Did we invent God?

“This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him.” 1 John 4:9 ERV

At the church yesterday, in front of me was a 6 years old boy with his mother. During the praise and worship part of the service where we sing songs, clap our hands and raise our hands towards heaven, I had a short lesson regarding “beliefs”. In my mind, I was asking how can this little boy expresses worship from the bottom of his heart? How can he know God at such an early age? How come he is able to clap his hand so freely and sing joyful songs as much as the other people beside him do? I was just so amazed by his actions because I know that when I was his age, I did not do that. Did we just invent God and then through examples, bible studies, storytelling and nurturing, conditions our children to believe what we adults think about God? Or was his gesture genuine and it did really comes from his own beliefs and not from his mother.

We learn and come to know God because someone in someways somewhere told us so and we believed.

In the most basic sense, that is how we learn about something… and then we believed it.

Many scientists nowadays has more resources to use at their own disposal to explain our beliefs in God. They discovered amazing theories that explains how things come into being and it’s interconnection to something called faith. Some had came out with published materials exposing our invention of God in our minds.

I cannot explain my faith. When someone told me that God loved me, it just so happen that I latched on to the idea but then things around me started to change. So I decided, God must be there and all I have to do is keep believing in Him daily and so far all I got are all positive things. Why would I not believe in God?

Why not?

Standard of Living-2 Sides

“People who work for peace in a peaceful way get the blessings that come from right living.” James 3:18 ERV

Standard of Living-2 Sides

Is there a standard of living imposed to man? Are we really bound to do something a certain way? Who said this is normal? What is normal? What is righteous? What is the right way and what is the wrong way? Is insulting people a righteous action? Is hurting a spouse or a friend a normal thing to do? Is my lustful thinking abnormal? Is looking at beautiful objects and adoring them normal? Is drinking alcohol normal? Is my gossiping normal? Is telling a lie abnormal? Is my obsession normal? Is my anxiety and depression normal? Is my anger normal ? Is going to church normal? Is praying normal? Is praising and worshiping God normal? Is blogging normal? Is telling my life story normal?

Who draws the normal line?

When I engaged in a deep conversation with a friend, I’m always asked “what is normal and where do you get it?” Is there such thing as “normal”?

[I don’t engage in debates of moral and ethical standard. I normally just leave it hanging and then let my life speaks for itself.]

Then comes next week, he comes back with a story of failure, misfortune, unnecessary loss, an issue with the spouse, problems, fights, arguments financial mistakes etc.

Digging deeper to the issue, I will find truths why the event occurred. The misfortune happened as a consequence of not doing the right thing. Subconsciously, we carry thoughts that are out of the norm and then we come into a situation and we respond the wrong way. Our response to the event produces something unpleasant.

The world is filled with laws. Speed limit for example is there to provide safety to the public. Violate the law and you are in trouble. But life is more than just speed limits. There is always a fine line drawn towards perfection. It will always be there. So what is the secret?

There is no secret.

I have a Christian belief deep down in my soul. I read and study the Bible daily. But what about those people that don’t know Christianity? How would they know that there is a Christian standard and it is coming from the book called the Bible? Does the standard applies to them? Can I just say “hey, I did not know that”. Will that excuse me from following and doing the right thing?

The truth is there is a hidden standard. Some call it a “code of ethics”, moral values, Biblical beliefs etc.

You have to have one or else life will be chaotic or each day you will be tossed like a flotation device in the middle of the ocean and no specific direction.

Follow those standards and you will not any negative consequences – they call it in simple terms “Blessings”.

What is blessing?

Blessing by definition is “a desirable state”. Do you want it? It is all up to you.

Verbal Output Anomaly-Cure

“We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people who were created in God’s likeness. These praises and curses come from the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, this should not happen.” James 3:9, 10 ERV

As normal human beings, sometimes we open our mouth and express a totally out of the line statement and then later on we recognize that “Oh, I’m not suppose to say that”. The same thing with writing or even visual gesture. There is a person deep in us that needed some taming/training/subduing. The bad news is that we cannot do that on our own. The good news is, there is a way to do it.

1. Establish your belief system.
2. Practice your belief system openly.
3. Do it 24/7 if possible.
4. Pray
5. Praise

Presence of the Holy Spirit

“No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us. If we love each other, God’s love has reached its goal—it is made perfect in us. We know that we live in God and God lives in us. We know this because he gave us his Spirit.” 1 John 4:12, 13 ERV

Scientists are trying to explain the presence of God or make sense of extraordinary things that happen to the faithful. In some ways, their explanation s are “almost” correct, but something is missing – the personal experience – the things we personally feel and experienced. Even myself will always come to the conclusion that He must be there somewhere. Sometimes I question the situation but most often I know He is real.

I never understood my transformation to a new life until the Holy Spirit came. Things just changed dramatically. Habits are now refined and polished and well in obedience with the Word. Mind is well at peace and emotion are well in check.

I can’t explain His presence fully and I know why, He wants you to experience His presence yourself.

To those who come in contact with me in person or through this blog, I encourage you to keep your heart open. Try something different. It’s not places, material things, fame, nor power – it’s the presence of the Spirit that will fill your empty cup.

Be Aware of Temptations But…

Hebrews 4:15 ERV

Be aware of temptations but don’t give in.

Our responses to an invitation to cross the line between good and bad is a conscious decision we make. Although it might look like it is an auto pilot response, we do have at least 1 second to say yes or no and it is always our own choice. Someone wrote that decisions in life is very simple-it is either 1 or 0 like in the computer language; yes or a no, turn to the left or right, proceed or don’t, call or do not call, talk or do not talk, stay or go, engage or ignore, read or do not read, view or do not view, watch or do not watch, write or delete, yell or stay calm.

But how would you know when to use 1 or 0?

The simple answer lies in your belief system. What is your moral code based of. You have to have a set of life principle to follow. Pick a good and descent principles to live by and these 1’s and 0’s in life isn’t that complicated to execute.

Motive Matters
“Motive-The psychological feature that arouse an organism to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives purpose and direction to behavior.”

A few years ago, my actions were interpreted as ungodly. The incident reminded me of how brutal misconception is. When a person interprets your action as negative or wrong, they start thinking- oh he must be this or that, or he is …., it is called “labeling”, one of the psychological self defeating belief. This belief if left unchecked or unproven most often leads to a greater damage.

There are deeper reasons why I do what I do and sometimes simple human beings outside my circle are unable to fathom the reasoning. Even my own family sometimes is unable to crack the code of why I do the things I do.

How do I select my next action?
1. If the action can benefit others.
2. If the action can glorify the Father.
3. If the action can be learned.
4. If the action can enhance the body, mind and spirit.
5. If the action can uplift someone.
6. If the action can produce a peace of mind.
7. If the action can build endurance and patience.

God can…
I’m trying to find answers why sometimes I experienced impossible circumstances in my life and every time, I came empty handed. Last week a co-worker saw my fried chicken in my lunch plate and automatically declared that I violated my cardiac diet. I told him that I am in >1000 days after stent#2 and left the statement hanging.

When we believe on something, I think that we must also take a step towards faith even deeper by just saying “God can …”

God can heal my heart.
God can protect me.
God can protect my wife and family.
God can give me wisdom at work.
God can heal my broken relationship.
God can heal my mind.
God can help me find a job.
God can provide me a lifetime partner.
God can extend my arms to reach out.
God can use me in a special way.
God can …

Day975; Dream-Tsunami in Merida, Bee

Book-Destined to Reign
Author: Joseph Prince
ISBN: 10:1-57794-932-3
No. of Pages: 307
No. of Chapters: 22

DREAM: #1 – Tsunami in Merida
Merida, my home town in the Philippines was hit by a tsunami.  I saw how the tide pulled back from the shore in a minute or so when a big tsunami came to town and flooded the whole town.  I told everyone to run for the hill.  There were a few survivors mostly teenagers and I started calling out names to see if they all survived.  After the tsunami, the town was submerged at roof level and only the hill is inhabitable.  The water was so calm and clear like a mirror.  I was overlooking the whole town from the top of the hill and there was no chaos visible and it appeared that everything was normal minus the water level which reaches to the roof.

DREAM: #2 Helping and Comforting Bee
I met an old friend [Bee]. She was in a classroom and needed some help to communicate with someone.  Mary Ann M. was there also and felt reluctant about my help to Bee.  I gave my phone to Bee to be able to call somebody and she end up using my phone listening to music.  I called the phone that I gave her and she was puzzled why my name appeared on the caller id.  The dream ended with Bee finally settled and at peace.

Day971: Dreams

DREAM:
A pregnant child Zebra2 jump off from a building unscathed.  I have to counsel her.

I was with MA preparing for a trip when an ambulance dragging her sister in a surfboard and she was dropped off in a huge parking lot and we have to take her to the ER.  I took my pickup truck to take her to the ER but she just hopped in the back of the truck like nothing happens.  As I was putting the luggage to the back of the truck, MA instructed me to be careful with his luggage since there were fragile items inside. When I placed his luggage the other way, he reminded me again.

I was in a big university and walked through a big hallway.  I was looking for an exit but end up with a huge double door with no sign of an exit.  I opened the door and saw MS and he shhhhs me because they were in a group meeting with a lot of people and the speaker was talking.  I slowly closed the door and left.

I was walking in a street without a shirt but had my black emergency backup on my back.  I saw 2 college roommates when I went into a very small tunnel which at first impossible to get through.  I went into the tunnel and  I was able to get through the tunnel just enough to crawl with my backpack.

Day962; Dream

DREAM: Our neighbor’s house was remodeled.  The workers stripped everything in the house and the only remaining items were the frame of the house.  The house framing was extended to double the area of the house.  The look of the house was totally different and I cannot even notice the resemblance of the old house.  The driveway was empty and there were no homeowners around.  When I walked towards the backyard of my house, I noticed that the neighbor’s wood patio extended way beyond to my side of the fence line.  The wood patio was sitting right close to my own backyard patio.  There was a woman who was at the backyard watching the workers and I was going to ask her about the patio but I did not; I just left the patio like it is.  I was not sure if she was the owner or not.

neighbor’s house-?
remodeling-?
unfinished house but in progress-?
extended/expanded house-?
over extended neighbor’s patio-?

Day958; 143×1,000,000,000; Dream

Dream: I was at work at Bay43 and was walking towards Bay42 when I saw that the whole Bay42 was empty.  I saw Joven just doing nothing in the empty Bay and I asked him what happened to all the new installed equipment.  He replied “The want us to Read and Understand”. Near Joven was an open tile with a Korean lady underneath the open tile staring at me.

Today was a historic day for a new project at work.

To my loving wife, 143×1,000,000,000

Loneliness: Look Up To God; Day953

We are still alive because the Lord’s faithful love never ends. Every morning he shows it in new ways! You are so very true and loyal! I say to myself, “The Lord is my God, and I trust him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him. He is good to those who look for him.

DREAM:
I was walking in a newly built highway in the middle of a thick forest.  The trees were freshly cut and people were still clearing the tall grass and cutting limbs of the trees.  I have to find a safe walkway around the pile of cut trees to get to my destination. After a long walk, I arrived in a nice park and was told that the activity will start soon [activity was not mentioned].  At the park, there was a van parked beside the building filled with all sorts of celebration cake.  There were so many trays of cake inside the van and people were playfully just throwing away pieces of cake to each other.  It was a very chaotic cake throwing activity and I kept yelling to people not to hit me with the flying pieces of cake because I was wearing a dark blue shirt and I  just don’t want any stains in my shirt.  At the end of the messy cake throwing celebration, they unloaded the van with more untouched trays of cake and just placed the excess whole piece of cake in the sidewalk.

Depression: Overflowing Hope, Joy and Peace; Day947

Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us. Those things were written so that we could have hope. That hope comes from the patience and encouragement that the Scriptures give us.

I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15 ERV

image

Today is the last day of my Bible study about depression. I do hope that the things I posted here had enlightened you in some ways.  I purposely did not make comments regarding the verses mentioned except for the title because I want you to see the Word of God from your own perspective.

I understand that depression or any mental illness is not a simple matter.  There is no magic pill available that can make the “monster in our head” go away.  But I have some good news for you, there is a true medicine out there that when taken seriously will magically eradicate any form of “unsoundness of the mind” and will replace it with hope, joy and peace.  I am not in the position of teaching you, but my experience with the medicine was real and I know that it will work for you too.  Please be open minded. You have nothing to lose.

I think most of us suffer from all sorts of mental disorder [mild or severe] [Transforming the Mind Notes p3]

We worry, we become scared, we obsess, we want our own ways, we want to win, we want to be the best, we want our ways, we want to be recognized, we want to be at the top, we don’t want to be put down, we don’t want to be the last person, we want to rule over people, we want to dominate, we want to have all the awards pointed/given to us, we want to be honored, we want to be the center of attention, we criticize, we complain, we compete, we compare, we generalize, we magnify situation, we predict the future, we raise the bar of perfection and we want others to be in lined to our standard and most of all we are not contented of what is given to us.

Last night, a person close to me [ Zebra2 ] told me that she is having a hard time dealing with her roommates and life in general.  I did not know the depths of her statement but I told her to tell me everything.  She hesitated at first but then later opened up.  She told me that she thinks she has anxiety and OCD.  I told her to give me an example of how she diagnosed herself.  To make the long story short… her examples fits to what she described as anxiety and OCD.  She was right.  She even told me that she needed to take an anger management class.  After an hour or so of deep conversation and mostly listening on my part, I realized that I need to do something more.  I trained and mentored this person so closely and I know that I gave her all the “life training’ she needed before she embarked on the journey of her own.  I shared to her about the insights of my faith and how I became what I am now but I did not fully disclosed everything because I know she just needed someone to listen to her.  I told her that I will help her go through her ordeal.  To Zebra2, please read.

As I was reading the devotional today [Romans 15], the idea of the cup of depression came to mind. The content of the cup was being transformed into hope, joy  and peace and were overflowing after having the Hope of Christ being poured into the cup.  Many of you probably are asking what am I talking about?  The picture mentioned above illustrates how a cup being filled with depression can be transformed to a cup filled with hope, joy and peace.  The medicine is the Hope of Christ.

My journey to the “overflowing cup” did not happen overnight.  Many years ago, I’ve tried Aikido, cycling, swimming, running, meditation, psychology books, self help books, mastered self discipline. I’ve tried friendship, relationship and company of people and solitude at times.  I’ve tried burying myself with work and trying to keep myself busy.  My life was empty as if there is something missing and I did not know what it was at that time. Nothing works.

But then things changed dramatically when I encountered Christ.  It was like being able to solve a huge jigsaw puzzle and when I placed the missing piece, the whole picture of my life showed up in one piece and the transformation started. From then on, I know I was in for a long journey of hope.   It was a process and I know it took several years for me to get my cup to an overflowing state.  At times, it was very low and I never thought it will never work.  But through the years with persistence and faithfulness of the Word of God, my cup started overflowing.   I am not going to tell you a detailed description of how you are going to transform your life, it is all up to you.  I want you to figure it out yourself so that your journey will be more meaningful in the end when you tell your own story. Each of us live differently, we have different jobs, family, friends, physical capability, situations and problems but the pattern of blessings and enlightenment leads only to one road- which is hope, joy and peace.  There is hope for your ordeal.

Short version to recovery:
1. Be born again.
2. Read and Study the Bible everyday [I recommend YOUVERSION – https://www.youversion.com/ ] they have reading plans. Download the app. Each morning, read a passage and meditate before you get out of bed.
3. Live/Apply the Bible Way of Life [if the Bible says Trust for example, then apply it to your life.]
4. Search for a Spirit filled church
5. Listen to Praise and Worship Music only. If you have access to Spotify, search for Hillsong Live
6. Learn to sing a song from your heart in Worship. [use tuneWiki in Spotify to sing along]

Before you go, I want you to view a glimpse of worship with the video called “God is Able”.  You will be delighted.  At minute 39, “The Awakening” is the song that I want you to listen.  I truly believe that when our soul is being awakened by the Spirit of God, those symptoms of having an “unsound mind” will not have a place in us.

Take courage – try something new!

DEPRSSION IN 7 DAYS:
Day01-Question to ask?

Why am I so sad?
Why am I so upset?
I tell myself, “Wait for God’s help! You will again be able to praise him, your God, the one who will save you.”
In my sadness I say, “I will remember you from here on this small hill, where Mount Hermon and the Jordan River meet.”
Psalms 42 ERV

Day02-What to do first?
Pray to the Lord, and he will hear you. He will save you from all your troubles. The Lord is close to those who have suffered disappointment. He saves those who are discouraged. Good people might have many problems, but the Lord will take them all away.
Psalms 34 ERV

Day03-Who can help?
I called to the Lord, and he heard me. He heard my cries. He lifted me out of the grave. He lifted me from that muddy place. He picked me up, put me on solid ground, and kept my feet from slipping. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see what he did and worship him. They will put their trust in the Lord.
Psalms 40 ERV

Day04-Your situation is not hopeless.
Lord my God, I prayed to you, and you healed me. Lord, you lifted me out of the grave. I was falling into the place of death, but you saved my life. Praise the Lord, you who are loyal to him! Praise his holy name!  His anger lasts for a little while, but then his kindness brings life. The night may be filled with tears, but in the morning we can sing for joy!
Psalms 30 ERV

Day05-The Helper
“I have told you all these things while I am with you. But the Helper will teach you everything and cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name. “I leave you peace. It is my own peace I give you. I give you peace in a different way than the world does. So don’t be troubled. Don’t be afraid.
John 14 ERV

Day06- Constant Companion
Don’t worry—I am with you. Don’t be afraid—I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will support you with my right hand that brings victory. I am the Lord your God, who holds your right hand. And I tell you, ‘Don’t be afraid! I will help you.
Isaiah 41 ERV

Day07-Overflowing Hope, Joy And Peace
Everything that was written in the past was written to teach us. Those things were written so that we could have hope. That hope comes from the patience and encouragement that the Scriptures give us.

I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15 ERV

DREAM:

I decided to give up everything in my present life.  I packed my clothes in one Army duffel bug and left home.  There was no reason.  There was no motivation.  I just left the comfort of my home, the financial safety of my job and all the things I’ve acquired in my entire life.  All I have with me were clothes.

I had my appointment with my cardiologist today to follow up with the results of my blood works and stress test analysis.  The meeting did not take long because there was nothing to discuss.  I passed the stress test and my lipid panel was in good shape.  My ejection fraction was >60 [45 during my MI] .  I asked if I can go all out in my workout and he told me to go ahead and do the hardest effort that I can achieve but listen to my body well.  For the past 2 years, I had been so conservative regarding my physical exertion on the bike and the swim in terms of maximum heart rate.  Today at the pool, I tested myself to highest physical exertion and no chest pains.

Even with the good news today from my doctor, I’m still feeling that my expiration date is coming and I will treat each day as if it is my last. I am grateful to God to all the assurances that I received today.  I know He healed me.

For some of you that are following this journal, I want to encourage you to take care of your health.

2. Think twice before you commit a food crime, don’t do it regularly.

Saturday night, I was wondering what will be the next thing that I want to do after reading the book-Purpose Driven Life for 40 days.  In those 40 days, I  intentionally deprived myself from anything that gives comfort.  In the first few days, I noticed a gradual change in me.  I became sensitive to other people’s needs.  When they speak to me, I can hear their heart, I can feel what they think and I can really empathize with them. In the US, we live in abundance of almost everything. Name it and a nearby grocery store has it.  You swipe your card at the counter and there you are carrying a boat load of provision that can probably feed a whole village in the third world country. But then if you examine the lives of the people around here, you can sense that they are experiencing more hurt than anyone else in the world.  They might have food in the table, a car to drive and a nice house to come home to but if you go in depth with their lives, you can see chaos and lack of peace, turmoil, jealousy, envy, anger and discontentment..

I live in great abundance at home, no doubt about it. but at the age of 46, I want to do something different in my life or I want to think differently and I do not know where to start.  Maybe this exercise of “little sacrifice” can enlighten me to a new direction.

BRENT FIRST MILE – SOLO
In 1903, Orville Wright piloted the first powered airplane that lasted in 12 seconds.  He covered a distance of 120 feet as the plane climbs 20 feet above the ground.

There is no comparison here as to what the Wright brothers experienced in 1903.  I just want to make a point here that to us – Me, Britta and Brittney – it feels like this guy was taking off in an airplane for the first time and we don’t know if he is going to make it.  Well, he did not go that far today.  He was just dropping off a Christmas gift to a friend in a nearby neighborhood.  He only accumulated at least 6 miles of neighborhood street [it does not count as an actual flight].

There is always a “first time” for everything and today is the first time Brent was on his own – operating a vehicle without an adult supervision with only 6 Months of training.  He is only 16 and it seems like he is still a baby to us.  As a parent, there is only a few things that we can do to prepare our kids for real life experiences.  Yes, we can lecture them how to do things, we can teach them how to react in a certain situation.  Sometimes we share them our hard earned life lessons that sometimes appear to be a minor learning but then contributed to a bigger outcome later on. No, we cannot give them everything we know.  They have to do things themselves and venture the land on their own.  As a swimmer, I’ve always encourage people just to jump in the water and see if you will make it to the other side of the pool.  Sometimes life is like that.  We take the first step alone and the rest is history.

To Brent, I hope that you have acquired enough experiences to manage any situation on your own. Enjoy the rest of the lonely roads on your own.

1460 DAYS
Today marks year#4 since my MI [view my Year#3 Journal] .  So far I had been surviving daily but I do not trust my body anymore.  I wake up each day as if it is my last and I am always grateful for every breath that I take.  I am well.  My body is functioning just right.  I saw my cardiologist a few days ago and he is not too worried about my recovery.  To my family and friends who sometimes wonder if I will come back from my 40-mile cycling workout or be able to survive a 25yd subsurface swim, I am ok and please do not worry about me.  I think I am now ready to go anytime.

STIGMA/ENIGMA
Being a cardiac patient makes my life a little different.  To me life is not normal anymore.  I view things differently.  I have not answered the “WHY” question about the cardiac event but I think I’ve already decoded the “WHAT” part.  When something happen to a person, there is a domino effect that precedes the event.  Humans tends to get awakened and we start doing things differently and in a better way.  Many people dread to experience a life threatening illness.  In my part, I am glad that it happened.  The cardiac event changed me as a person.  I think now that life is really too short. If I am given the opportunity to say something nice to somebody, without hesitation I’d say it.  Whenever I feel that my service contributes to the well being of another person, I take actions right away.  I now think that I might not have another chance to do what I ‘m called to do at a specific moment.

IT’S NOT ABOUT ME
I dislike blowing my own trumpet.  Every time I write something about myself or my activities or when I mentioned about what my family is doing and how they are, I feel a slight guilt inside me.  I don’t normally use the word “self” very often. When you hear me talking about my achievements, what I’ve done and what I’m doing – I am not longing to be approved by anyone.  I’m writing it down here and sharing it to the world so that you might know how I am able to encourage myself despite my life threatening medical condition.

There are people reading this journal who is suffering physically far greater than what I had experienced. I want to encourage you to keep going.  Do not lose hope.  Stay in prayer. Stay active when you can.  The end of your life is when there is no more breath in you.  But even that, there is always a hope of heaven.

I WANT TO HELP
If you think that I am in a position to lend a hand, please do not hesitate to let me know.  My heart is always open especially to people that I do not know.

New Car Insurance Premium Per 6 Months

image

Today was a small victory for us but in a broader view, having a driver’s license is actually a big deal.  Let me count the ways:
The Positive
1. I don’t have to drive him to school or pick him up.
2. He can do his own errands now or mine.
3. He starts his deeper independence training-being responsible for his own safety.
4. I don’t have to stay late at night waiting for him to be picked up from a friends house.
5. His freedom to do anything expands.

The Negative:
1. Insurance cost went up by almost $1000.00/year
2. Need for car #4
3. A slight anxiety of his whereabouts.
4. Me an my wife will now start thinking about“empty nest”. Today is the beginning of it.
5. My time with him will be less.  He won’t need me anymore.

Kids grows really fast and that is why as a parent, we ought to spend more time with them at any moment when they are available.  I have no regrets in the way I raised them and I know that from their hearts, they know we did everything for them.  To Brent and Brittney, you will always be in my heart.

Even if you guys are grown up now, this video always reminds me of how cute you were.

DREAM:
I was with my mother in Merida doing our morning walk at pantalan.  She was doing a simple exercise/stretching and was telling me how grateful she is that she is able  to walk again freely without pain.

My mother is currently in great pain as a remnant from her November 6, 2012 car accident.  She is in Cebu, Philippines and I’m here in Texas.  I know that deep in my heart I wanted to be with her to take care of her needs and giving her encouragement but I cannot at this time. I have an obligation as a father/husband and I cannot just take off from work any time for half-way around the world trip.  We talked on the phone almost daily and had been giving encouragement to her.  She’s 80 years old and was still very active until the accident.  Imagining is very different than actually seeing her go through the pain.  I’m feeling low [but not discouraged]but I know that God takes care of my family.  Today at Church during worship, I closed my eyes and lift my hands to God hoping to hear something.  I heard nothing… but then later on in the service, the Holy Spirit impressed my heart these words “I’ve given you a sign, she will be ok, Trust Me”.  I hope she will be.

For we walk by faith [we regulate our lives and conduct ourselves by our conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, with trust and holy fervor; thus we walk] not by sight or appearance. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Chapter 26-Keeping The Flame Alive; Day869

And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.  Joshua 24:15

Gardens don’t grow by themselves, they need to be tended and cultivated and weeded. the same is true of a marriage.

Is happy and lasting marriage possible?
Yes, when the couple learn to adjust to each other.
Every divorce represents a broken dream
Every divorce represents a shattered hope
Every divorce represents a ruined expectation
Every divorce represents a violation of God’s original blueprint for marriage.
Every divorce is a failure of the commitment made at the wedding when both said “I DO”
Every divorce is an evidence that word “as long we both shall live” was just a mere one line sentence of no importance during the wedding day.
Divorce just did not happen overnight. It started long before the signing of the papers or the physical separation.
Divorce started when the spouse began to contradict in ideas and intentions
Divorce happened because spouses ignored the warning signs and did not do anything to repair/adjust
Divorce is not the end of the journey
Divorce also can be a great beginning

3 Steps-Keeping the Flame Alive
1. Commit your marriage to God
Marriage is between Husband, Wife and God [God being in the middle]
Two vows we made at the wedding, one to the spouse and one to God – A promise of commitment
Marriage vows are vows of absolute faithfulness to each other and God
But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks heart and understanding (moral principle and prudence); he who does it is destroying his own life.  Proverbs 6:32
Grow together in your relationship with Christ

2. Commit yourself to your marriage
Don’t take your spouse for granted
Don’t drift apart, stay close at all times
Give priority to marriage
Put the welfare of marriage first above friends or relatives or other activities
Make marriage as the central part of your life, everything takes off from marriage and not marriage on the sideline
Address marriage as a responsibility and not a privilege
Always do something to strengthen it, not weaken it

3. Treat each other with affection and respect
Mutual affection and respect are essentials for a strong marriage
Encourage daily
Learn to forgive daily
Be sensitive to each others needs
Carry each other when hard time comes
Listen and listen well when your spouse is in a special situation or hardship

However, let each man of you [without exception] love his wife as [being in a sense] his very own self; and let the wife see that she respects and reverences her husband [that she notices him, regards him, honors him, prefers him, venerates, and esteems him; and that she defers to him, praises him, and loves and admires him exceedingly]. Ephesians 5:33

Bear (endure, carry) one another’s burdens and troublesome moral faults, and in this way fulfill and observe perfectly the law of Christ (the Messiah) and complete what is lacking [in your obedience to it]. Galatians 6:2

The 2 Most Important phrases in a marriage are
a. I LOVE YOU
b. PLEASE FORGIVE ME

A Word To The Unmarried
God calls some people to singleness and they may be better equipped to serve Him
Do not allow yourself to be drawn to a relationship that do not honor God.
Avoid sexual impurity of any type [heterosexual or homosexual]
Avoid falling in love with the wrong person for the wrong reasons
Don’t just look at the physical appearance
Look for inner qualities that will stand out during a long journey of comfort and sacrifice
Make it your goal to honor God in everything-including your marriage

Do not be in a hurry in the laying on of hands [giving the sanction of the church too hastily in reinstating expelled offenders or in ordination in questionable cases], nor share or participate in another man’s sins; keep yourself pure. 1 Timothy 5:22

Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worship fully fears the Lord, she shall be praised! Proverbs 31:30

Let not yours be the [merely] external adorning with [elaborate] interweaving and knotting of the hair, the wearing of jewelry, or changes of clothes; 4But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3: 3-4

Chapter 25-For Better or For Worse; Day868; Mom MRI

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24

Nothing brings more joy than marriage and nothing brings more misery than a bad marriage.
Marriage is God’ gift
What is marriage?
God gave marriage to us.
We are meant for each other.
Spouse should be our best friend also
Greatest joy is to be with each other till the end

Purpose of Marriage
1. God gave marriage to us for our companionship
2. God also established marriage for our mutual help and encouragement
3. God gave us marriage for our mutual happiness and pleasure
4. God gave us marriage to provide for the well-being of our families
5. God gave marriage to us to reflect Christ

Conflict-the true source of marital difficulties
Conflicts are caused by problems that couples create
Conflicts comes from spiritual disharmony
Conflicts are caused by selfishness
Opposite of love is not hate but SELFISHNESS
True love is an act of the will, a conscious decision to do what is best for the other person instead of ourselves
The true meaning when we say “I DO” is Lifetime Commitment
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4

Chapter 24-Forks in the Road; Day867

[the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. Psalm 32:8

We can’t change the past, but we can change the future.
It’s hard to undo some of the decisions we’ve made.
A man reaps what he sows.
Search for God’s will
Does God really care about the decisions we make? Yes.
Does God have a plan for our lives? Yes.
Avoid wrong choices
Develop daily the ability to make wise choices.
The greatest barrier to knowing God’s will is simply that we want to run our own lives.

Battles Within
1. Battle in our heart [our desires]
2. Battle between our wills  and God’s will

GOD’S WILL – 2 DIMENSIONS

1. God’s universal or general will
-His will for every person
-moral will-deals with our morality and ethical behavior
-does not change from person to person
-applies to you  and me and everyone
-it is God’s will for us to become His children
-it is God’s will for us not to lie or cheat or kill
-it is God’s will for us not to steal
-it is God’s will for us not commit sexual immorality
-these are written in the 10 Commandments Exodus 20

10 Commandments:
1. You shall have no other gods before or besides Me.
2. You shall not make yourself any graven image [to worship it] or any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me, But showing mercy and steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
3. You shall not use or repeat the name of the Lord your God in vain [that is, lightly or frivolously, in false affirmations or profanely]; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
4. [Earnestly] remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy (withdrawn from common employment and dedicated to God).
Six days you shall labor and do all your work, But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, your daughter, your manservant, your maidservant, your domestic animals, or the sojourner within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it [set it apart for His purposes].
5. Regard (treat with honor, due obedience, and courtesy) your father and mother, that your days may be long in the land the Lord your God gives you.
6. You shall not commit murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not witness falsely against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.

Where do we discover God’s General will?
1. The Bible-instruction book/guide
Purpose of the Bible:
a. for teaching
b. rebuking
c. correcting
d. training in righteousness

How can a young man  keep his way pure? By living according to His Word.
God’s will never lead us to do something that is contrary to His written Word-The Bible

2 Spiritual Principles: Luke 10:27
A simplified 10 Commandments, do these and you don’t have to worry memorizing/knowing the Ten Commandments.
1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind.
2. Love your neighbor as you love yourself

If you are ignorant of God’s Word, you will always be ignorant  of God’s will.
Know the Bible to know what God wants.
Make the Bible part of your daily life
Read Daily and understand and hear and apply

2. His personal will or individual will
– personal will differs from person to person
– For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Finding God’s Will
1. Commit your decision to God
2. Search the scriptures
3. Understand your circumstances
4. Seek Godly advice
5. Trust the Holy Spirit Guidance
6. Trust God for the outcome

And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21
Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.6In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Chapter 23-One Day At A Time; Day864

THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1

Without fuel a fire grows cold and so does our faith.

Journey disruptions
1. Destructive emotions
2. Wrong motives
3. Bad habits
4. Disappointments
5. Failure
6. Difficult relationships
7. Suffering and grief

Demas and Timothy example
Demas left Paul but Timothy stayed with him in times of trouble

Reasons  for faith gone cold
1. Pressure of time-we forget God; hectic schedule
2. Pressure of the crowd-I’m an oddball syndrome
3. Unconfessed sin
4. Our spiritual discipline grows lax

What is fuel of our faith?
1. Bible
2. Prayer
3. Fellowship
4. Worship

Faith Basic Principle
1. See each day as a gift from God
2. Commit your time with God
3. Set aside time for God and for others
4. Take time for God and for others.
5. Take time for your own needs

Christ wants to extend His authority to every part of our lives
1. Instead of seeing your job as a burden, see it as a responsibility given by God.
2. Be faithful in your work
3. Do your work in with integrity

Chapter 22-Dealing With Suffering and Loss; Day863; Marlon/Helenjoy

But though He causes grief, yet will He be moved to compassion according to the multitude of His loving-kindness and tender mercy.  Lamentations 3:32

Nothing  demonstrate our human frailty more forcefully than pain.
Wrong responses of pain:
1. Complaints
2. Anger
3. Bitterness

Purpose of Pain:
1. Alerting us to danger
2. Serves as warning that something is wrong

How should we react with Pain?
1. Be on guard against pain’s dangers.
-when in pain, we tend to focus on self
-emotional and spiritual danger manifests
-we become self absorbed and ignore the feelings of those around us
-we sometimes reject help from others “I can do it” or “I can handle” syndrome [by myself]
-watch out for self pity and bitterness
-watch out of the feeling of despair [loss of hope]
-watch out for statement “God is punishing me”, this is not true.
-pray for others when in pain, there are people like you who is in the same situation

2. Ask God to help you learn pain’s lessons
-get the message about your misfortune or pain [look for what and not why]
-sometimes pain teaches us to solely depend on God
-suffering draws us closer to God
-learn to trust God each day
-take the pain as a gift, not as punishment
-let your lips be filled with prayer and praise
-pray for His will to be done in your life
-rejoice since we have heaven waiting for us
-His Grace is enough

Loss and Grief
-grief is the deepest and intense pain a human being can experience
-a profound and enduring sense of sorrow and loss

Difficulties in Life includes:
Loss of health
Loss of friendship
Loss of financial security
Loss of inner peace
Loss of hope
Loss of a love one, the hardest of all the losses

Death is our final enemy

Responding to Grief
1. Don’t be surprised by grief-go to acceptance immediately
-our first response is numbness and shock
-we feel guilty and irrationally blaming us for not doing more to prevent [self blame syndrome]
-we feel angry towards the doctors and nurses [other blame syndrome]

2. Turn your grief over to God
-Cast your burden on the Lord and He shall sustain you Psalm 55:22
-don’t carry your grief alone
-He knows what you are going through and He is truly the father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

3. Surround your grief with gratitude
-thank God  for the years you have been together [the good and bad times]
-thank God that our loved one is now out of suffering
-thank God that they are now in Heaven
-thank God that someday you will be reunited with them
-thanks God for everything [it means not just the good things but also misfortune]

4. Reach out to someone who is also hurting
– when we reach out to others during suffering, the act of doing it releases pain also
-we are called to carry each other’s  burden

5. Know that our hardship and suffering are part of the process of life
-hard times are the chisel God uses to shape us
-grief is the molding process – to make us better and stronger
-grief produces perseverance
-Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything James 1:2-4

Again the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a dealer in search of fine and precious pearls,
Who, on finding a single pearl of great price, went and sold all he had and bought it.
Matthew 13:45

Love one another with brotherly affection [as members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another.
Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.
Rejoice and exult in hope; be steadfast and patient in suffering and tribulation; be constant in prayer.
Contribute to the needs of God’s people [sharing in the necessities of the saints]; pursue the practice of hospitality.

Chapter 21-When Others Disappoint; Day862

Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s own chosen ones (His own picked representatives), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved [by God Himself, by putting on behavior marked by] tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, [and] patience [which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper]. Colossians 3:12

Have these:
Compassion
Kindness
Humility
Gentleness
Patience

Life would be great if it were not for other people. This is not a true statement, we need others and without them life will not be great
God did not makes us that way.
It is not good for man to be alone. Genesis 2:18
Man’s companion
1. Others
2. God Himself

Why life is difficult?  Because of people.
People can be difficult
People can be stubborn
People can be ego-driven
People can be thoughtless
People can be mean
People can be selfish
People can be manipulative

Why can’t we just get along?
1. People are from different culture or social background and they think everyone should be the same way they are.
2. People has contrasting personalities and have a hard time adjusting with them
3. People wants our own way

Our deepest problem is from within
Our problem is our hearts and minds
Satan’s objective-to divide the Christians and destroy our witness
Our defense is the Holy Spirit and God’s Love
How to solve the problem?-Learn to love each other.
Live in Love
Be like God, a loving God
Love one another as I loved you John 13:34

What is Love? Types of Love
1. Eros-Physical or sexual attraction
2. Storge-Family affection; love between parents and their children
3. Phileo-Friendship or brotherly love
4. Agape-selfless love;
-love that extends even to those who are not loveable or even worthy of love
-the kind of love that God has for us
-the kind of love we should have for others
-it is more than a warm feeling or an impulsive act of kindness
-it is more than an emotion but a conscious act of the will
-it is a deliberate decision on our part to put others ahead of ourselves
-the opposite of agape love is selfishness
-Each of you should look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others Philippian 2:4
-God’s love/His love/agape love is the hallmark of our life as a Christian

7 Principles-How to live A Good/Great Life
1. Make it your goal to live at peace with others
2. Treat others the way you would want them to treat you
3. Pray not only for your friends but for your enemies
4. Guard your tongue, and use it for good instead of evil
5. Never repay evil with evil
6. Don’t only avoid revenge, but don’t be a captive to the past
7. Practice the transforming power of forgiveness

Day844; Dream-Suore

DREAM: Time with Suore
I was in an unknown city trying to find my way home.  I asked one a person in the street where I can find the train station and told me that “it is right there – pointing his hand in the direction but you really have to walk around a long way to get to the train station”.  My search of the train station started. I was walking in the crowded and busy street looking for the train station for quite a while and all of a sudden the street ended at the train station counter.  There was only one visible train in the station as viewed from the flight of stairs as I entered the place.  At the entrance of counter, I have to pick “Line A” ?or “Line B”?.  I was confused as to why I have to choose a certain Line to get home when in fact there is only one train available and goes to only one destination.  I reasoned that I should be able to ride the train and gets home no matter what Line I choose since the train only goes in one place.  I later learned that Line A, when you disembark will get you to a different place because there are two places being separated by the railroad tracks and you can’t just walk across the railroad track to go to the other side.  The train is the only way to get to the other side.  Since I was confused of what Line to take, I decided to not take the train ride and started walking around looking for an alternative.  As I was walking down the stairs of the shopping center, I met an old friend – codename-Suore in her habit.  We said hello and exchanged a lot of stories about life and end up spending the whole night together talking about our different experiences.

Chapter 1: Welcome to the Journey-The Journey Begins; Day842

Book-The Journey – How To Live By Faith In An Uncertain Word
Author-Billy Graham
ISBN-10: 0849918871
Pages: 320
Chapters: 30

CHAPTER 1 – WELCOME TO THE JOURNEY
I came today to the well and said, O Lord, God of my master Abraham, if You are now causing me to go on my way prosperously Genesis 24:42

You can’t change the past, but you can change the future.
The future does not need to be a copy of the past, nor does God want it to be
Architects draws the plan for a new building, but it still has to be built
God gave us the blueprint for living , but we must know what it is and then put into action
Life is a journey, it has a starting point
Life is a journey, it has an end
Like any other journey, there is also a middle part [we are in the middle of the  journey]

WHAT KIND OF JOURNEY?
1. Disappointment
2. Sorrows
3. Heartache
3. Sickness
4. Fear
5. Guilt
6. Loneliness
7. Despair

CAN LIFE BE ANY DIFFERENT?
With God’s help, you can begin again

3 GREAT TRUTHS ABOUT THE JOURNEY
1. God put you on the journey of life
2. God wants us to join us in this journey
3. God calls us to a new journey

CHANGE TO GOD’s Path-A JOURNEY WITH GOD
REASONS:
1. The old path will not deliver what it promises
2. God’s path will always deliver what He promises
3. It leads us home-eternal home

THE DAY BEFORE:
Yesterday [Saturday], I was doing my own shopping around of tech stuff but was not happy with the outcome. My 16 years old son called me that he was with Britta [my wife] shopping for school supplies. I told him that I will meet them as I am getting closer to their location. After 10 minutes, we met at the parking lot and then went inside a “woman” store. Me and Brent looked at each other and then I signaled him that we need to vacate to a better “manly” venue or else we get bored waiting and also irritate the other shopper. I told him about the a new Half-Price Book Store just recently opened nearby and suddenly in unison told Britta “take your time Mom, we are going to the bookstore”. After a few walking around wondering at the ‘business section’ of the bookstore, I came across the ‘Christian section’. I browsed the used books with my head in horizontal position since the books were arranged in an upright position. It took a while and I keep telling myself “show me a good book to read”. After 5 minutes of looking, there it was – I found a treasure – The Journey by Billy Graham. In the Half-Price bookstore, you can read the entire book in the reading lounge but that was not my intention that evening. I sat down and browsed the chapters and started reading chapter1. Twenty minutes later, I bought “The Journey” and then Brent bought
Fiesta-The Sun also Rises by Ernest Hemingway.

The reason why I mentioned the mechanics of how I got this book is to show an example of how I can change something in the future as mentioned in Chapter1. I was wondering of what else can I do with this material. Then I remember – maybe I can share this information through my journal and others will have an interest on the same journey also. I will not divulge too much information here but will write down the highlights.

To Brittney and Brent – “ Please read when you discover this book in my bookshelf. ”.

To those reading this journal, I want you to read the book yourself, it is very enlightening [I think]. I will be using this book as the source of my daily journal entry for 30 days. I hope that you too will join me in the study.

5 Things-Personal Leadership; Day841; "la ricerca è finita"

Exercise foresight and be on the watch to look [after one another], to see that no one falls back from and fails to secure God’s grace (His unmerited favor and spiritual blessing), in order that no root of resentment (rancor, bitterness, or hatred) shoots forth and causes trouble and bitter torment, and the many become contaminated and defiled by it–  Hebrews 12:15

If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action]. 1 John 1:9

If anyone says, I love God, and hates (detests, abominates) his brother [in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, Whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:20

1. Practice foresight [Providence by virtue of planning prudently for the future]
2. Be careful and sensible when making decision
3. Always make sound judgment
4. Admit mistakes
5. Love every human being you come in contact

"la ricerca è finita"

In Your Freedom
I search for You God of strength
I bow to You in my brokenness
No other King could have so humbly come
To save my soul and heal my heart

[pc]
I have nothing more
Than all You offer me
I have nothing else
That’s of worth to me

[c]
I love You Lord
You rescued me
You are all that I want
You’re all I need
I pray to You God of peace
I rest in You my cares released

[b]
In Your freedom I will live
In Your freedom I will live
I offer devotion

10 Things-Life Battlefield Do’s; Day840

Pay attention and always be on your guard [looking out for one another]. If your brother sins (misses the mark), solemnly tell him so and reprove him, and if he repents (feels sorry for having sinned), forgive him.4And even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and turns to you seven times and says, I repent [I am sorry], you must forgive him (give up resentment and consider the offense as recalled and annulled). Luke 17:3-4

And Jesus prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided His garments and distributed them by casting lots for them. Luke 23:34

And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

1. Pay attention
2. Be on guard
3. If brother or sister make a mistake, solemnly tell and reprove [solemnly-in a grave and sedate manner]
4. Forgive infinitely [without bounds]
5. Delete resentment [resentment is a feeling of deep and bitter anger and ill-will, get rid of it]
6. Forgive as Jesus forgave [imitate Christ habit of forgiving, “they do not know what they are doing’]
7. Be useful to one another
8. Be helpful to one another
9. Be compassionate to one another
10. Be forgiving to one another

Forgiveness as First/Last Option; Day839

For if you forgive people their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15

Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and let it go? [As many as] up to seven times?22Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven! Matthew 18:21-22

So he got up and came to his [own] father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity and tenderness [for him]; and he ran and embraced him and kissed him [fervently]. Luke 15:20

Forgiveness Comes Before Worship; Day838

To cast lots puts an end to disputes and decides between powerful contenders. Proverbs 18:18

Who is a God like You, Who forgives iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retains not His anger forever, because He delights in mercy and loving-kindness.19He will again have compassion on us; He will subdue and tread underfoot our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:18-19

So if when you are offering your gift at the altar you there remember that your brother has any [grievance] against you,24Leave your gift at the altar and go. First make peace with your brother, and then come back and present your gift. Matthew 5:23-24

lot- From an unused root meaning to be rough (as stone); properly a pebble, that is, a lot (small stones being used for that purpose); figuratively a portion or destiny (as if determined by lot): – lot.

Anything (as a die, pebble, ball, or slip of paper) used in determining a question by chance, or without man’s choice or will; as, to cast or draw lots

1. Cast lots to settle dispute [use chance to settle dispute]
2. God forgives us through our repentance and then we cast all our sins [in this order]
3. Forgiving someone comes before worship
4. “I cannot worship without forgiveness in my heart”

Hidden Strength; Day829; Dream

But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me! 2 Corinthians 12:9

Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves].4Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not [merely] his own interests, but also each for the interests of others.5Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] Philippians 2:3-5

Likewise, you who are younger and of lesser rank, be subject to the elders (the ministers and spiritual guides of the church)–[giving them due respect and yielding to their counsel]. Clothe (apron) yourselves, all of you, with humility [as the garb of a servant, so that its covering cannot possibly be stripped from you, with freedom from pride and arrogance] toward one another. For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)–[and He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble. 6Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,7Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. 1 Peter 5:5-7

1, Grace is enough.
2. When we are weak, we are stronger
3. Submit to authority or the person older or above you.
4. Negative consequences of being proud.
4. Give all concerns to Him

Dream: Transporting a blue vehicle from Cebu to Leyte
“I was transporting a blue vehicle on board a ferry from Cebu to Leyte.  The vehicle was loaded properly but I rode with the harbor pilot to lead the ferry during the beginning of the trip.  The ferry was supposed to wait for us so that when it reaches the safe zone, we will board – but the ferry just took off without us. A sister was in that ferry and tried calling her but unable to.  I had the key to the vehicle and I was wondering what happened to the vehicle when it arrive in Leyte because they could not move the vehicle. I was left behind in Cebu.”

“Exalt Self” Less; Day828

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled (ranked below others who are honored or rewarded), and he who humbles himself (keeps a modest opinion of himself and behaves accordingly) will be exalted (elevated in rank). Luke 14:11

Not that we are fit (qualified and sufficient in ability) of ourselves to form personal judgments or to claim or count anything as coming from us, but our power and ability and sufficiency are from God 2 Corinthians 3:5

Not that we [have the audacity to] venture to class or [even to] compare ourselves with some who exalt and furnish testimonials for themselves! However, when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely. 2 Corinthians 10:12

Exalt-praise, glorify, of honor; fill with sublime emotion; raise in rank, character, or status
1. Exalt self less.
2. Humility produces exaltation

DO NOT boast of [yourself and] tomorrow, for you know not what a day may bring forth. 2Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips. Proverbs 27:1-2

TAKE CARE not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward [reserved for and awaiting you] with and from your Father Who is in heaven. Matthew 6:1

1. Do not boast of tomorrow, tomorrow is uncertain [aka don’t celebrate too early]
2. Do not praise yourself, let others do it.
4. Do not do good deeds to be seen before men, do it for God secretly.

16 Life Race Instructions; Day825; Dream

FURTHERMORE, BRETHREN, we beg and admonish you in [virtue of our union with] the Lord Jesus, that [you follow the instructions which] you learned from us about how you ought to walk so as to please and gratify God, as indeed you are doing, [and] that you do so even more and more abundantly [attaining yet greater perfection in living this life] 1 Thessalonians 4:1

I have fought the good (worthy, honorable, and noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the faith 2 Timothy 4:7

THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses [who have borne testimony to the Truth], let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily (deftly and cleverly) clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us,2Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

1. Instructions in the Bible, follow it.
2. Walk to please and gratify God
3. Objective in life is greater perfection
4. Fight a good fight
5. Finish the race
6. Keep the faith to the end
7. Get rid of unnecessary weight [sin]
8. Run with patient endurance
9. Steady in our lifestyle [righteousness]
10. Always in active persistence
11. Follow the appointed course
12. Look away from distractions [temptations]
13. Keep your eyes in Christ
14. Obtain the prize joyfully [even in suffering]
15. Endure the cross [hardship]
16. Ignore the shame [we are all declared winners in Heaven]

Diligence Plus; Day824

In everything I have pointed out to you [by example] that, by working diligently in this manner, we ought to assist the weak, being mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed (makes one happier and more to be envied) to give than to receive. Acts 20:35

Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but [only] one receives the prize? So run [your race] that you may lay hold [of the prize] and make it yours. Corinthians 9:24

Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men,24  Knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [and not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [real] reward. [The One Whom] you are actually serving [is] the Lord Christ (the Messiah) Colossians 3:23-24

1. Diligence makes us stronger.
2. Diligence allows us to help the weak.
3. Diligence allows us to give more than we receive.
4. Diligence makes us run and finish the race.
5. Diligent work is from the heart, done for God not man.
6. Diligence has a prize at the end.

Do Everything Mightily; Day823; Book-Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol (the place of the dead), where you are going. Ecclesiastes 9:10

And Jesus increased in wisdom (in broad and full understanding) and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man. Luke 2:52

He who is faithful in a very little [thing] is faithful also in much, and he who is dishonest and unjust in a very little [thing] is dishonest and unjust also in much. Luke 16:10

1. Every task in life is given to you, do it with all your might
2. Progression of Wisdom is the result of hard work
3. Start small in Faith and grow from day to day

I’ve finished reading the book Mere Christianity [right click – save as] by C.S. Lewis.  Please find time to read this book.  There were so many new things that I learned from this book.  You will not be disappointed.  I struggled on the first half of the book but then on the second half, ideas became so clear.  At the end, my whole perspective about Christianity has been transformed.

Be Diligent; Day822

He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame. Proverbs 10.5

The appetite of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the appetite of the diligent is abundantly supplied. Proverbs 13:4

He who is loose and slack in his work is brother to him who is a destroyer and he who does not use his endeavors to heal himself is brother to him who commits suicide. Proverbs 18:9

BE DILIGENT
Diligent-Quietly and steadily continuing a task despite any difficulties
Diligence – Conscientiousness in paying proper attention to a task; giving the degree of care required in a given situation; Persevering determination to perform a task; A diligent effort
1. Think ahead through planning
2. Crave to do something
3. Aim to fix problems and not create new ones
4. Start and finish [never give up or stop until the task is finished]

A Christian society is not going to arrive until most of us really want it: and we are not going to want it until we become fully Christian. I may repeat "Do as you would be done by" till I am black in the face, but I cannot really carry it out till I love my neighbor as myself: and I cannot learn to love my neighbor as myself till I learn to love God: and I cannot learn to love God except by learning to obey Him. And so, as I warned you, we are driven on to something more inward —driven on from social matters to religious matters. For the longest way round is the shortest way home. “Mere Christianity” C.S.Lewis

God’s Compassion To Mankind; Day820

For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. Jeremiah 29:11

It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. 23  They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

For in [this] hope we were saved. But hope [the object of] which is seen is not hope. For how can one hope for what he already sees?25  But if we hope for what is still unseen by us, we wait for it with patience and composure. Romans 8:24-25

KEY POINTS:
“compassion” – a deep awareness of and sympathy for another’s suffering; 2 The humane quality of understanding the suffering of others and wanting to do something about it

2. God’s compassion never fails

But I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more..Psalm 71:14
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life. Proverbs 13:12
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint or grow weary; there is no searching of His understanding.29  He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound]. Isaiah 40:28-29

2. Hope always-no matter what circumstance
3. Hope is a source of power, it keeps us going, increases our strength
4. Hope is an action

Regardless…- Rejoice!; Day818

Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will]. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.3  Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.4  But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4

I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my [spiritual] children are living their lives in the Truth. 3 John 1:4

KEY POINTS:
1. Be thankful in everything [good or bad]
2. God’s will for us [where we are and whatever happens]
3. To a complete degree, be joyful in trial and tribulation
4. The proving/testing of our faith produces:
a. Endurance – The power to withstand hardship or stress
b. Steadfastness – Loyalty in the face of trouble and difficulty
c.  Patience – Good-natured tolerance of delay or incompetence
d. Perfection – The state of being without a flaw or defect

Joy Then Triumph; Day817

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows) John 10:10
Rejoice with those who rejoice [sharing others’ joy], and weep with those who weep [sharing others’ grief]. Romans 12:15
But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere, 2 Corinthians 2:14
Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice! Philippians 4:4

KEYPOINTS
1. We have a real enemy and his objective is to steal our joy.
2. We have an companion and His objective is to keep/increase our joy and enjoy life
3. We are commanded to be with the same emotion with others.  Not mourn when they are celebrating victory and not celebrating when they are down in the bottomless pit.
4. God leads us in victory. When we are sick in body, facing terminal illness, finances is low, losing our job, unable to find work, rebellion in our family, chaotic relationship, brethren accusing us, confused about life,  loneliness, bitterness, lost – keep your eyes focused to the finish line-we will triumph in the end.
5. Regardless of any negative circumstances – express great joy to God

I was in the neighborhood pool by myself [11am and 90’F] doing my routine 2.4 miles swim training.  This is an 80 minutes non-stop easy to hard pace.  I wish I can just close my eyes and count the number of strokes in every lap and then do it over and over for 80 minutes.  I’ve been doing this weekly routine since 2006 and sometimes its getting boring especially when there is no one in the pool except the clear water and the wind.  The solitude fits my need of being in a conversation mood with God. The swim itself is not hard and in fact it is very easy for me.  What is hard is trying to get to the last lap – the very end of the 2.4mile and I struggled in focusing to finish mentally.  But with all the struggles that I have in my mind, I told myself that I will continue to perform this task regardless of any negative circumstance affecting me – that I will finish to the end.

Swimming has similarities on how we live our life.  We set goals and objectives and there are times that  we face difficulties.  Most of us just give up and try another activity when we are hard pressed.  But there will be a time that giving up is not option and we try to keep going no matter what.  In my swimming struggles, what fuels me is joy.  The joy of being able just to float freely in the water and swim across the pool back and forth until I reached my desired distance.  It’s not the victory at the end why I do what I do in my life, it is the joy of doing it that lead me to victory everyday.  If the trophy at the finish line is what we are after, then what happens next after you win it all.  There are many examples we can draw from the top athletes in the world, if winning is the ultimate goal, then reaching it ends the joy.  The joy is in the “doing part”, it’s in the journey, it’s in the struggle – reaching the goal or objective in life is irrelevant.

Journey to Gladness; Day816; Day001

They who sow in tears shall reap in joy and singing. Psalm126:5
A glad heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken. Proverbs 15:13
Your words were found, and I ate them; and Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16
Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are enrolled in heaven. Luke 10:20

KEYPOINTS:
1. Gladness progression is from tears to joy; heartbroken to being whole
2. Gladness starts from the inside. When the Holy Spirit touches/speaks to you in a special way
3. Gladness is found in His Words-the heart rejoices when we consume His Words
4. Gladness motivation-our membership in Heaven is counted. [no other reasons]
5. Gladness source-Christ Himself and no other

“God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine. A car is made to run on gasoline, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other. That is why it is just no good asking God to make us happy in our own way without bothering about religion. God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.”  Mere Christianity p.30  C..S. Lewis

Regarding keypoint #2, I had been shown in my heart by the Holy Spirit and He is trying to communicate with me through strange circumstances lately.  The other day during my 1-mile swim, I normally just execute my swimming training thinking and praying to God and sometimes brainstorming about work problems.  I had 30 minutes to do it since I have to pickup my son from his tennis practice.  I had my stopwatch running and I normally ends at :35 minutes, this time I stopped at :30.  When I went to my backpack and get my phone to check if Brent had called, the phone rings and my wife told me that Brent is ready to be picked up.  I did not pay attention to it but then in a few minutes the Holy Spirit explained to me that there is an “appointed time” that He set and if I pay attention closely, I can recognize it.  My day went on and forgot the whole experience.  On Monday the next day, I did my normal 40mile cycling route but added an extra 2 miles just to climb an extra hill for training purposes.  When I got home, I reached out for my phone from my back pocket and as I began to turn off the MapMyRide app, the phone rings again at the precise moment-the end of my workout-it was my daughter who was just asking a few questions regarding a water filter at her apartment in San Antonio.  This time, I did not even argue/self doubt and I know what he meant by “appointed time” – He is showing me something.

I’m switching to my own daily devotional using the youversion application. For some reason, I wake up this morning with this idea – “find your own revelation”.  As I follow my intuition, I was surprised of how everything is already laid out for me at youversion.  Check it out when you get a chance.  Consider this message as your “appointed time” revelation.

Notes on Temptation; Day814; The Cross

For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently. 1 Corinthians 10.13  […read more] [full chapter]

KEY POINTS:
1. Temptation-Something that seduces or has the quality to seduce; The desire to have or do something that you know you should avoid; The act of influencing by exciting hope or desire; Qualities that attract by seeming to promise some kind of reward
2. Synonyms-enticement, lure
3. Temptation has no ground in us [believers] ; we have the ability to resist. Just say no and that is the end of it or walk away
4. We are tempted but God always gave us a way out; when the exit door is shown, make sure you leave
5. There’s a ratio of how much temptation is allowed to us [according to our ability and strength]
6. There is always a way out when you are tempted
7. If you think the temptation is unbearable, be patient.
8. Wait patiently!
9. Temptation will always be there, but it is up to us if we yield to it.
examples:
-small voice telling you that you are worthless and you need to jump off a bridge or quit [you are designed to succeed]
-small voice telling you that you don’t have the ability to be the best-[you are the best!]
-small voice telling you that it’s ok not to go to church [there is a new movement of the Holy Spirit, seek it]
-urge to read information that is not relevant to you [if the information does not improve you, don’t consume it]
-mindless internet surfing [there is more to fb, chat, social networking – read a good book, articles, blogs that encourages you or energizes your passion]
-urge to shop mindlessly/without reason or purpose [always have a purpose when you do something, don’t just do things because you are bored and what to get some air]
– friend inviting you to a party where drinking is the central part [stay at home, that is the safest place for a stable person-you will never regret it]
-watching mindless tv instead of listening to Christian music and reading a book [tv has other good purposes, find it]
-feeling of keeping it to yourself when you have something good to say/write [if it will make the world better, if it encourages someone or if it can influence to a great workplace-share it]
-having a mindset that you have plenty of time to change later [change now!  you don’t really have much time and what if tomorrow does not come]

LOVE LIKE FIRE

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw59FODF7q4&w=448&h=252&hd=1]

I am desperate for Your touch
a glimpse of heaven
for the glory of Your Son.
In a moment You can
turn a life around
forever to be found in You.

I am reaching out to find
there’s nothing greater than
Your love that holds my life.
Your grace and mercy that
have saved me by Your blood,
and swept away my shame Oh Lord.

Chorus
Your love is like fire
that burns for all to see.
My only desire
to worship at Your feet.
So let this fire
consume my life.
Let Your love take me deeper
pull me closer to where You are,
’cause all I want is more of You.

and I’ll surrender to Your love
forever humbled by the
message of the cross.
I stand abandoned in
Your presence and Your grace,
and I’ll never be the same Oh God.

Chorus
Your love is like fire,
that burns for all to see.
My only desire,
to worship at Your feet.
So let this fire
consume my life.
Let Your love take me deeper,
pull me closer to where You are,
’cause all I want is more of You.

When You call I will follow.
At the cross I surrender all,
Jesus I belong to You.

I belong to You Lord

Your love is like fire,
that burns for all to see.
My only desire,
to worship at Your feet.

Your love is like fire,
that burns for all to see.
My only desire,
to worship at Your feet.

So let this fire
consume my life.
Let Your love take me deeper,
pull me closer to where You are,
’cause all I want is more of You.

When You call I will follow,
at the cross I surrender all,
Jesus I belong to You.

Let Your love take me deeper,
pull me closer to where You are,
cause all I want is more of You

When You call I will follow,
at the cross I surrender all,
Jesus I belong to You

Personal Revelation of God; Day812; The Day After

For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification]  […read more] [full chapter]

2. Attributes
3. Eternal power

THE DAY AFTER
Something happened last night after the Hillsong concert.  I know that I have not come to the fullness of Christ yet in my years of spending time with Him daily. It seems like the Holy Spirit is turning my faith to the next phase.  I don’t know what it is but I feel something is stirring up inside my heart and mind and I am excited and overjoyed.  Whatever it is, I will be glad to wait for what is to come.

HILLSONG CONCERT-CEDAR PARK CENTER
There is only one word that I can describe of todays event – AWESOME and I’m not going to describe further more.  When you get a chance to be in one of Hillsong’s concert, don’t miss it.  Actually it is not a concert, it is a full blown non-stop worship for >2hours and the worst thing about the whole event was – it has to come to an end.   I did not know what type of ticket I purchased and when I arrived at the stadium, the usher told me to go to the pit.  A short feel around of the place, I realized that the pit is the space close to the stage and there were no chairs to sit down-it is standing only.  So I figure, this is going to be a great worship night – no sitting down.  I was not disappointed.  It was a lifetime experience.  The crowd at the pit are the loudest and the more expressive in worship.  It was like being at the front row of a large church.  I was glad I was in the pit.

To Brittney and Brent, please attend one of this event in the future.
