Part of my new project for 2013 is to develop new brain cells. When I reviewed my 2012 objectives this week, I found out that my routines need to evolve. So in the past few days, I’ve embarked in a new journey.
Here’s a few in my list:
1. Resume running in 2013. [note: I’ve already started]
I deleted my running training in 2012 due to my intense swim/bike training. Being a cardiac patient, I feel that the long distance swimming and cycling are already enough. At this point, those two activities does not bother me anymore and I needed a new challenge. I used to run in Army as part of the physical fitness program. Now I will train my body to run again. We will see if I will be able to survive the adjustment period.
2. Add Medical Journal Reading in 2013
I’m not in the medical field. I work on computers both hardware and software. My work at Samsung deals with fixing technical problems-all sort. At home, I’m engaged on my own Windows server, ham radio, networking, music studio, photography. I’d like to know more about my body and its underlying functions, conditions, disorders and treatment. I’ve found two good sources:
a. iTriage
b. Medscape
Tools:
a. iPhone
b. Internet
3. Master Sharepoint 2013 in 2013
At work, we deployed Sharepoint 3.0 from scratch and almost know every aspect of the software. When SP2010 was released, I had it running at home but never really dig deeper than the normal functions. In 2013, I will attempt to master this software from deployment, maintaining and developing.
Tools:
1. Poweredge 2850
2. IBM346
3. Windows Server 2012
4. SQL Server 2012
5. Sharepoint 2013
I think 3 things is enough to stir up my year 2013. Now back to the main subject of this post-Adjustment Disorder. Many of us are familiar of the 5 Stages of Grief – Denial, Anger, Depression, Bargaining and Acceptance [Kubler-Ross Model] . Honestly, it has always been my response to any bad situation to just go straight to the “Acceptance Stage”. There is no need to dwell on Stages 1-4 because whether we like it or not, we are going to Stage 5 eventually. Now, not all of us are like me. I can tell this to myself – “Go to Stage of Acceptance immediately” because I condition my mind to do just that. But for other individuals, they must go through all the 5 stages to get over the stages of grief. So how are you going to do that? Well, the short answer is …
a. persuade them to keep going
b. tell them not to quit
c. counsel
d. be with them
e. help them in every way
I like the iTriage treatment – Talk Therapy, it is simple. Sooner, you and I will be over the adjustment period.
It’s your turn. Find something that you’ve never done before or something you’ve started but failed to finish. Do it and try to survive until it becomes a part of your daily life and just Year2013.
Some ideas:
1. Learn one thing new every day.
2. Think of NOW, not the past or the future
3. Talk less, Listen more
4. Filter what is going inside your life.
5. Try prayer. Ask God “What is it…?” or “How do I…"?”
