Choose Your Hiding Place Wisely!

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” Psalm 119:114 AMP

“A hiding place-a place suitable for hiding; a place of escape; or a place/act to separate yourself from an event or calamity or problems.”

What do you do when something bad happens? Where do you go when things don’t go in your projected outcome? What do you do when you think you failed? What is the first thing do you grab when your day was so exhausting and filled with failures, insults and demeaning events or conversation? What do you do when you can’t find a stable source of income to finance your family? What do you do when your doctor told you that your body is failing and you might not live more than a month? What do you do when someone close to you dies? What do you do when you become a victim of betrayal with the person whom you loved so dearly?

No matter how we train ourselves to prepare for these disasters or inconveniences in life, there is no escape from reality. We will go though these painful experiences no matter what (some, not all). That is the bottom line-we will one day be subjective to a very difficult situation.

Many of us had created a few defenses to deal with difficult situations. We turn to friends for counsel. We turn to mature figures like our parents or relatives for advices. Some will resort to alcohol to drown themselves from seeing or feeling the pain. Some will resort to drugs and sex for temporary comfort. Some will inflict pain to the physical body so that the physical pain overrides the emotional pain. A few of us will take up endurance sports to numb our mind from the emotional pain and suffering. Some will pack their bags and disappear to another remote country and start over.

My favorite hiding places:
1. Long distance cycling
2. Long distance swimming
3. Reading books.
4. Solving problems(anything that requires thinking)
5. Organizing my life daily
6. I read the Bible daily right after waking up
7. I blog about what I read in the Bible
8. Prayer
9. I go to Church every Sunday
10. I mentor anyone that comes in contact with me.

My best hiding place-The presence of God.

More Than Conquerors; Dream#1,#2

“Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.” Romans 8:37 AMP

“Conqueror-someone who is victorious by force of arms”

“Conquer-overcome by conquest; take possession by force; to put down by force or authority”

“Victory-a successful ending”

When we struggle of something, we always think of quitting or shifting our priorities. We are afraid to continue the fight and give up.
“Maybe this is not for me”
“Maybe I am not meant for this”
“I made a mistake on taking up this journey”
“I’ll be glad to start over again”
“When this hardship going to an end?”
“Will I be happy again?”
“When can I feel normal every time I wake up in the morning?”
“When can I be at peace before I go to bed?”
“When will all my troubles be gone?”
“When will I stop worrying about my job?”
“When will I stop worrying about my health?”
“When will my insecurities end?”
“When will my depression stopped?”
“Where can I get money for food?”
“How can I come up of funds for my daily expenses?”

When you start asking these questions, know that the victory is already given to you.

“We are more than conquerors.”

Dream:
#1. Someone at work announced a new leader and we were instructed to write a short welcome note. We started with a small post it note but then the space was too small and suggested that we have to use a bigger paper- we end up using a yellow pad paper.

I did not write anything.

#2. I was lying on the floor when my boss passed by but I was on her pathway, she walked over me.

Know More About God

“[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]” Philippians 3:10 AMP

“Determined-devoted full strength and undivided and concentrated attention”

“Purpose-an anticipated outcome that is intended”

It is impossible to know somebody without spending time in research about the subject. When I was still chasing my wife many years ago, I studied her literally. I observed her ways, the way she talks, feel etc. I wanted to know more about how she reacts in certain difficult events. I wanted to know more about the way she thinks. I wanted to know more about what makes her mad or laugh. Not that I knew all about her during the courtship phase, but I had a big picture about her. In no time, we became best friends as we spend time together for hours talking just about any subject. We been through storms together and survived. We went through glorious moments also and we celebrated the triumph with each other.

Fast forward 27 years and you will be surprised about the outcome of the closeness we shared in those good old times. We talked less now. We don’t spend 4 hours on the phone talking nonsense. 2 minutes on the phone is already a world record. We are so comfortable without talking for hours when we are side by side. We talked in our minds. We understand each other like we have mind power that we know each other’s next move. My relationship with my wife is personal, too personal and intimate and we are committed to each other. It is really hard to imagine not to think of her every minute of my life. She became a part of me forever.

Our relationship to God is the same way. God is a Person. Jesus is a Person. The Holy Spirit is a Person. In other religion, worshipping and believing God seems so distant and no personal touch. To some, God is out there in the heavens watching us and listening to us but no feeling that He is with us or around us as we walk in our daily life.

Many people were wondering why God send His son Jesus to the world and let Him live for a few years and then let Him die at the cross. Jesus was God and He has all the power to sit Himself free from all the sufferings but He did suffer anyway. It is really hard to understand the concept of Christ’s suffering but the answer lies after the resurrection. When He was near His death, Jesus told His disciples – instructions about the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will come and will give us power. It took me a while to fully understand the presence of the Holy Spirit but when I did, I became fully aware of God’s presence.

The Holy Spirit is a Person. Treat Him as your friend. Ask Him questions. Ask Him for guidance and wisdom.

Once we developed friendship with the Holy Spirit, we will be surprised that we cannot be so alone by ourselves. We found a true friend that can be with us wherever we are and whenever.

It’s not rocket science to know a person. All you have to do is use your curious ways. Be curious. Talk to Him and read about Him.

5 Levels of Faith

"Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven." Matthew 5:16 AMP

Level 1-Zero belief in God
Level 2-You believe that there is God
Level 3-You believe in God, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit
Level 4-You believe in God, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, reads the Bible, pray, active in church
Level 5-You are living all out for Jesus; “your light is shining before men”; has boldness to tell the whole world about the “Good News”

My faith fluctuates between Level 4 and Level 5. I’m trying to grow but sometimes there are instances that pulls me back to a lower level. It is hard to do it when you are in the battlefield most of the times. Knowing what level of faith you currently in is a good thing. Our faith should grow to the highest level after a few years of being in the faith. We grow in faith by exercising our beliefs. Expect something from God and when those expectations are met, our faith increases. But not just in victory that our faith grows, there are times that we encounter hardship and impossibility, these experiences also can drive our faith to a higher level. Faith is a daily journey. Our victory from yesterday does not promise a victory for the next day. The devil is real and he is always watching us when we feel vulnerable to temptations. Being watchful can help but the best defense is being constantly in the Word of God. Spend time daily reading the Bible and let the message speak to your heart. You don’t have to read other person’s devotional, you can create your own devotional and write the things that is reflected to you and meditate on it. For those who are just starting your faith journey, don’t get discouraged right away when you think you failed your faith. Once you are in The Kingdom, the Holy Spirit will guide you in every step. Be patient and let you inner being listen to the whisper of the Voice of God.

The levels of faith that I mentioned earlier is just for illustration only. I just made that up to quantify faith. There is really no way to quantify how much we believe in God. There are 2 levels of faith, Level 0 and Level 5. You are either for God or against God.

Unexplained Favor; 15 Years at Samsung

"Blessed and enviably happy [with a happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His matchless grace] are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted!" Matthew 5:4 AMP

"Blessed-highly favored or fortunate"

"Mourn-feel sadness"

"Comforted-experience physical well being or relief"

One of the reason why I am sharing my thoughts here on the web is I want you to know that there is hope. I don’t know who you are and how you struggle everyday. I’m always thinking of people who are less fortunate, that life must have been so difficult for years and you are asking "when these hardship is going to end?".

I gained nothing for doing this except for a simple thought-that a few of you might end up sharing the same cup of joy with me.

I had my share of misfortune (maybe hardship) a few years back. There were times that I thought life is a struggle for survival. You get your shovel and work hard everyday to provide for your family. Then at night, you gather your strength in your sleep and then wake up in the morning and do the same thing over again.

There is one thing that science have not explained to me yet-"God’s Favor".

Looking back through the years since my birth, I have no idea that I will end up where I am today.  I know that you too might have the same theme of life-a journey of defeat and triumph.

Yesterday, I received my 15 years of service award from Samsung. They gave me a cute glass statue with my name on it and the year 2013 engraved just below my name. I joined Samsung in July of 1998, a year after they built the building in 1997. I don’t consider my job at Samsung secured because I know how this technology market can change in a day. I love my job, my team, my co workers and my superiors and I really desire to retire from this place. That chapter of my life still need to be written.

When I got home, I stared at the award for a moment and then all of a sudden names, events, places flashes in my mind. It was like being in heaven where God stood beside me showing all the things He had done through the years. He was explaining to me how my mom and dad felt so excited about my birth. Then He showed me how I cried so much in 1983 when my father died that evening of April 9th at the age of 55. Then He moved on to show me how He let me stumble with the person that became my wife. Then He showed me the flood in Ormoc where 5000 people died and I managed to find ways to survive. Then He showed me New York where I felt so happy to be reunited with my wife but then in 3 months time, took away that happiness and replaced it with sadness when I joined the US Army; the night before I left for training we learned that my wife was pregnant. Then He showed me how sad I was during that moment as I left New York and I even questioned Him. Then He showed me how worried I was during the 2-hour bus ride from the airport to Ft Leonardwood, Missouri (on my way to Army boot camp) thinking that I let my wife and baby down by leaving them on their own. Then He showed my hardship in the mountains of South Korea for a one-year tour of duty at DMZ. Then He showed me how He manipulated my mind to take the AMD entrance test which guided my family to pick Austin as our final place of work Then He showed me how a person called me out of nowhere and recruited me to work for Samsung.

It took me a while to get to my "promise land" but I know in my heart that it was all God’s doing (God’s Favor). But what really got me so excited is when He showed me the people that I met during the journey; that without my interaction with them their life could have been so different. When I look back now and told myself that if I disobeyed God during my hardship and went on to a different direction these people will not be where they are now.

There are more stories like in my life that I consider unexplained. How did it happen? What lead to the event? Why?

God’s existence is a mystery but it does not have to remain a mystery to you. There are so much to expect from Him everyday that no one can ever imagine.

His favor is endless.

When Love Matures…

“There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love’s complete perfection]. We love Him, because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:18, 19 AMP

“Love-a strong positive emotion of regard and affection; an object of warm affection and devotion.”

“Maturity-the period of time in your life after your physical growth has stopped and you are fully developed.”

The true test of a genuine relationship is the existence of love. The true test of a genuine love is the existence of trust. the true test of a genuine trust is ‘the lack of fear’ in the relationship.

When love matures, there is no more room for fear.

Humility Produces Abundance

“The reward of humility and the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.” Proverbs 22:4 AMP

“Humility-a disposition to be humble; lack of false pride; marked by meekness or modesty, not arrogant or prideful”

“Superbia-unreasonable and inordinate self-esteem (personified as one of the deadly sins); pride”

“Rich-abundant, affluent, comfortable, easy, flush, loaded, moneyed, privileged, prosperous, wealthy, well-fixed, well-heeled, well-off, well-situated, well-to-do”

There are so many ways we can cross the line between being humble and being prideful. I think humans by design are prideful. We take pride in everything. We take pride in our work and the results it brings. We take pride of our possessions and would like the whole world to notice it. Pride is a motivator (in some ways) it drives us into action. But too much pride has a negative effect specially when it is mixed with arrogance.

The principle laid out in the Bible is always opposite to what a natural man thinks. I’m still amazed by this thinking: do you want to be rich, give to the poor ; do you want to be peaceful, reach out to those who are needy; do you want to be at the top, be at the ground level with the lowly; do you want to be smart and wise, don’t think on your own and rely in your own understanding; do you want joy, make other people happy; do you want to feel superior, be a follower; do you want to increase, decrease; do you want to be the first, be the last person.

So in theory, if you really want to excel in life, do the opposite of what you think.

The theory behind why it can succeed is when your cup is empty or your resources are dipping low, it produces a need. Imagine an empty cup in front of you, if that cup remains empty, there is always room for it to be filled. But imagine that the cup is full, there is no more space to fill.

The purpose of money is for “giving”.

Generosity produces wealth. When you are generous, God sees your heart and He quickly rearranges your life so that you will not run out. Think of yourself as being the pipeline of resources and the Heavenly Father is the source.

So how does humility produces abundance?

When we are humble, we become so dependent with God. We give up our own strength, own power, and own wisdom and we are no longer in control. When God is in control, He has more leverage in all areas of our life and can manipulate our circumstances to produce the best outcome. When we do it on our own, our capabilities are limited because we can only see what is in front of us. God sees the whole, we see only the portion of what we are trying to accomplish.

The Invention of Fear

“The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.” Proverbs 29:25 AMP

“Fear-an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger usually accompanied by a desire to flee or flight; an anxious feeling; a feeling of profound respect for someone or something ex. fear of God”

“Snare-something deceptively attractive that catches you unawares.”

I was awaken in the middle of the night because I heard my wife was talking in her sleep. She had a bad dream. A zombie was chasing her and my daughter. It feels literally that she was out of breath and was panting as if it was real.

The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is grab my iPhone and open the youversion app and read the message for today. Today’s message is about fear and what a perfect fit for the answer to her dream-“fear God and not man”.

Today marks the 2nd day of us having to wake up in each other’s arms. She previously worked nightshift at the hospital for such a long time that we really missed living like a normal couple. A good perk with her new workplace, a Monday-Friday day job, 8-5.

I came home yesterday with questions about the crash of Asiana flight 214. The incident hits home to me personally because we use that route to travel to Cebu almost every year. We fly to Incheon all the time now because we use Korean Air as our airline since they uses Dallas as port of entry and makes our trip to Austin to just less than an hour.

Somehow, the family was affected indirectly by the accident but I knew that I can hear their fears inside. When I explained to them how the accident happened, they were so attentive about the explanation.

Fear was invented to produce an action-“fight or flee”. But sometimes if fear is not dealt with and explained, we human beings will attempt to play that fear over and over and it becomes an obsession. When fear becomes an obsession, it drives us to act or respond abnormally even though the subject of our fear is not even present. There is a purpose of fear but when we give fear too much attention, it normally brings us unpleasant experiences.

Fear will always be there with us. It has its purpose, just don’t play it over and over in your thoughts. Turn on to the next page and continue living.

There is a different type of fear known to us. The fear of The Lord. The Bible’s meaning is -” the fear of The Lord is the beginning of Wisdom”. It looks deep and hard to explain but play that sentence over and over in your head and you will understand the meaning. It means “profound respect” to God. Knowing God is knowing His Wisdom and knowing His Wisdom makes you wiser than ever.

Be fearful… In a good way!

17 years Trim Tab Event

“Better is little with the reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord than great and rich treasure and trouble with it.” Proverbs 15:16 AMP,

“Reverent-a feeling of profound respect for someone”

“Worshipful-showing adoration”

How do you turn the ‘direction’ of a giant cruise liner? You turn the rudder left or right. How do you turn a ‘rudder’ of a giant ship? They use trim tabs. Read more http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_tab

Trim tabs are small mechanism attached to the huge rudder to leverage the movement of a larger system. They don’t actually turn the rudder directly, they turn the “trim tabs” to execute the change of direction of the ship.

Today is a special day for me and my wife. We have those “trim tab moment” again and I am in awe. In 1996, we moved to Round Rock, Texas from the nearby US Army Base called Ft Hood. My 4 years enlistment in the Army ended and I just found a new job at AMD, Advanced Micro Devices, a semiconductor company who was the leading competitor of the giant Intel Corp. Britta found a new job at Round Rock Medical Center. Even up to this day, RRMC is so special to me because we found this hospital by accident driving around at night in the densely wooded road at 620. It was a gift to us that we discovered this new workplace for her. I already had job lined up at that time but my wife did not. Also, my youngest son was born in this hospital on August of 1996, 17 years ago.

For some unknown intervention, her employment at RRMC ended by surprise after 17 years and that is why today is a special day because we are starting over, Day000000.

I used to be bothered by “trim tab events” but when you worship and pray to an all powerful, all knowing God, I think I don’t have to worry at all. God allowed something to happen to us for a very special reason. Instead today I will say to myself “let’s go Lord, I am excited of where this family is going with the change.”

I welcomed this adjustment of Yours and I thank you for not letting us be so satisfied with status quo.

Notes-VisualMeeting

Being a technical person and a pure problem solver at work, I made it clear to my peers and boss that I don’t like to attend meetings.  If you want to discuss something with me, you need to drop by at my cube and I will give you my undivided attention.  My line of work has evolved lately and I have to spend more time in the carpet [this is what my factory peers choose to call the people in the cubicle – carpet worker or armchair quarterback] . Being in the carpet, we are always called for meetings for just about anything that comes up in our department.  If a hard problem arises, they call for a meeting.  If a mouse is trapped in the cabinet, they call for a meeting. [I’m just kidding] .There is also a daily morning meeting at 0750 which is better now due to the carefully planned agenda.  But sometimes, this morning meeting can also suffer from the syndrome called “meeting bounce” where a topic on the table is not part of the main agenda.  This ‘”meeting bounce” syndrome can be hard to stop sometimes especially when the bouncer are your superiors.

This weekend, I wanted to learn more about improving the way we hold meetings and did some search on the web of a good book to educate me.  I ended up with Visual Meetings by Sibbet.  I took some notes but you really have to read the book yourself to get the full dosage of learning.  Such a good read and lots of illustration as the book implied – Visual.

Acceptance Then Change

“But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!” 2 Corinthians 12:9 AMP

“Enough means an adequate quantity; a quantity that is large enough to achieve a purpose”

“Grace is mercy; God’s favor; loving-kindness”

Last week at church, the message was about acceptance and change. It was based in the story about Zacchaeus, a corrupt tax collector who was so interested about Jesus that he climbed up a tree just to get a glimpse about Jesus and His preaching. Read the story here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zacchaeus . To his surprise, Jesus called out his name and told him that He want to visit his house. Most of us will think that Zacchaeus effort attracted Jesus attention. Probably is, but the essence of the story is Jesus did not judge Zacchaeus by who he is. Jesus accepted him at face value without mentioning of repentance and change.

Our relationship with Jesus normally starts like the “Zacchaeus experience”. We become curious about Him and we began to inquire and ask around who this Jesus is. Our curiosity leads us to the transformation of a new person which then leads us to our new hope and faith.

Religion often times confuses us that we must do this prerequisite things before being accepted in the Kingdom of God. There is no requirement of change in the Kingdom of God. The only requirement is you must have an open heart to receive Him. His grace is more than enough to forgive us.

Have you heard these words before “come as you are”. It’s like that in the Kingdom, come with your broken life, come with your sins, come with your addiction, come with your filthiness and corruption of the mind.

My personal experience with this kind of change was so crystal clear. During the beginning of my journey in faith, my old self dominated my thoughts, my speech, my attitude, my feelings and my actions. I wanted to change because I know that going to church and reading the Bible does not mixed well with a worldly person. I want to get rid of my bad habits but the more I tried, the more I failed. I was using my own effort to transform myself. We don’t have enough will power to change our lives. You can at first but in the long run, you will end up in the same predicament no matter what without God’s transformation in us.

Sometime ago, I encountered a Bible Study regarding God’s amazing grace, that it has the power to transform us. Imagine that it is raining outside and you wanted to get wet – soaking wet. Literally, you will stay out there in the rain for as long as you want to and let the pouring rain drench you for good. God’s grace is similar in some ways.

Open your heart to heavens and start receiving God’s mercy. There’s plenty of supply.

Do not change your life. Let God transform you from the inside out. It’s more meaningful that way.

Exercise Your Hope

“So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word.” Hebrews 10:23 AMP

A week ago, someone had ignited something negative in my ears. I was suppose to fight back and say something that would not be so pleasant to his ears also but instead I told the other person in my mind “thank you for training my patience”. I ignored the whole situation and after that … nothing negative happened anymore.

When we hold back and let a situation pass, we disarm anger and revenge so that it becomes harmless and ineffective and then both of you win – no negative consequences after.

My point is – when you face difficult people, tell yourself or the person “thank you for training my patience”.

Honestly, our patience does need training and exercise and to me, it is the best place to practice brain plasticity – adaptation of change.

But what if the situation is at a higher level of difficulty. What if you face an unbearable hardship. What if you are given a terminal disease. What if you lost something precious in your life. What if your hardship becomes a daily occurrence. What if the funds you have in the bank is not able to buy groceries. What if your spouse is not doing what she/he is supposed to do like keeping the sanctity of your vows. What if your kids are rebelling and doing drugs and premarital sex. What if your only child all of sudden decided he wants out from your house.

Can you still say, “thank you for training my patience”. Most likely “not”, because we are humans. We have limitations and we needed someone to help us.

So where do we get help?

The correct answer is from God. We get help and encouragement from Him.

But how? He is up there somewhere!

The other day, I had an interesting conversation with someone who is not a Christian yet but his heart is already wide open and was asking a lot of difficult questions about God, Jesus, Holy Spirit. Simple but difficult questions and it requires explanation. Why did God sent His son? Can’t He do it himself? Who wrote the Bible? What is the Holy Spirit? What is prayer?

I am not an expert in the Bible. I read the Bible daily just like most of you and I’ve never attended Bible school and my knowledge is not to the max regarding Biblical knowledge … but one thing I’ve done to myself is I stopped asking the “why questions”. I just start believing what the Bible says to me in my heart. When you get a chance, try it. It will change your life.

I was able to explain to him most of the questions but I know that even if my answers were believable, he will have to take his own belief to the next level.

“God so loved the world that He send his Son to us that whosoever believes the Son (Jesus) will not perish but will have everlasting life” John 3:16

All we have to do is believe. That simple and why not?

How hard is it to believe in Him? Is it really that difficult to just say “Lord, I believe in You”.

The Christian faith does not end at believing God. That is just the beginning. When you believe in God, you become hungry and thirsty and you want to know more about Him.

The source of information is the Bible. Although written by humans, the Bible was given to man through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Think of it this way – you are alone by yourself and then inside you someone is telling you to write something and then all of a sudden you transcribe the ‘inspiration’ -what was given to you – in words and put it in writing.

Ok, I don’t want to mislead you too much about how the Bible came along. Bottom line is, when you read the Bible daily, you will realize that it’s message does not come from mere human beings – it must have come from a guy who knows everything.

That will be your homework – to find God’s daily message for you.

The reason why I mentioned “believing God and believing the Bible” earlier is because those are the foundation of the Christian faith. God and His Words.

But why the Bible is so vital in our faith?

1. The Bible is God’s way to talk to us. Honestly, I have not heard God’s voice talking to me in my ears. He does sometimes in my heart and sometimes I cried joyfully, but in ordinary days like today, I read His Bible to tell me something. That is why I kept coming back for more everyday and I hope you are doing the same thing.

2. The Bible has God’s promises. Those promises are there for you and me and it is free. No strings attached. All you have to do is believe. You don’t even have to get out of bed to get it.

3. You need the Bible to exercise your hope. Many times in my lifetime I’ve experienced super difficult situation and most often it looks so impossible in my eyes. What I noticed and remembered saying are these:

“Lord, you said in the Bible that You will never leave me nor forsake me”, and He did not.

“Lord, you said in your Bible that you will reward me with long life”. I’m still waiting for this since I had a heart attack at age 42, I’m 46 now.

“Lord, You promised that you will provide for me and my family”. He already did.

“Lord, You said Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be given unto me”. He already did.

“Lord, You said You will give me peace and joy”. He already did.

It’s your turn. Find a promise in the Bible and question God about your request.

Got to go for now. I’ve written this entry while lying in bed using my old iPhone 4. I’m getting up from bed now and get my coffee and clif bar and 42 miles of cycling. If I made some mistakes or typos, I got my excuse – blogging in bed using an iPhone;-( )

Guard Who Keeps Watch

“I am the Good Shepherd; and I know and recognize My own, and My own know and recognize Me– Even as [truly as] the Father knows Me and I also know the Father–and I am giving My [very own] life and laying it down on behalf of the sheep.” John 10:14, 15 AMP

“Shepherd-someone who watches over a group of people.”

We constantly make decisions every waking minute. There are times that we choose to do something in a snap and then we realize that we made a mistake . But then when you want to hit the “undo” button, we are brought to a surprise – “undo” is not possible. You really must have to face the consequences if our actions and there are no other choices available.

When we walk in faith, there is a promise in the Bible called the promise of protection, one that says I am a Good Shepherd .. that no matter what we do, He is always there for us to guide us in ways that we don’t even know. When we go astray or veered off from the righteous path, He is there to tell us “hey, you need to get back into the path that I prepared for you”. Imagine a GPS that is constantly telling us that when we follow a road that was not laid out in the direction, the GPS system will constantly remind us, “follow this road” or “exit now” or “make a u-turn”

All we have to do is listen to His small voice and then take actions. It’s there.

Suffering is Temporary

“[But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us!” Romans 8:18 AMP

We all suffered to some degree in our lifetime. Some of us will experience hardship in the form of sickness, mental torment, financial lack, betrayal, isolation, loneliness, heartaches, loss of a job, loss of a child, loss of a father or mother, loss of pride, loss of a limb or part of a body, loss of faith, loss of trust and the hardest of all – the loss of hope. In one word, it is called suffering and it’s not easy.

I understand that there is no magic word to get out from our suffering. I know that sometimes we have to go through all the hardships before we can appreciate the true meaning of the situation.  Once we fully immersed through the hardest of the hardest of time and we are able to see the effect of suffering and we say to ourselves – “I know why I went through all the sufferings.”

I want to give you hope as Paul mentioned in this verse that these sufferings is nothing compared to the glory that we will experience as we are being transferred to our next final place.  Better yet, even while we are here on earth, we are provided a way out to our bad situation.

Keep the faith!

Give Up Now!

"Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you in the way that you should go." Isaiah 48:17 AMP

Growing up as a child, I’m always reminded by these words in our home library that says: "The greatest mistake is giving up". Up to this day, those words are embedded in me. Part of the reason why I’ve chosen endurance cycling and swimming as my favorite pastime was the mindset of not giving up. You really have to put a lot of negative energy in me before I say "I am done" or “I quit” or I’m abandoning this idea” or “I will choose another path”.

But…

Sometime in the 90’s, I’ve violated that idea of not giving up. I can’t really remember the details but I know somehow I gave up something that changes the course of my life forever.

In my 2nd year in college in Cebu, I discovered the self defense art of Aikido.   I fall in love with the sport and started attending practice twice a week.  I formed friendship with a few group of people in that circle.  At that time, there were only a handful Aikido practitioners in Cebu and the training was held in a private home somewhere in Talamban.  On the weekends, I really have to put an effort to go to the dojo just to get my training for 2 hours but I did not care about the long commute.  It was fun and exciting and I know in my heart that Aikido will become a central core of my life. I started reading books about aikido and I consumed other materials in related subject also.  I was drawn to spirituality.

At the same time, I took up cycling as part of weekly activities.  I was in my 20’s at that time and I had a stable job, no commitments and I just had all the time for anything that I wanted to do.  Basically, I was living a great life.  I counted 5 years of Aikido training in me and I was really drawn to the spiritual side of it too.  One of the likes I have with my Aikido training was the peace of mind and self-control that I’ve attained through the training.  No doubt that I was in perfect peace at those years [I thought] .  I practiced meditation and stillness and mindfulness and become good at it.  I was in total control of my body, mind and spirit. Later did I know that in the coming year I have to give it up.

In 1989, I had two cycling accidents, the first one was only minor.  I hit a pedestrian crossing the road and I did not have time to react and collided the person head on.  My mindfulness and awareness skills failed me.  On the 2nd accident, while I started climbing a steep bridge at the foot of Mactan Bridge, A car hit me from behind. I was dragged for a total distance of 9 feet according to the police report.  My bike was crumpled underneath the car but fortunately I survived with no broken bones.  The injuries I received were a bruised buttocks, bleeding elbows and bleeding knees. Other than that, I was fine.

Looking back now, I learned that the two cycling accidents were the turning of my life.  Through that intervention, I was led to join a local church and became a born again Christian.  While attending church regularly, I resumed my Aikido practice on the weekends and resumed meditation.  I love the calming effect of meditation and the outcome after doing it.  It feels like you are in perfect harmony with life.

One day during the Wednesday service, my pastor called out for a Baptism of the Holy Spirit [read more about it] I was only around 3-month old in my walk as Christian and I was not fully immersed yet of the full effect of the power of God.  I attended church, read my Bible everyday, daily prayer meetings, sing songs, raised my hand in worship but at that point I was just a simple follower of the faith and nothing else [no boldness].  My pastor was preaching the Valley of Dry Bones that evening and at the end of the service, he called out for believers – those who wanted to commit their lives fully to Christ.  I said to myself that I’ve already done that a  few months ago but the altar call seemed like it was calling me again and I was confused.  Then the pastor explained that he was talking about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and you must receive it.  I was skeptic at that time but in my heart I said, ok, I will go up to the front and do it.  On the background, the church band was playing “Only By Grace” and I closed my eyes and raised my hand towards heaven and totally surrender my life to Him and I said in my prayer that I will do anything for Him.  As silence dominated in my mind, I heard this voice in my heart telling me what to do.  There was a long list of the things that I needed to get rid of and I said, yes Lord, I will.  As the prayer progressed, I felt something in me, it was like a flowing river of goodness flowing through my whole body and then all of a sudden I was speaking in a strange language.  I did not fully understand what it was at that time but all I can say that it was a great feeling.  Later on, I then realized that it was a touch from Heaven.  From that time on, boldness and confidence and trust began to grow within me and it carried me even up to this day. My life was transformed.

After that day, the rest of my life evolved.  I later gave up Aikido and meditation and replaced it with prayers and meditation.  Yes, I was a quitter – for the right reasons.

I know that some of you are skeptics about my experience but please understand that it was real for me and to the rest of the brothers and sisters in Christ.  The experience exists and if you are at the end of your rope, please know that there is one thing that you have not done yet – give up your life for Christ.

To Brent and Brittney, when you come across this journal, please know and understand that without the Holy Spirit in you, things that you do, things that you know well is powerless. May you guys one day stumble upon the mystery I once experienced. It was a great revelation – it transformed my whole life to a new beginning.

1. Find a spirit filled church
2. Read your Bible daily and ask for revelation
3. Pray

Being Quite

“A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4 AMP

It’s very odd of me blogging almost daily. I have to teach myself to be more expressive and open. I am normally a quite person who can make anyone feel so uncomfortable with my deafening silence. I used the silence technique very often to weed out true friends.

I’ve learned this truth before that talk is cheap, too much talking can cause you a lot of trouble. I’ve also learned that when you are a quite person, people will carefully listen to you when you speak.

Our tongue has a special purpose, it is designed to uplift others. It’s job is to build up a person and not destroy. It’s for encouragement, it is for giving hope and assurance that everything will be alright. It’s not for gossiping nor for destroying a character or reputation.

So if you find yourself not uplifting someone, it is time to close your mouth.

I better keep quite now since I’m talking too much already.

“The true measure of friendship is when silence is comfortable”.

Regards to all.

When You Believe…

“But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.” Isaiah 40:31 AMP

When you believe…
1. Strength/Power renewed
2. Weariness is removed , no mental and physical fatigue
3. Enormous supply of energy [physical/mental/spiritual]

Handcrafted By God

“The heavens tell about the glory of God. The skies announce what his hands have made. Each new day tells more of the story, and each night reveals more and more about God’s power.” Psalm 19:1, 2 ERV

Sometimes we question ourselves why we are placed in a difficult situation. When disaster strikes, we automatically resort to questions such as these:
What did I do wrong to deserve this?
Why me? Why it has to be today?
Can I get a break from problems?
Why betrayal?
Why sickness?
Why calamities?
Why I have to suffer?
Why lack?
Why am I poor and needy?
Why am I always a victim?
Why I worry so much?
Why I’m depressed?
Why my panic attacks persists?
Why I’m jealous?
Why I envy my friends or neighbor or coworker?
Why?
Why?

The simple answer is this-we are asking the wrong question.

The right questions to ask are these:
How can I see my difficult situation as part of God’s workmanship?
How can I connect my misfortune to the Will of God?
What this change meant to me and my future?
What is the hidden message of my situation?

If God can create the heaven and the earth, how simple do you think it is for Him to fix our personal problems. If we compare the design of the earth systems or the inner working of human body or nature itself, our issues in life is really nothing compared to the complexity of how those things were intricately thought of in the design phase. There are even things that we have not truly found an explanation, yet we know that they are functioning well.

Of course, God does not and maybe will not “in a sound of thunder” solve our problems with His magic wand. Although sometimes it happened and miraculous event occurs and then our problems just disappear. But for the ordinary people, we have to listen, we have to open our eyes and we have to be sensitive to His whispers. There is one thing He gave us, the power of choice and obedience. Even by just following His teachings is more than enough to get us in the right direction in solving a problem. Take for example sickness, if you stop drinking or stop smoking, stop having sex outside marriage or stop doing things that are harmful to your body, you might end up with a healthy body. Or in a relationship, if you stop lying or hiding something from your spouse or maybe stop hurling insults you might end up with a stronger relationship. Or at work, maybe you are accustomed to working dishonestly, why not give 110% to your employer, do that and in the long run your boss will take notice of your unparalleled integrity and hard work.

Don’t wait for God to mold you. He already did. Our remaining duty is to just polish and finish what He had started in our life.

Always remember, we are handcrafted by God.

Value of Waiting

"Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord." Psalm 27:14 AMP

I needed this verse to encourage me.

A person close to me lost her job as she came back from her month long vacation. She was in her job for 17 years and was already established, settled and so satisfied at this workplace that we thought this will be her last job before retirement (we are in our mid 40’s). The whole family was shocked about the news since we never expected it to happen. As the effect of the loss of the job settled in our heart, I began to wonder where this event is taking us.

My mind is not shaken anymore with this type of event. Having a growth mindset, I know that this event is a gift and not a curse. I know that this has a positive output in general and will eventually produce a better outcome in the long run.

Three days ago, I pulled out my spreadsheet and redo my monthly budget and deleted the "other" income to show only the budget with my sole income. I was in for a shock. In numbers, my budget was showing the negative symbol. I have a college daughter, and another one going to college next year. I have a mortgage payment, 2 car payments which one I just recently purchased because my son just started driving as he finishes high school this year. In short, I will not be able to sustain the family financially for long. Yes, I saved aggressively and had accumulated enough savings to last for a few months but the question in my mind was long term. We had never experienced a job loss in our lifetime and we tend to stay at one workplace forever. We don’t like change and we always had contingency plans to prevent such things to happen, but this time, we let our guard down.

As a firm Christian believer, I know what to do. I know that I have to wait and expect from God no matter what. It might look too crazy at this time but I know that even in the midst of all these uncertainties, I know in my heart that the Lord has a long line of blessings laid out in front of me.

I will wait and I will expect from God no matter what.

Dig Another Well; A New Beginning

"Lift up your eyes on high and see! Who has created these? He Who brings out their host by number and calls them all by name; through the greatness of His might and because He is strong in power, not one is missing or lacks anything." Isaiah 40:26 AMP

DIGGING ANOTHER WELL
“Water well-a deep hole or shaft dug or drilled to obtain water”

When your water well is taken away from you, don’t resist, give them your water well and dig another one.

Please read the passage below about Isaac’s ordeal. Pay attention in how he reacted when his water well was taken away from him.

"And the Lord appeared to him and said, Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I will tell you. Now Isaac’s servants dug in the valley and found there a well of living [spring] water. And the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, The water is ours. And he named the well Esek [contention] because they quarreled with him. Then [his servants] dug another well, and they quarreled over that also; so he named it Sitnah [enmity]. And he moved away from there and dug another well, and for that one they did not quarrel. He named it Rehoboth [room], saying, For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land." (Genesis 26:2, 19-22 AMP)

Today, our life will forever change again. Something happened to one of our water well and we have to find another one. I’ve known this Bible truth that when something unpleasant happens, I will not argue or wrestle my way out to keep it. I will just simply "dig another well".

I WANT TO SEE A MIRACLE
Last week, a coworker of mine asked me about the power of my faith. Is it real? Is it just made up? Is God real? What’s your proof? Who wrote the Bible? Where they got the idea? Where was God before He existed? Who is Jesus? Was His miracle real? For the most part, I failed to answer his inquiry. I could not explain to him my faith. I just told him that I used to be like him "full of questions" about the existence of God but then one day, I came to realize that He is real and out of the blue I started believing in Him.

Later in our conversation, he mentioned that his father in-law is lying in the hospital bed with a breathing apparatus and not moving at all – vegetative state. I quickly realized why he grilled me those questions earlier, he needed a miracle. After work, I went to his father in-law’s ICU room by myself and introduced myself to strangers that "I’m a friend of someone" and I could see in their eyes questions of why I was there. I was not related to them but they welcomed me. I placed my hand over to the man in bed lying lifeless but all his vitals are working. I stared at his still and non-moving eyes for 15 minutes without saying a word. In me was just a prayer, "Lord, show me a miracle".

Nothing happened since then and my faith did not produce anything positive to this family. Yesterday, I received a call that he will be kicked out from the ICU and I don’t have any words to say but just prayers to the heavens. I know that God heard my prayer.

Going back to my topic on "Digging another water well", The blessings in my life is the proof that God existed. I cannot put a scientific evidence of His existence, I just simply believed in my heart that He is there for me. You can argue with me with different reasons that contradicts the existence of God but I know in my heart that He really existed through the things that happened and did not happen.

When you live a life filled with blessings, you really cannot discount the fact that there must be someone behind all these. That is my only proof and nothing else.

Regards to all.

Shelf Life of His Words

“Sky and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” Matthew 24:35 AMP

When God promised you something in the Bible, He will deliver it. When he said “I will never leave you nor forsake you”, He will not. When He said that “I will Bless you and guide you”, He will. When He said that “I ordered/arranged the path of the righteous, He will and will always put us in a place/circumstance that might be impossible at first, but actually the best place any man could ever imagined because His promises in the Bible has no shelf life and does not contradict itself.

True Freedom

“So if the Son makes you free, you are really free.” John 8:36 ERV

“Freedom- the condition or being free; power to act, speak or think without externally imposed restraints. Being free is to be able to act at will, not hampered, not under compulsion.”

Ever been angry to someone? Ever been offended by someone? Ever been angry at your boss at work that the moment you hear his/her voice, your internal systems starts to boil. Ever been accused of something you did not do and the moment you start remembering the details, it makes you feel down and depressed? Ever been told that you are not good enough and every time you do something, you doubt yourself. Ever done something horrible and you had been keeping it a secret in your entire life? Ever felt guilty that one day back in your younger days you made a “snap judgment” that destroyed a friend’s image or reputation. Ever had spoken a word that had to be kept inside yourself but because you we’re emotional, you said it anyway. Ever been betrayed by someone you dearly loved? Ever betray ed someone’s trust and you did something that you are not supposed to.

Ok, you get the point…

All those examples produces a state of bondage – the state of being under control of a force, influence or abstract power.

I never knew or felt that I did not have freedom until I gave my life to Christ. For some “unknown” reasons, when you say, Lord, “I believe in You”, something happens in the spirit realm. Think of an imaginary shackles in your hand and feet being removed and thrown away and someone telling you “you are free”.

It is hard to explain but when you start believing that Christ really went to the cross for us, you will see amazing things unfold in your life.

Experience true freedom.

A Different Freestyle Technique

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JukMa6-V1pE]

Left arm and left foot in sync and not opposite.

852,076,800 seconds of Helping

“Help each other with your troubles. When you do this, you are obeying the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 ERV

“Love + help. Helping your partner is an expression of deep love.”

27 years ago [June 16, 1986] was the beginning of my journey with my wife Britta. We met a month ago but on the 16th, that was the official day of “falling in love”. It was a day of unspeakable joy and enormous release of excitement that changes my life forever. Ours is a story most common to man – typical boy meets girl kinda’ thing. It started with a “like” and then got upgraded to “love”. We first met in my little hometown called Merida. A very small town in the Leyte Island, Philippines where I was raised. I am a “province boy” and she was a “city girl” from another island called Cebu. She actually lived in Mandaue City, one of the active city in the Cebu island. She was there in my hometown just visiting relatives because her father was from my place also. Right from the start, my chances of “acquiring” her was already high because her father knows my family and even a close friend of my mother.

In our culture, we marry someone for life. Also we don’t marry just one person, we marry the whole family including pets if they have one. Of course not all marriages are like that but more or less, when you say “I Do”, it is a lifetime commitment and no expiration nor a fine print that you can return them if disagreement exists in x number of years.

We fall in love so quickly. Our relationship was growing strong like a well watered plant. We talked for hours on the phone even after a whole day of spending time with each other. We met regularly at Gaisano Metro card section at 1pm every Saturday and she was always 30 minutes late. There were no cellphones at that time and I have to use a pay phone or someone else’s home phone to talk to her. To me, talking to her on the phone is like launching a space shuttle … it was a big effort but I usually find ways to get in touch with her.

At the beginning, I know this was the girl for me. I had a few relationships before her but I had to make a difficult decision. I know in my heart that I’ve hurt someone when I decided to get serious with this girl but I did not care at that time. To me, “owning” this person was the objective. Looking back now, I’ve realized that I’ve handle the situation in a manner not up to a high standard. My deep apology to those I’ve offended. I will find you someday and explain to you everything.

27 years of being together does not guarantee a lasting relationship. I think we just started on Phase 2. We all know that there are couples who had been with each other for 50 years and yet separates due to some undisclosed/unknown reasons.

My marriage is not perfect at all. We fight, we argue, we ignore each other sometimes. “I want this” “You don’t listen to me”. “Why do you have to go to the mall every week?”. “Why your decision always get carried out?”

Even now, my wife is on vacation without me. There are no more 4 hours of phone talk. Even if we have FaceTime at our disposal to connect face to face, we can only last at most 5 minutes max.

Did we lost traction in our relationship? Are we falling out of love? Are we going to split up one day? Have we forgotten the great memories we had during the first 2 years? Does the excitement to see each other forever gone?

I don’t expect those things to happen in my marriage. I know that there is season for everything. We have kids now, we have greater responsibilities. We have a different schedule therefore it produces different sleep patterns and then produces an non synchronized mood. I’m tired and she just woke up and ready for work. Her being in night shift created a change to each others emotion.

Overall, I’m not concerned at all because I know that our relationship was not built overnight. Our relationship was built with joy and sorrows altogether for years and going through those tearful moments of desperation build inner trust that is hard to disassemble and forget. We might be silent for most of the time, we might be showing an act of “unloving” and “uncaring” but I know that we don’t mean it so deeply that we will end up a decision one day to forget each other forever.

Back to my point on today’s verse that “we ought to help each other with our troubles”. I think relationships specially marriage should be centered on that idea.
Are you helping your wife?
Are you doing things to help your husband/wife?
Does your hobbies contribute to the well being of you partner?
Does your crazy shopping build your relationship stronger?
Does your spending time with friends help your husband/wife?
Does your partying with friends without your spouse build your relationship?
Does your mindless tv watching all day help your partner?
Does your drinking helps your wife/husband?
Does your chatting/ flirting helps your marriage?
Does your abusive words helps to strengthen your bond?
Does your questioning of judgment helps the other person feels freedom and respect?
Does your obsession on something builds your marriage?
Does your nagging helps?

When we began a relationship with someone, we always start with “I like you”. Then in a few months, the closeness develops into something called love and so we say “I love you”. But love does not carry us forever. We can say “I love you” daily and not helping our partner physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually – the result will not be pleasant. We need more than the word “love” . Couple part ways not because they fall out of love, they separate because one becomes a burden – instead of a helper. Always creating problems instead of solutions.

A helper on what? On everything! On anything!

Be a helper and not just a lover. Love is an action word.

Marketing Strategy or Truth?

“When people sin, they earn what sin pays—death. But God gives his people a free gift—eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 ERV

On December 22, 2008, I was 42 then. A healthy cyclist and a distance swimmer when I had my 2nd encounter with death. The first one was in 1989 during a bike accident when a car hit me from behind. I was dragged for 9 feet holding on to the right front tire. I saw everything happened and even to this day I can still picture the actual event. I survived with only two wide scars in my buttocks and no broken bones and was not admitted to the hospital because my injuries were more like an emotional one than physical. The 2nd experience was in 2008, three days before Christmas. I got up early that morning and rode 10 miles in my indoor bike. My body was tired but I pressed on thinking that it was just a flu. I took a shower and ate breakfast and then proceed to my household chores – ironing the laundry. I was halfway in the ironing of the pile of laundry when my left arm felt numb and a pressing pain in my upper left chest close to the left shoulder persisted and did not go away even after relaxing my hand. I asked my wife Britta to give me some water but after 3 minutes, the pain was still there. I know something was wrong but I did not know what it was. With the help of a search engine, I entered the phrase “numb hand upper left chest pain”. The search engine indicated that it is a ” heart issue”. There was no urgency, I changed clothes and walk to the car as normal. As I sat down very still and calm with the front seat reclined, I was wondering if this was the end of me. Many questions crossed my mind; Did I prepare my family for my departure? Did I mentored my two kids to the best of my ability? Did I loved my wife to the fullest? Did I left enough notes at work so that my coworkers can crack the code of all the things I’ve worked on. When did I last talked to my mother? When did I last talked to all my sisters? Did I left a mark in my lifetime?

The pain was steady at threshold somewhere in 9 or 10. My breathing was fine and pulse was around 50. When we arrived at the ER, the medical team went into a full alert. After 2 hours of studies on my symptoms, they ruled out everything but a myocardial infarction – I had a full blown heart attack, my left anterior descending was 100% blocked. Some people said that I was lucky but my doctor explained to me why I survived. My collateral arteries were opened and during the interruption of blood flow, those alternate pathways sustained my heart to keep going. This is only possible when a certain individual raises their heart rate at a longer time during exercise. I biked and swim regularly.

Noticed on the questions I had earlier, I did not remember thinking about heaven or eternity. What I do recall was the thought of “I will miss this world”. I was puzzled for years why I had that thought instead of being so excited about the promise of eternal life – the streets of gold, the endless singing, the interaction with angels and the 24/7 access to the throne of God. The Bible said that there will be no more tears and no more pain.

But why would I not think of that?

The answer to that question is found in this verse – eternal life is a free gift.

When things are free, we tend to forget that it is there. Think about the air you breathe or the sunlight or the water flowing in the river. Those are priceless things and we don’t even take notice of their existence.

My point here is, why not take the free gift? You are not going to lose anything. Ok, no one really knows that those promises existed but think of it wisely, if you do not believe that heaven is real and comes the end of your life and it is real, what would you do? Now if it is real and comes your expiration on earth, all you have to do is transition to the new place, did you lose anything? No. Did you gain anything? Absolutely yes! A safe passage to the Kingdom of Heaven.

But please, don’t think of heaven like that. I mentioned in that manner because some of us here in this earth are so smart and stubborn and we want logic or science to explain everything for us before believing.

I was carefully studying scientists and their findings but the more they found molecular level truths, the more I am convinced that there must be a creator of all these things on earth.

Don’t pass on the free gift, it is indeed free and the only thing that you have to do is believe in Christ.

How simple is that. It is not a marketing strategy.

P.S. There are more benefits after you take the free gift. More on this later.

Wealth Generator

“Don’t ever say to yourself, ‘I got all this wealth by my own power and ability.’ Remember the Lord your God is the one who gives you power to do these things. He does this because he wants to keep the agreement that he made with your ancestors, as he is doing today!” Deuteronomy 8:17, 18 ERV

“Generator is someone who originates, causes or initiates something”

In 1990 back in my New York days when I just arrived from a different country to be with my wife, she is an RN. I could not see my future in this country. Although I had BSEE in my résumé and two years of industrial experience right after college, somehow finding my dream job was a blur. 2 months after I came here, I could not stand still knowing that there is really no available jobs for me. When I received my immigration papers to be able to work, I took a wild step into the unknown – I joined the US Army. Little did I know that my actions will bring me to places that I’ve never been. I’m not talking about just physical places but places in my heart that will shape me as a person. I spent 4 years in the service and on the first year – puts me back to Asia again away from my then pregnant wife. My daughter Brittney was born when I was in mountains of South Korea near the DMZ in 1991. I was a 2 years old Christian at that time and my faith was already in my heart settled as a rock. But during my solitude in South Korea for one year, I had doubts and full of questions about my faith. Most times I ask God in prayer why He brought me to a place of despair. I was suppose to be with my wife in America enjoying the abundance of life and fulfillment. Although I met good buddies while in Korea and had become accustomed to military life, my recollection of that chapter in life is not pleasant.

When my 1 year tour of duty ended, I received orders to report to Ft Hood Texas. I did not even know where that place was but I was excited.

Little did I know that everything was a divine setup even from the beginning, I finished my last 3 years in the Army in Ft Hood. The surprise was coming to my way and two great things happened, Brent was conceived and I landed a job at AMD (advanced micro devices). Fast forward 2.5 years after AMD, a recruiter from Samsung stumbled upon my old Army resume and invited me to join Samsung Austin. It’s been almost 15 years since I started working for Samsung and all is well.

I live comfortably now. The financial lack is not there anymore.

The reason why I mentioned my story here is not to brag about my life.

I want you to know that I would not be where I am today without my faith.

If you are still in college or just beginning your career, please don’t be afraid to take a wild step into the unknown. God has a surprise for you. I am in my mid 40’s and I know that my life did not just happen because of my own effort. Someone from above did it for me.

Be encourage to go on even if you don’t see brightness in front of you.

It will come.

More Forgiveness = Less Bitterness

“Never be bitter, angry, or mad. Never shout angrily or say things to hurt others. Never do anything evil. Be kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other the same as God forgave you through Christ.” Ephesians 4:31, 32 ERV.

When a form of disease is discovered, it is given a name. Naming a disease and the cure is a very critical part in solving a medical problem. Can you imagine if they just say that you have ” a thing” in you and this is the cure. Having a name and identifying what it is makes the battle for the cure seems easy.

Identifying bitterness at an early stage is a great step towards inner peace. We are humans. We feel something because we have emotions. This negative emotion [bitterness] needs our attention often times.

Bitterness can become bigger if not being dealt with. One must be able to identify such feeling at an early stage so that it will not turn into a complicated problem. This habit of identifying and dealing with bitterness does not come automatic. Every person need to teach our inner being how to acknowledge it and know the signs that it exists and then take actions.

One way to deflate/diffuse bitterness is to expose it. Talking about it can sometimes help in disarming the ticking bomb inside you.

The Bible has a better solution – forgiveness.

The ultimate cure for bitterness is forgiveness. For some reason this seems to be the best antidote for being bitter.

More forgiveness = less bitterness

Forgive yourself for not meeting your high expectations .
Forgive yourself for not being so successful as your old classmates.
Forgive someone who offended you in some way.
Forgive your husband/wife when you think she/he offended you.
Forgive your boss for being an unfit leader.
Forgive your friend for the silence.
Forgive your kids for not satisfying your dreams.
Forgive your co worker for being so insensitive.
Forgive your parents for not being there when most needed.

There are so many situations where we can use forgiveness to melt down the bitterness in us.

Exercise your ability to forgive.

Invention of Sin

“All have sinned and are not good enough to share God’s divine greatness. They are made right with God by his grace. This is a free gift. They are made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ.” Romans 3:23, 24 ERV

Sin by definition “is an act that is regarded by theologians as a transgression of God’s will”.

A few weeks ago, I’ve finished reading the book “The brain that changes itself” by Doige. Last night I just finished Chapter 8 of Rewire your Brain” by Arden. One more chapter and I will make a short summary. The main point of the two books is to expose the mechanics of the human brain. How does it work? Why we feel sad? Why are we happy? How did we get so excited about love and romance? And why it dies? Why are we brave? Why are we timid? Why are we so sensitive sometimes? Why are we tired? Why are we addicted to drugs, thrill and beautiful creatures? Why do we obsess on something that is not real? It is good to know the science of our thinking. When you get a chance, grab the book.

Once I’m done reading, I am planning to write my first book called “The antidote of unhappiness”. In it will be one chapter, with one page and the word “Sin no more”.

Seriously, if I will to summarize the things that I’ve read about being happy and peaceful, it will come to this – walk in the righteous path – that’s it.

Try cheating your spouse for example, how will that action affects you? Or hurt another person, will you be happy or sad? Or be lazy at work. Try gossiping. Try being jealous and envious. There is a science behind all the effects after we do things. It’s like a cause and effect explanation of things. You do something and there will be consequences.

The Bible mentioned “sin” long before we even realize the severity of the consequences. There is a negative consequence.

I’d like to suggest though, don’t be running around thinking “I will not sin”. It does not work that way. Read the passage at the beginning of this post over and over until you fully grasp the antidote of sin.

Always remember, we cannot do it on our own strength. No way. No other way except believing that it is given to us freely.

Cornerstone-The Only Stone

“Jesus is ‘the stone that you builders thought was not important. But this stone has become the cornerstone.’ Psalm 118:22 Jesus is the only one who can save people. His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save anyone. We must be saved through him!”” Acts 4:11, 12 ERV

When we build something, they always remind us that we must have a solid foundation or else the structure will crumble.

I wish I have known this truth long time ago and I would not have wasted a lot of effort and time on something else.

When I was a child, I remember a booklet given to me about Christianity. In it was a picture of 2 chairs, one chair – the word “you” was sitting on it and the other chair, a “cross”. I never understand the true meaning of the symbolism until I began my journey of faith.

It means that Christ has to sit in my chair. It means that everything I do must be Christ centered. It means that my beliefs has to revolve around the teaching of Christ . It means that my other business in life must also be connected to Christian principles. It means that when I make a decision, I have to consult Him. It means that when I face adversities, I must refer to His promises. It means that when people persecute me, I must remember that He also went through the same predicament. It means that my mind will always have a online connection to Him.

These sounds like an impossible task to take on. “I have to do all that?” you may ask.

The truth is, No. Once you have connected your life to Christ, the reprogramming starts and the transformation will change your heart daily as you walk in your own journey. The change is gradual and fulfilling.

Jesus, the Cornerstone. Our Cornerstone.

Did we invent God?

“This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him.” 1 John 4:9 ERV

At the church yesterday, in front of me was a 6 years old boy with his mother. During the praise and worship part of the service where we sing songs, clap our hands and raise our hands towards heaven, I had a short lesson regarding “beliefs”. In my mind, I was asking how can this little boy expresses worship from the bottom of his heart? How can he know God at such an early age? How come he is able to clap his hand so freely and sing joyful songs as much as the other people beside him do? I was just so amazed by his actions because I know that when I was his age, I did not do that. Did we just invent God and then through examples, bible studies, storytelling and nurturing, conditions our children to believe what we adults think about God? Or was his gesture genuine and it did really comes from his own beliefs and not from his mother.

We learn and come to know God because someone in someways somewhere told us so and we believed.

In the most basic sense, that is how we learn about something… and then we believed it.

Many scientists nowadays has more resources to use at their own disposal to explain our beliefs in God. They discovered amazing theories that explains how things come into being and it’s interconnection to something called faith. Some had came out with published materials exposing our invention of God in our minds.

I cannot explain my faith. When someone told me that God loved me, it just so happen that I latched on to the idea but then things around me started to change. So I decided, God must be there and all I have to do is keep believing in Him daily and so far all I got are all positive things. Why would I not believe in God?

Why not?

Standard of Living-2 Sides

“People who work for peace in a peaceful way get the blessings that come from right living.” James 3:18 ERV

Standard of Living-2 Sides

Is there a standard of living imposed to man? Are we really bound to do something a certain way? Who said this is normal? What is normal? What is righteous? What is the right way and what is the wrong way? Is insulting people a righteous action? Is hurting a spouse or a friend a normal thing to do? Is my lustful thinking abnormal? Is looking at beautiful objects and adoring them normal? Is drinking alcohol normal? Is my gossiping normal? Is telling a lie abnormal? Is my obsession normal? Is my anxiety and depression normal? Is my anger normal ? Is going to church normal? Is praying normal? Is praising and worshiping God normal? Is blogging normal? Is telling my life story normal?

Who draws the normal line?

When I engaged in a deep conversation with a friend, I’m always asked “what is normal and where do you get it?” Is there such thing as “normal”?

[I don’t engage in debates of moral and ethical standard. I normally just leave it hanging and then let my life speaks for itself.]

Then comes next week, he comes back with a story of failure, misfortune, unnecessary loss, an issue with the spouse, problems, fights, arguments financial mistakes etc.

Digging deeper to the issue, I will find truths why the event occurred. The misfortune happened as a consequence of not doing the right thing. Subconsciously, we carry thoughts that are out of the norm and then we come into a situation and we respond the wrong way. Our response to the event produces something unpleasant.

The world is filled with laws. Speed limit for example is there to provide safety to the public. Violate the law and you are in trouble. But life is more than just speed limits. There is always a fine line drawn towards perfection. It will always be there. So what is the secret?

There is no secret.

I have a Christian belief deep down in my soul. I read and study the Bible daily. But what about those people that don’t know Christianity? How would they know that there is a Christian standard and it is coming from the book called the Bible? Does the standard applies to them? Can I just say “hey, I did not know that”. Will that excuse me from following and doing the right thing?

The truth is there is a hidden standard. Some call it a “code of ethics”, moral values, Biblical beliefs etc.

You have to have one or else life will be chaotic or each day you will be tossed like a flotation device in the middle of the ocean and no specific direction.

Follow those standards and you will not any negative consequences – they call it in simple terms “Blessings”.

What is blessing?

Blessing by definition is “a desirable state”. Do you want it? It is all up to you.

Verbal Output Anomaly-Cure

“We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people who were created in God’s likeness. These praises and curses come from the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, this should not happen.” James 3:9, 10 ERV

As normal human beings, sometimes we open our mouth and express a totally out of the line statement and then later on we recognize that “Oh, I’m not suppose to say that”. The same thing with writing or even visual gesture. There is a person deep in us that needed some taming/training/subduing. The bad news is that we cannot do that on our own. The good news is, there is a way to do it.

1. Establish your belief system.
2. Practice your belief system openly.
3. Do it 24/7 if possible.
4. Pray
5. Praise

Presence of the Holy Spirit

“No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us. If we love each other, God’s love has reached its goal—it is made perfect in us. We know that we live in God and God lives in us. We know this because he gave us his Spirit.” 1 John 4:12, 13 ERV

Scientists are trying to explain the presence of God or make sense of extraordinary things that happen to the faithful. In some ways, their explanation s are “almost” correct, but something is missing – the personal experience – the things we personally feel and experienced. Even myself will always come to the conclusion that He must be there somewhere. Sometimes I question the situation but most often I know He is real.

I never understood my transformation to a new life until the Holy Spirit came. Things just changed dramatically. Habits are now refined and polished and well in obedience with the Word. Mind is well at peace and emotion are well in check.

I can’t explain His presence fully and I know why, He wants you to experience His presence yourself.

To those who come in contact with me in person or through this blog, I encourage you to keep your heart open. Try something different. It’s not places, material things, fame, nor power – it’s the presence of the Spirit that will fill your empty cup.

BookNotes: The Brain That Changes Itself

If I have to come up with a top 5 books that I’ve read,  this one will be in the list.  I’m not going to ruin the surprise but when you get a chance, find a way to acquire and read this book.  Such an eye opener about almost anything related to the way we think and perceive things.

Although this is not a Christian book, the author mentioned Exodus 20:18 in the first chapter.  Good enough for my credibility check at least he reads or know what a Bible verse is.

Exodus 20:18 – “And the saw the voices” [ During all this time, the people in the valley heard the thundering and saw the lightning on the mountain. They saw smoke rising from the mountain and heard the sound of the trumpet. They were afraid and shook with fear. They stood away from the mountain and watched.”

Be Aware of Temptations But…

Hebrews 4:15 ERV

“Jesus, our high priest, is able to understand our weaknesses. When Jesus lived on earth, he was tempted in every way. He was tempted in the same ways we are tempted, but he never sinned.”

Be aware of temptations but don’t give in.

Our responses to an invitation to cross the line between good and bad is a conscious decision we make. Although it might look like it is an auto pilot response, we do have at least 1 second to say yes or no and it is always our own choice. Someone wrote that decisions in life is very simple-it is either 1 or 0 like in the computer language; yes or a no, turn to the left or right, proceed or don’t, call or do not call, talk or do not talk, stay or go, engage or ignore, read or do not read, view or do not view, watch or do not watch, write or delete, yell or stay calm.

But how would you know when to use 1 or 0?

The simple answer lies in your belief system. What is your moral code based of. You have to have a set of life principle to follow. Pick a good and descent principles to live by and these 1’s and 0’s in life isn’t that complicated to execute.

Prepare The Way

Prepare The Way  [Listen in Spotify]
Paul Wilbur

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut7ENK0QRDw]

We were born in the time of triumph
We were born on a battlefield
We were born for a such a time as this
We were born for a true revival
We were born for a harvest field
We were born for a such a time as this

So let the earth shake
Let the stars fall
Let the mountains tremble
We are not afraid
Let the people
Let the faithful stand and say

Prepare the way, He was
Prepare the way, He is
Prepare the way, He is to come

This is the sound of the generation
This is the song of the Royal King
You are born for such a time like this
He will return the declaration
He will appear every eye will see
We are born for a such a time as this

During worship yesterday at Celebration Church, I asked God to explain to me why there is calamity? [Tsunami, 9/11, wars, now Oklahoma tornado] but I came home with unanswered question.  Today, as I opened Spotify and played my favorite Christian music, I stumbled upon the new album by Paul Wilbur “Your Great Name”. This song spoke to my heart and answered my question.  I did not get my direct answer but I remember in the Bible that these days are coming… and warned us not to be surprised.

Our instructions: Prepare The Way

Motive Matters

“People think that whatever they do is right, but the Lord judges the reasons for everything they do.” Proverbs 21:2 ERV

Motive Matters
“Motive-The psychological feature that arouse an organism to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives purpose and direction to behavior.”

A few years ago, my actions were interpreted as ungodly. The incident reminded me of how brutal misconception is. When a person interprets your action as negative or wrong, they start thinking- oh he must be this or that, or he is …., it is called “labeling”, one of the psychological self defeating belief. This belief if left unchecked or unproven most often leads to a greater damage.

There are deeper reasons why I do what I do and sometimes simple human beings outside my circle are unable to fathom the reasoning. Even my own family sometimes is unable to crack the code of why I do the things I do.

How do I select my next action?
1. If the action can benefit others.
2. If the action can glorify the Father.
3. If the action can be learned.
4. If the action can enhance the body, mind and spirit.
5. If the action can uplift someone.
6. If the action can produce a peace of mind.
7. If the action can build endurance and patience.

God can …; Day1058

God can…
I’m trying to find answers why sometimes I experienced impossible circumstances in my life and every time, I came empty handed. Last week a co-worker saw my fried chicken in my lunch plate and automatically declared that I violated my cardiac diet. I told him that I am in >1000 days after stent#2 and left the statement hanging.

When we believe on something, I think that we must also take a step towards faith even deeper by just saying “God can …”

God can heal my heart.
God can protect me.
God can protect my wife and family.
God can give me wisdom at work.
God can heal my broken relationship.
God can heal my mind.
God can help me find a job.
God can provide me a lifetime partner.
God can extend my arms to reach out.
God can use me in a special way.
God can …

24/7 Connection; Day1057

24/7 Connections
We can know everything, we can gain new insights from books, we can acquire great truths from education and experience but always remember that the bottom line is we must always be connected to Christ 24/7.

I won’t be here forever for the three of you but always remember that you saw something in me and it is real. You too must make that connection – faith.

Hoping that new horizons brings joy to you even for just a few days.

2002 Yukon 2WD Retrofit

PROJECT: Old Truck Retrofit
PURPOSE: To prepare the vehicle for a cross country road trip
Previous Destinations:
Texas to Florida – 3x
Texas to New York to DC –1x

My old truck failed the annual safety inspection due to a worn out tires which was installed in 2002 but I was able to persuade the safety inspector to just give me a reminder/note in my inspection paper stating that tires needs replacement.  I was aiming for another year of riding the worn out tires until last week when I was picking up my mail when I accidentally glanced my left front tire with a 3” crack on it and about to become a disaster.  I was left with no choice but to come up with a quick and creative solution.

I decided to enhance the appearance of the vehicle without changing any suspension parts and spending unnecessary product just to make room for an oversized tire.  After a careful mathematical calculation of my wheel clearance with the current setup, I was finally able to pick the right product for my wheel and tire upgrade. Nothing special being done to the vehicle except for the trimming of the left front rubber guard which was rubbing with the wheel when turning full lock to the right.  Other than that, the vehicle is stock.

Dependability: a generic term encompassing the concepts of reliability, availability,
maintainability, security, etc. It is also simply designated by the term
“reliability”, which underlines its quantitative aspect.

The aim of reliability is the study of systems (sets of elements – hardware,
software, human resources – that interact with a view to accomplishing a mission)
that are subjected to physical processes such as the processes of failure,
repair, and stresses.

The component is a part of a system which is non-resolvable within the
framework of the study for which sufficient qualitative information (functioning,
modes of failure, etc.) as well as quantitative information (failure rate, repair
rate, etc.) has been provided in this study. The notion of component is relative
and depends on the study. For example, an aircraft, within the framework of a
study dealing with flight safety, represents the system, whereas for the airline
company it represents a component.

Fault Trees [FT]-quantitative modeling of a system.
– a deductive way of finding faults in a system
– represents a failure mode of a subsystem or component
– if not studying system faults, it is called Event Tree
– to obtain the map of a complex system quantitatively
– to improve reliability
– to find faults of a system
– systematic modeling of a system structure
– to model human errors

Minimal cut sets-the minimal path for studying the reliability of a system [simplified]

Classification of Reliability
1. Component Reliability
2. Reliability Statistics
3. Reliability of Systems

Classes of Systems
1. System components
2. System’s structure function
3. Maintenance Systems
4. Binary systems
5. Multi performance systems
6. Non-repairable systems
7. Repairable
8. The mission

3 Stages of FT Modeling
1. Construction of the tree
2. Qualitative analysis
3. Quantitative analysis
Note: the construction should be exhaustive in nature representing all the significant causes for the failure of the system

3 Questions To Ask
1. What are the failure modes of the component and of the system?
2. How does the system break down?
3. What is the probability of the system breaking down?

image

The Qualitative Analysis
– deals with methods for obtaining the minimal sets: minimal cut sets and minimal paths
– what is the top event?
– what is undesirable?

Reliability Phase Diagram
image
(a) non-repairable system
(b) repairable system
1: state of good functioning
2: state of breakdown

Multi-Component Systems

Whereas in the case of single-component systems the failure in the component
implies the failure of the system, this is no longer the case for
multi-component systems, at least not automatically. The failure in a multi component
system arises in the wake of the failure in the sub-sets of well-defined
components. For example, the failure in one of the four cylinders of a car does
not jeopardize its overall working: it works badly, but it still works. On the
other hand, the failure of the drive shaft leads to the immobilization of the car.

Let us consider the brake system of a vehicle, made up of front
and rear brakes. If the rear brakes are down, we can still continue braking.
On the other hand, if both the brakes are down (front and rear), we can no
longer brake and the braking system is declared to be failed. If the front brakes
be indicated by x1 and the rear brakes by x2, then the braking system of the
vehicle can be described by the function:

image

Elementary structure systems

The distinction between elementary structure systems and complex structure
systems is very useful in matters of reliability. The elementary structure
systems are concerned with series structure and the parallel structure or, more
precisely, the structure k-over-n, which is a generalization of the preceding two
structures. Any system giving a k-over-n structure through successive reductions
is called a elementary structure system. In the contrary case, it is known
as a complex structure system. The structural function of an elementary structure
system is obtained directly using the functions of structures, as described
in the following section. On the contrary, for the complex structure systems,
we require the notions of minimal cut set or of minimal path.

Series system
A system is said to be in series if its functioning is subjected to the simultaneous
functioning of all its components. If just one of its components is failed,
then the system will have broken down.

image

Parallel system
The functioning of this system is assured, if at least one of its components
is in good state. The system will be failed if and only if all its components are
simultaneously failed.

image

Parallel-series system
This is formed by r blocks mounted in series, and each block i constitutes
a parallel system of ij components j =1, …, r.

image

Series-parallel system
This is formed by r blocks mounted in parallel, and each block i constitutes
a series system of ij components j =1, …, r.

image

Systems with complex structure
A system that cannot be directly classified into the preceding cases of elementary
structures is called a system with complex structure. For the study
of systems with complex structure, the concepts of minimal paths and cuts (in
the case of monotone structures) must be introduced. The system in Figure 2.6
is a system with complex structure. This system cannot be directly classified
into modules with traditional structures. If the input/output of this system are
located at the extremities of component 3, it will then involve a system with
elementary structure.

image

Path: a sub-set of components whose simultaneous good functioning will
assure the good working of the system, which is independent of the states of
the other components.

Minimal path: a path which does not contain another path.

Cut set: a sub-set of components whose simultaneous failure leads to the
system failure, which is independent of the states of the other components.

Minimal cut set: a cut set that does not contain another cut set.

Reliability bounds
The exact calculation for the reliability of the systems is very costly (NPhard
problem); that is why the calculation of the bounds, instead of for exact
value, is suitable. We have four types of bounds: the bounds of inclusion–
exclusion, the minimal sets bounds, the “min–max” bounds and the trivial
bounds. Other bounds can be obtained by improving the above-cited bounds
or through the construction of mixed bounds or by a modularization of the
system. It has to be noted that there is a relationship of order among those
four types of bounds. The best bound depends on the problem.

# NOTES: FULL CUP
1 We have a rhythm that moves through us [pulsating heart, breathing, mood, hunger, sleep, energy level etc]
2 Rhythms differs from  person to person
3 Rhythms involves showing up in the world and taking a break [1 and 0 or the yes or no, rest or go]
4 Rhythms involves our capacities for activity, engagement, need for rest, renewal and emptying out of debris
5 Our culture asks us to ignore these deeper rhythms
6 When the rhythms are ignored/disregarded, results are fatigue, undefined illness, tiredness, loss of motivation, loss of sense of peace
7 Begin to listen to and notice how your body and soul want you to live.
8 What are they craving most, and what are some small (and maybe not-so-small) ways you could honor this?
9 Are there places where you get stuck in the movement between engaging in the world and turning within?
10 How might you honor this movement between rest and activity, bringing forth new life and releasing what is stale?
11 What would this honoring look like in your daily, weekly, and monthly life?
12 Experiment in this next month by making small changes and seeing which ones have the biggest impact on your well-being.
13 The Art of Slowing Down [have time]
14 Have time to exercise
15 Have time to read a book
16 Have time to cook a meal
17 Have time to  walk outside
18 Practice the lack of rushing, be a non-rusher
19 Delete the word "hurry" in your vocabulary
20 Remove the personal belief of busyness=being valuable and important
21 Have time to PAUSE! [in the middle of doing something]
22 Choose to walk slowly
23 Sit down and do nothing and think nothing
24 Be more present with yourself
25 Journey to change is complicated but it must be done
26 We chose to rush [not the external forces around us]
27 Practice downshifting very often
28 Are there beliefs you carry about the necessity of being busy that are getting in the way of slowing down?
29 Reflect on any messages you might have picked up about busyness being associated with success or worthiness.
30 What do you fear would happen if you slowed down?
31 Which beliefs and fears are you ready to let go of?
32 Reflect on your relationship to rushing. What changes do you want to make?
33 Are there certain tasks or times of day that might be worth moving through at an intentionally slower pace?
34 What would help you to shift gears even if only for an hour?
35 Experiment with the art of slowing down—find one activity each day that you can intentionally do at a slow pace.
36 Try eating a meal slowly, or next time you drive somewhere take your time as you walk from the parking lot to the building.
37 Take time to notice what it’s like to move at this pace.
38 What do you notice that would have gone unseen, un-tasted, or unheard on another day?
39 Take time-outs.  Sit in a corner and do nothing or think nothing or take a nap
40 Balancing is viewed as fundamental to healing.
41 When the body is stagnant, it needs stimulation to begin moving again
42 When it’s depleted, it needs nourishment
43 When it’s damp and cold, it needs heat
44 When it’s hot and dry, it needs cooling moisture
45 When we’ve been extremely active, we need rest
46 When we’ve been sitting at a computer inside, we need movement outside
47 When we’ve been in our head with too much thinking, we need to reconnect with our heart and our feelings
48 When we’ve been engaged in repetitive tasks, we need inspiration
49 When we’ve been serious, we need some lightness and laughter

101 When slowing down and taking breaks are not enough, the next step is to step away from life in a more significant way.
102 Unplug from daily life and deeply reconnect with self
103 Time being alone is directly proportional to busyness.  If you are too busy, the more time you need to be alone to unwind
104 Quite time is a must.
105 Set aside a day or two for a retreat
106 Unplug for a day or two from anything
107 Go inward for a day-self retreat.
108 Step away from life for a day or two
109 Create space in your life intentionally
110 Radically simplify your life
111 Don’t peek at your next task or next move, stay with the PRESENT, the "NOW"
112 Feel the event at the moment. Be fully present
113 Set aside one day each week to nourish yourself, talk to self, write a journal about self, meditate, sleep, pray.
114 Connect to what matters most
115 Nourish our spiritual being through rest and reflection produces greater balance.
116 Emotional and physical health is as important as the spiritual.
117 Basics of emotional/physical health often times neglected.
118 Self care is essential to being healthy – body, mind, spirit
119 Don’t ignore the very basics of human needs
120 If we are hungry, we take in food
121 If we are tired, we go to sleep
122 If we need to dispose waste, we go to the bathroom
123 There is a simple relationship between what the body needs and how the body responds, ignoring those needs are not being wise
124 As we become older, we tend to ignore or able to tolerate such needs [peer pressure or just merely the drive to succeed]
125 Are you a black belt in ignoring your needs?
126 When your body request downtime, do you drink coffee instead?
127 We have the mindset of work hard-play hard, do whatever it takes [with disregard to the self needs]
128 Hard work and constant busyness are somehow the main theme in our endeavor.
129 We carry certain beliefs that we don’t need to take care of our self needs/care.
130 Sometimes avoiding self-care was a response to having a mother/father who had been extremely self-absorbed and inattentive and we want to do the opposite
131 Don’t wait for your "tank" to be in EMPTY, fill it up

146 Changes takes time.
147 Inhabit-Be present in; exist or be situated within
148 Act intentionally of paying attention to beauty of life/world

151 “The way we do anything can reflect the way we do everything.”
152 Think the NOW – the present, what you are currently doing and do not wander
153 Do every task as if you are in a sacred ceremony.
154 Show up in life and pay attention
155 Sense the things around you
156 Hear the seen and the unseen
157 Do one thing at a time [strictly]
158 You cannot make soybeans into corn; you cannot make someone he’s/she’s fundamentally not.
159 Practice "Hmm … isn’t that interesting?" [get interested in small wonders around you]
160 Ex.1 I’ve got a $50 parking ticket and I have to write an appeal. Say "Hmm … isn’t that interesting?" and find a way to write an essay to avoid the fine.

169 Ex.10 My life has no direction and I’m stucked. Say "Hmm … isn’t that interesting? and write down a list of things in a piece of paper that you have not done or explored – then pick one and do it.
170 Write a journal and tell something about your life.
171 Take a special photograph each day with an intention of finding beauty in it like no one else.
172 4 Questions
173 1. When did you stop singing
174 2. When did you stop dancing
175 3. When did you lose your sense of enchantment with stories, and in particular, your own life story?
176 4. When did you become uncomfortable with silence?
177 Lightness-a feeling of joy and pride
178 Seriousness-opposite of lightness [sort of]
179 Humor and lightness disappear as we mature
180 Life becomes more serious when serious things happen like illnesses or the loss of relationships, loved ones, or jobs.
181 As to-do lists increase and the balance between work and home gets more complicated, humor and fun depart
182 Find enchantment in life by making a difference in the world around us and offer a sense of meaning and fulfillment in our lives
183 Identify things that make you come alive
184 Identify things that deplete you, then avoid
185 How do you relate to difficulty?
186 Sometimes what’s behind our choice to be busy, consciously or unconsciously, is a desire to avoid feeling our pain
187 If you can’t get out of it, get into it
188 Life is filled with crossroad moments, how do you face it?
189 How do you face unpleasant emotions?
190 Common responses: denial, becoming anxious, drinking alcohol, getting busier, blame others, self blame
191 Most human suffering is not getting what we want or getting what we don’t want.
192 The best response to unpleasant experience or emotion – get into it. [face it]
193 Don’t be running around talking about the monster in the closet.  Open the closet and see what this perceived monster really is.
194 Sometimes in life we find ourselves, cursing at situations that are empty of blame. If no one is to blame, get to the next phase – acceptance.
195 Embrace our emotions, it helps to see that often the experiences that bring us to our knees are also what allow us to grow into the fullness of who we really are.
196 Fire of painful feelings, sometimes their presence is a gift in disguise.
197 Know, Accept and Befriend Ourselves
198 All humans, at their core, want to be loved and to feel like they have something to offer
199 I want to be loved. I want to do well.

214 Think of self-compassion during a time of distress but use kindness to others as a method of delivery
215 The secret of happiness: Find something more important than you are and dedicate your life to it

PRACTICE:
1. What difficult emotions do you tend to push away? What feeling do you wish you would never have to experience again? Why?
2. How might you begin to develop a sense of hardiness in your ability to feel the sensations associated with this emotion?
3. Is there someone who could hold space for you to explore the monster-like qualities of these feared emotions?
4. Can you connect to the truth that other humans share this same pain?
5. What have been the tricksters in your life? What has caused you to be shattered? Have you found unexpected gifts in these unwanted situations?
6. Consider writing a vow to yourself. What would you want to say, at the altar, if you were to marry yourself? What commitments do you want to make?
7. What areas of vulnerability are you aware of? How do you respond to their presence?
8. What would it look like to accept and befriend yourself in moments when you feel humbled by life?
9. What tools help you to be in conversation with yourself: journaling, artistic expression, movement, communicating with others either in person or online?
10. What is the connection between kindness and difficulty in your own life?
11. What would it look like and feel like to be kind to yourself in your day-to-day life, especially when you next encounter pain or difficulty?
12. If you notice the presence of critical inner voices, see if you can identify where they come from. Notice, also, what these critical voices want for you and what they’re concerned might happen if they don’t voice their judgment.
13. Reflect on how kindness shows up in your interactions with others.
14. Can you think of a small act of kindness that made a big difference in your life? In what ways do you feel drawn to offer kindness to others?
15. Do you notice a connection between compassion and busyness in your daily life? When you initially feel too busy to be compassionate, what can you do to shift that feeling?
16. Sometimes this awareness, alone, can help us remember that kindness is always an option.

183 Identify things that make you come alive
184 Identify things that deplete you, then avoid

PRACTICE:
”1. Where in your life could you use some humor and lightness: in your relationships, at work, in your ways of approaching self-care?
2. What are some ways of lightening up your life that would work for you?
3. What might be the benefits of such lightness for you—possibly feeling less stressed or finding a greater sense of acceptance or creativity or gratitude in life?
4. Are there stressful situations you can reframe, possibly imaging them to be part of the plot line in a comedy? (Of course, you don’t have to make clay figures.) Play with this mind-set during the week as life challenges you or seems utterly serious. See if this helps to shift your felt sense of busyness.
5. Consider doing the comparison exercised described. Create one side that depicts things that make you come alive and the other representing things that deplete you. Be honest with yourself about what shows up in both sections. Is there anything that surprises you?
6. How can you shift the timing of when or how you do certain activities to lessen the ways in which they exhaust you?
7. Are there ways you can enliven the potentially mundane tasks of everyday life, like waiting?
8. How might you spice up your life with some new adventuresome activities? What would be your version of getting a pet monkey?
9. Are there aspects of your life that have gotten too narrowly defined?
10. What brings you joy, fun, and amusement?
11. Are there new activities you’d like to try or activities you used to do that possibly you’d like to dust off and revisit? These may be hobbies that are purely for your entertainment or endeavors that might be both fun as well as of value to those around you.”

PRACTICE:

“1. How can you support yourself in bringing what you find during your time within back out into your day-to-day life? What might this expression look like?
2. Set an intention to show up fully in this day. What helps you to be in the moment? How does this type of awareness affect your experience of being busy?
3. Play with bringing your attention to your senses. Notice what objects visually catch your eye, what smells and sounds surround you in different places during the day.
4. Notice the things that are very ordinary.
5. Experiment over the next week with what methods work best for you. Does it help to keep a journal, to carry a camera, to write poems, or maybe to cover your fingers in whatever is
sitting right in front of you?  What is your life telling you about who you are? Reflect on this day
or this past week.
6. Consider the question from the perspective of your whole life. What have you learned about yourself?  Notice if you have any fears about really listening to what your life is telling you. If so, what are you afraid you might hear?
7. Try moving into the day with a sense of curiosity, either thinking of the phrase Hmm … isn’t that interesting? or looking for moments that contain messages worth listening to.
8. Consider that what’s around you, whether in nature or otherwise, may hold some teachings that are worth paying attention to.
9. Take some time to reflect on these four questions. Reword them as needed so that they make sense within the context of your life:
When did you stop singing?
When did you stop dancing?
When did you lose your sense of enchantment with stories, and in particular, your own life story?
When did you become uncomfortable with silence?
Are there any other aspects of who you are and what your life is about that have gotten lost along the way? What might you do to reclaim these qualities? “

144 4. Action (engaging in the new behavior)
145 5. Maintenance (sustaining the behavioral change over time)
146 Changes takes time.

“ It’s useful to consider the image of a fuel gauge and to reflect on the place from which we operate in life. Is our tank usually more than halfway full, or do we tend to move through life at near empty? At what point do we tend to fill up, and how do we know when we get to this place? Of course, as we are humans, there is no yellow light that comes on to warn us when we only have 20 more miles in us. Instead, we have to figure out our own indications of when it’s time to fill up. “

“Todd came into counseling after his wife had moved out of the house and his already-present headaches worsened into migraines. It wasn’t until then that he saw how ignoring his
family life and his body was no longer an option. “I guess I got lost in my work, forgetting that other things in life need my attention as well. But this is how my dad was with the hours he worked—I guess I grew up thinking that this was required in order to be successful.”

“Jan came to recognize that, for her, avoiding self-care was a response to having a mother who had been extremely self-absorbed and inattentive in her parenting. “I think I just wanted to be the opposite of her. She was so much more concerned with her own activities and dating relationships
than us. God forbid that picking up her children might get in the way of getting her nails done. I think I’ve been concerned that if I take any time for myself, I might become like her.”

“Kim had made a similar decision in reaction to her husband’s behavior. “He takes so much time for his own hobbies from hunting to golfing to playing poker with the guys, it doesn’t leave any time for me. If I started to take time for myself, who would cook dinner? Who would help the kids with their homework? I’ve just surrendered to the situation because it’s not worth arguing about.”

“Both women needed to see that their choice not to take care of themselves as a reaction to someone else’s extreme behavior was really only hurting them. In Jan’s case, she began trusting
in her ability to balance self-care and caring for others as she came to see that there really wasn’t the slippery slope she had imagined. For Kim, it helped to strategize how she could talk with her husband about ways they could both carve out time to take care of themselves. In doing this, she needed to acknowledge and let go of her role as martyr. She had to question her assumptions that her husband had no interest in her well-being and that it was somehow her destiny to carry
the full load of family responsibilities. “

“Even when we follow the perfect formula for self-care—eating well, exercising, taking vitamins, spending time with friends, praying, thinking happy thoughts when possible—this doesn’t always mean we’ll perpetually reside in the upper quadrants of health.  The reality is that sometimes our best equations for health flow perfectly, and sometimes they fail miserably—it’s a reminder that none of us has complete control over our well-being. It helps to embrace a balanced view that we can do what we can, accepting that there will always be variables, known and unknown, that we can’t control or even understand. Even in its imperfection, it’s still worth doing what we can to maximize our health and vitality. “

PRACTICE:
1. Take some time to reflect on your beliefs and attitudes toward self-care.
2. Where did these beliefs come from?
3. Do these beliefs support you or hinder you?
4. Are there any that you want to revise?
5. What would it look like and feel like to deeply take care of yourself?
6. Imagine yourself living in and from this upper quadrant of health and vitality.
7. How can you find a balance between doing what you can to care for yourself and realizing we can’t always be successful at such attempts?
7. Consider the fuel gauge metaphor: At what point do you usually fill up by taking care of yourself?

Chapters: 6

PRACTICE:
”What would be an ideal way of stepping out of life for you?
How much time would you like?
Would it be structured in one block of time or across multiple days or months?
Would you go away or stay at home?
What qualities would you most like to experience from this time: peace, clarity, strength, joy, gratitude, rest, others?
What activities, or lack of activities, feel like they’d be most restorative?
Put this description in a location where you can see it, in order to let these ideas sink in. In a week or so, revisit what you’ve written down and consider what elements of your plan are possible to make happen.
Think creatively.

Choose a certain time of day.
Choose a place, preferably a quiet spot or a place that can be made quiet.
Find a way to sit in which your back can be straight and your body can feel relaxed, whether this is on a chair, a cushion, or some other type of pillow on the floor. As you sit down, notice how you’re making contact with the chair
Begin meditating by noticing your breath, not just the idea of your breath but rather the physical sensations of your breath.
Let the practice be light—don’t try too hard, but rather allow the process to be as relaxing as possible.
Remember to be friendly with yourself. It may help to lower your expectations about what you’re hoping to experience.”

NOTES: Full Cup: Chapter 1-Honoring Our Rhythms

Book-Full Cup Thirsty Spirit
Author-Karen Horneffer-Ginter
ISBN-978-1401939939
Pages: 224
Chapters: 6

38 What do you notice that would have gone unseen, untasted, or unheard on another day?

# WISDOM NOTES
1 Are you expecting the unexpected and preparing for the unforeseen?
2 Do you possess the necessary mental, emotional, psychological, and spiritual tools to successfully and effectively weather seasons of turmoil?
3 Always remember: the Kingdom of God is never in crisis.
4 God knows what to do—He cares for you.
5 God has never failed His people.
6 Are you sure that you are one of His people?
7 What crisis are you facing today?
8 Are you facing your crisis alone or with God?
9 You cannot control the crisis that has come upon you suddenly, but you can take control of some of the details.
10 Get a grip on how to overcome your circumstances.
11 Regain your emotional footing to overcome a crisis.
12 Put your feet on the Rock-solid foundation of God.
13 Evils travel together because all of them originate in the sinful hearts of human beings.
14 Do not let your financial uncertainty make you do something rash and foolish.
15 Do not do something dishonest.
16 Do not go the way of the world.
17 Do not worry about yourself.
18 Put your trust in God and ask Him what to do.
19 The seeming defeat inherent in every crisis holds the keys to an unanticipated victory.
20 Believe that your crisis becomes your best opportunity.
21 Remember, you are not under the world’s system.
22 Instead of worrying, rejoice.
23 Do not throw away your confidence.
24 God, who began a good work in you, will finish it.
25 God created people in His own image to manage the earth.
26 When you follow the Master Plan, you will flourish.
27 When you mismanage, you lose.
28 The principle is honesty.
29 Proper management is the correct use of something.
30 Proper management is timely use of another person’s property.
31 Figure out what your resources are, and then use them wisely.
32 The resources we need come to us in the natural course of living our lives according to God’s design and intention.
33 Kingdom of God benefits come to us as we seek the Kingdom.
34 The provisions and resources that we need are by-products of our faith.
35 Kingdom-dwellers have faith.
36 True Kingdom people treat their faith as a relationship with an invisible King.
37 Your King has made blessings accessible to all who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
38 God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (see Heb. 13:8).
39 God is in charge of all changes.
40 It does not matter what is happening because it will not last.
41 There will be an end to every crisis.
42 Everything is seasonal, times of plenty and times of poverty.
43 Are you open to change?
44 God does not make mistakes.
45 Do not be surprised when God’s answer is in the form of harvest-producing seed.
46 Out of the midst of the fire, God purifies you.
47 Find God’s seed for you. Plant it. Nurture it to maturity.
48 Your seed will multiply greatly.
49 Your job is what you were trained to do. Your work is different.
50 Your work is what you were born to do.
51 No kind of educational system can teach you your true work because it is your life purpose
52 Your work [life purpose/God-given assingment] is revealed by your God-given gifts.
53 You are much more than your job.
54 If you can find yourself, you will gain a new perspective on what you were created to do on this earth.
55 The King created you, and the King called you.
56 You were created to contribute to the great bringing-in of the Kingdom of God.
57 He gave you special gifts that match with His purpose for your life.
58 He wants you to discover that purpose so that you can fulfill it.
59 No employer on earth can take away your work.
60 Fulfilling your God-given purpose can happen wherever you go.
61 God likes to move people around. He makes sure that He has representatives in many places
62 Your work is ongoing throughout your life on this planet.
63 Your job is only your career. It is temporary. You can lose it.
64 Your whole career can collapse. You can also have more than one career in your lifetime.
65 Your work is your life assignment. You cannot lose that.
66 You were created to serve the world around you with Kingdom compassion and Kingdom energy.
67 If people are always asking you for help, you must be reflecting the character of your King.
68 If you shoulder your share of the work without murmuring or complaining, then you have probably already been deployed in the service of the King.
69 God’s Kingdom designates every single citizen as a king in his or her own right.
70 You work your way up the Kingdom management ladder by working your way down in lowly service.
71 You are a king who serves the world with your God-given gifts
72 “What is the key to life?”
73 Is love the key?
74 Is life just an accident?
75 Is your existence a kind of “living death”?
76 Finding your true purpose and living it is the key to life.
77 The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life without purpose.
78 Do you long for a focused, purposeful, organized life and simplified lifestyle?
79 Do you have a problem putting first things first?
80 Are you drifting through life with no focus or sense of purpose or direction?
81 Do you shoot off in too many directions trying to do too many things?
82 Are you focused on the wrong thing?
83 What can you do today to better prioritize your life?
84 If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.
85 Life is daily and constantly demanding of our time, energy, talent, attention, and focus.
86 You must know what your priorities are.
87 The absence of priority is dangerous and detrimental.
88 If you’re not doing the right thing at the right time, you are doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.
89 Prioritizing sharpens your vision so you can focus on the most important things.
90 The key to maintaining right standing is obedience.
91 Your pursuit of righteousness places you in the right positioning to receive all the rights, resources, blessings, and privileges of the Kingdom.
92 It’s very simple: you obey, God opens; you disobey, He closes.
93 Sin interrupts your communication with God and shuts down the flow of His resources to you.
94 If your mind is pure, you will see God in everything and in everyone.
95 Righteousness bears abundant fruit in your life.
96 Generosity is a character trait of the righteous.
97 God never forsakes the righteous or their children—He always provides for them.
98 Righteous living will bear the fruit in your life of an inheritance you can leave to your descendents.
99 The only true material wealth of any lasting value, particularly as an inheritance to pass on, is real estate.
100 Not only will the righteous inherit land to dwell in forever, but that land will be covered with peace and security.
101 The world is ruled by dead men.
102 Our planet spins under the power of ideas.
103 The big idea is the ideology that served as the foundation of the first and original government instituted on Earth.
104 The big idea is the divine aspiration, celestial vision, and eternal purpose of the Creator for His creation and humanity on planet Earth.
105 The big idea is the concept of the ultimate governing program for mankind on Earth that provides for all the fundamental needs of humanity and produces a culture that integrates all the noble aspirations of all mankind, such as equality, justice, peace, love, unity, and respect for human dignity, human value, and personal and corporate empowerment.
106 Death can never kill an idea.
107 Ideas are more powerful than death.
108 Ideas outlive men and can never be destroyed.
109 Everything began as an idea and is the result of the conception of an idea.
110 The most difficult thing to fight against is an idea!
111 Ideas can be transferred and live on for generations.
112 God is the Master Gardener who ensures that the gardens of our lives produce good fruit.
113 Whoever tends your garden determines your culture, values, beliefs, and behavior.
114 Has the devil taken up residence in you?
115 You were created to be filled with the Spirit of God and live in perfect harmony and fellowship with Him.
116 You have a choice as to who you allow to tend your garden.
117 Are you a holy sissy?
118 Are you afraid of the devil?
119 Temptation is a fact of life.
120 Satan tempts with the intent to destroy.
121 If you occupy and stand firm during temptations, a rich reward lies in store for you.
122 Your King will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear.
123 Whatever temptations you do face, you can bear, as long as you do so in His strength rather than your own.
124 The Kingdom of Heaven is not a religion and has nothing at all to do with religion.
125 The Kingdom of Heaven is the sovereign rulership of the King (God) over a territory (Earth).
126 The Kingdom of Heaven is a real, literal country, although invisible to physical eyes because it is spiritual in nature.
127 The most powerful expression of any nation is its culture. A strong and rich culture can wield an influence far beyond its geographical boundaries.
128 Are you spreading the culture of the Kingdom of Heaven?
129 There are two kinds of influence: the influence of the moment and lasting influence.
130 Kingdom influence operates gradually, based on eternal, unchanging principles of God and according to a timetable that encompasses millennia.
131 The influence of God’s Kingdom is irresistible.
132 Christ is the King of an eternal, all-powerful, all-knowing, present-everywhere Kingdom.
133 Yeast is one of the most powerful influencing agents in the world.
134 Are you influencing others for the Kingdom of God?
135 Rebellion against God is called sin.
136 Sin is the singular act of rebellion, while sins are the manifestations of that one act.
137 Adam and Eve could have freely chosen to obey God rather than disobey Him.
138 Jesus Christ came to Earth to put an end to our sin of rebellion through His blood.
139 Christ came as a “second Adam” to reverse the consequences of the first Adam’s failure.
140 Christ came to announce the return of the Kingdom of Heaven and to give us access through the sin-cleansing power of His blood.
141 Everything Jesus said and did—His prayers, teachings, healings, and miracles—was focused on a kingdom, not a religion.
142 Have you had to come to grips with your own personal defects to understand Jesus and His message?
143 The original intent of God’s mandate to Moses was not to establish a religion, but a nation of people who would love, serve, and honor God.
144 Do you understand Jesus?
145 Have you reduced His message to nothing more than an escapist plan for getting to Heaven and His promises as a mere fire insurance policy for escaping the pains of a tormenting hell?
146 Religion is one of the greatest obstacles to the Kingdom.
147 Few pastors have any formal instruction at all in any Kingdom concept.
148 Humankind’s greatest challenge has been to learn how to live in peace.
149 The need for government and order is inherent in the human spirit and is a manifestation of a divine mandate.
150 Man was created to be a governor and ruler.
151 It is in man’s nature to seek some authority mechanism that brings order to his private and social world.
152 Democracy is the best form of civil government as we know it.
153 Democracy is built on the premise and principle of “majority rule” and the protection of individual rights.
154 From the Creator’s perspective, life is politics, and He is the essence of life.
155 In Him there is no distinction between government and spirituality.
156 We all are political and religious.
157 Democracy can succeed only where there is a clear accountability to a moral code.
158 The big picture means to see the end from the beginning throughout the creative process.
159 A good artist already sees the end result in his mind.
160 Purpose defines the big picture.
161 What was God’s purpose as the Artist who created humanity?
162 Without purpose, human life has no meaning or significance.
163 Can you see the big picture?
164 Your life has the potential to fulfill your purpose.
165 If you imprison that potential, you rob your life of its purposeand fulfillment.
166 You possess an awesome treasure.
167 Your valuable deposit of potential was given to enrich the lives of others.
168 You have the ability to change your attitude and your internal environment until they are conducive to the germination of your potential seed.
169 You owe it to the next generation to live courageously so the treasure of your potential is unleashed.
170 Continuous effort—not strength or intelligence—is the key to unlocking our potential.
171 Don’t allow the grave to rob this world of your latent, awesome potential.
172 Deep within you lies a seed of greatness waiting to be germinated.
173 You have been endued with natural talents, gifts, desires, and dreams.
174 Hidden within everything is the potential to fulfill itself and produce much more than you see.
175 You have the ability to accomplish everything your God-given purpose demands.
176 The releasing of your potential is not up to God but you.
177 Abortion is the ignorance of responsibility and the denial of obligation.
178 Abortion is self-comfort at the expense of fruitfulness.
179 The abortion of potential is the death of the future.
180 Abortion is the ignorance and the lack of understanding of the principle of potential that pervades our world.
181 All creation was affected by man’s sin.
182 What are your thoughts about abortion?
183 Most of the potential God gave you at birth still remains within you, unseen and unused.
184 On any given day, you are not all you can be.
185 God can always do more than He has already done.
186 Everything came forth when God spoke it into a material substance, in accordance with His master plan.
187 What steps can you take to begin realizing your potential?
188 Can you see yourself in God’s master plan?
189 Jesus promised that He would return to redeem your body.
190 God intended your body to live forever.
191 God’s making you a new home.
192 God’s in the business of giving you a new body.
193 Don’t worry if your body isn’t all you’d like it to be.
194 You are much more than your imperfect, deteriorating body.
195 Fear and anxiety shadow our lives.
196 God is well acquainted with the insanity of your world.
197 God offers Himself as the solution to your problems.
198 God will not force you to accept the new environment He offers.
199 God waits for you to come to your senses and admit your sin and your need of His forgiveness.
200 Are you immersing yourself in God’s commandments?
201 Marriage is a companionship covenant.
202 Procreation is a function of marriage, but it is not the main focus.
203 The social and moral requirement of being married before having children is still very strong in many, many places.
204 Most people are still sensitive to the respectability of marriage.
205 Married couples who take their responsibilities seriously are careful not to conceive and give birth to more children than they can adequately love and care for.
206 True family planning is mature, responsible stewardship.
207 Marriage is the beautiful accommodation of another lifetime.
208 Building a strong marriage takes time, patience, and hard work.
209 Difference of viewpoint is one of the biggest sources of stress and conflict in young marriages.
210 Adjusting to these differences is critical to marital survival.
211 No one enters marriage “clean.”
212 Fusion creates oneness.
213 A husband and wife should know each other better than they know anyone else in the world.
214 A husband and wife should know everything about each other, even those undesirable traits that they hide from everyone else.
215 Relationship does not guarantee knowledge.
216 Labels that imply closeness and intimate knowledge may in reality hinder true relationship building.
217 Marriage is a lifelong journey into intimacy, but also into friendship.
218 As your relationship develops, you should grow into true friends and love and accept each other.
219 Have you fully utilized your abilities, talents, and gifts?
220 Have you settled for the norm?
221 Have you done your best?
222 Have you allowed others to place limitations on your potential?
223 Have you created self-imposed limitations?
224 You determine the degree to which your destiny is accomplished.
225 Have you resigned yourself to a normal life?
226 Your Creator never intended you to be normal.
227 God created you as an original.
228 Are you so preoccupied with trying to fit in that you neverstand out?
229 You were designed to be distinctive, special, irreplaceable, and unique.
230 Be satisfied with nothing less than your best.
231 Great minds and souls never settle for great work.
232 All individuals throughout history who have left their footprints in the sands of destiny were driven by a passion greater than the desire for personal comfort.
233 Retirement is a great myth that traps untapped potential.
234 Retirement is never a concept in the minds of world changers.
235 The enemy of better is best, and the tomb of the extra-ordinary is the ordinary.
236 Your responsibility is to maximize life to its fullest potential
237 All the great things God has put inside you—your visions, dreams, plans, and talents—are satan’s targets.
238 He is afraid of people like you who have faith in God’s wisdom and power.
239 The deceiver fears the treasure you possess.
240 Only as you are “strong in the Lord and in His mighty power” (Eph. 6:10) can you withstand satan’s onslaught against you.
241 The Holy Spirit, sent by Jesus when you received Him as Savior, is your Helper.
242 Understand the provisions of God’s plan and put them into practice to defend your potential.
243 Commit yourself to the goal of dying empty.
244 Discover what you were born to be, then do it.
245 Fulfill your own personal purpose for the glory of God.

I Knew What I Was Getting Into [Listen in Spotify]

I knew what I was getting into when called you.
I knew what I was getting into when I said your name, but I said it just the same.
I knew what I was getting into and I still want you.
I knew what I was getting into.

I knew what I was getting into and I still chose you.
I knew what I was getting into and I still want you.
I knew what I was getting into when I said your name, but I said it just the same.
I knew what I was getting into.

And I am not shocked by your weakness.
And I am not shocked even by your sin.
And I am not shocked by your brokenness.

I knew what I was getting into and I still want you.
I knew what I was getting into and I still like you.
I knew what I was getting into and I still chose you.

Cuz only I can see the end from the beginning.
And only I can see where this is going.
And only I can see the end from the beginning.
And I see in you the seeds of love.
And I see in you strength when all you see is your failure and all you feel is ashamed.
I can see deeper than that.
I know you better than that.

I knew what I was getting into when called you.
I knew what I was getting into when I said your name.
I said it just the same.
I knew what getting into and I still want you.
I knew what I was getting into and I still like you.

Your only at the beginning.
You’ve only just begun and I know where you are going
And all you can see in the moment is that your hurting.
And all you can see in the moment is that your aching.

I knew what I was getting into when I called you.
I knew what I was getting into and I still want you.
I knew what I was getting into and I still like you.
I knew what I was getting into when I called you.

Just don’t give up.
And don’t give in.
If you don’t quit. You win, you win.

Just don’t give up.
And don’t give in.
If you don’t quit. You win, you win.

Everything is in my hands.
It’s going to be alright.
Everything is in my hands.
It’s going to be alright.
It’s going to be okay.
Everything is in my hands.
It’s going to be alright.
It’s going to be Okay.
And you don’t have to pretend to be something or someone your not.
Cuz I know you better than that, even better, even better than that.
Listen my Beloved.

I knew what I was getting into when I called you.
I knew what I was getting into when I said your name.
I said it just the same.
I knew what I was getting into and I still like you.
I knew what I was getting into and I still chose you

Day1016

I took a different bike route today for no reason.  I had a nice steady pace on the first 10 miles because of the tailwind and somewhat downhill terrain in the A.W. Grimes Road.  Also, I’ve switched to my road bike from now on due to boredom of the TTBike.  I did moved the Mavic wheels to this bike to get the benefit of a lighter setup.

Why I Don’t Take Vacation? [very often]

1. I travel 40 miles every week.
2. I feel the energy of the sun for almost 3 hours.
3. I smell the road and hear the danger of the cars beside me when they pass so closely.
4. I meditate and pray during the lonely miles in the middle of nowhere
5. When I arrive back home, it feels like I was in a real vacation.
6. i feel alive thinking that no accident had happened in my 40 miles of travel.

Believing Without Seeing

Jesus said to him, “You believe because you see me. Great blessings belong to the people who believe without seeing me!” John 20:29

The Bible tv series from the History Channel concluded last night with a strong message in my heart and if you ask me about the best part of the story – it is when Thomas doubted about Jesus’ resurrection. We want proof, we want physical evidence, we want tangible indication of His presence.

We argue about the story in our heart.  Did it really happen?  Did Jesus really existed?  Were there really miracles?  We all posses the character of Thomas.

I doubted and I wanted proof but then when I started my journey through faith, evidence started piling up and later I said in my prayer, Lord, you don’t have to show me proof, I believe in You.

My prayer is this – may you believe without seeing.

Overcome

Overcome

I’m coming to be touched by the coal
I’m coming that you’d reach out your hand and make me whole
I’ve walked by this fire so many times but now I’m coming in
Purify me Lord
Burn away the things that don’t please you
Create in me a light
A light that shines
Overcome I wanna be overcome
Overcome I wanna be overcome
Let the fire burn in me for the pure in heart will see you Lord
Baptize us in the Holy Spirit
Baptize us in fire
Fresh fire
I want to burn for you Lord

Wisdom: Introduction

Book-Wisdom
Author-Myles Munroe
ISBN-978-0768432282
Pages: 268
Chapters: 40

“Solomon asked God for it. Universities espouse its virtues. Pastors pray for it. Parents want to believe their children have it. Students hope for it. Executives bank on it. Some rationalize it. Others brag about it. Most want more of it.  Within today’s 24-7 communication culture, it is many times hard to recognize truth from fiction, wisdom from folly. In our virtual reality worldwide society, someone’s “wisdom” can be—and is—blogged, Twittered, Skyped, emailed, and Facebooked instantaneously to others next door or in a faraway continent. Allowing wisdom to become relative is opening doors for imposters to barge in. Only with God’s wisdom can believers forge ahead to make the world a safer, stronger, and more beautiful place. How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver (Proverbs 16:16 NKJV). God’s wisdom, shared through His committed and dedicated  servants, has carried people through ages past full of danger, through current economic and worldwide unrest, and will continue to protect and defend His children throughout eternity. Only wisdom from Heaven provides peace that passes all human understanding.”

WISDOM:
An Apocryphal book consisting mainly of a meditation on wisdom; although ascribed to Solomon it was probably written in the first century BC
1. Accumulated knowledge, erudition or enlightenment
2. The trait of utilizing knowledge and experience with common sense and insight
3. Ability to apply knowledge, experience, understanding or common sense and insight
4. The quality of being prudent and sensible

PARENTING MINDSET
Parent: “You learned that so quickly! You’re so smart!”
Child: If I don’t learn something quickly, I’m not smart.

Parent: “Look at that drawing. Martha, is he the next Picasso or what?”
Child: I shouldn’t try drawing anything hard or they’ll see I’m no Picasso.

Parent: “You’re so brilliant, you got an A without even studying!”
Child: I’d better quit studying or they won’t think I’m
brilliant.

ALTERNATIVE TO PRAISING WHEN A CHILD IS DOING GREAT
“You really studied for your test and your improvement shows it. You read the material over
several times, you outlined it, and you tested yourself on it. It really worked!”

“I like the way you tried all kinds of strategies on that math problem until you finally got it. You thought of a lot of different ways to do it and found the one that worked!”

“I like that you took on that challenging project for your science class. It will take a lot of work—doing
the research, designing the apparatus, buying the parts, and building it. Boy, you’re going to learn a lot
of great things.”

“I know school used to be easy for you and you used to feel like the smart kid all the time. But the truth is
that you weren’t using your brain to the fullest. I’m really excited about how you’re stretching yourself
now and working to learn hard things.”

“That homework was so long and involved. I really admire the way you concentrated and finished it.”

“That picture has so many beautiful colors. Tell me about them.”

“You put so much thought into this essay. It really makes me understand Shakespeare in a new way.”

“The passion you put into that piano piece gives me a real feeling of joy. How do you feel when you play it?”

WHEN A CHILD FAILED OR STRUGGLING
“I liked the effort you put in, but let’s work together some more and figure out what it is you don’t
understand.”

“We all have different learning curves. It may take more time for you to catch on to this and be
comfortable with this material, but if you keep at it like this you will.”

“Everyone learns in a different way. Let’s keep trying to find the way that works for you.”

NOTE TO PARENTS:
Parents think they can hand children permanent confidence—like a gift—by praising their brains and
talent. It doesn’t work, and in fact has the opposite effect. It makes children doubt themselves as soon as
anything is hard or anything goes wrong. If parents want to give their children a gift, the best thing they
can do is to teach their children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and
keep on learning. That way, their children don’t have to be slaves of praise

Every word and action from parent to child sends a message. Tomorrow, listen to what you
say to your kids and tune in to the messages you’re sending. Are they messages that say:
You have permanent traits and I’m judging them? Or are they messages that say You’re a
developing person and I’m interested in your development?

How do you use praise? Remember that praising children’s intelligence or talent,
tempting as it is, sends a fixed-mindset message. It makes their confidence and
motivation more fragile. Instead, try to focus on the processes they used—their strategies,
effort, or choices. Practice working the process  praise into your interactions with your
children.

Watch and listen to yourself carefully when your child messes up. Remember that
constructive criticism is feedback that helps the child understand how to fix something. It’s
not feedback that labels or simply excuses the child. At the end of each day, write down the
constructive criticism (and the process praise) you’ve given your kids.

Parents often set goals their children can work toward. Remember that having innate talent is
not a goal. Expanding skills and knowledge is. Pay careful attention to the goals you set for your children.

If you’re a teacher, remember that lowering standards doesn’t raise students’ self-esteem.
But neither does raising standards without giving students ways of reaching them. The
growth mindset gives you a way to set high standards and have students reach them. Try
presenting topics in a growth framework and giving students process feedback. I think you’ll
like what happens.

Do you think of your slower students as kids who will never be able to learn well? Do they
think of themselves as permanently dumb? Instead, try to figure out what they don’t
understand and what learning strategies they don’t have. Remember that great teachers
believe in the growth of talent and intellect,

NASA’s Strategies of Selecting Candidates
-they rejected people with pure histories of success  and instead selected people who had had significant failures and bounced back from them

Yesterday, my wife told me that my 17 years old son scored >1900 on his first SAT test and his preparation are the following:
1. Watching MariaS, Novak and Rafael at Tennis Channel
2. Watching Minecraft in YouTube
3. Playing video Games ie. Minecraft and something else
4. The Book-Cracking The SAT 2013
5. Playing Tennis

I don’t exactly know how my son’s study habits are but based on my perception, he did not crank up to the maximum effort he can ever unleash on the SAT preparation.  I am motivated to write a summary of this book because I know that he is a perfect candidate of a would-be fixed mindset person.

To Brent,
Please find time to process the contents of this book.  I told you to read it but you refuse.  Here’s the summary instead.

Day975; Dream-Tsunami in Merida, Bee

Book-Destined to Reign
Author: Joseph Prince
ISBN: 10:1-57794-932-3
No. of Pages: 307
No. of Chapters: 22

DREAM: #1 – Tsunami in Merida
Merida, my home town in the Philippines was hit by a tsunami.  I saw how the tide pulled back from the shore in a minute or so when a big tsunami came to town and flooded the whole town.  I told everyone to run for the hill.  There were a few survivors mostly teenagers and I started calling out names to see if they all survived.  After the tsunami, the town was submerged at roof level and only the hill is inhabitable.  The water was so calm and clear like a mirror.  I was overlooking the whole town from the top of the hill and there was no chaos visible and it appeared that everything was normal minus the water level which reaches to the roof.

DREAM: #2 Helping and Comforting Bee
I met an old friend [Bee]. She was in a classroom and needed some help to communicate with someone.  Mary Ann M. was there also and felt reluctant about my help to Bee.  I gave my phone to Bee to be able to call somebody and she end up using my phone listening to music.  I called the phone that I gave her and she was puzzled why my name appeared on the caller id.  The dream ended with Bee finally settled and at peace.

Dreams: Overflowing Water Tower; Soaked QRH and Planner; MN

DREAM: #1-Flawed Water Tower Design
A huge water tower built on top of a hill beside a highway.  On top of the water tower there was a contraption to provide an overflow protection when the tank is overfilled.  The overflow pipe was around 2 feet in diameter and was automated, retractable and robotic.  By design, the overflowing water goes back to the water tower so that no water is wasted when the tank is filled up. One day, the robotic arm was activated because the water overflow sensor was triggered but it turned out that it was a false alarm and the robotic arm retracted back-signifying that the overflow mechanism is working.  On the next day, the overflow sensor triggered again and this time it was real.  The robotic arm moved to the overflow position as designed to direct the overflowing water back to the tank.   It turned out that the design is flawed because when the overflowing water was sent back to the tank, there is no more room in the tank to hold the water.  The top of the water tank busted and was overflowing tremendously.  At the feet of the tower was a highway where cars were regularly passing every minute.  The broken water tower was continually gushing out water like a flood and drenching the cars below.  The passing cars were almost lifted up as the gushing water hit the ground.  Cars keep going but no accident, the only thing that was clear – passing cars received a good amount of shower for free.

What is the significance of a water tower?
Why flawed design?
Why highway by the water tower?
Why overflowing water tower?

DREAM: #2-Soaked QRH Notebook and Planner
Me and my co-workers went on top of the tower celebrating something [not known].  We were sitting at the edge of the tall tower with no safety rails.  Below us is a calm body of water.  It feels like we were on top of a dam and overlooking a deep, still water below.  Suddenly, we heard something dropped in the water.  Some were tiny items and some were large items.  Then a friend of mine told me, “Hey, is that your QRH floating?”  [QRH is my quick reference handbook for work.  Whenever I go inside the factory, I normally bring that notebook with me].    Unfortunately, it was my QRH floating in the water.  People started to retrieve their own items from the water but I stayed on top of the tower and remained seated and just watched the chaotic event.  I was really feeling bad because the QRH holds tons of my work notes and I have not converted it to an electronic format.  After the chaotic fishing and grabbing all the debris in the water, a person came up to me and gave me back my QRH but this time it was missing the spring binder.  The notebook was intact but just missing the spring binder.  The contents were not smeared and still very readable once dried.  One thing weird happened after I received back my QRH, a co-worker also returned my black planner which I don’t remember bringing it with me nor remembered that I dropped it.  He just told me, “Here’s your planner also”.

Why celebrating?
Why the tower reappeared again?
What is the significance of water?
What is the significance of the QRH?
Why the planner was found but mentioned before?
Why the planner, I don’t even use my black planner?

DREAM: #3-An encounter with a girl at work
I was in a hallway and saw this girl MN, we exchanged a few hello and level1 conversation and I told her that we should get together one day for lunch.  She said, 11:30, we will have lunch together.  It was 12:00 but I did not call her back and missed the lunch meeting.  My reason-I cannot have a lunch meeting with this woman because I am a married man and I have to stick with my principles.

Why MN? We are just acquaintance.
What is the significance of the meeting?

DREAM: #4-MN was in bed with me in between my wife [not sexual]
I was lying in bed with my wife but this MN was in between us.  It was a friendly conversation and we were talking just about anything like good friends.  The only thing weird is I was caressing [touch or stroke lightly in a loving or endearing manner]  MN and not my wife.

Why MN reappeared?
Why was she in be with me and my wife?  [Disrespecting my wife is the last thing I will do to my wife]
What is the significance of “caressing”?

SONG: Lord, I Want You

To You Lord, I’ll be true
And through it all, I love You
[x2]

To You Lord, I’ll be true
And through it all, I love You

In the blindness that comes
Through the bitterness of soul
You’re teaching me to see with my heart
In the weakness that comes
When you touch me with Your hand
Forever I’ll be leaning on You
[x2]

Lord, I want You
[repeat]

Day971: Dreams

DREAM:
A pregnant child Zebra2 jump off from a building unscathed.  I have to counsel her.

I was with MA preparing for a trip when an ambulance dragging her sister in a surfboard and she was dropped off in a huge parking lot and we have to take her to the ER.  I took my pickup truck to take her to the ER but she just hopped in the back of the truck like nothing happens.  As I was putting the luggage to the back of the truck, MA instructed me to be careful with his luggage since there were fragile items inside. When I placed his luggage the other way, he reminded me again.

I was in a big university and walked through a big hallway.  I was looking for an exit but end up with a huge double door with no sign of an exit.  I opened the door and saw MS and he shhhhs me because they were in a group meeting with a lot of people and the speaker was talking.  I slowly closed the door and left.

I was walking in a street without a shirt but had my black emergency backup on my back.  I saw 2 college roommates when I went into a very small tunnel which at first impossible to get through.  I went into the tunnel and  I was able to get through the tunnel just enough to crawl with my backpack.

Title: Favored

Celebration Church Podcast

Favor of God is upon us but what is the purpose?  Is it just for us?
There is a purpose for blessings-the church has a bigger task to humanity
You are the house, the storehouse
God is already doing something-go with His footsteps
Do not be afraid, you have found favor with God

The Virgin Mary-Jesus’ Birth Foretold Luke 1:26-38
26Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, 27to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 28And coming in, he said to her, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." 29But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. 30The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. 31And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David;33and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." 34Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" 35The angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.36And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month.37For nothing will be impossible with God." 38And Mary said, "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

What is favor to you?  Awesome, Great, Good News, Excited
Many were chosen to bring forth a generation-having a favor is a big responsibility
To take the Gospel to all nation-this is the responsibility
Your purpose-Be the light of the world and the salt of the earth

Favor Plus Attachment:
1. Favor is always attached to PURPOSE
2. Favor is attached to TIMING
3. Favor is attached to the PRESENCE OF GOD
4. Favor is always attached to FAITH
5. Favor is attached to OBEDIENCE
6. CONFESSION is attached to the favor of God

1. Favor is always attached to PURPOSE
You are called to bring forth GOD in the midst of darkness
I’ve called you for a higher purpose
There is a purpose-to take God everywhere-to all the world

2. Favor is attached to TIMING
You cannot put God in a box of time.  God place the timing, (not us)
We all received favor from God-what is missing is timing (God’s timing)
Some of you are in the edge of giving up-don’t give up, you are almost there

3. Favor is attached to the PRESENCE OF GOD
We are not is a cruise ship, we are in a battleship (we are at war with the devil)
People need to be empowered-be trained to face the frontline
You cannot do this without the power of the Holy Spirit
The world is the battleground, be prepared and be filled with the Holy Spirit
My Holy Spirit will overshadow you with joy, peace, patience
The Spirit of God-this is your fuel, you cannot do it alone
Be internally motivated by the Spirit of God, this is your fire

4. Favor is always attached to FAITH
Nothing is impossible to God!
What is impossible with man-to God it is not
Allow God to be God, faithfully serve Him

5. Favor is attached to OBEDIENCE
Obedience is not a trendy word, not popular, we have our own way
Just say yes to God, be obedient to everything God told you
Obedience=Risks, there is always a risk, take it
We want favor but we don’t want 100% obedience
Obey and every thing will change in your life
Church leaders, don’t be an entertainer, be a catalyst
There is a price for being a Christian, pay the price
We need a church that say-WE LOVE EVERYONE!

6. CONFESSION is attached to the favor of God

Confess who you are. Be open about who you are in Christ (your faith and your life)
The power of life and death is in the tongue.  Declare who you are.
If you can’t say what God say, Don’t say it. Say nothing
Doubt dies when not spoken
Stop talking about your mountain, tell the mountain to move.
Don’t walk with arrogance, walk with gentleness- remember that you are favored!
Your life is your confession.

Day962; Dream

DREAM: Our neighbor’s house was remodeled.  The workers stripped everything in the house and the only remaining items were the frame of the house.  The house framing was extended to double the area of the house.  The look of the house was totally different and I cannot even notice the resemblance of the old house.  The driveway was empty and there were no homeowners around.  When I walked towards the backyard of my house, I noticed that the neighbor’s wood patio extended way beyond to my side of the fence line.  The wood patio was sitting right close to my own backyard patio.  There was a woman who was at the backyard watching the workers and I was going to ask her about the patio but I did not; I just left the patio like it is.  I was not sure if she was the owner or not.

Egocentrism In Adults

Condition: Adult Egocentrism
Treatment:
1. Romans 12:1-2
2. 5 Steps Egocentrism Corrective Action

So I beg you, brothers and sisters, because of the great mercy God has shown us, offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him—an offering that is only for God and pleasing to him. Considering what he has done, it is only right that you should worship him in this way.  Don’t change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but let God change you inside with a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to understand and accept what God wants for you. You will be able to know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.
Romans 12:1-2

A case of weird human response [WHR]
There was a near-miss incident in companyX and I was invited  to participate an AAR meeting [After Action Review] and we were discussing what really happened during an incident that has a “great potential” of a loss if not being addressed.
In an AAR, the following questions are asked.
1. What went well?
2. What did not go well?
3. What will I do differently?

The meeting was a brainstorming session and everyone in the room gave their inputs to the 3 AAR questions.  The AAR went well and we were able to pinpoint the issue and provided a few countermeasures at the end of the session and action items were generated and assigned.  Overall, the AAR meeting was a success although it took us 3 hours to finalize. As I said,  it went well… but right after the meeting, a person who was a participant of the AAR approached me and requested ‘”Can I talk to you in private?” and so we did.  In the conference room, I became the receiver of long mindless rant:
1. i was blamed
2. it was my fault
3. i was left with no choice, it is always my fault
4. i am not good enough
5. they don’t know me any better
6. i am the best at my work but…
etc….

I am a self-trained listener and I let the person finished until there was silence.  But while listening, I can hear inside me this statement “GROW UP, IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU!”  I did not say that verbally but i felt guilty why I was thinking that way.  In the meeting, there was no indication that the team was blaming someone.  It was more of an objective discussion about the incident and not about a person.

Fast forward many weeks after the AAR, I found the answer why such an experienced and mature person acted that way.

“The Self was still connected to the Ego” and is suffering from a syndrome called Egocentrism

I am not in the Psychology field and I can’t explain any further, They call it “Egocentrism” and most common to people who has depression.

My objective  here is to help/deliver information treatment and not to gossip the suffering of others. I am well aware that there are people out there who refuse to seek treatment.  They prefer to do their own therapy or decide to just plainly suffer from the illness themselves without any outside help hoping that one day it will go away.  Or maybe some just don’t have the resources to see a councilor or a doctor.

If you decide to DIY the treatment of your Egocentrism Syndrome, please read the following articles. Once you gain an insight about the subject, you can then make a micro-self improvement towards a better you daily without spending a dime.

Guide-Transforming The Mind

Figure 1-  a mature individual with a healthy Ego-Self state is the one on the right.

image
egocentric-limited to or caring only about yourself and your own needs; A self-centered person with little regard for others

Immaturity of a Child p.201 Book-Transforming the Mind
The newborn baby is the Self, bearing within it the seeds of attributes
that will later develop through the stages of maturation (including the
first four programs and the potential for more). With maturation the ego
develops a subjectively experienced independence from the Self –
indeed it may consider that it is the  Self  and that the body and its
somewhat inexplicable feelings are separate from it – a subjective
disconnection that has been described earlier as the  body-mind split .
But in reality (at least unconsciously) the ego remains intimately related
to the Self – this is the E go-Self axis.
This diagram represents the development of the ego-Self axis (the
perpendicular line). At first the ego exists only in potentia as a
component of the Self. As development proceeds from this first biosurvival program, through the emotional-territorial, semantic and then
socio-sexual programs, the ego gradually differentiates out from the
Self, connected by the ego-Self axis – the vital link which sustains the
integrity of the personality. The fifth element illustrates a mind-body
split, where the ego has lost touch with its physical roots and the axis
disintegrates. In a sense, the Self is to the ego what the parent is to the
child; it also resembles the relationship envisaged by the great world
religions as existing between God and man; for the ego is the Self s
representative in external reality, and the Self is the Higher Self s
vehicle on earth. The newborn child makes no distinction between
inside  and  outside , between his mother and himself. Consciousness
has not yet appeared to disrupt bliss with conflict.
As growth of the ego-Self axis proceeds however, the original
undifferentiated unity is left behind  in paradise  and the world is
increasingly encountered as a realm of tensions. The Self, as central
co-ordinating nucleus of the total psyche, instigates and
homeostatically controls the emergence of the developing ego, and on
this process the whole future integrity of the personality stands or falls .
That it should not go wrong largely depends on the presence and
appropriate responsiveness of the mother, as the stable foundation for
the normal development of the ego-Self axis: it is the primal
relationship, the basis of the bio-survival program, the spinal column of
future individuality and autonomy. Gradually, with the emergence of the
child s ego-consciousness, the mother s functions of cherishing,
nourishing and protecting lose their anonymous features and
personify  as the attributes of  Mum . From this secure attachment
base, the child begins to explore, to investigate his surroundings, and
then of course the influence of his father comes to bear.

I want to know more-I was given more..

Day958; 143×1,000,000,000; Dream

Dream: I was at work at Bay43 and was walking towards Bay42 when I saw that the whole Bay42 was empty.  I saw Joven just doing nothing in the empty Bay and I asked him what happened to all the new installed equipment.  He replied “The want us to Read and Understand”. Near Joven was an open tile with a Korean lady underneath the open tile staring at me.

Today was a historic day for a new project at work.

To my loving wife, 143×1,000,000,000

When You Answer The Call…

I’m sure we all have received calls that have changed our lives. There are the kind we hope we
never receive etc. or something tragic happening to someone we love. There are also the ones that
change our lives in a good way. Some of you may have met a person at a friend’s house or a party
and you thought, “I would really like to get to know that person better.” After exchanging phone
numbers, the person gives you a call and as one thing leads to another you become the best of
friends. Your life has been changed and you are grateful for it.

There are many episodes in the Holy Scripture on how God called his Prophets. One of my
favorites is the calling of Samuel. Samuel got a call in the middle of the night His life was changed
and so were the lives of all God’s people for hundreds of years thereafter, especially since Samuel is
the person who established the monarchy and anointed Israel’s first two kings. Martin Luther King
received a call to the ministry and that led to other calls to struggle in a non-violent way for justice
for all the people in USA. Andrew and another disciple heard John the Baptist point out Jesus and
they responded to Jesus’ call to “come and see.” The next day Peter received his brother Andrew’s
call to meet Jesus. Their call was not dramatic as dramatic as Samuel’s was.

It’s very, very seldom that God calls out our name in the middle of the night as he did with Samuel.
Usually he speaks to us through others, through a religious person like John the Baptist or even
through relative or friend. Sometimes he speaks through someone we don’t like. If we answer when
God speaks, our lives will never be the same. Maybe that’s why many people avoid quiet prayer.
They might hear God say something they don’t want to hear. They’re comfortable with their life the
way it is.

As I look back from my past, I couldn’t think that my life was radically changed when God called
me to follow him, to assimilate him closer. I hoped I could be like everyone else and get married
some day and have children. But << the way of God is not our way, his thoughts are not our
thoughts >>. God just kept calling to me without recognizing it until finally I gave in and said
to God: “<< speak Lord, for your servant is listening”>>. I’m glad I answered “yes.” Giving up
marriage is hard at times, but so is being married hard at times. Following Christ in especial form of
consecration professing the Evangelical Counsel, has been very fulfilling and nothing to fear of, as
Jesus said to Peter: << Don’t afraid, from now on you will become fisherman of men >>.

At times we think maybe God is saying something to us but we’re not sure. God calls everybody
and it’s up to us to answer him or not. It maybe a call for marriage, to be some big thing like going
into religious life, to be a missionary, or as simple as volunteering for some kind of service to others
or praying a little more. We think, “is this really what God wants?”. God does reach us through
others. We see that through the Scriptures, he touches us and speaks to us. His eternal call to us is to
holiness, which we attain to an ever-greater degree as we come to know him and love him.

Try to think:

1. Have you ever tried to ask yourself: is this really what God wants to me?
2. Am I ready to answer His call?
3. Do you find it hard to say “yes” to Him?
4. Parents, are you an obstacle for the vocation of your children?

NOTES: Pure Sex-The Best Sex

I was going to keep my notes as “secret” today and just bury it in my notebook but the reminder from the Holy Spirit was bothering me since this morning after church.

We all made mistake, we are sinners, we do sinful things – big or small, it does not matter. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. “No one is perfect amongst us”. Also, there is a thing called – “My people perished for the lack of knowledge”.  Yeah, I did not know about the word “purity”.

Most of us probably will say that to ourselves or our spouse – “I was not aware that my actions is hurting you or damaged our relationship”.  For those who were there already, don’t look back, look forward and make a better lifestyle change.  For those who are just getting started in a relationship, please understand the 7 key points mentioned below.  Your future will be much joyful and less painful if you abide the guiding principles about being pure.

purity: definition
– Being undiluted or unmixed with extraneous material
– The state of being unsullied [spotlessly clean and fresh] by sin or moral wrong; lacking a knowledge of evil

Pure Sex-What the Bible Say?
Celebration Church, 20130210

Be faith faithful with small things.
Disagreement then Divorce
Most topics at home are: love, discipline, leadership, truth, honesty, hard work, perseverance, but never the topic about sex
Sex is not being preached at home. Are you teaching your kids about sexual purity?
Sex before marriage avoidance, is the message clear at home?
Reason why sex is not mentioned at home-uncomfortable subject, don’t know how and not trained to talk about it
Society is always is the voice about sex, not the church. Now is the time.
No biblical knowledge is being discussed openly

7 Key Points:
1. Pure sex is God’s intention
2. Pure sex is defined by God’s Word
3. Pure sex is only pure in marriage
4. Pure sex contains no additional additives/preservatives
5. Pure sex is not about your pleasure
6. Pure sex must be protected
7. Pure sex is the best sex

1. Pure sex is God’s intention
Purity is God’s Will
Abstain from sexual immorality
Sex is a God given gift
Sex is the highest degree of intimacy in a relationship

2. Pure sex is defined by God’s Word
Do not practice what the world do
Sex-be fruitful and multiple [for reproduction]
If the action is not, it is not “pure”

3. Pure sex is only pure in marriage
Sex outside marriage is like worshipping the devil [idol worship]-produces sin and bad consequences ie. disease and guilt and anxiety and fear
Outside marriage, it is not pure
Can you produce? If no-it is not pure
Marriage must be honored by ALL

4. Pure sex contains no additional additives/preservatives
No need to stimulate
No outside people, ie. pictures, movies, materials, people
Focus on him/her-that’s it
Strange flesh is perverted

5. Pure sex is not about your pleasure
It is for the enjoyment of the other partner [not you]
To give pleasure to your spouse
Do not deprive one another

6. Pure sex must be protected
Sex is sacred in marriage-protect it at  all cost
Be sensitive to temptations, flee or depart or remove yourself from the situation
Stay away from places that you are not suppose to be.

7. Pure sex is the best sex

If sex is done with honor, it gives lasting pleasure and contentment
Shared with the husband and wife forever in memory
Pure sex produces peace and lasting joy.

Now, about sex and marriage: Drink only the water that comes from your own well, and don’t let your water flow out into the streets.Keep it for yourself, and don’t share it with strangers. Be happy with your own wife. Enjoy the woman you married while you were young. She is like a beautiful deer, a lovely fawn. Let her love satisfy you completely. Stay drunk on her love, and don’t go stumbling into the arms of another woman.
Proverbs 5:15-20

I don’t want to believe what I am hearing—that there is sexual sin among you. And it is such a bad kind of sexual sin that even those who have never known God don’t allow it. People say that a man there has his father’s wife.
1 Corinthians 5:1

God wants you to be holy. He wants you to stay away from sexual sins
1 Thessalonians 4:3

Also, remember the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and the other towns around them. Like those angels they were full of sexual sin and involved themselves in sexual relations that are wrong. And they suffer the punishment of eternal fire, an example for us to see.
Jude 1:7

Some people think they are pure, but they have done nothing to remove the filth of their sin.
Proverbs 30:12

They should bandage the wounds my people have suffered, but they treat their wounds like small scratches. They say, ‘It’s all right, everything is all right.’ But it is not all right!
Jeremiah 6:14

Rules about sexual relations: Leviticus 18:6-30
1The Lord said to Moses, 2“Tell the Israelites: I am the Lord your God.3You must not follow the customs of Egypt where you lived, and you must not follow the customs of the Canaanites where I am leading you. You must not live the way they do. 4You must obey my rules and follow my laws. Be sure to follow my rules because I am the Lord your God.5You must obey my rules and my laws, because whoever obeys them will live. I am the Lord.

6“You must never have sexual relations with your close relatives. I am the Lord.

7“You must never have sexual relations with your father or mother. She is your mother, so you must not have sexual relations with her.8You must not have sexual relations with your father’s wife, even if she is not your mother, because that is like having sexual relations with your father.

9“You must not have sexual relations with your sister. It doesn’t matter if she is the daughter of your father or your mother. And it doesn’t matter if your sister was born in your house or at some other place.

10“You must not have sexual relations with your granddaughter. It doesn’t matter whether she is the daughter of your son or the daughter of your daughter—they are all a part of you!

11“If your father and his wife have a daughter, she is your sister. You must not have sexual relations with her.

12“You must not have sexual relations with your father’s sister. She is your father’s close relative. 13You must not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister. She is your mother’s close relative. 14You must not have sexual relations with the wife of your father’s brother. You must not go near your uncle’s wife for sexual relations. She is your aunt.

15“You must not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife, so you must not have sexual relations with her.

16“You must not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife. That would be like having sexual relations with your brother.

17“You must not have sexual relations with a mother and her daughter or her granddaughter. It doesn’t matter if this granddaughter is the daughter of this woman’s son or daughter. Her granddaughters are her close relatives. It is wrong to do this.

18“While your wife is still living, you must not take her sister as another wife. This will make the sisters become enemies. You must not have sexual relations with your wife’s sister.

19“You must not go near a woman to have sexual relations with her during her monthly time of bleeding. She is unclean during this time.

20“You must not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife. This will only make you filthy.

21“You must not give any of your children through the fire to Molech. If you do this, you will show that you don’t respect the name of your God. I am the Lord.

22“Men, you must not have sexual relations with another man as with a woman. That is a terrible sin!

23“Men, you must not have sexual relations with any animal. This will make you filthy. And women, you must not have sexual relations with any animal. It is against nature!

24“Don’t make yourself unclean by doing any of these wrong things! I am throwing nations off their land and giving it to you because they did those terrible sins. 25They made the land filthy. Now the land is sick of those things, and it will vomit out the people who live there.

26“So you must obey my laws and rules. You must not do any of these terrible sins. These rules are for the citizens of Israel and the people living among you. 27Those who lived in the land before you have done all these terrible things. So the land became filthy. 28If you do these things, you will make the land filthy. And it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were there before you. 29Whoever does any of these terrible sins must be separated from their people! 30Other people have done these terrible sins, but you must obey my laws. You must not do any of these terrible sins. Do not make yourself filthy with these terrible sins. I am the Lord your God.”

Loneliness: Look Up To God; Day953

We are still alive because the Lord’s faithful love never ends. Every morning he shows it in new ways! You are so very true and loyal! I say to myself, “The Lord is my God, and I trust him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him. He is good to those who look for him.

IIS Media Services 4.1 in W2012 Server

While trying to setup the Windows Media Services on W2008R2 and failed, I was looking for an alternative for W2012.  I found out that Windows Server 2012 does not support Windows Media Services anymore.  W2012 now uses IIS Media Services 4.1 instead.  I deployed the Media Services 4.1 to my W2012 Server but was not able to test yet.  I still need to read the documentation to be fully convinced that I need to ditch the old Media Streaming that I am currently using.

Here’s the setup information.

Book: Art of Public Speaking- Ch29, 30, 31 Notes +End

Finally, I’ve reached the last page of this book today.  I had been reading it slowly daily so that I can soaked in the message that the author was trying to convey. Please note that this book is not just for public speaking and be advised that your life will change after reading the whole book.  No, I’m just kidding – but in theory, if you will take heed of the wisdom that the author mentioned in every chapter, in some ways, your perspective in life will shift to a better one.

There are people who do not like to be told. [I am aware that sometimes I tell people…, please forgive me]. If you have been in my inner circle lately, and you had been ignoring the pointers that I shared with you, this is your chance to indirectly listen to me.  Read what I am reading.  Take notes of good points and then meditate on key ideas and find time to execute some of the action items that are worth implementing to your own life.  One time, you asked me why all these bad things are happening to you.  Read p180-Chapter 29-Right Thinking and Personality.

”All that a man is, all his happiness, his sorrow, his achievements, his failures, his magnetism, his weakness, all are in an amazingly large measure the direct results of his thinking. Thought and heart combine to produce right thinking: "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he." As he does not think in his heart so he can never become. “

In p189,  Chapter 31-Making Conversation Effective, please read the conversation hints if you don’t have time to read the whole book.  I think it can also be applied to team meetings and blogging.

“ The first step in remedying habits of confusion in manner, awkward bearing, vagueness in thought, and lack
of precision in utterance, is to recognize your faults. If you are serenely unconscious of them, no one–least of
all yourself–can help you. But once diagnose your own weaknesses, and you can overcome them by doing
four things:
1. WILL to overcome them, and keep on willing.
2. Hold yourself in hand by assuring yourself that you know precisely what you ought to say. If you cannot do
that, be quiet until you are clear on this vital point.
3. Having thus assured yourself, cast out the fear of those who listen to you–they are only human and will
respect your words if you really have something to say and say it briefly, simply, and clearly.
4. Have the courage to study the English language until you are master of at least its simpler forms.

Conversational Hints
Choose some subject that will prove of general interest to the whole group. Do not explain the mechanism of a
gas engine at an afternoon tea or the culture of hollyhocks at a stag party. It is not considered good taste for a man to bare his arm in public and show scars or deformities. It is equally bad form for him to flaunt his own woes, or the deformity of some one else’s character
.”

Next Book Reading-Destined to Reign by Joseph Prince pp307[This book was a Christmas gift , [20121218, VN] from a Christian friend but the receiver declined to read and then forced me to read it and left the book in my reading table.  In obedience, I started Chapter1 last week and I am excited to learn more….

Loneliness: Help That Works; Day952; Dream

Don’t turn away from me. Don’t be angry with your servant. You are the only one who can help me. My God, don’t leave me all alone. You are my Savior. Even if my mother and father leave me, the Lord will take me in.

DREAM:
I was walking in a newly built highway in the middle of a thick forest.  The trees were freshly cut and people were still clearing the tall grass and cutting limbs of the trees.  I have to find a safe walkway around the pile of cut trees to get to my destination. After a long walk, I arrived in a nice park and was told that the activity will start soon [activity was not mentioned].  At the park, there was a van parked beside the building filled with all sorts of celebration cake.  There were so many trays of cake inside the van and people were playfully just throwing away pieces of cake to each other.  It was a very chaotic cake throwing activity and I kept yelling to people not to hit me with the flying pieces of cake because I was wearing a dark blue shirt and I  just don’t want any stains in my shirt.  At the end of the messy cake throwing celebration, they unloaded the van with more untouched trays of cake and just placed the excess whole piece of cake in the sidewalk.
