Death Then New Life; Day207

I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the person whose ears are open to My words [who listens to My message] and believes and trusts in and clings to and relies on Him Who sent Me has (possesses now) eternal life. And he does not come into judgment [does not incur sentence of judgment, will not come under condemnation], but he has already passed over out of death into life. Believe Me when I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the time is coming and is here now when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear it shall live. For even as the Father has life in Himself and is self-existent, so He has given to the Son to have life in Himself and be self-existent.  And He has given Him authority and granted Him power to execute (exercise, practice) judgment because He is a Son of man [very man]. Do not be surprised and wonder at this, for the time is coming when all those who are in the tombs shall hear His voice, And they shall come out–those who have practiced doing good [will come out] to the resurrection of [new] life, and those who have done evil will be raised for judgment [raised to meet their sentence]. [Dan. 12:2.] I am able to do nothing from Myself [independently, of My own accord–but only as I am taught by God and as I get His orders]. Even as I hear, I judge [I decide as I am bidden to decide. As the voice comes to Me, so I give a decision], and My judgment is right (just, righteous), because I do not seek or consult My own will [I have no desire to do what is pleasing to Myself, My own aim, My own purpose] but only the will and pleasure of the Father Who sent Me. John 5:24 -30

Same Power; Day206

So Jesus answered them by saying, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way [in His turn].  The Father dearly loves the Son and discloses to (shows) Him everything that He Himself does. And He will disclose to Him (let Him see) greater things yet than these, so that you may marvel and be full of wonder and astonishment.  Just as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life [makes them live on], even so the Son also gives life to whomever He wills and is pleased to give it.   Even the Father judges no one, for He has given all judgment (the last judgment and the whole business of judging) entirely into the hands of the Son,   So that all men may give honor (reverence, homage) to the Son just as they give honor to the Father. [In fact] whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, Who has sent Him. John 5:19 -23

Non Stop Work; Day205

So the Jews kept saying to the man who had been healed, It is the Sabbath, and you have no right to pick up your bed [it is not lawful].  He answered them, The Man Who healed me and gave me back my strength, He Himself said to me, Pick up your bed and walk!  They asked him, Who is the Man Who told you, Pick up your bed and walk? Now the invalid who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had quietly gone away [had passed on unnoticed], since there was a crowd in the place.  Afterward, when Jesus found him in the temple, He said to him, See, you are well! Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.  The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus Who had made him well.  For this reason the Jews began to persecute (annoy, torment) Jesus and sought to kill Him, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.  But Jesus answered them, My Father has worked [even] until now, [He has never ceased working; He is still working] and I, too, must be at [divine] work. This made the Jews more determined than ever to kill Him [to do away with Him]; because He not only was breaking (weakening, violating) the Sabbath, but He actually was speaking of God as being [in a special sense] His own Father, making Himself equal [putting Himself on a level] with God.  John 5:10-18

Get Up and Walk; Day204

LATER ON there was a Jewish festival (feast) for which Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem a pool near the Sheep Gate. This pool in the Hebrew is called Bethesda, having five porches (alcoves, colonnades, doorways). In these lay a great number of sick folk–some blind, some crippled, and some paralyzed (shriveled up)– waiting for the bubbling up of the water.  For an angel of the Lord went down at appointed seasons into the pool and moved and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was cured of whatever disease with which he was afflicted.  There was a certain man there who had suffered with a deep-seated and lingering disorder for thirty-eight years.  When Jesus noticed him lying there [helpless], knowing that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, Do you want to become well? [Are you really in earnest about getting well?]  The invalid answered, Sir, I have nobody when the water is moving to put me into the pool; but while I am trying to come [into it] myself, somebody else steps down ahead of me.   Jesus said to him, Get up! Pick up your bed (sleeping pad) and walk! Instantly the man became well and recovered his strength and picked up his bed and walked. But that happened on the Sabbath. John 5:1-9

His Purpose-Sinners; Day203

[Jesus] went out again along the seashore; and all the multitude kept gathering about Him, and He kept teaching them.  And as He was passing by, He saw Levi (Matthew) son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and He said to him, Follow Me! [Be joined to Me as a disciple, side with My party!] And he arose and joined Him as His disciple and sided with His party and accompanied Him.  And as Jesus, together with His disciples, sat at table in his [Levi’s] house, many tax collectors and persons [definitely stained] with sin were dining with Him, for there were many who walked the same road (followed) with Him.  And the scribes [belonging to the party] of the Pharisees, when they saw that He was eating with [those definitely known to be especially wicked] sinners and tax collectors, said to His disciples, Why does He eat and drink with tax collectors and [notorious] sinners? And when Jesus heard it, He said to them, Those who are strong and well have no need of a physician, but those who are weak and sick; I came not to call the righteous ones to repentance, but sinners (the erring ones and all those not free from sin).  Mar 2:13 -17

AND JESUS having returned to Capernaum, after some days it was rumored about that He was in the house [probably Peter’s].  And so many people gathered together there that there was no longer room [for them], not even around the door; and He was discussing the Word.  Then they came, bringing a paralytic to Him, who had been picked up and was being carried by four men.  And when they could not get him to a place in front of Jesus because of the throng, they dug through the roof above Him; and when they had scooped out an opening, they let down the [thickly padded] quilt or mat upon which the paralyzed man lay.  And when Jesus saw their faith [their confidence in God through Him], He said to the paralyzed man, Son, your sins are forgiven [you] and put away [that is, the penalty is remitted, the sense of guilt removed, and you are made upright and in right standing with God].  Now some of the scribes were sitting there, holding a dialogue with themselves as they questioned in their hearts,  Why does this Man talk like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins [remove guilt, remit the penalty, and bestow righteousness instead] except God alone? And at once Jesus, becoming fully aware in His spirit that they thus debated within themselves, said to them, Why do you argue (debate, reason) about all this in your hearts?  Which is easier: to say to the paralyzed man, Your sins are forgiven and put away, or to say, Rise, take up your sleeping pad or mat, and start walking about [and keep on walking]?  But that you may know positively and beyond a doubt that the Son of Man has right and authority and power on earth to forgive sins–He said to the paralyzed man,  I say to you, arise, pick up and carry your sleeping pad or mat, and be going on home.  And he arose at once and picked up the sleeping pad or mat and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and  recognized and praised and thanked God, saying, We have never seen anything like this before! Willingness to Heal; Day201

While He was in one of the towns, there came a man full of (covered with) leprosy; and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, Lord, if You are willing, You are able to cure me and make me clean.  And [Jesus] reached out His hand and touched him, saying, I am willing; be cleansed! And immediately the leprosy left him.
And [Jesus] charged him to tell no one [that he might chance to meet], until [He said] you go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your purification, as Moses commanded, for a testimony and proof to the people, that they may have evidence [of your healing].  But so much the more the news spread abroad concerning Him, and great crowds kept coming together to hear [Him] and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.  But He Himself withdrew [in retirement] to the wilderness (desert) and prayed.  Luk 5:12 -16

Some Instructions To Follow; Day200

NOW IT occurred that while the people pressed upon Jesus to hear the message of God, He was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret (Sea of Galilee).  And He saw two boats drawn up by the lake, but the fishermen had gone down from them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, [the one] that belonged to Simon (Peter), He requested him to draw away a little from the shore. Then He sat down and continued to teach the crowd [of people] from the boat.  When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon (Peter), Put out into the deep [water], and lower your nets for a haul.   And Simon (Peter) answered, Master, we toiled all night [exhaustingly] and caught nothing [in our nets]. But on the ground of Your word, I will lower the nets [again].  And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish; and as their nets were [at the point of] breaking,  They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and take hold with them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.  But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.  For he was gripped with bewildering amazement [allied to terror], and all who were with him, at the haul of fish which they had made;  And so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon (Peter). And Jesus said to Simon, Have no fear; from now on you will be catching men!  And after they had run their boats on shore, they left everything and  joined Him as His disciples and sided with His party and accompanied Him.  Luke 5:1 -11

And at once He left the synagogue and went into the house of Simon [Peter] and Andrew, accompanied by James and John.  Now Simon’s mother-in-law had for some time been lying sick with a fever, and at once they told Him about her.  And He went up to her and took her by the hand and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she began to wait on them.  Now when it was evening, after the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those under the power of demons,  Until the whole town was gathered together about the door.  And He cured many who were afflicted with various diseases; and He drove out many demons, but would not allow the demons to talk because they knew Him [intuitively].  Mar 1:29 -24

Unclean Spirit; Day198; 22 Years

And they entered into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He went into the synagogue and began to teach.  And they were completely astonished at His teaching, for He was teaching as One Who possessed authority, and not as the scribes.  Just at that time there was in their synagogue a man [who was in the power] of an unclean spirit; and now [immediately] he raised a deep and terrible cry from the depths of his throat, saying,  What have You to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are–the Holy One of God!  And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hush up (be muzzled, gagged), and come out of him!  And the unclean spirit, throwing the man into convulsions and screeching with a loud voice, came out of him.  And they were all so amazed and almost terrified that they kept questioning and demanding one of another, saying, What is this? What new (fresh) teaching! With authority He gives orders even to the unclean spirits and they obey Him!  And immediately rumors concerning Him spread [everywhere] throughout all the region surrounding Galilee.  Mar 1:21 -28

Discipleship; Day197

As He was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He noticed two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, throwing a dragnet into the sea, for they were fishermen.
And He said to them, Come after Me [as disciples–letting Me be your Guide], follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men!   At once they left their nets and became His disciples [sided with His party and followed Him].  And going on further from there He noticed two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets and putting them right; and He called them.  At once they left the boat and their father and joined Jesus as disciples [sided with His party and followed Him].  Mat 4:18 -22

The Mission; Day196

So He came to Nazareth, [that Nazareth] where He had been brought up, and He entered the synagogue, as was His custom on the Sabbath day. And He stood up to read. And there was handed to Him [the roll of] the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened (unrolled) the book and found the place where it was written,   The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity],  To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound]. Then He rolled up the book and gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing [attentively] at Him.  And He began to speak to them: Today this Scripture has been fulfilled while you are present and hearing.  And all spoke well of Him and marveled at the words of grace that came forth from His mouth; and they said, Is not this Joseph’s Son?  So He said to them, You will doubtless quote to Me this proverb: Physician, heal Yourself! What we have learned by hearsay that You did in Capernaum, do here also in Your [own] town.  Then He said, Solemnly I say to you, no prophet is acceptable and welcome in his [own] town (country). But in truth I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heavens were closed up for three years and six months, so that there came a great famine over all the land;  And yet Elijah was not sent to a single one of them, but only to Zarephath in the country of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. [I Kings 17:1, 8-16; 18:1.]
And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and yet not one of them was cleansed [by being healed]–but only Naaman the Syrian. [II Kings 5:1-14.]
When they heard these things, all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage.  And rising up, they pushed and drove Him out of the town, and [laying hold of Him] they led Him to the [projecting] upper part of the hill on which their town was built, that they might hurl Him headlong down [over the cliff].  But passing through their midst, He went on His way.  And He descended to Capernaum, a town of Galilee, and there He continued to teach the people on the Sabbath days.  Luk 4:16 -31

Some Needs Miracles To Believe; Day195

So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son was lying ill in Capernaum.  Having heard that Jesus had come back from Judea into Galilee, he went away to meet Him and began to beg Him to come down and cure his son, for he was lying at the point of death. Then Jesus said to him, Unless you see signs and miracles happen, you [people] never will believe (trust, have faith) at all. The king’s officer pleaded with Him, Sir, do come down at once before my little child is dead!  Jesus answered him, Go in peace; your son will live! And the man put his trust in what Jesus said and started home.  But even as he was on the road going down, his servants met him and reported, saying, Your son lives!  So he asked them at what time he had begun to get better. They said, Yesterday during the seventh hour (about one o’clock in the afternoon) the fever left him. Then the father knew that it was at that very hour when Jesus had said to him, Your son will live. And he and his entire household believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Jesus).  This is the second sign (wonderwork, miracle) that Jesus performed after He had come out of Judea into Galilee. Doing The Will/Team Harvest; Day194; Dream Test

Just then His disciples came and they wondered (were surprised, astonished) to find Him talking with a woman [a married woman]. However, not one of them asked Him, What are You inquiring about? or What do You want? or, Why do You speak with her? Then the woman left her water jar and went away to the town. And she began telling the people, Come, see a Man Who has told me everything that I ever did! Can this be [is not this] the Christ? [Must not this be the Messiah, the Anointed One?]  So the people left the town and set out to go to Him. Meanwhile, the disciples urged Him saying, Rabbi, eat something.  But He assured them, I have food (nourishment) to eat of which you know nothing and have no idea.  So the disciples said one to another, Has someone brought Him something to eat? Jesus said to them, My food (nourishment) is to do the will (pleasure) of Him Who sent Me and to accomplish and completely finish His work. Do you not say, It is still four months until harvest time comes? Look! I tell you, raise your eyes and observe the fields and see how they are already white for harvesting.  Already the reaper is getting his wages [he who does the cutting now has his reward], for he is gathering fruit (crop) unto life eternal, so that he who does the planting and he who does the reaping may rejoice together.  For in this the saying holds true, One sows and another reaps.  I sent you to reap a crop for which you have not toiled. Other men have labored and you have stepped in to reap the results of their work.  Joh 4:27  – 38

The Water We Need; Day193

And in doing so, He arrived at a Samaritan town called Sychar, near the tract of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.  And Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, tired as He was from His journey, sat down [to rest] by the well. It was then about the sixth hour (about noon).
Presently, when a woman of Samaria came along to draw water, Jesus said to her, Give Me a drink– For His disciples had gone off into the town to buy food– The Samaritan woman said to Him, How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan [and a] woman, for a drink?–For the Jews have nothing to do with the Samaritans– Jesus answered her, If you had only known and had recognized God’s gift and Who this is that is saying to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him [instead] and He would have given you living water.  She said to Him, Sir, You have nothing to draw with [no drawing bucket] and the well is deep; how then can You provide living water? [Where do You get Your living water?] Are You greater than and superior to our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well and who used to drink from it himself, and his sons and his cattle also? Jesus answered her, All who drink of this water will be thirsty again. But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life. The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never get thirsty nor have to come [continually all the way] here to draw.  At this, Jesus said to her, Go, call your husband and come back here. The woman answered, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have spoken truly in saying, I have no husband.  For you have had five husbands, and the man you are now living with is not your husband. In this you have spoken truly.  The woman said to Him, Sir, I see and understand that You are a prophet.  Our forefathers worshiped on this mountain, but you [Jews] say that Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary and proper to worship. Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither [merely] in this mountain nor [merely] in Jerusalem. You [Samaritans] do not know what you are worshiping [you worship what you do not comprehend]. We do know what we are worshiping [we worship what we have knowledge of and understand], for [after all] salvation comes from [among] the Jews.  A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers.  God is a Spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality). The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming, He Who is called the Christ (the Anointed One); and when He arrives, He will tell us everything we need to know and make it clear to us.  Jesus said to her, I Who now speak with you am He.  Joh 4:5  – 26

Light and Darkness; Day192

The [basis of the] judgment (indictment, the test by which men are judged, the ground for the sentence) lies in this: the Light has come into the world, and people have loved the darkness rather than and more than the Light, for their works (deeds) were evil. For every wrongdoer hates (loathes, detests) the Light, and will not come out into the Light but shrinks from it, lest his works (his deeds, his activities, his conduct) be exposed and reproved. But he who practices truth [who does what is right] comes out into the Light; so that his works may be plainly shown to be what they are–wrought with God [divinely prompted, done with God’s help, in dependence upon Him].  After this, Jesus and His disciples went into the land (the countryside) of Judea, where He remained with them, and baptized.  Joh 3:19  – 22

Born Again; Day191

NOW THERE was a certain man among the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler (a leader, an authority) among the Jews,  Who came to Jesus at night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know and are certain that You have come from God [as] a Teacher; for no one can do these signs (these wonderworks, these miracles–and produce the proofs) that You do unless God is with him.  Jesus answered him, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to Him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter his mother’s womb again and be born? Jesus answered, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a man is born of water and [even] the Spirit, he cannot [ever] enter the kingdom of God. What is born of [from] the flesh is flesh [of the physical is physical]; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not [do not be surprised, astonished] at My telling you, You must all be born anew (from above).  The wind blows (breathes) where it wills; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered by asking, How can all this be possible? Jesus replied, Are you the teacher of Israel, and yet do not know nor understand these things? [Are they strange to you?]  I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, We speak only of what we know [we know absolutely what we are talking about]; we have actually seen what we are testifying to [we were eyewitnesses of it]. And still you do not receive our testimony [you reject and refuse our evidence–that of Myself and of all those who are born of the Spirit].  If I have told you of things that happen right here on the earth and yet none of you believes Me, how can you believe (trust Me, adhere to Me, rely on Me) if I tell you of heavenly things? And yet no one has ever gone up to heaven, but there is One Who has come down from heaven–the Son of Man [Himself], Who is (dwells, has His home) in heaven.  And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted up [on the cross],  In order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever! For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.  For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him. He who believes in Him [who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him] is not judged [he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgment; for him there is no rejection, no condemnation–he incurs no damnation]; but he who does not believe (cleave to, rely on, trust in Him) is judged already [he has already been convicted and has already received his sentence] because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [He is condemned for refusing to let his trust rest in Christ’s name.]  Joh 3:1   – 18

Temple Sole Purpose; Day190

Now the Passover of the Jews was approaching, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.  There He found in the temple [enclosure] those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting there [also at their stands].  And having made a lash (a whip) of cords, He drove them all out of the temple [enclosure]–both the sheep and the oxen–spilling and scattering the brokers’ money and upsetting and tossing around their trays (their stands).  Then to those who sold the doves He said, Take these things away (out of here)! Make not My Father’s house a house of merchandise (a marketplace, a sales shop)!   And His disciples remembered that it is written [in the Holy Scriptures], Zeal (the fervor of love) for Your house will eat Me up. [I will be consumed with jealousy for the honor of Your house.]  Then the Jews retorted, What sign can You show us, seeing You do these things? [What sign, miracle, token, indication can You give us as evidence that You have authority and are commissioned to act in this way?] Jesus answered them, Destroy (undo) this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again.  Then the Jews replied, It took forty-six years to build this temple (sanctuary), and will You raise it up in three days?  But He had spoken of the temple which was His body.  When therefore He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this. And so they believed and trusted and relied on the Scripture and the word (message) Jesus had spoken. Joh 2:13  – 22

Specific Problem=Miracle; Day189; Back To Normal

ON THE third day there was a wedding at Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited with His disciples to the wedding.  And when the wine was all gone, the mother of Jesus said to Him, They have no more wine! Jesus said to her, [Dear] woman, what is that to you and to Me? [What do we have in common? Leave it to Me.] My time (hour to act) has not yet come. [Eccl. 3:1.]  His mother said to the servants, Whatever He says to you, do it.  Now there were six waterpots of stone standing there, as the Jewish custom of purification (ceremonial washing) demanded, holding twenty to thirty gallons apiece.  Jesus said to them, Fill the waterpots with water. So they filled them up to the brim.  Then He said to them, Draw some out now and take it to the manager of the feast [to the one presiding, the superintendent of the banquet]. So they took him some.  And when the manager tasted the water just now turned into wine, not knowing where it came from–though the servants who had drawn the water knew–he called the bridegroom  And said to him, Everyone else serves his best wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then he serves that which is not so good; but you have kept back the good wine until now!  This, the first of His signs (miracles, wonderworks), Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory [by it He displayed His greatness and His power openly], and His disciples believed in Him [adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Him].  Joh 2:1 -11

Start of Father’s Business; Day182/22; 2011-Fresh Start

Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year to the Passover Feast. And when He was twelve years [old], they went up, as was their custom. And when the Feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. Now His parents did not know this, But, supposing Him to be in the caravan, they traveled on a day’s journey; and [then] they sought Him [diligently, looking up and down for Him] among their kinsfolk and acquaintances. And when they failed to find Him, they went back to Jerusalem, looking for Him [up and down] all the way. After three days they found Him [came upon Him] in the [court of the] temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished and overwhelmed with bewildered wonder at His intelligence and understanding and His replies.  And when they [Joseph and Mary] saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You [distressed and tormented]. And He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business? But they did not comprehend what He was saying to them. And He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was [habitually] obedient to them; and his mother kept and closely and persistently guarded all these things in her heart.  And Jesus increased in wisdom (in broad and full understanding) and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man. 2011 Fresh Start
Just like any long distance swim race, how you start does not determine the outcome  of the race.  I always tell myself these things during the race:
1. Stay behind, there are people that are so eager to go all out in the first 5 minutes, let them run out their energy
2. Stay at the outskirt of the pack, observe the race and enjoy it.
3. Stay at slow pace for 5 minutes and then tempo and build momentum
4. Stay calm, you’ve done this over and over.

In 2011, I will not tweak anything differently.

Been Informed-He is Coming; Day181/21; 2010 Ends

I, Jesus, have sent My messenger (angel) to you to witness and to give you assurance of these things for the churches (assemblies). I am the Root (the Source) and the Offspring of David, the radiant and brilliant Morning Star. [Isa. 11:1, 10.]
The [Holy] Spirit and the bride (the church, the true Christians) say, Come! And let him who is listening say, Come! And let everyone come who is thirsty [who is painfully conscious of his need of those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported, and strengthened]; and whoever [earnestly] desires to do it, let him come, take, appropriate, and drink the water of Life without cost. [Isa. 55:1.]
I [personally solemnly] warn everyone who listens to the statements of the prophecy [the predictions and the consolations and admonitions pertaining to them] in this book: If anyone shall add anything to them, God will add and lay upon him the plagues (the afflictions and the calamities) that are recorded and described in this book.
And if anyone cancels or takes away from the statements of the book of this prophecy [these predictions relating to Christ’s kingdom and its speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions or warnings pertaining to them], God will cancel and take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the city of holiness (purity and hallowedness), which are described and promised in this book.
He Who gives this warning and affirms and testifies to these things says, Yes (it is true). [Surely] I am coming quickly (swiftly, speedily). Amen (so let it be)! Yes, come, Lord Jesus!  Rev 22:16  – 20

#6 – Law of Solid Ground – TRUST [21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell]
Before I left Texas, I brought this book with me and planning to read/study 1 Law/day for 21 days. [I have 27 days to do it].  Because of lack of activities at night and no internet and no tv in my room, I am forced to read.  Glad I did and read 2 Chapters last night to catch up with my objectives. Law #6 really caught my attention – TRUST. I grew up here in Merida and I’ve seen family blossomed to prosperity but when I examined their current state, the family is in disarray and heart broken and low on financial resources.  I don’t normally gossips and when my host start telling me this and telling me that – I normally just change the topic and lead the conversation to a healthy one.  But sometimes I get curious of what happened to a specific couple of whom I know very well and asked this question: Mom, what happen to this family?  My mother always giving me the long answer to the question and after 5 minutes in the story telling, I would end the conversation with a conclusion – the trust was broken.  John Maxwell is right. If you want to succeed in your leadership [a family for example], spend a lifetime building trust and protecting it.  Break the trust – the family enterprise fails.

my Notes on Law #6.
“Trust is the foundation of Leadership”
“Leaders cannot lose trust and continue to influence others”.
“Can’t take shortcuts in leadership – everything is a process”
“How does a leader build trust? By consistently exemplifying Competence, Connection and Character”
“Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without strategy”

On Character Building
1. Model a high character
2. Live your values everyday without fail
3. Make commitment and keep it
4. Go out of your way to personify integrity

Focus on Character
1. Integrity
2. Authenticity
3. Discipline

Hold Fast; Day172/12

Because you have guarded and kept My word of patient endurance [have held fast the lesson of My patience with the expectant endurance that I give you], I also will keep you [safe] from the hour of trial (testing) which is coming on the whole world to try those who dwell upon the earth.  I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one may rob you and deprive you of your crown.  He who overcomes (is victorious), I will make him a pillar in the sanctuary of My God; he shall never be put out of it or go out of it, and I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which descends from My God out of heaven, and My own new name. See! I have set before you a door wide open which no one is able to shut; I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept My Word and guarded My message and have not renounced or denied My name.  Take note! Leadership-What Not To Do; Day168/08; Fine Tuning

But I have this against you: that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess [claiming to be inspired], and who is teaching and leading astray my servants and beguiling them into practicing sexual vice and eating food sacrificed to idols.  I gave her time to repent, but she has no desire to repent of her immorality [symbolic of idolatry] and refuses to do so.   Take note: I will throw her on a bed [of anguish], and those who commit adultery with her [her paramours] I will bring down to pressing distress and severe affliction, unless they turn away their minds from conduct [such as] hers and repent of their doings.   And I will strike her children (her proper followers) dead [thoroughly exterminating them]. And all the assemblies (churches) shall recognize and understand that I am He Who searches minds (the thoughts, feelings, and purposes) and the [inmost] hearts, and I will give to each of you [the reward for what you have done] as your work deserves.  Rev 2:20 -23

Fine Tuning to Merida Lifestyle
I’m still trying to get used to the lifestyle here in my hometown. I lived here since childhood and I know that I loved this place.  When a person leave a place and go somewhere else, one acquires a different perspective. No longer you are satisfied with what you used to have because you had tasted a better life.  I’m talking about the simplicity of life, no AC, no hot shower, no TV, no internet, no WiFi, no personal car.  Me personally, I built a routine in Round Rock of daily cycling and swimming training and I could not execute it here that well due to resources or lack of facilities.  Other things I missed are the normal cycle of food intake of which in the morning, I took only a light breakfast and then Clif bar for lunch.  Here with my mom, the food cycle is like the military chow where meals happens at the precise moment ie. 7:00am breakfast, 11:30am and 0700pm dinner and if I don’t… I think the host will get offended.  So right now, my daily 2000 calorie diet is put on hold.

My wife and kids left for Cebu already [they were here for 2 days] yesterday and been calling/updating me of their activities.  It sounds really fun and I know I will miss a lot of great adventures in Cebu.
I chose to stay here in Merida for a few reasons;
1. To spend quality time with mom
2. To listen the breeze and the waves at pantalan
3. To swim anywhere where there is sea water
4. To meet old friends/relatives
5. To take pictures

If I have to go home today and looked at my objectives above, I think I’ve already done #1,#2,#3,#4,#5

Open Water Swim
In Round Rock, the closest open water swim I’ve done is at Lake Pflugerville but it does not even gets close in comparison to what I have here in Merida.  The shore is only 10 minutes away from home by foot and all I need to bring are my swim goggles and swim cap.  All my gears are Dri-Fit and when I’m done swimming, I normally rinsed it and voila I am ready for the next day.

I have not done much here in terms of household work.  There’s not much to change due the reason that this is not my home anymore.  In my list, there are a lot of little things I can do for my mom’s house but not enthusiastic to do it because it does not really matter.  So with that said, I am a guest here where my main job is sleep, eat and swim.  It can’t be better than that.

SM-Colon via Ayala Fuente
I did not know that there were still things that I have not done in Cebu. I did not really grow up here but I spent a few years in Cebu during my college days and during my 2-year work at General Milling Corporation [GMC] in Lapu-lapu before I moved to the US. I know the places/corners/shortcuts/danger zone etc. really well but things had really changed so much in 10 years – so in short, I considered myself a stranger to this place because during the first few days here, I was still looking/taking pictures to places a normal residence will not do.  Day03 started with a simple 2-mile run/walk to Pardo and back before sunrise.  I had to do it because I was already at “zero cardio” for quite a few days now since I left Texas and I still have a big event in Merida for swimming and some hills to conquer by foot.  Cebu is not really a place for my swim/bike/run program –I won’t be able to train here due to no place availability. The place is just too dangerous [I had 2 major bike accidents here in 1989].  I will have to go to a resort to be able to do those things that I love to do on a daily basis.  That is why during my retirement in the near future, I will probably be staying in Merida making it as my base camp for some projects I had in mind.  Back to my story … So at around 10am, we [me and my sisters – Liliven and Hyades were at Pier4 to purchase Cruise tickets  for Ormoc. [I called it a ‘Cruise’ just to impress Brittney and Brent, honestly in my humble opinion– it feels like you are in a Disney Cruise minus the buffet]. To the residence here, it is just a boat ride from one island to another costing PHP299.00 per person [$7.oo in the US].  Next stop was another trip to S&R for some final shopping then to SM to meet Britta and the kids for lunch and to buy Brent some clothing/shoes for a friends wedding.  After lunch, there was some team confusion of where Rigel will be.  TeamSisters were planning to do some serious time at SM and TeamBritta was planning to go back to Mandaue to met some friends and rather spends time with them than me [I sensed].  I did a quick analysis of the situation and decided that I will not be in either of the group because I will just become a burden to their own agenda for the day.  I felt like I was not needed in both groups so I decided to go on my own.  It took me an hour to make up my mind on what to do – “Walk from SM to Colon via Ayala Fuente”.

On foot, the view of the street in Cebu is different from the passenger seat of a car or from a live TV coverage.  I’ve seen things along the route that melts my heart and almost made me cry.  It took me 1hour and 37minutes [close to 6 Miles at 3.5 mph pace]to reach Gaisano Metro in Colon. The things that I’ve witnessed/learned during the 97-minute walk were priceless.  I came out a different person after the journey.  Maybe one day when you think that your life is filled with problems and failures and you feel like giving up – a 6mile walk in the streets of Cebu is probably your greatest medication.

At the end of the day, I was glad that I took the journey, it was not just a cardio workout – it was mental and spiritual exercise as well.

After Action Review:
A. What went well?
1. I turned a boring/simple day into a life changing event [saw many things I’ve never seen before].
2. I did it! Walked from SM to Colon via Ayala and Fuente [never done this before]
3. Visited Colon Street [this is the New York Time Square version in Cebu, I think]
4. I crossed the pedestrian lane at Colon St/Jones Ave going to Gaisano Metro to remember how it feels when Britta held my left arm for the first time during our first date in 1986. To my wife Britta, I still remembers the electric shock in my whole body when you held my hand that day and even remembered the clothes, hairstyle, 1.5” heel red shoes and your smile. Not being so corny – my feelings were the same today. Wish you were there with me. Yes, yes, I am an emotional person also.
5. I rode a jeepney [a subway train version of mass transportation but in a car, just google “jeepney” if you are curious] from Colon St to Pardo after the long walk.  I was thinking of walking home also but I’ll save that for my next vacation.

Well Rooted Life; Day164/02; My Two Mothers

And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]. Psalm 1:3

Two Mom’s
My mother was born in 1932, yes that was 78 years ago.  She lost her husband 27 years ago [1983] and she retired from her teaching career in 1992 [18 years]. One of my top objectives here while in Cebu is to spend quality time with her.  I lost my father when I was 16 and I was not a good son at that time yet [I think] and plenty of regrets of how I live my life back then.  In October of 2010, I received a bad news from my sisters in Cebu that mom’s kidney is failing and told me that she might need to start kidney dialysis soon because her lab works and nuclear tests were not so good.  I did not know anything about kidney failures and all I know that my dad’s cause of death in 1983 was renal failure [a complication from diabetes].  I did some reading about kidney diseases and found out that the news that I’ve heard were not good.

Fast forward to the present time-today she had her monthly lab works done in the morning and in the afternoon we received the results.  I’m not in the medical field but I can read lower and upper spec limits and me and my sister Hyades were thankful that her #’s were trending up for the good side.  When we went to her doctor [ Dr. German Mayo Jr.] he was astonished by my mom’s progress.  My mom is a trained emotionless person just like me and I could not even see a smile in her face when Dr. Mayo gave her the good news that he will continue the medical treatment through medication and that he will put the dialysis treatment on hold for now.  I think I can go back home to Texas now.  God is really good – as always.

Wait! The great story of day was not that. It’s what my other mom’s action [Britta] that amazed me and how she is being used to make things come to pass today.  After lunch with Amour, Dayline, Hyades, Tootsie, Britta and Biling at Golden ____ .. ground floor SM, my mom needed to rest [her Dr.’s appointment was at 3pm] so we used our hotel room to take a nap but instead me and my mom talked for one straight hour [heart to heart].  It was such a great pleasure to really have a good conversation with someone close to you.  We were just lying down in bed closing our eyes but talking.  The theme of our conversation was “the end of a good life-we are all going there”.  [this is before we got her good lab results].  I don’t celebrate for anything but I am always grateful for the good things that happen in front of my eyes. To Britta, thank you for all the things that you’ve done. [others might be wondering why I have to write a message to my wife, I am staying with my sister’s house in Pardo beginning last night and probably won’t see her for a week because I am leaving for Merida this Wednesday]

Here’s the pictures I took today.

Brittney-18, Mom-78 and Brent-14. In 1992 when Brittney was born, Me and Britta decided to send her to Merida where mommy chit took care of her because Britta was not able to handle the new child due to work and my deployment to South Korea for 1 year.  My mother was also with us in Round Rock to help out with Brent’s arrival in 1996.  I have to keep reminding my kids about what my mom and mama bulak did for them when they were little.  This picture has more story behind it. 1. Mommy Chit’s good lab results
2. Spent time with mother and sisters
3. Watching people opening the balikbayan box [Chadd-many thanks to you]
4. I am spending PHP instead of $. [sisters hesitant when I said “Full Tank” at gas station.]
5. Being at the backseat watching instead of driving.
6. WIFI everywhere. I am able to connect [RDP] to my servers in Round Rock and check.  WIFI speed is decent-It’s like being there.
7. People I met today-papa Jojo, Mama Bulak, Bo, Timothy, Biling,

B. What did not go so well?
1. Day03 of no cardio workout, [I can’t wait for a long distance open water swim at Pantalan this Wednesday]
2. No bagel breakfast and no morning latte [but will adjust, switching to black instant coffee-Nescafe, better than Starbucks]
3. Ineffectiveness of doing things in Cebu due to traffic.
4. S and R, unable to use my Visa because the registered name was not same as me. [Costco/Sam’s version in Cebu]
5. My Cebu driving skills took a while to comeback-ok now.  Imagine not stopping the car until it is close to 6 inches or simply trusting the driver next to you-that he will not hit you sideways.
6. No base camp yet, my stuff are in backpacks and ready to go.  I feel like I am back with my US Army unit, always on the go and don’t know what to expect.  [I love it though]
7. Unable to make contact with friends and classmates due to 1. no phone numbers 2. I have no cell phone or 3. Simply I don’t have friends.  So please, if ever you were a friend of mine before or knows me, leave a message in FB and I will try to arrange a meeting or lunch or dinner or starbucks.

C. What would I do differently?
1. Nothing. Just enjoying being with Cebuano.

Book of Life; Day163/01; First Daylight in Cebu

Thus shall he who conquers (is victorious) be clad in white garments, and I will not erase or blot out his name from the Book of Life; I will acknowledge him [as Mine] and I will confess his name openly before My Father and before His angels. Rev 3:5

First Daylight in Cebu
Me and Vinny arrived at midnight last night and did not see Cebu clearly.  Me and Britta stayed at Radisson Hotel and then in the morning upon getting up at 8th floor, I opened the curtain at our hotel room and saw this view.  I missed this place already and can’t wait to explore.

Sidenote: My wife has a dramatic change of heart. She is serving coffee while I was just writing this entry.  This is also the first time she did this.

Ping-pong table as a mentoring tool

New Personal Rules:
Lately, I’ve been playing ping-pong with Brent almost everyday and almost anytime we have a spare minute available.  Such a pleasure to have a partner handy at the house.  We utilized the ping-pong table as our ‘mental break’ during a serious study or work or reading or homework or anything else that requires concentration.  As we played, we talked [sometimes trash talked on how we play] and there were times also that I was able to mentor him as a father.  Last night, I came up with the following new ‘personal rules’.

1. DIN-Do it now; when you have the opportunity, take it.
2. DIR-Do it right; when you are given the chance, do it correctly at all times
3. DIP-Do it precisely; when you execute a task, strike with precision according to plan
4. DIG-Do it gently; when you are filled with pressure/tension, soften your actions
5. DIS-Do it seriously; when the game is on the line, be serious; don’t get distracted
6. DIH-Do it hard [sometimes]; when you are losing/failing, strike hard
7. DIC-Do it consistently; if what you are facing is so difficult, be consistent
8. DID-Do it differently; when an opponent/problem is not going your way, try a different way.

A Song of Ascents. I WILL lift up my eyes to the hills [around Jerusalem, to sacred Mount Zion and Mount Moriah]–From whence shall my help come? Source of Help
I sometimes wonder how I was able to get by the hardship of life.  There were times that I thought I would not make it through the next day.  I remember the first few days after my bike accident at Mactan bridge that I could not even lie down on my back due to my severe injuries and could not even get a comfortable sleep for days.  Then there was that Ormoc flood in 1991 where I was trapped in flooded city that I have to stay overnight just to witness the destruction. Then there was that separation from my wife when I enlisted in the US Army in 1992 to find a job.  Then there was that hardship at boot camp for 8 weeks that sometimes I wonder if I could make it to the next day. Then next was the hardship tour for 1 year in South Korea near DMZ where all we did was prepare for a war that never happened – the weather was so cold that being out there makes you think “please just get me back inside the tent for a few minutes”. Then there was again another bike accident where two dogs attacked me 20 miles away from home and I crashed hard on a paved road and I was bleeding and had to get home by myself and struggling to pedal home.  Then there was that cardiac event in 2008 which I thought I was finished.

So where does my help comes from?

Constant Transfiguration; Day138/7

And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor and from one degree of glory to another; [for this comes] from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.  2Co 3:18

Constant Transfiguration
There are times that I will go through a season without making a lot of mistakes and normally execute action plans with precision.  There are times that I will stay in perfect health for months and then in a blink of an eye, I will suddenly experience a weird illnesses [ie: cardiac event, fever, bike crashes etc] .  The previous week was like that.  I was a little tired due to my cough and runny nose and I could not do my weekly routines as normal.  Then last Monday, I learned that I was driving with a 2-month expired driver’s license [I did not know until I went for a notary and the lady told me I had an expired driver’s license].  Then yesterday, Brent woke me up at 0620 because he has to be at school by 0630 or the bus will leave him behind – when I backed out Britta’s car, I heard a big thump and then realized that I hit cc’s pickup truck.  She normally parks behind my other truck so I was assuming that her car was not there.

So when things are happening like that, I normally stay put and regroup and rethink.  To me these are not coincidences or an accident.  It is there for a reason and the very reason is for transformation.  To make me a better person. To tell me that I need to slow down or rethink or reroute or redo.

I just wanted to share that to everyone.

Wait Expectantly; Day137/6

Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.  Psa 42:11

Who won?
A co-worker of mine last night before I left shouted “Tonight” and then he  mimic a jab.  I have a few co-workers of Mexican descent at Samsung Austin and believe me they know more information about Manny than myself.  I am not into sports of boxing but I admire Filipinos that make history and I know I will be like Manny when I come to work next week – ‘feeling like I won the match myself’. So this morning, I have to ‘google’ the outcome of the fight and gather some info for conversation purposes [@ the water cooler].  It took me a few clicks when I realized that he indeed won the fight.  I wanted to see the actual fight on video to really find out how he did it.  As I was watching the fight, I felt like Manny was the underdog in size and reach and weight but then able to overcome to win the match.

There are many Filipinos around the world who feel we are the underdog. When I left Cebu for New York, I felt like I was made for success but the moment I landed the country called America, I automatically felt I was the underdog.  I know many of us [Filipinos] feel that way when we go to our respective workplace.  We have  to climb up the corporate ladder the hard way all the time.  Most Americans [or anyone not a Pinoy] does not see why we are so proud of someone from our homeland win a big fight like that.  To all the Pinoys out there, I celebrate with you.

There are many unknown successful Pinoys around the globe that won’t even hit headline.  Maybe you are one of those too.  As I watched last night’s fight in YouTube [few round only], I was able to come up with a few key point why sometimes Pinoy wins – not just in the boxing ring but at the workplace and/or any other aspect in life.

How A Pinoy Takes Gold
1. Energy
– most Filipino I know [the go getter] has plenty of energy, not just physical but also mental and spiritual energy. We fight to the end. [Manny had a lot of it]
2. Consistency – most Filipinos are very consistent. We just keep doing it over and over until we see results. [he keeps jabbing until he hit the target]
3. Patience – we wait patiently no matter what. [he waited sometimes for the right time and then attack]
4. Speed – we do things faster than anyone else [when it was time to be fast – he was fast]
5. Humility – Pinoys are full of it and sometimes I don’t like it because we over do it.
6. Study – we are diligent in our study [not talking about school], in anything we do, we study first. Not sure of how we got that but most Pinoy I know, this is a common denominator. Very diligent in learning.  We read books, manuals, journals/publication etc.  [of course Manny studied all his opponents]

To Britta,
It’s Day04 already since you left. Brent won his match today against the #2 in his tennis team.  We played 5-pt again tonight and he won 5-3 with his trademark Annie shot. I think cc is using my secret strategy in life – persuasion. After my one-on-one talk with her last Wednesday, she became so obedient and respectful. I’ve noticed that when I pass by her room, she is reading a book or doing something other than FB. Last night, she persuasively whispers me “Dad, can my friends come?”.  How can I say no.  So the gang was here watching a movie and guess who came?  You know the answer.

I having a bad cold and cough.  I have to search our stash of meds in the cabinet.  I found
a bottle of guaifenesin prescribed by Dr. Goode for you which expired March of 2010.  I had no other meds so I took it anyway.  I am feeling better now but still congested.

Regards…

Producing Something; Day134/3; Drop in Visitor

When you bear (produce) much fruit, My Father is honored and glorified, and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine.  John 15:8

Drop in visitor
On my way home yesterday, I made a quick detour to visit a close friend in Pflugerville whom I have not seen for weeks.  It is a little bit weird for us not to see each other although we are just 5 miles away from each other. My sole objective was to check on the status of the family.  Well, on the scale of 1-10 [10 being the best], they scored around 8 in the ‘facial expression’ criteria – meaning there were no tears in the eyes and all are smiling [good enough].  I scanned the house for signs of struggles/debris/holes in the wall and nothing was found unusual [unless they were hiding it].  I even found the different color of the wall inside the house and the patio project being completed.  From my perspective, I think the peace treaty is in effect and I am hopeful that this Christmas will be a great holiday.  There were minor problems that I noted though that I think worth mentioning here.  I was a drop in visitor – meaning that I did not told them that I was coming, kinda’ like a surprise visit of the CEO.  I requested a full dinner be served just to check if this family is cooking and eating together, they passed.  I was served with a plate of rice and torta and some Mexican left over dish.  The odd thing was, this family uses “disposable utensils”.  I demanded an explanation and the wife said it was for convenience.  Well, to my eyes, I think it was because they lost all their expensive dinnerware sets due to flying plates during a fight – all broken.  Might be another reason is for safety, plastic plates does not break.  Well, overall, I saw good things and I hope they will keep  it that way.  I will check on them sometime next week and hoping to spy on the kitchen cabinets if they really have expensive dinnerware sets.

Day3 without a real wife but…
My wife arrived in Cebu safely yesterday and cc already complained that mom has been calling home 50 million times.

Good job mom and thanks to the Packet8 line.  You really sounded like you are just at work.  Our conversation lasted for about 7 minutes and I think that is progress.  We normally talk under the 120second mark.  cc did the laundry last night [the usual] and finally able to hunt some left over food in the refrigerator and fed baby boy.  Everything runs normal here except that I am losing 4 straight 5pt-game with Brent in table tennis.  Last night, we played before going to bed and I was beat up left/right with his Annie shot.  I think this guy has a future in tennis. Every time he delivers the Annie shot, he inserted a sarcastic smile with it.

Hey, you don’t have to explain to me all your expenses in Cebu.  My advice though is please just be a smart spender [I know you are].

I lost my voice a little bit due to colds maybe due to the weather change this week.  My breathing is a little bit less than 100% and that is why I have not ride my bike in 3 days.  Maybe today, I will force myself to exercise.

True Abundance; Day132/01; Single Parent

For Your mercy and loving-kindness are great, reaching to the heavens, and Your truth and faithfulness to the clouds. Psa 57:10

Single Parent
Toughest job in the world – being a single parent.  Imagine all the responsibilities to run a family rests on your shoulder and that is why sometimes it pays to share each other’s burden while being together so that when one partner departs, the other one is able to sustain the workload of both.  My wife Britta left today for Cebu while the rest of us will have to wait until the 2nd week of December to start our vacation.  Of course this December  will be filled with new exciting things.  Imagine, we get to spend time with the family on Christmas week in Cebu and Leyte.  To all our friends and family, see you then.

To Britta,
I missed you already. Day01 went easy for us.  Brent had tennis practice today and was picked up by my 2nd in command [cc].  I think I don’t have to cook for a few days since you cooked a lot of food a day ago. I am sure that I can find ways to make something out from your leftovers plus I weigh-in the kids today and they are a little over weight and losing a few pound will not kill them.  Nothing much to report except that cc is showing signs of obedience from my one-on-one talk last night.  Hopefully, she will listen to her in-house special guidance counselor.

Helper; Day131; Nicky/Mawing/Me in One Day

So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.  Rom 8:26

Nicky/Mawing/Me in One Day
Our day started at the house with a small breakfast.  Introduced Nick with my bagel breakfast and a latte. He liked it [I hope] but he has no choice, nothing else in the kitchen and we were heading out to the pool anyway for a 1hour swim training.  He was interested in endurance swimming.  Mawing came in a little later and off we go.  First stop was Clay Madsen Recreation Center to swim for an hour and conducted training session.  Showed a few lessons here and there and I did my 1k brisk pace Tuesday workout.  At the same time during the swim, we had media coverage from Mawing and he took some videos and pictures [more on this later], I still need to censor the pictures.  Next stop was a big breakfast and we needed a place that we can comfortably talked for hours.  We chose IHOP by IH35 and we spent at least 2 hours chatting and trying to get to know each other again.  I never met Nick before because he left SPC when I came to SPC but we shared the same friends because his friends in the elementary became my friends in HS ie: Mawing etc.  [mawing to write more on this]. I just learned that we have some parallel events in life ie. Army, Ormoc flood and faith.  After IHOP, we went back to the house and picked up our gears and proceed to Lakeline Mall to buy some Texas Souvenirs.  Then we went to Mt. Bonnell to adore the beauty of the scenery.  I never been to this place even after living here in the Austin are for more than 14 years.  We can seen the Austin skyline from where we stand and on the east side is the view of Lake Austin.  Such an awesome view.  Next stop was the actual city of Austin.  Again, the place we visited was my first time also, I guess I don’t go out that much. Took lots of pictures but we had one problem, I could not figure out the timer settings for my new D300s so that’s why only 2 of each on the pictures.  I took a lot of shots but I don’t want to overwhelmed you with extras.

Missing Portion-Holy Spirit; Day130; In A Relationship; Nicky/Mawing

To the end that through [their receiving] Christ Jesus, the blessing [promised] to Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, so that we through faith might [all] receive [the realization of] the promise of the [Holy] Spirit.  Gal 3:14

Missing Portion-Holy Spirit
The other day I was creating a list of why people dislike to come to church and in today’s devotion reminded me that I missed one important part – the Holy Spirit.  It’s not enough that we confess that Christ is our King, we must allow ourselves to open our heart and let the Holy Spirit dwells in us.  Once that is done, He has full control of our desires and therefore good and righteous things follow us in everything we do.  We don’t even have to try hard, it will just happen because The Holy Spirit takes control of our thoughts and mind.

In A Relationship
My daughter turned 18 yesterday but she made the day so significant. Here’s why:
1. In her Facebook account, she changed her status “In A Relationship” WOW! [declaring something on BDay]
2. In the morning, I called for a ‘5-minute’ one on one meeting with her [we operate as a corporate team] and asked the truth, the answer “If I was kidding, why would I do that’”. Another WOW!
3. More.. more, We had a scheduled dinner at 7pm, as she arrives home from school at 6pm while in the hallway at the house as we passed by each other, she said “Can he come with us?” Oh, another WOW!  Britta and Bettina [our in-house relationship consultants] were just so shocked.  Just wait for their weekly report in BBN radio baba, it will be broadcast in Looc and Merida exclusively.

I don’t really care too much on these matters.  I think our kids deserve to be free from our control on whatever they may decide in life.  We made mistakes along the way also and in those mistakes, we learned and moved on.  I always remind myself from something I learned long time ago – “Train up a child in the way he should go,  and when he is old he will not depart from it”. Proverbs 22:6 . Our job as parents is to train them for 18 years with all the Godly principles available and show them righteous examples from our life.  After the training, you watch them handle difficult situations and see if what you trained them for is applied accordingly.  We guide them for 18 years and then when DDay comes, we start the “watch and see” phase and make sure they are able to cope life’s challenges.

Nicky/Mawing
We had a small reunion last night as Nicky arrived from New Orleans.  He will be staying with us in Brent’s room.  This is the first time we met, as I joined SPC1983 in High School, he left Ormoc for Don Bosco in Cebu.  One thing weird though is he is the cousin of Ingrid and Ging-ging Tan [my sisters in Christ]. Maybe Ingrid or Ging-ging can explain to me what the Holy Spirit is doing in the midst of all these.

Heart’s Strength; Day129; Extending Circle; Forgot DST

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the Rock and firm Strength of my heart and my Portion forever. Psa 73:26

Extending My Circle Again
Yesterday, I probably added 20 names to my FB account and received 8-acceptances this  morning.  I am sometimes reminded [by my inner me] that I am building walls instead of bridges and so I took an extra effort to send a message to the world that I am in a “bridge building business”.  So please, if I miss anyone, please send me a message.  I am planning to surpass my son’s almost 500 connections.  Please be reminded, I am not on FB 24/7 and my status does not really reflect my real online status as I am using Windows Live Messenger 2011.  Sometimes, other users uses my notebook to print something or just surf and will make my status active.  One message to all my friends, I will probably get the award “most friendly”. [just get to know me].  So please don’t be  a stranger, I need friends too.

Forgot DST
My routines was/is always rock solid and not even a DST changed the order of my day.  My Sunday starts on Saturday night, meaning I have to be in bed by 10pm so that I can have enough sleep in the morning for the hard 10Mile Time Trial on the bike.  I added this activity to supplement the “slacking off on the the weekend malady” that starts off slow.  Well, I got up at 6am  read my Bible and then jump on the bike for a steady pace 10 miles.  Then took a quick shower since I was already late for church then kissed my wife goodbye [she was still sleeping like a log].  When I arrived at the parking lot, it was 90% empty and I know something was wrong.  I pulled my Treo out and there it was “Your Time Was Successfully adjusted to DST”.  Hmmm. what will I do?, I have 1 hour to wait till the 9pm service.  I paused and waited for a minute and then I listened to my heart – just go inside the building and so I did.  To my amazement, the Praise and Worship team was performing a full rehearsal of the songs they were going to sing that morning.  All the chairs were empty and I scanned the area of where to sit and spend my 1 full hour.  I decided to stay right in the middle of the sanctuary as if I was the manager of an audition company and listening to the performer doing their best. It was a great and awesome and Spirit filled 30minute worship.  At 8:30am, the Worship team ended their rehearsals and the church was filled with dead silence and the only people moving were the volunteers that prepares the sanctuary for worship.  Some people were doing a light and sound check but very calmly and imagine I was still in the middle of the sanctuary by myself.  It was an awesome experience to witness an event before an event.  To watch how the church [the people] assembles together in worship and adoration.

So what’s the big deal of me being too early to church?  It was a big deal because I was able to reflect on my previous life – long time ago I did not even have  a desire to come to church for worship and now I just naturally go there and not even a slight burden in my heart to decide not to come to church.  As I waited for another 30 minutes, I wrote in my notebook the following question? Why would some people not come to church? [It took a while to come up with a list but here it is.  I based my list in my own personal experiences over the years and does not necessarily reflect the true reasons from everyone.  Please correct me if I am wrong or maybe you can add your reasons too, I am curious].

Why would some people not come to church?
1. No desires
2. Saturday Schedule
3. Not invited
4. No connections
5. No knowledge
6. Lost faith
7. Mercy/Grace from God
8. Offended by false church
9. No real Church to attend
10. Dead church [the nothing happens after the service]

My reasons?
1. Something to do on Sunday [spiritual stuff]
2. To Praise and Worship and Fellowship with other believers.
3. To learn something new and then share it later
4. To set a good example to my kids that I believed in something and maybe they can start their search too.

I am not imposing my faith on anyone but I want you to do something. When your heart is pounding and a ‘still small voice’ telling you to . Please obey.  Your life will change forever.

Life After; Day128; When I Was 18..

And this is that testimony (that evidence): God gave us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who possesses the Son has that life; he who does not possess the Son of God does not have that life.  I write this to you who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) the name of the Son of God [in the peculiar services and blessings conferred by Him on men], so that you may know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have life, yes, eternal life. 1Jo 5:11 – 13

When I Was 18…
Actually I cannot remember or recollect anything.  I know it was 1984 and I was in CIT, 2 yr. mark. I have not met my wife yet [met her in 1986]. I am pretty sure I was having fun at the Fatima Boarding house with Roel, Elius, Sammy, Sydney, Allan, Eden and Gina [and probably they were praying for us for Christ]. I know those times were great times in terms of the “worldly teenager thing” but I know for sure there were a lot of things that is not worth mentioning here. This post is not about me, sorry I brought you here with the tricky title but this is about what I saw last night in my daughter’s group get together at the house.  I normally mingles with the kids with their friends and play and joke with them. Last night I was just observing and and spying and trying to get to know the cores of each one – ‘kinda like trying to get to know who they really are.  I was impressed with her friends and the way they are.  Overall, thumbs up.  But what caught my eyes was the two “love birds” on the side [B and A] [real initial but denying the id].  I think they are so in love to each other as I can see in their eyes and the way they looked at each other.  It reminded me when I met my wife and the years we were together from then on. Then I ask my myself, will B/A last forever?  Will they be together next year? Will they be married forever? Will they have kids and have a party like this to watch their kids at 18 celebrate?  Can they survive the hardship of marriage?  These question will be answered in the coming years so I guess I have a project to watch.  The reason why I paid attention on this matter is – I witnessed so many “love birds” like that, childhood sweethearts that are so in love to each other but add years to that relationship plus kids and the outcome is DISASTER.  I have close friends that has been so in love with each other but then I have to counsel them because they could not stand together anymore. So sad that those great old times are gone and they can’t go back to where it was.  When me and Britta disagrees, I normally just go back to the the night where we talked on board the cruise ship from Ormoc to Cebu for 5 hours and those disagreement disappears.

So to B/A, please hang around with each other because I will be observing you every year.

Table Tennis Report:
Brent still in the lead 4-3. We played a match last night and the game was so close that we decided a draw and stopped the game. Will meet up again tonight to start another match. I tried varying my serve from a fast ball to a backhand spin serve to no avail.  Will change strategy tonight with just to playing defense.

I just realized that anything you played in competition level makes you feel so uncomfortable that you lose your acquired skills.  Controlling your emotions in a game is the key.  Zeroing the mind – no mind is the ultimate goal.  Play with “not minding” anything but the act at the present moment.
