Guard Instead of Closed

I stopped writing on this journal for over a month. I intentionally leave my phone in the office room when I’m at home so that I won’t be able to know who calls. I delete my email as soon as I glanced the contents. I ignore any social media interaction of all sort. I intensified my daily Bible reading and concentrated reading one book at a time. I stopped listening to Spotify to keep my focus to the task at hand. I stopped talking when the conversation has no purpose and stay in my little corner doing one thing at a time and accomplishing things objectively. I listen to the rushing wind when I ride my bike every Saturday. I can even feel the tiny rocks popping sound when I accidentally ran over them. When I swim, I can hear the water splashing inside my ears and at the same time feel the splash of water touching my hands as I execute my meditative long distance swimming. On my subsurface swim, I can also feel my heart struggling to pump blood to my entire body as I hold my breath for 25 seconds until I reached at the end of the pool. On family matters, when my 17 years old son who will graduate high school next week asked my permission to go out at night, my response is “enjoy, be responsible” and I don’t even demand a time of return. Also, when I saw his debit card falls below the set limit, I put money to his account and never asked for explanation. At work, when my superiors assigned me with difficult tasks, my reaction was “yes, I will be glad to take the responsibility”. Even with the heavy responsibilities, I was able to keep focus on important things and never flinched a bit with worry and anxiety.

What I was doing was I am “practicing freedom”. Freedom from attachment to anything and doing so made me feel free also. Not that I don’t care but I just reprogrammed my mind to react that each stimulus is just nothing but a stimulus. I have a choice to embrace it or reject it. I can’t fully describe in words but it was something different. It feels like I was floating in space and no force was pushing me in any direction.

But…today after 30 days away from writing and sharing…

When I looked at my wordpress stats, people are still visiting my journal regularly. I was expecting zero visitor but people keeps coming everyday even if I did not write anything for 30 days. I was planning to let go of my wide open life and go to the highest mountain of invisibility.

To do that, I will be disobedient and that is why I’ve decided that I have to somehow find a way to share my life to the world. Not to gain glory and stats but to at least share my experiences and thoughts so others may know and learn.

What I will do now is maintain invisibility but commit sharing of ideas and thoughts that might influence anyone for the greater good of humanity.

Your experiment today:

1. Learn to ignore things in your life that does not matter to your overall well being. Delete it/them.

2. Focus to do one thing at time.

3. Start a task and finish it. Don’t start if you cannot finish. Ex. If you are drinking a cup of coffee, go to the sink and wash the cup and get it ready for the next serving.

Ok, I gotta go. 43 miles bike ride is next. I’ve finished this journal entry already. Oh, I still have to wash my coffee cup ;-0.

2013 Objectives [not Resolutions]

Resolution or Objectives?

Definition:
Resolution-A decision to do something or to behave in a certain manner
ObjectiveThe goal intended to be attained (and which is believed to be attainable)

I called my list as Objectives [not resolutions] – meaning – that these are just my intentions for 2013.  I am not really deciding by heart that I will really do it, so no pressure on my part.  I’ve done this last year also and the outcome was very positive.  Another concept about “objectives” is “segmentation” from TRIZ40 .  By diving the whole into smaller parts, the task become easily manageable and therefore easier to attain.  During wartime, in order for a nation to win the war, a nation must win smaller battles.  To win smaller battles, soldiers need to attain objectives.  Those objectives are smaller/simpler tasks generated from the highest level of the chain of command ie. capture the hill, secure the bridge, establish presence or build a support depot or establish a landing zone etc.

If we apply the same principle to our lives using smaller objectives-anything is possible.

Why don’t you try it.
