Notes-VisualMeeting

Being a technical person and a pure problem solver at work, I made it clear to my peers and boss that I don’t like to attend meetings.  If you want to discuss something with me, you need to drop by at my cube and I will give you my undivided attention.  My line of work has evolved lately and I have to spend more time in the carpet [this is what my factory peers choose to call the people in the cubicle – carpet worker or armchair quarterback] . Being in the carpet, we are always called for meetings for just about anything that comes up in our department.  If a hard problem arises, they call for a meeting.  If a mouse is trapped in the cabinet, they call for a meeting. [I’m just kidding] .There is also a daily morning meeting at 0750 which is better now due to the carefully planned agenda.  But sometimes, this morning meeting can also suffer from the syndrome called “meeting bounce” where a topic on the table is not part of the main agenda.  This ‘”meeting bounce” syndrome can be hard to stop sometimes especially when the bouncer are your superiors.

This weekend, I wanted to learn more about improving the way we hold meetings and did some search on the web of a good book to educate me.  I ended up with Visual Meetings by Sibbet.  I took some notes but you really have to read the book yourself to get the full dosage of learning.  Such a good read and lots of illustration as the book implied – Visual.
