or calamity/disaster type or may it be a simple problem at work or at home, if the data (the problem space) is unsorted, it is really hard to find the first priority (or the top 5 priorities).  Have you noticed on the sorted picture how easy it is to look up any priorities?  I shared this exercise to my daughter and she is now 5S’d.  I explained to her how we accomplished her driver’s training in 6 months by first collecting all the task at once first and then sorting it out and documenting it.

I do hope that you too will try out 5S in your life.

DREAM: “Someone stole my bike at the library”:  I went to the library building riding my bicycle and I left the bicycle outside the building with no locks.  When I was done inside the library, I left the building but I could not find my bike, it was stolen.  I did not even try to look for it, I just said, they can have it.

I don’t consider myself an interpreter of dreams (I don’t claim to be) but whenever I dream of something like this, I always ask God to give me at least a glimpsed of what it is.  Me and Brittney went to church today and as usual, she was driving mom’s car and I was at the passenger seat.  I told her about my dream and she said that she had the same dream but instead of the bike stolen, it was my truck (the Yukon) that was stolen while she was using it going somewhere.  Maybe this is irrelevant but I just want to mention that here for record purposes.  So during the Praise and Worship part of the service, I closed my eyes (as always) when the song is slow and people are worshipping God in the Spirit and then I ask the Lord to give me some hints about my dream.  It took a while but then the impression was this: The bike represents the event (the vehicle/transportation) the library (building) represents the Kingdom of God.  What leads me to the Kingdom of God was my bicycle accident that almost claimed my life and brought me into a new life-The life that I am in right now.. the Kingdom of God.  The stolen bike represents the same event is being used to bring someone to the Kingdom of God. In short, “He uses big events in our lives to bring us into the Kingdom of God.”  So whenever I see “big events” in someone’s life, that is my hint that that person is about to experience a very special invitation to walk into the Kingdom.

Make A Change

I would like to share this video to my new found best friend in CA.  He likes MJ (I don’t) but I love this song.  When I decided i want to change the world, yup “THE WORLD”, I looked at myself first and edited my ways.
Here’s a few changes that I made:
1. I opened my life to everyone.  I am now an open book.
2. I make friends when I can, not enemies.
3. I now share when I can.
4. I slow down my reaction time to anything.
5. I made my family as my fist priority
6. I exercise daily (so that I won’t need a workout schedule)
7. I learn how to trust a friend, family, co-workers and God
8. I try to learn one thing everyday.
9. I listen more than I talk.
10. I let my enemies win the battle (so that I can win the war)
11. I now take some risks (not very cautious anymore)
12. I am more forgiving (100% tolerance with other people)
13. A helper/servant when I can
14. I now value “today” more than the future.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

“Man In The Mirror”
I’m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It’s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .

As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin’ My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer’s Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man’s Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya’ Know
‘Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That’s Why I Want You To
Know

I’m Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I’m Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place

Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And

(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,

I’ve Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It’s Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They’re Not
Alone?

A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody’s Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya’ See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be

Special Delivery; Day244; First Day Of School

Psa 34:19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Jehovah delivers him out of them all.
Psa 34:19  Many evils confront the [consistently] righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

My lifetime afflictions:
1972-Age 08, I was hit in the head by a flying baseball bat during a baseball game in Merida
1983-Age 18, Death of my father (I was so sad/confused, I wore a mourning pin for 2 years … I think). Started college without my dad.  Decided to follow his footsteps. Enrolled at CIT and then took up EE. Same school/same objectives.
1986-Age 20, Met my wife Britta for the first time (this is not an affliction) ;-O
1988-Age 23, Fell from a 15 feet ceiling to the ground (first day of work at General Milling Corporation)
1988-Age 23, First bike accident at Pardo-Mactan route, hit a pedestrian at 18mph
1989-Age 24, Second bike accident at the foot of Mactan Bridge, (almost died, Mama Bulak and Papa Jojo were there and helped me, Bebs/Chadd nursing my wounds)
TURNING POINT OF MY LIFE: 1989, Easter Sunday – Eden was there and witnessed me responding the altar call by Pastor Joe Desarno
1989-Age 24, Gave my life to Christ (Maranatha Christian Fellowship – Pastor Tony Ebarra and Joe Alfafara as my mentors), gave up my 5 years of Aikido training in exchange for the promise of the Holy Spirit.
1991-Age 25, Survived the Ormoc flood in November 5, 1991, ~5000 people died. This is 5 days before my departure to New York to meet Britta. Witnessed the rising of the water at the bus terminal and the 9 feet water level rising at Rizal Street. I survived that day. Ended up sleeping in the car overnight after helping at maternity hospital with Marla and Lynnete Go.  Slept in my car and at around 3am in the morning, I started crying as the Holy Spirit ministered to me about the disaster.  I did not know yet that there were 5000 casualties that day.  My car (mom’s red car-undamaged) was parked right in front of the catholic church (children’s playground), I walked towards the sea wall with mud about 2 inches deep.  Saw dead people on the street, the beautiful bermuda playground was covered with mud and debris.  Saw cars hanging at the edge of the sea wall and just a bunch of  dead bodies lying on the ground. I asked God why this disaster has to happen? His answer, “My ways are not your ways”.  From that day on, I don’t question Him anymore.  He has His own ways.
1992-Age 26, I joined the Army in New York (could not find an engineering job in NY) and the day before I was scheduled for boot camp, we learned that Brtita was pregnant with Brittney. So sad to leave Britta pregnant.  I wanted out but I already signed the papers.  Start of 4 years wandering in the desert to find the promise land.
1996-Age 30, Got out of the Army, did not know where to find a job.  Fast forward, I end up working for AMD in Austin
1998-Age 32, A Samsung manager called me and asked me to work for Samsung, I hesitated/regretted at first because AMD was at the peak at that time (took a pay cut).  But this decision to work for Samsung led to a better job and I met new friends.
2001, Age36, I was sharpening a lawn mower blade using an electric angle grinder.  I dropped the grinder accidentally and the running grinder hit my right knee, open wound (1”x.5” in size) and blood was all over.  Knee was fine at the end of the day.
2001, Age 36, I was driving from work (nigh shift), my car hydroplaned, did a 360 in the middle of Parmer Lane at 50mph, I hit the guard rail but survived.  Broken front bumper was the only damage.
2002, Age 37, During my 45mile bike ride, at Mile 25 near Rice Crossing, 2 dogs attacked me, I tried to evade but end up crashing hard. Bleeding and bruises on my left arm and leg, pedaled for 20 miles to get home.  Survived to tell the story.
2004, Age 38, Car crash in Interstate I35 at 70 mph, I slammed my brakes and avoided the accident but the driver behind me failed to stop and and a loud “bang” and a severe shaking of my car right after.  I got out of the car to assess damage, Pathfinder did not have any structural damage, just a broken license plate holder.  Did not even claim any insurance.
to 2006, Age 40, A close family member suffered a setback, I had to fly to New York to pick her up.  The objective was to travel back by car with her.  At mile100 after we left New York, the car started making noise.  I prayed and told God I will not stop driving for this car problem.  At mile 200, the noise stopped.  We slept through the night in a hotel and then drove the next day. After 1500 miles, mission accomplished.  Got her settled at my home.
2006, Age 40, My marriage was threatened by external event, Britta emotionally exploded on Christmas Day of 2006. (one of the greatest ordeal I have to survive)
2007, Age 41, Applied a job for Samsung Fab2, just wanted to work with new technology. Did not know that Fab1 was in the brink of closing.  A good move
2008, Age 42, My heart attack at age 42, almost died (100% blockage post my 1 hour indoor cycling training, did not collapsed, collateral arteries saved my heart.
2009, Age 43, Samsung work stability threatened, I survived.

So why do I have to mention all these events here?  One reason, to show to some of my friends that God and his promises are real.  If you experienced those afflictions and survived, will you be silent?  I won’t because those experiences can encourage other people.  Those hard times are examples of trials and tribulations turned into victory.   It is really hard for me to convince some of you that all of these are true but I did truly have a first hand experience of Psalm 34:19.  The key word is “ALL” and just a few and that is the reason why I worship and praise Him every time I have the opportunity.  I know that some of you are questioning your life’s disasters.  Why it has to be me?  Why this time?  And the most dreadful question … Why?  One sermon told me that everything in our lives are pre-arranged and I never believed on that before; but when I look back into my colorful/interesting life journey, I can always agree on that statement.  Things do happen for a reason.  Sad to say that sometimes we wont know the answer until we are out from the big storm.  Be encourage.  God is still in control of your destiny,

Life is filled with afflictions but when we are following the path of righteousness, God will provide us with an exit strategy and deliver us victoriously.

To my friend Ellie, the Holy Spirit is ministering to you. Do not be bothered.  Our God is a God of Peace and not confusion.  We just need to piece together the things that was placed in your heart long time ago.  One hint, it is for the Glory of His Kingdom.  Keep reading.

Week After The Storm; Day243; 2 Dreams

Pro 10:25  As the storm passes, so the wicked is no more; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
Pro 10:25  When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous have an everlasting foundation. [Ps. 125:1; Matt. 7:24-27.]

ScreenShot060

I woke up this morning with a confusing dream. (at first)
Dream1: 2 boats,Roel and my sisters in bed
Dream2: Nestor’s old cubicle filled with people.

Whenever I have dreams like this, I normally just get up and forget about it.  This time, I took time to write/draw it down in my notebook and the message become so clear to me as I reconstructs the event in that dream.  The first dream is an action, a command to do something.  The second dream is a promise of hope for my dear friend Nestor who just lost his job at Samsung.  To Nestor, hang in there.

A week after the whirlwind passes in my face and life goes on.  My immune system to a storm is very robust.  Sometimes when you have so many storms in life, you tend to enjoy it more than you hate it because you know/ I know that I will make it to the end.  I am not saying that I always survive but I know personally that I have a Person in my back to cover me.  I don’t give myself credit for surviving the storm.  There is a God in heaven that orchestrate all these…. for good. This is just not for me but for you too.  He did not allow those storm to passover you for nothing.  He has plans for you.  Be excited.

Project Report: Daughter’s Texas Driver’s License

Project Title: Obtaining a Texas Driver’s License (Parent Taught Program)
Duration: 6 Months (February-August 2009)
Documentation:

January of 2009, my 16 years old daughter asked me about obtaining her Texas driver’s license and I was so overwhelmed of the magnitude of the entire project.  I just had my myocardial infarction 30 days ago (December 22, 2008) and now I have to put together a plan to obtain her personal objectives.  I decided to apply the project management training I’ve learned for years and I assigned myself as the project manager and my daughter as the member.  Using my Sharepoint Site as the container of the documentation, I formed the framework of the project and wrote down all the tasks.  At that time, we were so overwhelmed what to do but we keep pushing forward.  My daughter did all the leg work as I gave her the tasks to execute.  At times, she complained… but I persisted.  We had an option to send her to a professional driving school but she was hesitant to sit in the classroom for hours and I figured out also that I am a better teacher … ;-()  It took at least 6 months to fully complete the project but in the end, it was a job well done for her, not just obtaining her objective but learning other things along the way like, calling DPS by herself, going to school and getting her requirements and being pushy to me to get things done.  I know that driving a car is a lifelong training, (even myself still learn new things on the road).  The greatest benefit was the relationship we established during those training times.  Me and my daughter are closer to each other more than ever.  The bond we developed were priceless.  You cannot put a price in spending time with your daughter especially when driving is a necessity in life.  I think when I’m gone, she will always remember that dad helped her in a special way.  Her smiles in the picture below will always be in my mind, it was such a great accomplishment for both of us.  We did it together.

I documented this project because I want you (my readers) to try something like this to your children.  I know it is easier to just send them to a driving school but the things that she learns along the way are far more important and lasting.

UPDATE: Just an hour ago, she told me that she went to Starbucks by herself, then went to Barnes and Nobles to get some school supplies.  Today is a milestone for our family.  We now have a new driver in the house.  What’s next?  Hmmm.  Kids do grow up so quick!

Psa 57:2  I will cry to God most high, to God who does all things for me.

SONG: I Praise You In This Storm

Casting Crowns – Praise You In This Storm
This song is dedicated to all my friends who are in the storm.  Hang in there.  I know it is hard but sometimes we are brought into a storm in our lives to strengthen us, to define us, to mold us into a better person and to give us an extra boost of energy to leap into a different level of our existence.  There is a divine reason why we are in the storm, find it and never stop asking until you get your answers. Be encourage.  I am always praying for all you.

  [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ype1xE0wzsg&hl=en]

I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day

But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

Chorus:
I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can’t find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

Chorus:
(2x’s)
I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The maker of Heaven and Earth
Chorus:

Paid With High Price; Day240; Grief NM

1Pe 1:18  knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers,
1Pe 1:19  but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot;

Yesterday was one of the heavy emotion day for me at work.  I lost a very close co-worker and what’s hard is I never saw it coming.   I thought he was doing well and secured in his job.  On the other hand, my other close friend kept his job.   The only bad thing is I am close to both guys and I think the reason one was kept is because the other was let go.  It’s complicated to explain but you get the point, I am just having a mixed emotion waking up this morning.  His departure from my workplace felt like a death in my family and even my team were so shocked why it has to be him.  I helped this guy get this job a few years ago.  I personally mentored this guy, groomed him, helped him in whatever ways.  He was not an ordinary co-worker of mine but a friend, a close friend.  These are the things I don’t understand in life.  Sometimes things happen to trigger a better event and I am praying and hoping that this event will lead into a better life for him.  Lord, I pray that you bless this guy the more.  I know that you allowed this thing to happen to him and you must have good reasons behind it.  Show to the world that you can turn a bad day into a victorious lifetime.  Show to him that even though he suffered today, that on the next day you will provide him with better opportunities. I asked this in Jesus name and I know you heard me.  Let there be peace in his mind and heart today. Let there be security and comfort that even though he is in the middle of the storm, you provide him with an invisible guidance to look for things to consider to provide for his family.  To all my prayer partners, please help me intercede.

Dream: I was walking in a group when my boss called me and said, “this will not take that much time, I need to show you something”. He opened a conference room filled with people with an empty blackboard and it was evident that the contents of the board was just erased. 20090819, 0530

Inner Peace; Day239; A Fresh Start at Samsung

Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Rom 5:2  Through Him we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice on the hope of the glory of God.

I am thankful that I was given another chance to prove to the management that I have still some value left on me.  I am thankful that TripleR stayed together also.  I am sad because I will miss quite a few friends that I bonded for >10 years.  It is a heartbreaker to watch a place full of glorious days and then in one day be wiped away. These are the things that is really hard to understand.  Why would God allow these things to happen?  I know the answer to this question but I just want to mention that here to let you know that I sometimes question God.

All Things For Good; Day236

Rom 8:26  So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.
Rom 8:27  And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God’s will. [Ps. 139:1, 2.]
Rom 8:28  We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.

Please read Matthew’s Henry’s commentary below for more in depth exposition of today’s Word. He explained it so well.  I know it is long but it is worth reading and learning.

Matthew Henry’s Commentary: (bio)
Rom 8:26-28 –
The apostle here suggests two privileges more to which true Christians are entitled: –
I. The help of the Spirit in prayer. While we are in this world, hoping and waiting for what we see not, we must be praying. Hope supposes desire, and that desire offered up to God is prayer; we groan. Now observe,

1. Our weakness in prayer: We know not what we should pray for as we ought. (1.) As to the matter of our requests, we know not what to ask. We are not competent judges of our own condition. Who knows what is good for a man in this life? Ecc_6:12. We are short-sighted, and very much biassed in favour of the flesh, and apt to separate the end from the way. You know not what you ask, Mat_20:22. We are like foolish children, that are ready to cry for fruit before it is ripe and fit for them; see Luk_9:54, Luk_9:55. (2.) As to the manner, we know not how to pray as we ought. It is not enough that we do that which is good, but we must do it well, seek in a due order; and here we are often at a loss – graces are weak, affections cold, thoughts wandering, and it is not always easy to find the heart to pray, 2Sa_7:27. The apostle speaks of this in the first person: We know not. He puts himself among the rest. Folly, and weakness, and distraction in prayer, are what all the saints are complaining of. If so great a saint as Paul knew not what to pray for, what little reason have we to go forth about that duty in our own strength!

2. The assistances which the Spirit gives us in that duty. He helps our infirmities, meant especially of our praying infirmities, which most easily beset us in that duty, against which the Spirit helps. The Spirit in the world helps; many rules and promises there are in the word for our help. The Spirit in the heart helps, dwelling in us, working in us, as a Spirit of grace and supplication, especially with respect to the infirmities we are under when we are in a suffering state, when our faith is most apt to fail; for this end the Holy Ghost was poured out. Helpeth, sumantilambanetai – heaves with us, over against us, helps as we help one that would lift up a burden, by lifting over against him at the other end – helps with us, that is, with us doing our endeavour, putting forth the strength we have. We must not sit still, and expect that the Spirit should do all; when the Spirit goes before us we must bestir ourselves. We cannot without God, and he will not without us. What help? Why, the Spirit itself makes intercession for us, dictates our requests, indites our petitions, draws up our plea for us. Christ intercedes for us in heaven, the Spirit intercedes for us in our hearts; so graciously has God provided for the encouragement of the praying remnant. The Spirit, as an enlightening Spirit, teaches us what to pray for, as a sanctifying Spirit works and excites praying graces, as a comforting Spirit silences our fears, and helps us over all our discouragements. The Holy Spirit is the spring of all our desires and breathings towards God. Now this intercession which the Spirit makes is, (1.) With groanings that cannot be uttered. The strength and fervency of those desires which the Holy Spirit works are hereby intimated. There may be praying in the Spirit where there is not a word spoken; as Moses prayed (Exo_14:15), and Hannah, 1Sa_1:13. It is not the rhetoric and eloquence, but the faith and fervency, of our prayers, that the Spirit works, as an intercessor, in us. Cannot be uttered; they are so confused, the soul is in such a hurry with temptations and troubles, we know not what to say, nor how to express ourselves. Here is the Spirit interceding with groans that cannot be uttered. When we can but cry, Abba, Father, and refer ourselves to him with a holy humble boldness, this is the work of the Spirit. (2.) According to the will of God, Rom_8:27. The Spirit in the heart never contradicts the Spirit in the word. Those desires that are contrary to the will of God do not come from the Spirit. The Spirit interceding in us evermore melts our wills into the will of God. Not as I will, but as thou wilt.

3. The sure success of these intercessions: He that searches the heart knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, Rom_8:27. To a hypocrite, all whose religion lies in his tongue, nothing is more dreadful than that God searches the heart and sees through all his disguises. To a sincere Christian, who makes heart-work of his duty, nothing is more comfortable than that God searches the heart, for then he will hear and answer those desires which we want words to express. He knows what we have need of before we ask, Mat_6:8. He knows what is the mind of his own Spirit in us. And, as he always hears the Son interceding for us, so he always hears the Spirit interceding in us, because his intercession is according to the will of God. What could have been done more for the comfort of the Lord’s people, in all their addresses to God? Christ had said, “Whatever you ask the Father according to his will he will give it you.” But how shall we learn to ask according to his will? Why, the Spirit will teach us that. Therefore it is that the seed of Jacob never seek in vain.

II. The concurrence of all providences for the good of those that are Christ’s, Rom_8:28. It might be objected that, notwithstanding all these privileges, we see believers compassed about with manifold afflictions; though the Spirit makes intercession for them, yet their troubles are continued. It is very true; but in this the Spirit’s intercession is always effectual, that, however it goes with them, all this is working together for their good. Observe here.

1. The character of the saints, who are interested in this privilege; they are here described by such properties as are common to all that are truly sanctified. (1.) They love God. This includes all the out-goings of the soul’s affections towards God as the chief good and highest end. It is our love to God that makes every providence sweet, and therefore profitable. Those that love God make the best of all he does, and take all in good part. (2.) They are the called according to his purpose, effectually called according to the eternal purpose. The call is effectual, not according to any merit or desert of ours, but according to God’s own gracious purpose.

2. The privilege of the saints, that all things work together for good to them, that is, all the providences of God that concern them. All that God performs he performs for them, Psa_57:2. Their sins are not of his performing, therefore not intended here, though his permitting sin is made to work for their good, 2Ch_32:31. But all the providences of God are theirs – merciful providences, afflicting providences, personal, public. They are all for good; perhaps for temporal good, as Joseph’s troubles; at least, for spiritual and eternal good. That is good for them which does their souls good. Either directly or indirectly, every providence has a tendency to the spiritual good of those that love God, breaking them off from sin, bringing them nearer to God, weaning them from the world, fitting them for heaven. Work together. They work, as physic works upon the body, various ways, according to the intention of the physician; but all for the patient’s good. They work together, as several ingredients in a medicine concur to answer the intention. God hath set the one over against the other (Ecc_7:14): sunergei, a very singular, with a noun plural, denoting the harmony of Providence and its uniform designs, all the wheels as one wheel, Eze_10:13. He worketh all things together for good; so some read it. It is not from any specific quality in the providences themselves, but from the power and grace of God working in, with, and by, these providences. All this we know – know it for a certainty, from the word of God, from our own experience, and from the experience of all the saints.

When I Cry; Day235; Sharepoint Server 2007

Psa 56:9  When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

When I cry (meaning-pray) to God, my enemies turn back.  Unknowingly, we have so many enemies around us and we just don’t normally recognize them.  Take for example a day full of misfortune.  Somehow there are days that are just full of mistakes, problems, heartaches, sickness, bad news, anxiety, worries, fears and they come in batches and sometimes in big bundles that we are so overwhelmed of it.  How do we handle these issues? The short answer is prayer.  Cry to God and if you don’t get any answers, keep crying. Not all of you are aware of my heart condition, but having a fragile heart keeps me in tip toe’d condition at all times.  Yes, I do all the cardio stuff diligently but inside me are worries, the what if, the anxiety of another heart attack.  It is a constant battle every minute of my life and especially a few hours after my workout when I can feel a slight sensation in my chest.  When I go to bed, before I pass out, I can hear voices of the enemy telling me that my life is short and that I’d better enjoy my life to the full (meaning-do all the crazy stuff).  Then this bad news of work situation at Samsung Austin, so many crazy ideas being thrown at me. What if I lose my job?  What shall I do?

Honestly, my heart and mind are established,  no depression or anxiety and I don’t have to supplement my brain with extra chemicals to make it balanced. I don’t know what the future holds for me.  I live one day at a time and I constantly keep myself connected to the Lord so when the big storm comes, all I have to say is “Lord, let’s do it together”. But there is one thing I want to share with you today, it feels like I have a protection over me wherever I go.  Take for instance our Florida trip, that >2500 miles and if you ask me, there were a few near misses on the road but somehow, we were kept in a safe passage.  I can’t write all my tiny little victories here but all I know that when the enemy strikes on me or my family, the enemy turn back. (For those close to me, you know all my life struggles)

To some of you that are in a storm, hang in there, cry to God, be in the Word and be encourage.  Try faith if you haven’t yet.  For those that don’t struggle, celebrate but be in the same attitude as if you are in a difficult situation.

Sharepoint Server 2007 Project:
I am on page 197 of Sharepoint Server 2007 Administrator’s Companion book and was able to setup the test server using the outdated Dell Poweredge 1550 rack server. At this point, I haven’t seen a big plus in using the Sharepoint 2007 version instead of just the plain Sharepoint 3.0 built in to W2003. Although, the book mentioned so many additional features that are in the SP2007, I have yet to discover the value of it.  From an admin’s perspective, the Sharepoint  3.0 version is much easier to deploy.  One thing I like with the SP2007 version is the painless setup to SQL2005 backend database and the segmentation of each sites.  Somehow, in the long run, SP2007 is much simpler to maintain.  The only big downside of SP2007 is the additional cost to the clients because SP2007 is not free and when you add the SQL Server 2005 database, the cost will even be higher.

It is 0721 in Round Rock, time for my 12mile bike ride then me an cc are going to church.  CC is driving.

Wisdom During Storm; Day234

Pro 2:5  Then you will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of [our omniscient] God. [Prov. 1:7.]
Pro 2:6  For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Yesterday was a chaotic/confusing/uncertain day for people that works for Samsung Austin.  The management announced yesterday to close Fab1 for a year for retooling and conversion to 300mm (press release). I’ve been with Samsung for 11 years now and I’ve seen the ups and down of the company for so many times and Samsung somehow finds a way to survive.  Closing Fab1 was bad news but a decision to convert it to 300mm is good news.  I am now in Fab2, (the 300mm factory) but when I heard the news, it felt like a big burden/stress fall on me.  My job is not secured and I told my wife and kids to prepare for the worst.  I am in a big storm right now.  There are so many what ifs flowing through my mind. To all my prayer partners, stand the gap for me, I need your prayers.

You might be asking now “what my next move?” My answer is – NOTHING.  I will not do anything yet.  I will wait until the storm passes.  My life backpack is full of contingency plans and it is just a matter of pulling each item one by one as soon as the need arises.  In the meantime, I will continue doing the same thing – be in the Word and in prayer.

I’ve asked this question to some of my friends before and no one seems to get the answer correctly.  “If one wish will be granted to you right now, what will you ask?”  Most of the answers were – money, more money, good health, a good husband, a good wife, a nice job, peace, joy, happiness, a child, my family, power. (1Kings 3-5) King Solomon’s answer was Wisdom, because in Wisdom, he can find money, power, honor, fame etc.

What is Wisdom really in plain English? “When you ask something in prayer, a revelation is given to you and you took a step forward/make decision and the results are positive.” (my 2 cents)

Bad News In the Air; Day233

Isa 54:10  For though the mountains should depart and the hills be shaken or removed, yet My love and kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace and completeness be removed, says the Lord, Who has compassion on you.

On the 11th of August, I wrote about Established Heart and today’s devotional is about another category of dealing with bad news.  Well, today, I received a call from an important person telling me a good news and a bad news.  I have to dig deeper on this bad news.  Maybe stay in my prayer closet for days or maybe go to my secret place for a long time.  Am I afraid? Not really because I know that the Lord is preparing a table for me.  My heart is established and He prophesied this day (today) for the bad news and gave me the Word to hang on.

Conclusion:
Overall, my trip preparation works.  Not too many surprises along the way and plans were smoothly executed.  Will I do it again?  Hmmmm… maybe yes.  I will definitely bring my bike whenever I am on vacation.  I’ve seen great places with my bikes but just did not have the opportunity to take pictures. I love the early morning ride especially when I did not know where to go.  This trip was mostly for the kids and when I browse the pictures, it gave me pleasure that they too enjoyed the short vacation.  You should see the farewell pictures, they were so sad… meaning-they don’t want the vacation to end.

To some who are fascinated by what I do, feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

I have to go, it is 1239h in Round Rock, I have to get back on the bike or else I will have a 3-day rest day.

Crave for God; Day232

2Ch 15:2  And he went out to meet Asa and said to him, Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: the Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him [inquiring for and of Him, craving Him as your soul’s first necessity], He will be found by you; but if you [become indifferent and] forsake Him, He will forsake you.

Replace the name Asa with your own name and read it loud.  Not too many people seek God everyday.  Our days are filled with so many activities that we put God at the lowest priority.  I am guilty on this at times especially when I am on vacation.  There is just too many things to do at hand and we don’t recognize the need for God anymore because all is well and in order.  I have to regroup and regain normalcy again as soon as I notice that I am drifting away.  Thinking God is supposed to be 24/7 so that when the storm comes, you are already in the right mindset and no need for panic.  What happens when we are heading toward a cliff and we are not in communication with God, we hit the brakes and ask for God’s guidance.  In God’s perspective, we should be communicating with Him 24/7 and when we are heading towards a cliff, all we have to say is "”Lord, let’s jump off the cliff together”.  These bad things in life happen when we disobey God’s basic principles by putting ourselves in the wrong place with the wrong people.  By violating the law of the land, ie. doing 85mph on the highway when the speed limit is 65. I’ve seen quite a few accidents on the road lately and I’ve concluded that if we only follow the law of the land, there will be no accidents (maybe less).  Same thing with our day to day problems, if we just follow the basic principles of love and relationship, there won’t be any separation of family.  Of course we don’t know these things especially we are in the midst of the storm. Easier said when we are in not in the storm and not even experiencing difficulties in real time.  But one truth, if we put God first, we cannot go wrong in our decision making.

Key learning:
1. Seek God and not God seek for us
2. If we seek Him, we will find Him
3. Once we find God, He will not forsake us
4. Don’t seek Him, you will be forsaken
